• Manipulating Human Tasks (for testing) by Mark Nelson

  A few months ago, while working on a BPM migration, I had the need to look at the status of human tasks, and to manipulate them – essentially to just have a single user take random actions on them at some interval, to help drive a set of processes that were being tested. To do this, I wrote a little utility called httool.  It reuses some of the core domain classes from my custom worklist sample (with minimal changes to make it a remote client instead of a local one). I have not got around to documenting it yet, but it is pretty simple and fairly self explanatory.  So I thought I would go ahead and share it with folks, in case anyone is interested in playing with it. You can get the code from my ci-samples repository on java.net: git clone git://java.net/ci4fmw~ci-samples It is in the httool directory. I do plan to get back to this “one day” and enhance it to be more intelligent – target particular task types, update the payload, follow a set of “rules” about what action to take – so that I can use it for more driving more interesting test scenarios.  If anyone is feeling generous with their time, and interested, please feel free to join the java.net project and hack away to your heart’s content. In an email to the employees of Apple Steve said, At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health..I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011   Seems to the plans for release of much anticipated iPad 2 and iPhone 5 will not be affected by Steve’s absence -as rumoured iPad 2 In April, iPhone 5 In June With New Hardware.   “HDD Low virus” is a new  fake system optimizer application which started affecting all  the Windows ( XP, vista, Windows 7) based computers world wide starting from Monday. It gets installed to the computers without notice by passing all our antivirus software. The infected computers will suddenly popup a system error  similar to the below screen shot and tries to shut down the computer.   Though the major anti virus companies have not yet release an update for this virus, We can easily remove this virus using the below steps Steps to remove HDD Low virus Press Alt+Ctrl+Delete and go the the Task Manager -> Process and kill the process with name [random number].exe ( e.g 123410.exe) Go to Run -> type msconfig to launch the System Configuration utility. In the Start up Tab un check  all the services with random name (e.g jygkgs.exe) and note folder path of the service in the Command column. Go to that folder path and delete all the exe files with random name manually ( It is recommended to use command prompt to delete the files) Delete all the HDD low files in the below path %Desktop%\HDD Low.lnk %Programs%\HDD Low\Uninstall HDD Low.lnk %Programs%\HDD Low\HDD Low.lnk Open registry using Run-> regedit.exe search for the below key and delete software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run [random number].exe” Restart the computer Also update your anti virus definition and run a full scan of your computer to remove any affected files.   I'm working on improving page speed display times, and one of the methods is to gzip content from the webserver. Google recommends: Note that gzipping is only beneficial for larger resources. Due to the overhead and latency of compression and decompression, you should only gzip files above a certain size threshold; we recommend a minimum range between 150 and 1000 bytes. Gzipping files below 150 bytes can actually make them larger. We serve our content through Akamai, using their network for a proxy and CDN. What they've told me: Following up on your question regarding what is the minimum size Akamai will compress the requested object when sending it to the end user: The minimum size is 860 bytes. My reply: What is the reason(s) for why Akamai's minimum size is 860 bytes? And why, for example, is this not the case for files Akamai serves for facebook? (see below) Google recommends to gzip more agressively. And that seems appropriate on our site where the most frequent hits, by far, are AJAX calls that are <860 bytes. Akamai's response: The reasons 860 bytes is the minimum size for compression is twofold: (1) The overhead of compressing an object under 860 bytes outweighs performance gain. (2) Objects under 860 bytes can be transmitted via a single packet anyway, so there isn't a compelling reason to compress them. So I'm here for some fact checking. Is the 860 byte limit due to packet size the end of this reasoning? Why would high traffic sites push this down to the 150 byte limit... just to save on bandwidth costs (since CDNs base their charges on bandwith offloaded from origin), or is there a performance gain in doing so?

  The public (you!) has spoken, and “Deep Dive MVVM” was selected (along with 11 other open call talks) out of 217 proposals. There were 17’000 votes! These are pretty amazing numbers, and believe me when I tell you that I still didn’t completely realize what just happened! I want to really underline the outstanding quality of many of the talks that were proposed. I decided not to reveal my votes, because I just know too many of the candidates and I had only 10 votes but let’s just say that some of my favorites were picked, and some were not, and I really wish that I can see them all either at MIX or in another conference. I already started putting down ideas for the talk (not too many, because I didn’t want to jinx it) and it should be a really great session. We will, as the title shows, dive deep into the subtleties of MVVM, and explore some techniques that allow to overcome some of the hurdles presented by this pattern. This session will be shaped by many emails that I received over the past year, since “Understanding the MVVM pattern” was presented, and offered, for many, a first look into Model-View-ViewModel. So now’s the chance, comment and let me know what topics you would like to discuss. If you had not done so before, go ahead and watch last year’s session, it will be a great preparation.   MVPs are well known for their good heart (like the GeekGive initiative shows) and Client App Dev MVP Gregor Biswanger is no exception. At the latest MVP summit (beginning of March 2011), he took over a DVD about WPF 4 and Silverlight 4 and asked a few Microsoft superstars to sign it. Right now, the DVD is auctioned on eBay and of course the proceeds will go to a charitable work: The German League against Cancer (Deutsche Krebshilfe).   Am 14. Juni fand der Customer Experience Gipfel statt, der von Dialogum exklusiv für Oracle und seine Partner durchgeführt wurde. Dort konnten Partner und Endkunden über die Zukunft des Kundenmanagements diskutieren und erfuhren, was sich hinter dem Begriff „Customer Experience“ alles verbirgt. Die Konferenz begann mit einem Networking Dinner am Vorabend, an dem den 80 Teilnehmern in einer ersten Präsentation das Thema „Mobile Commerce“ vorgestellt wurde. Nach einem guten Abendessen hatten alle die Möglichkeit, auf einer Großleinwand beim EM-Spiel Deutschland gegen Holland mitzufiebern. Insgesamt war es ein sehr gelungener Abend, waren die deutschen Jungs doch siegreich und sicherten sich den Einzug ins Viertelfinale. Der Customer Experience Gipfel selbst hat dann alle Erwartungen übertroffen: 150 Teilnehmer, ein Drittel mehr als erwartet, zeigten großes Interesse an Multichannel-Strategien, Loyalty und wie man jeden einzelnen Schritt des Kunden im Kontakt mit dem Unternehmen zu einem positiven Kundenerlebnis werden lässt. So standen überwiegend Unternehmenspräsentationen aus den unterschiedlichen Branchen wie Telekommunikation, Handel oder Travel & Transportation auf dem Programm. Neun Round Tables, fast alle von den teilnehmenden Oracle Partnern moderiert, und 1:1-Gespräche rundeten die Konferenz ab. Und Zeit zum Networking blieb natürlich auch. • How To Hide YouTube Logo In Video Embeds

  YouTube is the most popular video sharing site where you find videos shared by common users to big organizations sharing their training materials, demos and live casts. Lets an assume an organization wants to upload training/product demo videos to YouTube and embed them on their corporate website.  Would not it be nice if they can hide the YouTube logo from the embedded videos? Definitely Yes. To remove the YouTube logo you need to do a small change to the embed script before using it on your site. Add the flag modestbranding=1 as shown in the script below Here is a YouTube video embedded in this post without the logo. The catch is when logo is hidden the player shows text YouTube as a text overlay at top right corner when you hover the mouse. Hope Google will let us hide even that in the near future.
