  I am trying to determine how suicidal this is... I have a hosting environment where a custom ASP.Net CMS application needs to access the files in the root folder of a website even though it is in a virtual folder so it can be shared accross many sites. I can modify the Medium trust on the server and came up with this... <IPermission class="FileIOPermission" version="1" Read="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.." Write="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.." Append="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.." PathDiscovery="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.."/> Oddly enough, it works. Yes, I understand it is doing this for all the Apps. I am a bit at a loss as to easy ways to test what else is being exposed. Feels dangerous. Opinions?

  Hello, I'm working on an internal IT application monitoring outages for a network with a national footprint in the US. I'm considering overlaying outages by region on a map. Showing outage areas in red for example. The user clicks on the outage area displaying drill down information. The technology stack includes Grails/JBoss/Linux. Are there frameworks that provide the mapping/GIS layer of the display on which I could overly my domain specific information? I've looked into the Google Map API, but am unable to leverage it as this operates behind a firewall. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Steve

• TimeoutException in simultaneous calls to WCF services from Silverlight application

  Analysing log files I've noticed that ~1% of service calls ended with TimeoutException on the Silverlight client side. The services (wcf) are quite simple and do not perform long computations. According the log all calls to the services are always processed in less that 1 sec (even when TimeoutException is occurred on the client!), so it is not server timeout. So what is wrong? Can it be configuration or network problem? How can I avoid it? What additional logging information can be helpful for localizing this issue? The only one workaround I've thought up is to retry service calls after timeout. I will appreciate any help on this issue! Update: On startup the application performs 17 service calls and 12 of them simultaneously (may it be cause of failure?). Update: WCF log has not contained useful information about this issue. It seems some service calls do not reach the server side.

  Having trouble getting the correct bounds for my iPad application when launching it in landscape mode. I have the proper keys set in my Info.plist file, and my view controllers launch properly in landscape (and portrait, natch). In my applicationDidFinishLaunching: method I'm calling a selector after a 3 second delay, and that method makes a call to [[UIScreen applicationFrame]`, but it's returning me a portrait frame (ie height width). Does anyone know how to fix this? It smells like a bug to me (if so I'll file a radar), but if it's intended behaviour, where is it documented?

  I am using JDBC to connect to my microsoft access database. I get the following exception when I try to connect to the database: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application I am using 64bit windows7, and I am using eclipse which is also a 64bit version My database is a microsoft access database and it seems that the driver is a 32bit driver which is causing the problem. I read somewhere that microsoft has not released a 64bit driver for microsoft access! Any help on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  Originally the site was set up using a Website project which ended up not working for various reasons. I'm trying to make it work as a web application project and have started from the ground up with a new project. I have looked online and not found a good resource that explains some of the "simple" things that are taken for granted when it's a website project. Some things specifically: How am I specifying the external sql database that the membership site should use? Is it possible to set privileges on a folder and require authentication when accessing that content or does each page need to check for itself? Once again, I'm looking for some resources I can use as I move forward as opposed to answers to specific questions (although those are welcome as well).

  Hi, I have a big background image for my views's background, which also can be tiled (it's repeadable). When switching from one Activity to another i want the background to behave like on the homescreen (the background moves only a bit, but the foreground moves one screen with). Is this possible and how?   Hi guys, I'm modifying our collaboration system so it can be listed on google applications. A small issue I'm facing is the registering of user details. By default whenever someone logs into their google Apps account they pretty much are logged into the application. For every action taken by a registered login in user I store the user ID of that signed in user whenever an update is made in the database. However the google apps user sign in process is different in this respect that there isn't anything visible as a user ID for me to work with. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am trying to group logs of multiple related applications to a single log file. For example I have 3 applications A1.esb, A2.esb, A3.esb. I want all the logs from these 3 applications get logged to a single log file called A.log. Similarly, I want B.log for B1.esb, B2.esb and B3.esb. I am using log4j in JBoss application server. I have tried to use TCLFilter but I only succeeded in getting individual applications logging to individual log files. As in, A1.esb logging to A1.log, A2.esb logging to A2.log and so on. But I couldn't figure out a way of grouping these loggings.

I tried to compile a program that works both on Windows with mingw and on a Unix system, but when I go to compile it through Cygwin: gcc threads.c -o threads I get the error: this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way And that's it... any ideas what I am forgetting or screwing up?   I am developing a web application for web designing. One part of it includes changing CSS styles on the run and saving the same back to server. I see that, first part of my motive is implemented there in firebug, where I can view CSS style rules applied to a particular HTML element and can change them to view the effect. An earlier question at SO lead to me firebug lite source code https://getfirebug.com/firebug-lite-debug.js , which is far less confusing than full version of firebug. My question was that, is there any way I can get documentation of the firebug/firebug lite code which can speed things up for me. After some googling I found out that there is Firebug API http://getfirebug.com/developer/api/firebug1.6/ But don't know how much useful it is for me. Any alternative way to do this is also welcome.

