• How can I pass Arguments to a C++ program started by the Registry?

  Hello, I'm creating a Win32 program that will be executed every time the computer turns on. I manage to do this by adding the .exe path into the registry. The problem is; I want to make the program appear minimized in the system tray when the computer is turned on but if I double click it [after the computer turns on and the program is not currently running] the program should appear on its normal [maximized] size. Question, I was thinking on whether is was possible to pass an argument to the program when the program is executed from the registry. Is this possible? If yes/no, how would I manage to do this? (Using windows XP) Thanks.

• How do I pass custom action data from a Visual Studio Setup MSI to an output project via a Merge mod

  I have a fully working Setup project within Visual Studio 2008 that takes inputs from a UI and passes them via a Custom Action to the output - this works perfectly. Now I have to change this so that the UI is still in a setup project but that the output is within a merge module. The current Custom Action Data looks much like the following with EditHostUrl coming from a UI dialog editbox. /HostUrl="[EditHostUrl]" I now need to pass this value to the merge module and then from there use it as an input for the custom action data to the project output but there does not seem to be any documentation on how to achieve this. To be clear Wix/InstallShield etc... are not currently options. I would also rather not embed the UI within the merge module (for reasons of separation and also it's not supported out of the box with visual studio).

  I need to take a number from a list and convert it to a number so that i can pass it as a parameter. im trying to make a 1-bit adder in scheme. i've written the code for the or gate and the xor gate and also the half adder and now im trying to combine them all to make a full adder. im not sure if im going about it the right way. any input will be appreciated thank you. • Pass structured data from C++ app to ASP.NET web service.

  I have Visual C++ application that needs to communicate with a ASP.NET web service. Specifically, the app needs to pass structured data (e.g. objects that contain lists of structures, etc) as a parameter to one of the service methods. The C++ application is already generating an xml document that contains this data. The document is generating using an xml library, so it should always well-formed. What is a good method for passing this data to the web service? I'm thinking about passing the document to the web service as a string parameter, then deserializing to a .NET object based on an xsd. But, I hear that passing an xml doc as a string parameter is not recommended. So, my questions: What are the pitfalls associated with sending the document as a string parameter, assuming that the document itself is always well-formed? Assuming the above is a bad idea, what are some good alternate approaches?

  Here is something I can do in java, take the results of a repeated parameter and pass it to another method: public void foo(String ... args){bar(args);} public void bar(String ... args){System.out.println("count="+args.length);} In scala it would look like this: def foo(args:String*) = bar(args) def bar(args:String*) = println("count="+args.length) But this won't compile, the bar signature expects a series of individual strings, and the args passed in is some non-string structure. For now I'm just passing around arrays. It would be very nice to use starred parameters. Is there some way to do it?

  Our application uses a lot of configuration options. Those options need to be reflected on the client side in the form of User preferences, site wide preferences, etc. Currently, we pass server side settings down to the client side in the form of JSON that is stored in custom attributes in the markup for a specific element (and no, our application currently doesn't worry about W3C validation). We then retrieve the data from the custom attribute, and parse it into a JSON object for use in script using jQuery. One drawback to this is referencing attributes on elements from within event handlers. I know this is frowned upon, as it can create circular references, and subsequently memory leaks. I would much prefer to use jQuery's data function, but you can't invoke this from the server side at page render time. What does everyone else do in this type of scenario?

I am currently doing assignment 3, and am having trouble getting a bit of information from the View sent to the View Controller. I believe I have set up the whole delegation thing correctly, so the question really is to how to get my View Controller to see a bit of information (such as self.bounds.size.width), which is a property that only the View has.   I'd like to be able to create a function like: class A { private String extraVar; public String myFormat(String format, Object ... args){ return String.format(format, extraVar, args); } } The problem here is that args is treated as Object[] in the method myFormat, and thus is a single argument to String.format, while I'd like every single Object in args to be passed as a new argument. Since String.format is also a method with variable arguments, this should be possible. If this is not possible, is there a method like String.format(String format, Object[] args)? In that case I could prepend extraVar to args using a new array and pass it to that method.
