• django objects.all() method issue

• iPhone: UITableView Becomes Invisible after Changing the Data it Displays

  Hi I have application with a TabBar that controls several views. In one view, I control connections to different servers. Each server provides a different set of items. I display these items in UITableView on another view. The problem is that the tableview displays OK the first time but if I go back to view number one and change the server, thereby changing the list of items that should be displayed in tableview, the tableview becomes invisible for some reason. If I tap on the screen in the place where it should be, it becomes visible again. I create table view like this UITableView * aTableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(X,Y,Width,Height) style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; [[self view] addSubview:aTableView]; aTableView.dataSource = self; Ive tried to call reloadData and setNeedsDisplay in viewWillAppear of the UIViewController that hosts this tableview but without success. • django app organization

  I have been reading some django tutorial and it seems like all the view functions have to go in a file called "views.py" and all the models go in "models.py". I fear that I might end up with a lot of view functions in my view.py file and the same is the case with models.py. Is my understanding of django apps correct? Django apps lets us separate common functionality into different apps and keep the file size of views and models to a minimum? For example: My project can contain an app for recipes (create, update, view, and search) and a friend app, the comments app, and so on. Can I still move some of my view functions to a different file? So I only have the CRUD in one single file?

• Best placement for javascript in Asp.net MVC app that heavily uses partial views

  What is the best place for javascript that is specific to a partial view? For example, if I have a partial view (loaded via ajax call) with some divs and I want to turn those divs into an accordian, would it be better put the $("#section").accordion() in script tags inside of the partial view, or in a .js file in the function that retrieves that partial view and inserts it into the DOM? Obviously, common methods I will be keeping in a .js file, however I am more talking about javascript very specific to the partial view itself. Most things I find on the net seem to say to put all javascript into a separate .js but nothing addresses the idea of partial views.

• Drawing the UIPicker values from multiple components?

  I have the UIPicker setup with multiple components and a button below it. Depending on what the user has chosen with the UIPicker determines which new view will be loaded but I am having trouble determining how to extrapolate the information from the picker itself. Right now I have this method being called when the button is pressed: - (IBAction) buttonPressed { if (component:1 == 1 && component:2 == 1) { //Load the view number 1. } else if (component:1 == 2 && component:2 == 1) { //Load the view number 2. } else { //Load the view number 3. } } I obviously know that my code is wrong but I hope it gets the point across. I have multiple components and I need to figure out how to use the information that the user is scrolling to on the picker to determine which view to move to. (I know how to load the views, I just commented those in the code to illuminate the problem areas better.)

• Addressing a memory leak stops my UI from showing iphone

  Hi I've being getting a memory leak warning with a UITabbarcontroller. If I release the tabbarcontroller the warning goes away but the tabbar will not show any content. • Two UIViews in one .xib file?

  hi, i made a second uiview in mei .xib file. the first view is landscape and i get it by following code ItemController *newItem; newItem = [[ItemController alloc] init]; newItem.view..... how can i "activate" the second view, so i can use it with newItem.view2... is that possible? the second view is portait mode, so it should be hidden and when turning the ipad the first view should be hidden and the second gets visible. thanks

• Sencha Touch 2: List does not display in Panel

  I am working on an MVC app in Sencha Touch 2 and am having trouble getting a list to display in a nested panel. The structure of the app has a main view which is a tab panel. One of the items in the tab panel is a defined panel, xtype: 'homepanel'. An item in this panel is the list, xtype: 'newslist' that is linked to the appropriate store and model files. The list does not display unless I change its parent 'homepanel' to a type, Ext.navigation.View. What am I missing in the definition of 'homepanel' as a Panel that prevents the display of the list? • NHibernate & Cancelling Changes to Entities

  Hi, This seems like it would be a common issue to be but I don't know the best way to solve it. I want to be able to send an Entity to a view, have changes be made to the entity in the view, but then cancel (remove) those changes if the user cancels out of the view. What is the proper way to do this. Here are two options I have but I think there should be others that are better 1) Take an entity, create a clone, send the clone to the view...if changes are accepted, update the original entity with the clone's values 2) Send the entity to the view, if the user cancels, remove the entity from NHibernate's cache and reload it from the database For (2), the issue for me would be that the old entity could still be referenced throughout my project after it has been removed from the cache.

