  • Echo mysql results in a loop?

    - by Roy D. Porter
    I am using turn.js to make a book. Every div within the 'deathnote' div becomes a new page. <div id="deathnote"> //starts book <div style="background-image:url(images/coverpage.jpg);"></div> //creates new page <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> //creates new page <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> //creates new page </div> //ends book What I am doing is trying to get 3 'content' (content being a name and cause of death) divs onto 1 page, and then generate a new page. So here is what i want: <div id="deathnote"> //starts book <div style="background-image:url(images/coverpage.jpg);"></div> //creates new page <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> //creates new page <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"> //creates new page but leaves it open <div> CONTENT </div> <div> CONTENT </div> <div> CONTENT </div> </div> //ends the page </div> //ends book Seems simple enough, however the content is data from a MySQL DB, so i have to echo it in using PHP. Here is what i have so far <div id="deathnote"> <div style="background-image:url(images/coverpage.jpg);"></div> <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> <div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);"></div> <?php $pagecount = 0; $db = new mysqli('localhost', 'username', 'passw', 'DB'); if($db->connect_errno > 0){ die('Unable to connect to database [' . $db->connect_error . ']'); } $sql = <<<SQL SELECT * FROM `TABLE` SQL; if(!$result = $db->query($sql)){ die('There was an error running the query [' . $db->error . ']'); } //IGNORE ALL OF THE GARBAGE ABOVE. IT IS SIMPLE CONNECTING SCRIPT THAT I KNOW WORKS //THE METHOD I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH IS BELOW $pagecount = 0; while($row = $result->fetch_assoc()){ //GETS THE VALUE (and makes sure it isn't nothing echo '<div style="background-image:url(images/paper.jpg);">'; //THIS OPENS A NEW PAGE while ($pagecount !== 3) { //KEEPS COUNT OF HOW MUCH CONTENT DIVS IS ON THE PAGE while($row = $result->fetch_assoc()){ //START A CONTENT DIV echo '<div class="content"><div class="name">' . $row['victim'] . '</div><div class="cod">' . $row['cod'] . '</div></div>'; //END A CONTENT DIV $pagecount++; //UP THE PAGE COUNT } } $pagecount=0; //PUT IT BACK TO 0 echo '</div>'; //END PAGE } $db->close(); ?> <div style="background-image:url(images/backpage.jpg);"></div> //BACK PAGE </div> At the moment i seem to be causing and infinite loop so the page won't load. The problem resides within the while loops. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys. :)

  • How to design websites for all display sizes

    - by katie bekell
    I like to use a lot of unique graphics on my pages, which often results in making different page sizes depending on available screen width/height. Here are two examples: http://www.uvm.edu/~areid/homesite/ - the image floats at the bottom of my screen but on a larger browser, the image floats near the middle making it look off. It looks best when the bottom of the window aligns with the bottom of the image www.stevenlebel.com - it loads two different pages depending on what monitor size is detected. This seems like a lot of redundant coding. My question is, how can I make sliced/Photoshop images transition well to different screen sizes. Does Photoshop allow you to make DIVS instead of tables? Can i make each of the slices created by Photoshop grow/shrink when the browser window size changes? If anyone has any input on creating websites like this I would be very interested to hear what they have to say. Thanks Katie

Thanks in advance, John echo '<form action="http://www...com/.../submit2.php" method="post"> <input type="hidden" value="'.$_SESSION['loginid'].'" name="uid"> <div class="submissiontitle"><label for="title">Story Title:</label></div> <div class="submissionfield"><input name="title" type="title" id="title" maxlength="1000"></div> <div class="urltitle"><label for="url">Link:</label></div> <div class="urlfield"><input name="url" type="url" id="url" maxlength="500"></div> <div class="submissionbutton"><input name="submit" type="submit" value="Submit"></div> </form> '; The CSS: .submissiontitle { position:absolute; width:100px; left:30px; top:200px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color:#000000; } .submissionfield { position:absolute; width:550px; left:50px; top:230px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family: "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 22px; color:#000000; } .urltitle { position:absolute; width:250px; left:30px; top:300px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color:#000000; } .urlfield { position:absolute; width:550px; left:30px; top:330px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; color:#000000; } .submissionbutton { position:absolute; width:250px; left:30px; top:380px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; color:#000000; } .submittitle { position:absolute; width:250px; left:30px; top:150px; text-align: left; margin-bottom:3px; padding:0px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color:#000000; }

