• ListView - Index and Position Behavior upon restart()

- by tunneling
I am using a ListView with an ArrayAdapter that holds objects. When I select an item, I am capturing the position and index of the selected item. If I scroll down prior to selection, the position and index represent the location of the item in the list. Selecting that items takes me to another activity. When I use the back button to return to the list, it seems that the ListView get's a new position and index for the visible items. As a result, I can't figure out how to reference the selected item during the restart() of the ListView Activity. I have tried to caputure position and index, but as I've said, they change upon returning to the Activity. Is my understanding of the ListView "redraw" correct? Does it renumber my items based on what's visible? -When in the life cycle is getView() called? Is there a way to force an update to the ListView so that my caputured index still points to the same object? Thanks, Jason

• Strange Java Socket Behavior (Connects, but Doesn't Send)

- by Donald Campbell
I have a fairly complex project that boils down to a simple Client / Server communicating through object streams. Everything works flawlessly for two consecutive connections (I connect once, work, disconnect, then connect again, work, and disconnect). The client connects, does its business, and then closes. The server successfully closes both the object output stream and the socket, with no IO errors. When I try to connect a third time, the connection appears to go through (the ServerSocket.accept() method goes through and an ObjectOutputStream is successfully created). No data is passed, however. The inputStream.readUnshared() method simply blocks. I have taken the following memory precautions: When it comes time to close the sockets, all running threads are stopped, and all objects are nulled out. After every writeUnshared() method call, the ObjectOutputBuffer is flushed and reset. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, or does anyone have any suggestions? I'm afraid my project is rather large, and so copying code is problematic. The project boils down to this: SERVER MAIN ServerSocket serverSocket = new ServerSocket(port); while (true) { new WorkThread(serverSocket.accept()).start(); } WORK THREAD (SERVER) public void run() { ObjectInputBuffer inputBuffer = new ObjectInputBuffer(new BufferedInputStream(socket.getInputStream())); while (running) { try { Object myObject = inputBuffer.readUnshared(); // do work is not specified in this sample doWork(myObject); } catch (IOException e) { running = false; } } try { inputBuffer.close(); socket.close(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Could not close."); } } CLIENT public Client() { Object myObject; Socket mySocket = new Socket(address, port); try { ObjectOutputBuffer output = new ObjectOutputBuffer(new BufferedOutputStream(mySocket.getOutputStream())); output.reset(); output.flush(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Could not get an input."); mySocket.close(); return; } // get object data is not specified in this sample. it simply returns a serializable object myObject = getObjectData(); while (myObject != null) { try { output.writeUnshared(myObject); output.reset(); output.flush(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); break; } // catch } // while try { output.close(); socket.close(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Could not close."); } } Thank you to everyone who may be able to help!

• Very Strange behavior in custom dataGrid

- by Markus
Hi everybody, I asked this question already in a former post, but nobody could answer this question correctly. So I try to post the problem again, to make sure it's not a bug. I have a dataGrid with a custom itemRenderer. Everytime I tab at least two times on the dataGrid, the cell below the one I taped gets selected. This doesn't happen if I uncomment the code in the method saveBackDataGridContent()! The second problem is that if the Line is shorter than the entered text, a horizontalScrollBar will get active, although I set setStyle("horizontalScrollPolicy", "off");... Who can solve that one? CustomRenderer.mxml: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" initialize="dataService.send()"> <mx:Script> import components.ChoiceRenderer; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import mx.events.DataGridEvent; private function resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void { var doc:XML = event.result as XML; testGrid.dataProvider = doc.Records.BackSide; } private function saveBackDataGridContent(event:DataGridEvent):void{ testGrid.dataProvider[event.rowIndex].TextElement = event.currentTarget.itemEditorInstance.text; } </mx:Script> <mx:HTTPService id="dataService" result="resultHandler(event)" url = "data/example.xml" resultFormat="e4x"/> <mx:DataGrid id="testGrid" editable="true" itemEditEnd="saveBackDataGridContent(event)"> <mx:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn itemRenderer="components.ChoiceRenderer" width="230"/> </mx:columns> </mx:DataGrid> </mx:Application> ChoiceRenderer.as package components { import mx.containers.HBox; import mx.controls.CheckBox; import mx.controls.Label; public class ChoiceRenderer extends HBox { private var correctAnswer:CheckBox; private var choiceLabel:Label; public function ChoiceRenderer() { super(); setStyle("horizontalScrollPolicy", "off"); correctAnswer = new CheckBox; addChild(correctAnswer); choiceLabel = new Label; addChild(choiceLabel); } override public function set data(xmldata:Object):void{ if(xmldata.name() == "BackSide"){ super.data = xmldata.TextElement[0]; choiceLabel.text = xmldata.TextElement[0].toString(); } } } } example.xml <TopContainer> <Records> <BackSide> <TextElement>first</TextElement> </BackSide> <BackSide> <TextElement>second</TextElement> </BackSide> <BackSide> <TextElement>third</TextElement> </BackSide> <BackSide> <TextElement>fourth</TextElement> </BackSide> <BackSide> <TextElement>fifth</TextElement> </BackSide> <BackSide> <TextElement>sixth</TextElement> </BackSide> </Records> Thanks Markus