  I am currently writing my truly first PHP Application and i would like to know how to project/design/implement MySQL Views properly; In my particular case User data is spread across several tables (as a consequence of Database Normalization) and i was thinking to use a View to group data into one large table: CREATE VIEW `Users_Merged` ( name, surname, email, phone, role ) AS ( SELECT name, surname, email, phone, 'Customer' FROM `Customer` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Admin' FROM `Administrator` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Manager' FROM `manager` ); This way i can use the View's data from the PHP app easily but i don't really know how much this can affect performance. For example: SELECT * from `Users_Merged` WHERE role = 'Admin'; Is the right way to filter view's data or should i filter BEFORE creating the view itself? (I need this to have a list of users and the functionality to filter them by role).

  Hi, I'm kind of lost as to how to do this: I have some chained select boxes, with one select box per view. Each choice should be saved so that a query is built up. At the end, the query should be run. But how do you share state in django? I can pass from view to template, but not template to view and not view to view. Or I'm truly not sure how to do this. Please help!

• From Pocket to Instapaper

  Some time ago I’ve described the issues that I’ve had since a new version of Read It Later, named Pocket, was introduced.I’ve waited with hope for a new upgrade, but I had a huge disappointment with the latest version 16 June 2012. It didn’t fixed any of the two major problems, that I  experienced since new Pocket was introduced-  1. iPad app still didn’t show many of the saved links. 2. ability to rename articles on iPad still wasn’t restored.I’ve posted the message into their forum. They did not show my comment on their forum( I would name it censorship, not moderation), but a few days ago I’ve received an email, recommending “try logging out of the app on your iPad, and back in again.” Their suggestion helped,  but I don’t understand, why it is not posted as a recommendation on their support site.So I decided to try InstAPaper on my iPad, Previously I’ve used it for Kindle. I never considered it before on iPad, because there were no free demo and I was very satisfied with RIL free and then RIL Pro. Currently InstAPaper cost $3, so the price is not an issue.I’ve checked that it has most of features that I am using(e.g. renaming, folders) and I am quite happy with it now. Actually I am using Pocket (or RIL free) for old bookmarks( I have 1000+ stored on my iPad) and for new bookmarks I am using InstAPaper.Having a solid experience with RIL/Pocket I’ve created a list of suggestions to Marco Arment to implement.1. Some pages stored in InstAPaper have removed essential sections of the text. E.g in many blogs comments are not stored in  InstAPaper. Some pages lost almost all of important links (e.g. http://www.lib.rus.ec/a/32416 -sorry, in Russian). RIL/Pocket has 2 modes to store offline- Web view and Article view. Web View includes all links/images of the original page, but it’s very reliable. Article view suppose to strip unrelated information, but often corrupts the content. I prefer to use offline Web view.InstAPaper should also support offline Web view, in case if stripped view removes important part of content.2.  Black full screen Saving on iPad Safari is very annoying. After user pressed a bookmark, the saving has some delay and then for a few seconds prevents from reading the text.Would be better to show as message on the top part(as in Pocket ). I am surprised, that  a full screen popup was  implemented recently as a desired feature. 3.There are no comments allowed on http://blog.instapaper.com/. I would prefer to post some of these notes as comments on http://blog.instapaper.com/ rather than write them in my blog and then send link to Marco.(I found recommendation how to add support of comments on tumblr at http://www.tumblr.com/help, but then realized that Marko was the lead developer ofTumblr.)4. Also there is no support forum. If the button in a paid version is visible and enabled, it should  provide  a working functionality, e.g. search in article names only. And leave full-text search for the premium support.9..Copy URL is an important operation and deserves to be in a first level of Action menu, rather than in Share sub-menu.I’ve also have comment re post http://www.marco.org/2011/04/28/removed-instapaper-free. Marco Arment  explained, why he doesn’t provide free version of Instapaper.  I believe that he is loosing essential part of his customers. When I decided which of iPad application to choose, I’ve selected RIL, because I was able to play with free version, and I liked it. I didn’t have a chance to compare RIL and InstAPaper on iPad, so I’ve bought  RIL pro. For a user there is no point to pay even $3 , if there are similar free product, that user can try and see, is it suitable for him/her.I’ve also played with Readability. It doesn’t have folders or tags(which is very important for me), but nicely supports full text search