  I'm unsure on the best stack to build a chat application. Currently I'm thinking of two main options: facebook tornado cons: does not use the main chat protocol xmpp but pubsubhubbub pros: i really like its simplicity for development (webserver + webframework); pubsubhubbub also seems simpler as a protocol than xmpp; and i know python xmpp + bosch, punjab, ejabberd cons: don't know erlang; overall seems a bit harder to develop pros: uses xmpp protocol The chat app will need to have the following: Private messages Public rooms Private rooms Chat history for rooms (not forever, just the last n messages) html embedding url to chat room Both options seem scalable so that's not really my worry (we're thinking of running the app in amazon's ec2 as well). I know there's a project that builds a xmpp server using tornado but it's not ready for production use and our deadline isn't that big. Basically my main worry is ease of development vs somehow regretting later using pubsubhubbub to develop a chat app but I read somewhere that PubSubHubbub might eventually replace XMPP as REST replaced SOAP - so what do you think?

  Hi guys I'm developing a collaboration system and our team has been at it for the past couple of years. However the boss suggested that we try and redevelop it using something robust. Basically our collaboration system incorporates a webmail client and a custom built contacts management system plus project management system. My boss likes the robustness of GMAIL and Google docs and really would like a solution that if possible could incorporate these two and other google applications - I'm not so sure how to get started on developing a custom application using google applications - especially consider the fact that in the long run we wish to host our collaboration system as a paid service - just like the services that 37signals basecamp and highrise have been.

  Use VS2010 silverlight business application template to createa defaut solution. Change authentication to Windows in Web.config and the code in app.xaml.cs to use windows authentication. Nothing else changed. Then run this app from vs2010 built-in web server, it is fine, I can see the login user info from windws(from a AD domain account) display on the top-right of the screen, like DomainName\userName. • Authenticating from a "child" application via CAS

  I have a portal application that loads external content (widgets) via an iframe. Users login to CAS via the portal itself. There are a few portal APIs, though, that need to be called from that external content. What information do I have to pass from the portal to the widgets that the widgets can use to make these calls without being rejected by CAS? UPDATE The more I investigate, the more I think that my question boils down to how CAS actually does what it's supposed to do. In other words, how can I go from one site where I've authenticated to another and tell it that I've already done the authentication thing. What's the mechanism behind that and how can I employ in in a web context.

  In my application I have used these notifications when playing a video. But, The problem is the control of the program is not entering in to the first two methods(moviePreLoadDidFinish and moviePlayBackDidFinish). It is entering into last method. So, after the video is played and I pressed Done button in the video, I cannot touch any object in screen. I mean I used play button for video to play in a view. • How can I create a hybrid Silverlight and aspx application

  Here is my scenerio.. We have an ASP.Net 2.x web site. We want to migrate it to Silverlight full frame application. However, there is no way we can go away in a corner and redo every web page in SL right off the bat. What I would like to do is build the chrome of the app (main page, dashboard, login, common system/config screens, main menu) in SL and be able to open existing .aspx pages in the main content SL frame. From what I see there is no way to do this. I thought the Webbrowser control in SL4 would be the answer, but apparently that only works if your app is run out of browser. So, what is my best recourse? It seems like I will have to create some type of .aspx page that hosts the .XAP and pass in the page I want it to load? How would you gurus approach this?

  Hello, I'm designing a few applications that will share 2 or 3 database tables and all of the other tables will be independent of each app. The shared databases contain mostly user information, and there might occur the case where other tables need to be shared, but that's my instinct speaking. I'm leaning over the one database for all applications solution because I want to have referential integrity, and I won't have to keep the same information up to date in each of the databases, but I'm probably going to end with a database of 100+ tables where only groups of ten tables will have related information. The database per application approach helps me keep everything more organized, but I don't know a way to keep the related tables in all databases up to date.   Background: I have created sample windows application for learning to implement localization. My each form has two RESX file. One for Bulgaria and one for French(Belgium). It has default culture English(XX) To test locally currently I am programmatically changing UICulture i.e. Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("fr-BE"); And it works fine. Problem: How can I test without forcing the UI Culture programatically? I have tried changing Control Panel Regional Options Standard and Formats to French(Belgium). That made changes to DatePickerControl and now it display the dates French. However I can still see the Button text in English, where as if I test by injecting CultureInfo programmatically it changes to french. If I am able to change the standard and formats to French do I still need to Install Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI)?

  Hello, What is the best way to load seed (initial or test) data into grails application. I'm considering 3 options 1. Putting everything in *BootStrap.groovy files. This is tedious if the domain classes and test data are many. 2. Write custom functionality to load it through xml. May not be too difficult with the excellent xml support by groovy, but lot of switch statements for different domain classes. 3. Use Liquibase LoadData api. I see you can load the data fairly easy from csv files. Choice 3 seems the easiest. But, I'm not familiar with Liquibase. Is it good in this scenario, or only used for migration, db changes etc. If anyone could provide a better sol, or point to an example with Liquibase, it would be great help.. thanks...