• Strange behavior with ajax call complete in JavaScript modules

- by user2598794
I have 3 simple modules with JavaScript code and JQuery ajax call. First module lots.js: var Lots = (function ($) { var self = this; var processIsRunning; return { getLots: function (lotsUrl) { var items = []; self.processIsRunning = true; var request = $.ajax({ url: lotsUrl, type: 'POST', success: function (data) { //some code } }); $.when(request).done(function() { //some code self.processIsRunning = false; }); }, isComplete: function () { return !self.processIsRunning; } }; }(jQuery)); Module bids.js: var Bids = (function ($) { return { makeBids: function (bidUrl) { //some code } }; }(jQuery)); Module app.js which bundles all together: var App = (function () { var lots_url = null; var bid_url = null; var self = this; return { if (!self.lots_url) { self.lots_url = lotsUrl; } GetLots: function (lotsUrl) { Lots.getLots(self.lots_url); }, MakeBids: function makeBid(bidUrl) { //some code var isComp = Lots.isComplete(); while (!isComp) { isComp = Lots.isComplete(); } Bids.makeBids(self.bid_url); } }; }()); But in the 'while' loop I always get 'isComplete=false'. In debug I see that 'processIsRunning' in Lots module is always true. What's the problem?

• LINQ to SQL - Insert yielding strange behavior.

- by Isaac
Hi, I'm trying to insert several newly created items to the database. I have a LINQ2SQL generated class called "Order". Inside order, there's a property called "OrderItems" which is also generated by LINQ2SQL and represents the Items of that Order. So far so good. The problem I'm having right now, is when I try to add more than one newly created OrderItem inside Order. I.E: Order o = orderWorker.GetById( 10 ); for( int i=0; i < 5; ++i ) { OrderItem oi =new OrderItem { Order = order, Price = 100, ShippingPrice = 100, ShippingMethod = ... }; o.OrderItems.Add( oi ); } context.SubmitChanges(); Unfortunately, only a single entity is being added. Yes, I checked the generated SQL by adding Context.Log = Console.Out, and yes, only one statement was created. Any clues? By the way I know I'm not using InsertOnSubmit, by the documentation says: You can explicitly request Inserts by using InsertOnSubmit. Alternatively, LINQ to SQL can infer Inserts by finding objects connected to one of the known objects that must be updated. For example, if you add an Untracked object to an EntitySet(TEntity) or set an EntityRef(TEntity) to an Untracked object, you make the Untracked object reachable by way of tracked objects in the graph. While processing SubmitChanges, LINQ to SQL traverses the tracked objects and discovers any reachable persistent objects that are not tracked. Such objects are candidates for insertion into the database. Thank you very much for your time.