  • pagination in css/php

    - by fusion
    two questions: --1-- it displays all the number of pages. but i'd like it to display as: << Prev . . 3 4 [5] 6 7 . . Next --2-- when i hover on the current page no, it should change color or increase the font-size, but when i modify the css of a:hover, all the page nos change color or size instead of the one which i'm pointing to. also, when modifying a:active, nothing happens. this is my paging code in php: $self = $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; $limit = 2; //Number of results per page $numpages=ceil($totalrows/$limit); $query = $query." ORDER BY idQuotes LIMIT " . ($page-1)*$limit . ",$limit"; $result = mysql_query($query, $conn) or die('Error:' .mysql_error()); ?> <div class="caption">Search Results</div> <div class="center_div"> <table> <?php while ($row= mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $cQuote = highlightWords(htmlspecialchars($row['cQuotes']), $search_result); ?> <tr> <td style="text-align:right; font-size:15px;"><?php h($row['cArabic']); ?></td> <td style="font-size:16px;"><?php echo $cQuote; ?></td> <td style="font-size:12px;"><?php h($row['vAuthor']); ?></td> <td style="font-size:12px; font-style:italic; text-align:right;"><?php h($row['vReference']); ?></td> </tr> <?php } ?> </table> </div> <div class="searchmain"> <?php //Create and print the Navigation bar $nav=""; $next = $page+1; $prev = $page-1; if($page > 1) { $nav .= "<span class=\"searchpage\"><a onclick=\"showPage('','$prev'); return false;\" href=\"$self?page=" . $prev . But i have a feeling that is not a good solution.

  • Hiding Text in ie7

    - by user356849
    So I have this text generated by a javascript plugin. <a class="className">Text</a> a.className { background: url(images/a-image.png) no-repeat; } But the "Text" shows on top of the image... Now... with any respectable web browser, I can use color: rgba(0,0,0,0); to solve the problem, but IE7 doesn't obey standards of any sort. Any ideas?

  • adding new Input to jquery validationEngine form?

    - by Hailwood
    I have some fairly complex ajax logic etc going on in the onValidationComplete function for a form with jQuery Validation Engine. This is working perfect, but one thing is bothering me. in the form I have the ability to dynamically add inputs (add new row button). so my code structure wise looks like: var form = $('#myForm'); form.validationEngine('attach', {onValidationComplete:validationComplete}); $('#newInput').on('click', function(){ form.append('<input />'); form.validationEngine('detach'); form.validationEngine('attach', {onValidationComplete:validationComplete}); }); function validationComplete(form, status){/*all my logic here*/} What I don't like about it is that every time I add a new input I have to detach and then re-attach the validationEngine. Is there any way to just tell it to add the new input to it's list of inputs to validate?

  • What's the best way to write a maintainable web scraping app?

    - by Benj
    I wrote a perl script a while ago which logged into my online banking and emailed me my balance and a mini-statement every day. I found it very useful for keeping track of my finances. The only problem is that I wrote it just using perl and curl and it was quite complicated and hard to maintain. After a few instances of my bank changing their webpage I got fed up of debugging it to keep it up to date. So what's the best way of writing such a program in such a way that it's easy to maintain? I'd like to write a nice well engineered version in either Perl or Java which will be easy to update when the bank inevitably fiddle with their web site.

  • How to make Dropdown menu using :hover on <a> in place of hover on <ul>?

    - by metal-gear-solid
    IE 6 only support :Hover on <a> then can we make css drop down using :hover on <a> http://htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/ This example use JavaScript to add hover on LI 'sfhover' class to li elements in the 'nav' id'd ul element when they are 'moused over' and removes it, using a regular expression, when 'moused out'. So now we've got the Suckerfish pumping out new classes, the next step is to simply duplicate the :hover selector with 'sfhover' class selectors:

  • Why NOT use POST method here?

    - by Camran
    I have a classifieds website. In the main page (index) I have several form fields which the user may or may not fill in, in order to specify a detailed search of classifieds. Ex: Category: Cars Price from: 3000 Price to: 10000 Color: Red Area: California The forms' action is set to a php page: <form action='query_sql.php' method='post'> In query_sql.php I fetch the variables like this: category=$_POST['category']; etc etc... Then query MySql: $query="SELECT........WHERE category='$category' etc etc.... $results = mysql_query($query); Then I simply display the results of the query to the user by creating a table which is filled in dynamically depending on the results set. However, according to an answer by Col. Shrapnel in my previous Q I shouldn't use POST here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3004754/how-to-hide-url-from-users-when-submitting-this-form The reason I use post is simply to hide the "one-page-word-document" long URL in the browsers adress bar. I am very confused, is it okay to use POST or not? It is working fine both when I use GET or POST now... And it is already on a production server... Btw, in the linked question, I wasn't referring to make URL invisible (or hide it) I just wanted it too look better (which I have accomplished with mod_rewrite). UPDATE: If I use GET, then how should I make the url better looking (beautiful)? Check this previous Q out: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3000524/how-to-make-this-very-long-url-appear-short

  • European signs in img src problem

    - by Rakoon
    Hey. I recently encountered a strange problem on my website. Images with æ ø and å in them (Western European signs) Won't display. The character encoding on all sites is "Iso-8859-1" I can print æ ø and å on the page without problems. If I right click the "broken image" and choose properties, it displays the filename with the european signs. (/admin/content/galleri/å.jpg) the code for img looks like this <img name='bilde' src='content/{$_SESSION["linkname"]}/{$row["img"]}' class='topmargin_ss leftmargin_ms rightmargin_s' width='80' height='80'> (Wasn't allowed to post images so the code is without starting and ending brackets) Made 4 files: z.jpg æ.jpg ø.jpg å.jpg Only z.jpg shows up, they are the exact same jpg. The images are uploaded using php code, which works, uploads to the right directory and has no problem with the european signs. Does anybody know what could be causing this?