• A little bit more complicated multiview App for Iphone

  Hi, i'm new to iphone development. I spend several days by looking for how write muliview app for an Iphone OS. I found how to switch the diferent views without navigation hierarchy (in this article). It's great, but i want more complicated function. For example, i have three diferent views (view 1 - 3) and i can switch between them with technique from link 1. It works fine. My question is: How can i put UITabBarController on view 2, that shows own subviews (tabView 1 - 3) and how put UINavigationController on view 3, that shows own subviews (navView 1 - 2)? The reslut should look like that, one main view (view 1) with two buttons (for example), which switch me to "window" with UiTabBarController or UINavigationController. I found only tutorials, where UITabBarController was a first controller class, that shows directly from AppDelegate (something like default Xcode predefined scenarios). Thanks for your helpfull answer, or i will be crazy soon:).

  Hi, Firstly this has turned out to be quite a long post so please bear with me as its not too difficult but you may need to clarify something with me if i haven't explained it correctly. So with some help the other day from guys on this forum, i managed to partially set up my 'mapClass' class, but i'm having trouble with it and its not running correctly so i would like some help if possible. I will post the code below so you can see. What Ive got is a 'Dundrum' class which sets up the listView for an array of items. Then ive got a 'dundrumSelector' class which I use to set up the setOnClickListener() methods on the listItems and link them to their correct views. The onClick() events don't even work from the listView to get into the correct views. I have to comment out the methods in 'DundrumSelector' before I can get into their views. And this is what I dont understand, firstly why wont the onClick() events work, because its not even on that next view where the map is. I know this is a very long post and it might be quite confusing so let me know if you want any clarification.. Just to recap, what i'm trying to do is just have one class that sets up the map coordinates, like what i'm trying to do in my 'mapClass'. • Profiling Startup Of VS2012 &ndash; YourKit Profiler

  The YourKit (v7.0.5) profiler is interesting in terms of price (79€ single place license, 409€ + 1 year support and upgrades) and feature set. You do get a performance and memory profiler in one package for which you normally need also to pay extra from the other vendors. As an interesting side note the profiler UI is written in Java because they do also sell Java profilers with the same feature set. To get all methods of a VS startup you need first to configure it to include System* in the profiled methods and you need to configure * to measure wall clock time. By default it does record only CPU times which allows you to optimize CPU hungry operations. But you will never see a Thread.Sleep(10000) in the profiler blocking the UI in this mode. It can profile as all others processes started from within the profiler but it can also profile the next or all started processes. As usual it can profile in sampling and tracing mode. But since it is a memory profiler as well it does by default also record all object allocations > 1MB. With allocation recording enabled VS2012 did crash but without allocation recording there were no problems. The CPU tab contains the time line of the application and when you click in the graph you the call stacks of all threads at this time. This is really a nice feature. When you select a time region you the CPU Usage estimation for this time window. I have seen many applications consuming 100% CPU only because they did create garbage like crazy. For this is the Garbage Collection tab interesting in conjunction with a time range. This view is like the CPU table only that the CPU graph (green) is missing. All relevant information except for GCs/s is already visible in the CPU tab. Very handy to pinpoint excessive GC or CPU bound issues. The Threads tab does show the thread names and their lifetime. This is useful to see thread interactions or which thread is hottest in terms of CPU consumption. On the CPU tab the call tree does exist in a merged and thread specific view. When you click on a method you get below a list of all called methods. There you can sort for methods with a high own time which are worth optimizing. In the Method List you can select which scope you want to see. Back Traces are the methods which did call you. Callees ist the list of methods called directly or indirectly by your method as a flat list. This is not a call stack but still very useful to see which methods were slow so you can see the “root” cause quite quickly without the need to click trough long call stacks. The last view Merged Calles is a call stacked view of the previous view. This does help a lot to understand did call each method at run time. You would get the same view with a debugger for one call invocation but here you get the full statistics (invocation count) as well. Since YourKit is also a memory profiler you can directly see which objects you have on your managed heap and which objects do hold most of your precious memory. You can in in the Object Explorer view also examine the contents of your objects (strings or whatsoever) to get a better understanding which objects where potentially allocating this stuff.   YourKit is a very easy to use combined memory and performance profiler in one product. The unbeatable single license price makes it very attractive to straightly buy it. Although it is a Java UI it is very responsive and the memory consumption is considerably lower compared to dotTrace and ANTS profiler. What I do really like is to start the YourKit ui and then start the processes I want to profile as usual. There is no need to alter your own application code to be able to inject a profiler into your new started processes. For performance and memory profiling you can simply select the process you want to investigate from the list of started processes. That's the way I like to use profilers. Just get out of the way and let the application run without any special preparations.   Next: Telerik JustTrace