• TreeView Control unexpected event behavior

- by ProgNet
Hi all, In the MSDN is writen about TreeNode that: "By default, a node is in selection mode." "To put a node into selection mode, set the node's NavigateUrl property to an empty string." "When a node is in selection mode, use the SelectAction property to specify which event or events are raised when a node is selected." "Setting TreeNodeSelectAction value TreeNodeSelectAction.Select Raises the SelectedNodeChanged event when a node is selected." Please see TreeNode Here is the problem and possibly a bug in the control: When I set the TreeNode object PopulateOnDemand value to true and call the Collapse() function on that node. Then the TreeNodeExpanded event is raised in addition to the SelectedNodeChanged event. This is in complate contradiction to what is writen in the MSDN. According to the MSDN this sould happen only if TreeNodeSelectAction Property is set to TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand value. Does some know whats the cause for that? Here is the code: <asp:TreeView ID="TreeView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateDataBindings="False" onselectednodechanged="TreeView1_SelectedNodeChanged" ontreenodepopulate="TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate"> </asp:TreeView> protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack) { string path = Server.MapPath("."); PopulateTopNodes(path); } } //MSDN : Occurs when a node with its PopulateOnDemand property set to true is expanded in //the TreeView control. protected void TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate(object sender, TreeNodeEventArgs e) { LoadChildNode(e.Node); } private void PopulateTopNodes(string pathToRootFolder) { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(pathToRootFolder); DirectoryInfo[] dirs = dirInfo.GetDirectories(); foreach (DirectoryInfo dir in dirs) { string relativePath = (dir.FullName).Replace(pathToRootFolderPrefix, ""); TreeNode folderNode = new TreeNode(dir.Name, relativePath); if (dir.GetDirectories().Length > 0) { folderNode.PopulateOnDemand = true; folderNode.Collapse(); } folderNode.NavigateUrl = ""; folderNode.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand; TreeView1.Nodes.Add(folderNode); } } private void LoadChildNode(TreeNode treeNode) { string d = treeNode.NavigateUrl; string action = treeNode.SelectAction.ToString(); string fullPath = Path.Combine(pathToRootFolderPrefix, treeNode.Value); DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(fullPath); DirectoryInfo[] dirs = dirInfo.GetDirectories(); foreach (DirectoryInfo dir in dirs) { string relativePath = (dir.FullName).Replace(pathToRootFolderPrefix, ""); TreeNode folderNode = new TreeNode(dir.Name, relativePath); if(dir.GetDirectories().Length>0){ folderNode.PopulateOnDemand = true; folderNode.Collapse(); } folderNode.NavigateUrl = ""; folderNode.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand; treeNode.ChildNodes.Add(folderNode); } } //MSDN:Occurs when a node is selected in the TreeView control. protected void TreeView1_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { } Thanks

• Strange LINQ to SQL Behavior

- by mcass20
What is wrong with the last query? Is it a bug or am I missing something? This query returns 2 records (correct): query = query.Where(Log => SqlMethods.Like(Log.FormattedMessage, "%<key>Name</key><value>David</value>%")); This query returns 2 records (correct): query = query.Where(Log => SqlMethods.Like(Log.FormattedMessage, "%<key>Name</key><value>%David%</value>%")); This query returns 0 records (correct): query = query.Where(Log => SqlMethods.Like(Log.FormattedMessage, "%<key>Name</key><value>av</value>%")); This query returns 2 records (correct): query = query.Where(Log => SqlMethods.Like(Log.FormattedMessage, "%<key>Name</key><value>%av%</value>%")); This query returns 0 records (correct): query = query.Where(Log => SqlMethods.Like(Log.FormattedMessage, "%<key>Name</key><value>v</value>%")); This query returns 15 records (incorrect, should return 2): query = query.Where(Log => SqlMethods.Like(Log.FormattedMessage, "%<key>Name</key><value>%v%</value>%"));

• odd behavior with C# ftp client class

- by geoff
I found an ftp client class in c# over a year ago and have been using it in a process that uploads files on a nightly basis. A few days ago we started having a problem where it would time out. I'm not well versed in this so I'm not sure why it's doing this. When the program starts uploading a file it checks to see if it's logged in and if not, it calls the login method. In that method is this block of code. if (this.resultCode != 230) { this.sendCommand("PASS " + password); if (!(this.resultCode == 230 || this.resultCode == 202)) { this.cleanup(); throw new FtpException(this.result.Substring(4)); } } On the line that says this.sendCommand("PASS"... it goes into this code. private void sendCommand(String command) { if (this.verboseDebugging) Debug.WriteLine(command, "FtpClient"); Byte[] cmdBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes((command + "\r\n").ToCharArray()); clientSocket.Send(cmdBytes, cmdBytes.Length, 0); this.readResponse(); } If I let the program run, it times out. However if I step through it into the sendCommand method it executes fine. Does anyone know why it would work fine when I step through it? Nothing on our end has changed and I've been told nothing on the client's end has changed so I'm stumped. Thanks.

• FireFox: strange behavior on submiting a form

- by ilnur777
Can anyone help with this strange form submiting in FireFox? So this form should be submitted after pushing "go to submit" button. There is an onclick event on the button that should submit form through JavaScript. In the form there is another button "test" without any onclick event. Following the script, the form should be submitted only after pushing the "go to submit" button, but it submits even pushing at "test" button. In the Internet Explorer it works well! But this stupid FireFox browser behaves different. Here is example of HTML page: test I have several buttons with option 1 options. I want to fix strange submiting a form in FireFox. Help please!

