    In perl most of my print statements take the form print "hello." . "\n"; Is there a nice way to avoid keeping all the pesky "\n"s lying around? I know I could make a new function such as myprint that automatically appends \n, but it would be nice if I could override the existing print.

    In Ror or Django or web2py you can "describe" a database (as a set of classes that remaps to tables) and the framework (having being provided with a connection string to the desired database) generates the tables, fields, relations and in the case of RoR and web2py it also keeps it up-to-date (eg, removing a class drops the table, adding a property to the class triggers an "alter table add" etc). Is there any Perl module that does the same? Eg, it takes the YAML/XML/JSON description of a database as input and modifies/generates the database schema accordingly?

I see both of the "DEBUG_VERBOS" and "DEBUG_SUPPRESS_ERROR_MSGS" apply to the script, which is fine in this case. However, if there are some "conflicting" debug modes, I am not sure how to set the "precedence of debue_modes"? Also, I am not certain if my approach is good enough to Perlists and I hope I am getting my feet in the right direction. One biggest problem is that I now put if statements inside most of my subroutines for controlling their behavior under different modes. Is this okay? Is there a more elegant way? I know there must be a debug module from CPAN or elsewhere, but I wanna a real minimal solution that doesn't depend on any other module than the "default" And I cannot have any control on the environment where this script will be executed... However, for some reason, I get the first report file output correctly. The second file instead of having in the first section test next item last item reads last item last item last item I have tried a whole lot of options primarily around autoflush, but, for the life of me can't figure out why it is doing this.   • awk or perl file editing & manipulation

    I have a standard passwd file & a usermap file - which maps unix name (eg jbloggs) with AD account name (eg bloggsjoe) in the format: jbloggs bloggsjoe jsmith smithjohn ... etc. How can I edit the passwd file to swap the original unix name with the AD account name so each line of the passwd file has the AD account name instead. Appreciate any help for a perl learner.