• Unit testing a SQL code generator

  The team I'm on is currently writing code in TSQL to generate TSQL code that will be saved as scripts and later run. We're having a little difficulty in separating our unit tests between testing the code generator parts and testing the actual code that they generate. I've read through another similar question, but I was hoping to get some specific examples of what kind of unit test cases we might have. As an example, let's say that I have a bit of code that simply generates a DROP statement for a view, given the view schema and name. Do I just test that the generated code matches some expected outcome using string comparisons and then in a later integration or system test make sure that the drop actually drops the view if it exists, does nothing if the view doesn't exist, or raises an error if the view is one that we are marking as not allowing a drop?   Hi, Im trying to load a modal view from a view controller that is displayed in a popover. The modal view loads but the problem is that it transitions into the main view and not within the popover. Is it something Im missing? I thought simply initiating it from a vc within a popover would present the modal view within the same popover... • NavBar displaying back twice when app changed to landscape mode

  Hi, Not sure what's going on here, but my iPhone apps nav bar shows back and the title of my detail view controller even when I'm back to the original view. It wasn't happening earlier, it has changed recently (but not sure when exactly). E.g. I click on a row, view the didSelectRow XIB and then click back on the NavBar controller, but it still shows back even though the view does change back to the original table view. I then have to press back again and then it clears. Update: It's as if its trying to go back three times instead of two. Because, if you visit another row without removing the back button, it stores it as if you need to go back twice. It works fine in portrait mode. Any ideas?

• Swapping data binding in code

  I have two data-bound text boxes. One is bound to a string and the other to a number. The 'default' binding is set in XAML. Under some circumstances I need to reverse the bindings at runtime (the string is usually a prefix but sometimes it's a suffix). I have the following code in my view model, called when the window is loaded: Binding stringBinding = BindingOperations.GetBinding(view.seqLeft, TextBox.TextProperty); Binding numberBinding = BindingOperations.GetBinding(view.seqRight, TextBox.TextProperty); view.seqLeft.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, numberBinding); view.seqRight.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, stringBinding); After that the code loads the properties to which the binding refers. The problem is that the 'new' binding doesn't seem to work. What have I missed? Is there a better way?

• Asp .Net MVC Viewmodel should be class or struct?

  Hey guys, I have just been thinking about the concept of view model object we create in asp.net MVC. Our purpose is to instantiate it and pass it from controller to view and view read it and display the data. Those view model are usually instantiated through constructor. We won't need to initialize the members, we may not need to redefine/override parameterless constructor and we don't need inheritance feature there. So, why don't we use struct type for our view model instead of class. It will enhance the performance.