Hi everyone: I have a question, here are two class below: class Base{ public: virtual void toString(); // generic implementation } class Derive : public Base{ public: ( virtual ) void toString(); // specific implementation } The question is: If I wanna subclass of class Derive perform polymophism using a pointer of type Base, is keyword virtual in the bracket necessary? If the answer is no, what's the difference between member function toString of class Derive with and without virtual?

• Strange behavior: save video recorded within app?

- by Josue Espinosa
I allow the user to record a video within my app, then later play it again. When a user records a video, I save the URL of the video, then play the video later from the saved URL. I save the video both in the Photos app and in my app. If I delete the video within the photos app, it still plays. After about 7 days, the video gets deleted. I think I am saving in my tmp directory, but i'm not sure. Here is what I am doing: -(void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { NSString *mediaType = [info objectForKey: UIImagePickerControllerMediaType]; [self dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion:nil]; // Handle a movie capture if (CFStringCompare ((__bridge_retained CFStringRef) mediaType, kUTTypeMovie, 0) == kCFCompareEqualTo) { NSString *moviePath = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",[[info objectForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL] path]]; NSURL *videoURL = [info objectForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL]; NSData *videoData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:videoURL]; _justRecordedVideoURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",videoURL]; AppDelegate *appDelegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; _managedObjectContext = [appDelegate managedObjectContext]; Video *video = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Video" inManagedObjectContext:_managedObjectContext]; [video setVideoData:videoData]; [video setVideoURL:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",videoURL]]; NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; dateFormatter.dateStyle = NSDateFormatterLongStyle; [dateFormatter setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterLongStyle]; NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:[dateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]]]; NSString *dateAdded = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date]; [video setDate_recorded:dateAdded]; if(_currentAthlete != nil){ [video setWhosVideo:_currentAthlete]; } NSError *error = nil; if(![_managedObjectContext save:&error]){ //handle dat error } NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *tempPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingFormat:@"/vid1.mp4"]; BOOL success = [videoData writeToFile:tempPath atomically:NO]; if(success == FALSE){ NSLog(@"Video was not successfully saved."); } if (UIVideoAtPathIsCompatibleWithSavedPhotosAlbum(moviePath)) { UISaveVideoAtPathToSavedPhotosAlbum(moviePath, self, @selector(video:didFinishSavingWithError:contextInfo:), nil); } } } Am I saving it incorrectly? When I go to play the video, it works fine, after a couple days the video will play without audio, then eventually it will be gone. Any ideas why?

• Java BufferedReader behavior in CSV vs TXT file

- by Gabriel
If i try to read a CSV file called csv_file.csv. The problem is that when i read lines with BufferedReader.readLine() it skips the first line with months. But when i rename the file to csv_file.txt it reads it allright and it's not skipping the first line. Is there an undocumented "feature" of BufferedReader that i'm not aware? Example of file: Months, SEP2010, OCT2010, NOV2010 col1, col2, col3, col4, col5 aaa,,sdf,"12,456",bla bla bla, xsaffadfafda and so on, and so on, "10,00", xxx, xxx The code: FileInputStream stream = new FileInputStream(UploadSupport.TEMPORARY_FILES_PATH+fileName); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(stream, "UTF-8")); String line = br.readLine(); String months[] = line.split(","); while ((line=br.readLine())!=null) { /*parse other lines*/ }

• Inconsistent Behavior From Declared DLL Function

- by Steven
Why might my GetRawData declared function return a correct value when called from my VB.NET application, but return zero when called from my ASP.NET page? The code is exactly the same except for class type difference (Form / Page) and calling event handler (Form1_Load, Page_Load). • inconsistent setTexture behavior in cocos2d on iPhone after using CCAnimate/CCAnimation

- by chillid
Hi, I have a character that goes through multiple states. The state changes are reflected by means of a sprite image (texture) change. The state change is triggered by a user tapping on the sprite. This works consistently and quite well. I then added an animation during State0. Now, when the user taps - setTexture gets executed to change the texture to reflect State1, however some of the times (unpredictable) it does not change the texture. The code flows as below: // 1. // Create the animation sequence CGRect frame1Rect = CGRectMake(0,32,32,32); CGRect frame2Rect = CGRectMake(32,32,32,32); CCTexture2D* texWithAnimation = [[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"Frames0_1_thinkNthickoutline32x32.png"]; id anim = [[[CCAnimation alloc] initWithName:@"Sports" delay:1/25.0] autorelease]; [anim addFrame:[CCSpriteFrame frameWithTexture:texWithAnimation rect:frame1Rect offset:ccp(0,0)]]; [anim addFrame:[CCSpriteFrame frameWithTexture:texWithAnimation rect:frame2Rect offset:ccp(0,0)]]; // Make the animation sequence repeat forever id myAction = [CCAnimate actionWithAnimation: anim restoreOriginalFrame:NO]; // 2. // Run the animation: sports = [[CCRepeatForever alloc] init]; [sports initWithAction:myAction]; [self.sprite runAction:sports]; // 3. stop action on state change and change texture: NSLog(@"Stopping action"); [sprite stopAction:sports]; NSLog(@"Changing texture for kCJSports"); [self setTexture: [[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"SportsOpen.png"]]; [self setTextureRect:CGRectMake(0,0,32,64)]; NSLog(@"Changed texture for kCJSports"); Note that all the NSLog lines get logged - and the texture RECT changes - but the image/texture changes only some of the times - fails for around 10-30% of times. Locking/threading/timing issue somewhere? My app (game) is single threaded and I only use the addImage and not the Async version. Any help much appreciated.

