• 12.04: I need a new network card - and I think this one may work?

  I found this list of compatible USB wireless network adaptors: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-usb-wireless-compatibility-adapter-list.html Listed here is the Belkin F5D8053. I'm looking for a store to buy a suitable adaptor in locally and I can't find that particular adaptor - but I can see a Belkin F7D4101az. I think this is simply a newer model - but a Google search for "ubuntu belkin f7d4101az" brings no results - not even people trying to get it to work. Nothing. So I didn't want to purchase it without being sure. There's really only one PC shop that sells this sort of stuff around here - so here's a list of all my available options: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/wireless-cards-adapters/xx_7088_70095_xx_xx/xx-criteria.html I'd really like to get one today, because I have a lot of work to do and don't really want to have to wait a week for a new adaptor - I spent 6 or 7 hours last night trying to get my Dell 1450 to work with no luck. • Dual monitor not working after an update

  I did a package manager update yesterday and it turns out that my dual monitor setup has stopped working. I have poor vision so I really need to connect to a much bigger screen, but since yesterday, when I connect the screen to my laptop, the screen does not automatically reset itself to the laptop display. Even after lots of trial and error with the display settings, I am getting different dispalys on the laptop and external screen and right now only the big screen is active while the laptop has blanked out.   I'm looking for sites similar to jsdo.it and jsfiddle.net. I really like jsdo.it, as it provides a nice editor and the ability to fork, but I really can't stand the usability as it really gets to be a pain to use after a while. I also like jsfiddle.net, but it too has some usability issues and the URL for your fiddle changes every time you save. Are there any other good alternatives for in-browser HTML testing and development?

  When people refer to an architecture that involves a single service API that all clients talk to (a client can be an iPad app, etc), what is the "client" for the web app -- is it A) the web browser itself. Thus, the entire app is written in html/css/javascript and ajax calls to the service are made to fetch data and changes are made through javascript or B) you have an MVC-like stack on a server, only instead of the controllers calling to the model layer directly, they call to the service API which return models that are used to render the traditional views or C) something else?

• Dual display setup - only one displayed after logon

  During boot process my desktop shows both Monitors, but after log I only get one. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 When I go into Displays its still only shows on Monitor.   I came across this column sizing weirdness the other day. Using a RadGrid the headers looked great. The rows with the data however sized however they felt like it, usually way too small. After looking around I came across this that solved my problem. Adding the meta tag of <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> in the head section of my aspx page was what I needed.   I have been recently trying to find a solution for this on the web but did not find something useful or accurate for Ubuntu 11.10. I also consulted the NVIDIA help, but things there did not work for me. I installed the additional drivers from system settings but they are not fully compatible with my GeForce 6200. First I tried finding how to stop the X server. I succeeded, but another problem was the nouveau kernel. This is really frustrating. Can anybody tell me an accurate and authentic way to install NVIDIA drivers?

• Is there any problem with using two slashes in the middle of a URL? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What does the double slash mean in URLs? I'm working on a mod_rewrite URL structure as follows: http://example.com/search/filter1/filter2/filter3/filter4 There are some conditions where it is OK for the first attribute to be blank, but i want to keep the other attributes in the same position. (Otherwise I can't assume that the attribute in the second position represents what I want it to represent.) However this results in some URLs like this: http://example.com/search//filter2/filter3/filter4 This seems to work in all browsers I've tested (Chrome,Firefox,IE9,IE compatible) and I'm not seeing any errors on the server side, so I can't think of any problems in using it. But it just looks wrong and weird to me and I'm not used to seeing it. Are there any potential downsides to using a structure that encourages URLs like this, or any major reasons no one seems to use it? (Everything I search in Google assumes I'm talking about the two slashes after http:)

  When I had upgraded everything was ready on the screen om my computer and with my 12.04 ubuntu. When I restarted my system, the graphics card was not detected. I was forced to start the computer in low graphics mode, and eventually I had a pink deskop with only my maps, and no other programs at all. What do I do now? I need to recover the pictures on my system so that I can upload them online. I'd done a graphics card test on the terminal initially, and it showed that the card was compatible with unity 3D. I have an ATI radeon HD 3450 and I was running a 32 bit build of Ubuntu 12.04 initially Right now I have a broken install of Linux, with no working graphics card or desktop to start from, so I'm unsure of how to fix this.

  I'm building a mobile web-app. One of the requirements from my client is that the user should be able to install (through App Store) a program that displays the webpage. I'm thinking of either just displaying a UIWebView with the web-page or opening the webpage in the browser. This would be my first experience with App Store, so I'd like to ask: Would I run into any troubles regarding acceptance in App Store for such "just-show-whatever-the-server-gives-me" application?

• Screen gets garbled on some web sites

  I have a Gateway notebook with graphics card 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] with open source driver Linux version 2.6.32 -28 - generic. No other operating system on the computer. When I am using firefox to browse the web, everything normally works just fine except that when I attempt to access some particular web pages the screen completely messes up going mostly white with various streaks, etc., although I can access other pages of the same site without problems. When I run the cursor over the garbled screen, bits of the image recompose themselves, at least partially, and I can continue to open the applications window, or turn the computer off, or open the terminal, or take screen shots, etc., although all menus are unreadable. Also, when I zoom in on Google Earth the screen completely messes up. At all other times, there are no apparent problems. Any ideas?

  I'm running 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Kernel 3.2.0-32 w/ GNOME 3.4.2 I perused the prior questions/answers and did not find exactly the same problem, I am concerned that AUTOFSCK, Grub or some other critical event that needs some attention ? Any idea on how to get my video clean during boot? Once I get past the boot screen the video driver/card, etc is performing beautifully !
