• How can I have the passphrase for a private key remembered for a user?

  I have a collection of web services running on Ubuntu Server 12.04 that pull code from a github repository. These services run under a specific user (let's call that user 'example'). In /home/example/.ssh/is_rsa is the private key associated with the relevant github account. When performing an operation such as git pull I am greeted with: Enter passphrase for key '/home/simplytestable/.ssh/id_rsa':. Enter the correct password and all is ok. The same private key is present on local development Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 machines and no passphrase is asked for. I'd like to be able to have the passphrase remembered so that upon entering it once it is never asked for again. This will aid in automating various web service updates. I'm guessing that the passphrase needs to be stored in the relevant user's keychain such that I don't have to enter it every time the private key needs to be unlocked. How can I achieve this?

• Target tracking with a small delay (actionscript 3.0)

  I'm having trouble thinking of a good method to track my character with an enemy attack. Of course, I don't want the attack to track my character's current position; I want it to track where the character was about 1 second before (so you can move around and make the attack miss and loop around you sort of a thing). The general structure of my game uses a timer to update all of my events. I have a timer going off every 25 milliseconds that updates everything, including my player's position and the enemies position. Right now I just have the enemy attack directly targeting my character....which works fine except that it's impossible to escape =p. Let me know if I didn't supply enough details. My approach was going to basically be get my character's position from about 1 second ago, then have the enemy target that position, the only problem is I can't think of a good way to get my character's position from previous times. Thanks for the help!

• Google's process for publishing/modifying pages [closed]

  I'm assuming that a group of people at Google have control of certain sections of google.com, but how does Google make sure that employees don't accidentally or intentionally sabotage the website? Does Google use Adobe Contribute or some similar product for sharing/publishing the website. Do employees use WebDAV, FTP, SFTP, or SSH to publish the site. Since Google has hundreds of thousands of servers it probably takes some time for its servers to update. Do they transmit the new copy of the website to all servers before publishing at once? This question does not apply to Google editing a database and having a page reflect the database's changes. It applies to employees editing the source code and/ or back end of the site.

• Compilable modern alternatives to C/C++

  I am considering writing a new software product. Performance will be critical, so I am wary of using an interpreted or language or one that uses a emulation layer (read java). Which leads me to thinking of using C (or C++) however these are both rather long in the tooth. I haven't used either for a long time. I figure in the last 20 years someone should have created something which is reasonably popular and is nice to code in and is complied. What more modern alternatives are there to C for writing high performance code compiled code? edit in response to comments If C++ is a different beast than it was 15 years ago, I would consider it, I guess I had an assumption that it had some inherent problems. Parallelisation would be important, but probably not across multiple machines.

• Ubuntu 12.04 desktop crash [closed]

  12.04 is stable under a light load, but not under intensive use of Gaussian 09 vB1. Looks like a heating issue, but psensor says that all is well on 32-cores @56C. Similar results for 64 cores. Machine shuts down after 2-3h. Syslog shows shut down. Whoopsie crash reporter sends in report. After 259 updates on the weekend, I am left wondering what the heck is wrong with this release? My answer would be "EVERYTHING!". Can someone help me do some systematic checks on this OS and hardware.

• Atheros AR2413 wireless not working after shutdown

  I am using a Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer aspire 3680 laptop and my wifi is not working. I followed the below commands to install the madwifi driver: sudo su apt-get install subversion cd /usr/src svn checkout http://madwifi-project.org/svn/madwifi/trunk madwifi tar cfvz madwifi.tgz cd madwifi make && make install echo "blacklist ath5k" /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf echo "ath_pci" /etc/modules modprobe ath_pci sudo reboot After installation I am facing the same problem. My wifi wont work after I shutdown. Infact it didn't work after suspend but I rectified that problem by the following commands: Command 1: sudo rmmod -f ath_pci sudo rfkill unblock all sudo modprobe ath_pci along with the command SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci added to the /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi directory. So if I suspend and then on my laptop the wifi loads well and doesn't create a problem. But if I shutdown my laptop the wifi never loads again and eachtime I have to run a Ubuntu 9.04 live CD to load it. I did try adding the Command 1 to the /etc/rc.local directory but still it doesn't work. So my question is: What should I do in order to make my wireless work without having to run a live CD of ubuntu 9.04 everytime after shutdown? Thanks. • How to cull liquids

  I use culling on my Tiles in my 2D Tile Based Platformer, so only ones needed are drawn on screen. Thats easy to do. However, My Liquid tiles (Water, lava, etc) require an Update Method aswell as the normal Draw, which does checks against tiles, makes it flow, etc. So how should I cull liquid updates in my game? Not culling is to slow, culling only on screen looks awkward when you move. What do you think would be best for the player? Maybe someway of culling the visible tiles PLUS also adding the width/height of the viewport to start culling tiles at a fast enough rate in front of the player so it dosent look awkward when moving? (Not sure how to do this though, something with MaxSpeed of player and width of screen)

If to forget about patents, will the idea have something like "prior art" status or some such if someone will try to patent this in future? All this about project / product published by solo developer.

• Ubuntu 13.10 and Dell Inspiron 7520 SE (Intel 4000 and ATI radeon HD 7730m)

  I installed 13.10 and i have problems with my display. Everything else works fine. I cant control my brightness. I thought the graphics driver is the problem. So i went to software updates, switched to another driver (proprietary) and the Ubuntu screen went black and i wasn't able to boot either. I cant use my lap with such low brightness. Then i reinstalled 13.10 again, This time full hdd reset. Same problem occurred. I grabbed radeon hd7730m for Linux x64 from the amd site, installed it, and the screen went black with only the "x" cursor showing on the next boot. What should i need to do to make my brightness work and stabilize graphic cards as mine is switchable graphics type.

• How can I set my screen resolution to match my TV?

  I have a computer in my classroom that's connected to an LG smart TV (that's actually not so smart. I wouldn't recommend buying one.). For the touch interface, the TV wants a resolution of 1920x1080 at 60Hz. However, I can't seem to set the computer to that resolution. The display settings only offer 1024x768 and 640x480. The computer dual boots with Windows XP, where widescreen options are available in approximately the required size, but the exact resolution -- or even aspect ratio-- isn't available in XP either. I tried the following command: xrandr -s 1920x1080 -r 60 The response was: Size 1920x1080 not found in available modes Back in the old days, the solution would be to edit xorg.conf. However, since that file no longer exists, and I haven't found up-to-date info, I don't know what else to do. If it helps, this machine will never be connected to a different display, so resolution flexibility isn't important. • Moonlight stopped working on tvp.pl

  Hello, I'm watching The Bold and the beautiful on the site: http://www.tvp.pl/seriale/obyczajowe/moda-na-sukces/wideo Yesterday I wanted to view next episode, however it didn't work. I checked various episodes from other points in time and none works. The "dots" that appear when a Silverlight video is loading are present, but after them there is only black screen (of death). I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 32 bit with GNOME2 and firefox 3.6. I have all updates done. Could somebody check if any video is working for them and tell me their setup, please? I'm using Moonlight 3. Two days ago everything was fine but later this problem appeared.