• Servlet Session behavior and Session.invalidate

- by EugeneP
Suppose I have a web app with a servlet defined in web.xml. Then I deploy it on Tomcat. Then I open my browser and go to the link to this servlet, it is invoked. Then I close my browser window. How Session behaves ? How is it created, destroyed in this case? if this servlet is "detached" from all the web app, and gets parameters only using post & get, so it does not need Session at all, should one use Session.invalidate at the end of doGet(), doPost() ?

• Problematic behavior of Linq Union?!

- by Foxfire
Hi, consider the following example: public IEnumerable<String> Test () { IEnumerable<String> lexicalStrings = new List<String> { "test", "t" }; IEnumerable<String> allLexicals = new List<String> { "test", "Test", "T", "t" }; IEnumerable<String> lexicals = new List<String> (); foreach (String s in lexicalStrings) lexicals = lexicals.Union (allLexicals.Where (lexical => lexical == s)); return lexicals; } I'd hoped for it to produce "test", "t" as output, but it does not (The output is only "t"). I'm not sure, but may have to do something with the deferred processing. Any ideas how to get this to work or for a good alternative?

• Unknown ListView Behavior

- by st0le
I'm currently making a SMS Application in Android, the following is a code snippet from Inbox Listactivity, I have requested a cursor from the contentresolver and used a custom adapter to add custom views into the list. Now, in the custom view i've got 2 TextViews (tvFullBody,*tvBody*)... tvFullBody contains the Full SMS Text while tvBody contains a short preview (35 characters) The tvFullBody Visibility is by default set to GONE. My idea is, when the user clicks on a list item, the tvBody should dissappear(GONE) and the tvFullBody should become visible (VISIBLE). On Clicking again, it should revert back to its original state. //isExpanded is a BitSet of the size = no of list items...keeps track of which items are expanded and which are not @Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { if(isExpanded.get(position)) { v.findViewById(R.id.tvFullBody).setVisibility(View.GONE); v.findViewById(R.id.tvBody).setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); }else { v.findViewById(R.id.tvFullBody).setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); v.findViewById(R.id.tvBody).setVisibility(View.GONE); } isExpanded.flip(position); super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id); } The Code works as it is supposed to :) except for an undesired sideeffect.... Every 10th (or so) List Item also gets "toggled". eg. If i Expand the 1st, then the 11th, 21th list items are also expanded...Although they remain off screen, but on scrolling you get to see the undesired "expansion". By my novice analysis, i'm guessing Listview keeps track of 10 list items that are currently visible, upon scrolling, it "reuses" those same variables, which is causing this problem...(i didn't check the android source code yet.) I'd be gratefull for any suggestion, on how i should tackle this! :) I'm open to alternative methods aswell....Thanks in advance! :)

Finally 1 Exiting out of the program I do not understand why IOException is caught by the outer catch block. I would appreciate if anyone can explain this, especially by citing stack unwinding process

• odd behavior setting timeouts inside a function with global references in javascript

- by Pablo
Here is the the function and the globals: $note_instance = Array(); $note_count = 0; function create(text){ count = $note_count++; time = 5000; $note_instance[count] = $notifications.notify("create", text); setTimeout(function(){ $note_instance[count].close() }, time); } The function simply opens a notification, a sets a timeout to close it in 5 seconds. so if i call this create("Good Note 1"); create("Good Note 2"); create("Good Note 3"); Ecah note should close 5 seconds from their creation, however always and only the last note closes, in this case "Good Note 3". Each note object has its own entry in the the $note_instance global array so the timeouts should no be overwriting themselves. What am i missing here folks? Thanks in advance
