• Redirect one input from one terminal to another

  I have sshed into a linux box and I'm using dvtm and bash (although I have also tried this with Gnu screen and bash). I have two terminals, current /dev/pts/29 and /dev/pts/130. I want to redirect the input from one to the other. From what I understand, in /dev/pts/130 I can type: cat </dev/pts/29 And then when I type in /dev/pts/29 the characters I type should show up in /dev/pts/130. However what ends up happening is that every other character I type gets redirected. For example, if I type "hello" I get this: /dev/pts/29 | /dev/pts/130 $ | $ cat </dev/pts/29 $ el | hlo This is really frustrating as I need to do this in order to redirect the io of a process running in gdb (I've tried both run /dev/pts/# and set inferior-tty /dev/pts/# and both resulted in the aforementioned behavior). Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in bash/screen/dvtm?

• Puppet yum repo - Pull down 2.7.x vs 3.0.x

  So a few weeks ago I started on the path to using puppet to automate all the configs/services. At the time I was using the EPEL repo, which installed version 2.6.x. After some reading I was trying to gain access to the flatten method available via the puppet stdlib, and thought it was available by default in the newer 2.7.x version. So I added a puppet repo with the following settings: [puppetlabs] name=Puppet Labs Packages baseurl=http://yum.puppetlabs.com/el/$releasever/products/$basearch/ enabled=1 gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=http://yum.puppetlabs.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-puppetlabs The problem with this, is it installed v3.0.x instead of 2.7.x. And apparently 3.0.x is a major upgrade which was released only a few weeks ago. Obviously I would prefer to use the 2.7.x for the next few months while PuppetLabs fix any defects which will inevitably arise after a major version. So my question is, what setting can I add to the puppet repo config to pull down only the 2.7.x branch and not the 3.0.x branch?

• Oracle 10g cannot see any data in tables

• Broken characters in filenames only in some directories

  We have a web server running CentOS 5.8 that uses SVN for version control. When trying to switch to the latest revision, we got an error about the filenames of files in an upload directory: svn: Error converting entry in directory 'adm/emails/upload' to UTF-8 svn: Valid UTF-8 data (hex: 54 79) followed by invalid UTF-8 sequence (hex: f6 6b 69 72) Upon investigating, we noticed there were some files that had broken filenames: $ ls ~/public_html/adm/emails/upload/ Ty?el?m?trendit.csv Ty?kirja1.csv To get the update completed quickly, we simply mved the files into our home directory. Surprisingly, their filenames looked fine in their new location: $ ls ~/ Työelämätrendit.csv Työkirja1.csv After the update we moved them back to where they were and their filenames were broken again. What could cause this and how can we fix it? The system's locale is set to LANG=en_US.UTF-8.

• Need to set mailx variable to specify the From address

  Running Oracle Linux 5.8 (which is just re-branded RedHat EL 5.8) I must change the From address. But we have scripts that use mailx which cannot be re-written to use any extra flags, so I'd like to use internal variables instead, which I see on the linux.die.net manpage on mailx is an alternative to the -r flag: -r address Sets the From address. Overrides any from variable specified in environment or startup files. Tilde escapes are disabled. The -r address options are passed to the mail transfer agent unless SMTP is used. This option exists for compatibility only; it is recommended to set the from variable directly instead. (Source: http://linux.die.net/man/1/mailx) How can we use these mailx variables? • iptables ACCEPT policy

• Installed Percona mySQL on CPanel but getting an error

• Git can no longer open emacs as its editor

• Why doesn't my implementation of ElGamal work for long text strings?

  I'm playing with the El Gamal cryptosystem, and my goal is to be able to encipher and decipher long sequences of text. I have come up with a method that works for short sequences, but does not work for long sequences, and I cannot figure out why. El Gamal requires the plaintext to be an integer. I have turned my string into a byte[] using the .getBytes() method for Strings, and then created a BigInteger out of the byte[]. After encryption/decryption, I turn the BigInteger into a byte[] using the .toByteArray() method for BigIntegers, and then create a new String object from the byte[]. This works perfectly when i call ElGamalEncipher with strings up to 129 characters. With 130 or more characters, the output produced from ElGamalDecipher is garbled. Can someone suggest how to solve this issue? Is this an issue with my method of turning the string into a BigInteger? If so, is there a better way to turn my string of text into a BigInteger and back? • matplotlib and python multithread file processing

  I have a large number of files to process. I have written a script that get, sort and plot the datas I want. So far, so good. I have tested it and it gives the desired result. Then I wanted to do this using multithreading. I have looked into the doc and examples on the internet, and using one thread in my program works fine. But when I use more, at some point I get random matplotlib error, and I suspect some conflict there, even though I use a function with names for the plots, and iI can't see where the problem could be.   I've heard that using el.innerText||el.textContent can yield unreliable cross-browswer results, so I'm walking the DOM tree to collect text nodes recursively, and write them into tags in the HTML body. What this script does is read hash substring valus from the window.location and write them into the HTML. This script is working for me in Chrome & Firefox, but choking in IE. I call the page with an URL syntax like this: http://example.com/pagename.html#dyntext=FOO&dynterm=BAR&dynimage=FRED UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Solution: I moved the scripts to before </body> (where they should have been) then removed console.log(sPageURL); and now it's working in Chrome, Firefox, IE8 and IE9. This my workaround for the innerText vs textContent crossbrowser issue when you are just placing text rather than getting text. • Mysterious dbboon folder with proxy.php file on my godaddy account

  When doing some web maintenance today, I noticed a strange new folder on my GoDaddy hosting account at the root level named "dbboon", with a single file inside, called proxy.php. It's code is listed below, and seems to be some sort of proxy function. I was kind of troubled because I didn't put it there. I googled all this to learn more, but didn't find anything, except for the proxy file happened to be also stored at pastebin.com: http://pastebin.com/PQsSPbCr I called GoDaddy and they confirmed that it belonged to them, said it was put there by their advanced hosting group for testing purposes but didn't have any more information.   I've written a program which should query the Terminal Services API and print out some state information about the sessions running on a terminal services box. I'm using the WTSQuerySessionInformation function to do this and it's returning some data but most of the data seems to be missing... Does anyone know why?   I have a DataGrid with one column using a UserControl via a styled DataGridTemplateColumn. I can't seem to get the UserControl to 'see' the object that is in it's containing DataGridCell though. What kind of bindings can I create on the TextBox in my UserControl so that it can look up and see that object?! • NHibernate mapping with optimistic-lock="version" and dynamic-update="true" is generating invalid up

  I have an entity "Group" with an assigned ID which is added to an aggregate in order to persist it. This causes an issue because NHibernate can't tell if it is new or existing. To remedy this issue, I changed the mapping to make the Group entity use optimistic locking on a sql timestamp version column. This caused a new issue. Group has a bag of sub objects. So when NHibernate flushes a new group to the database, it first creates the Group record in the Groups table, then inserts each of the sub objects, then does an update of the Group records to update the timestamp value. However, the sql that is generated to complete the update is invalid when the mapping is both dynamic-update="true" and optimistic-lock="version".
