  • jQuery UI datepicker will not display - full code included

    I am having trouble displaying the jQuery datepicker as shown here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker/ I believe I downloaded all of the proper files, but to be certain, I started from scratch and ripped the demo site. Not all of it, but what I believed to be the important parts. The result is no datepicker to be shown and no javascript errors.   • I want to request JSON inside of a WordPress page.

    Hello Everyone, For the last few hours I've been trying to set up this http://code.google.com/apis/books/docs/dynamic-links.html on a WordPress blog. Google's API sends back a JSON response (which is supposed to be "put" into _GBSBookInfo variable). However, that variable never is assigned so my javascript callback function explodes saying the variable doesn't exist. So far, all of my javascript is in the WordPress header. I tried this outside of WordPress and it works fine.   • What is the best way to identify which form has been submitted?

    Currently, when I design my forms, I like to keep the name of the submit button equal to the id of the form. Then, in my php, I just do if(isset($_POST['submitName'])) in order to check if a form has been submitted and which form has been submitted. Firstly, are there any security problems or design flaws with this method? One problem I have encountered is when I wish to overlay my forms with javascript in order to provide faster validation to the user. For example, whilst I obviously need to retain server side validation, it is more convenient for the user if an error message is displayed inline, upon blurring an input. Additionally, it would be good to provide entire form validation, upon clicking the submit button. Therefore, when the user clicks on the form's submit button, I am stopping the default action, doing my validation, and then attempting to renable the traditional submit functionality, if the validation passes. In order to do this, I am using the form.submit() method but, unfortunately, this doesn't send the submit button variable (as it should be as form.submit() can be called without any button being clicked). This means my PHP script fails to detect that the form has been submitted. What is the correct way to work around this? It seems like the standard solution is to add a hidden field into the form, upon passing validation, which has the name of form's id. Then when form.submit() is called, this is passed along in place of the submit button. However, this solution seems very ungraceful to me and so I am wondering whether I should: a) Use an alternative method to detect which form has been submitted which doesn't rely rely on passing the submit button. If so what alternative is there? Obviously, just having an extra hidden field from the start isn't any better. b) Use an alternative Javascript solution which allows me to retain my non-Javascript design. For example, is there an alternative to form.submit() which allows me to pass in extra data? c) Suck it up and just insert a hidden field using Javascript.

    Hi, I'm making a system where a user clicks a button and their score increases. There is a counter which I would like to increase the value of using jQuery (so that the page does not need to refresh) when the button is clicked. Anyway if anyone has a suggestion on how to figure out the image src in the onload and onerror event handlers that works in IE I would really appreciate it. Or even how to figure out after the images have loaded which have loaded and which haven't (but not graphically - I need to generate an array containing the filenames of the images that didn't load).   • Multiple jQuery.noConflict() instances...

    I am working with several jQuery scripts that include a MenuFader (http://css-tricks.com/examples/MenuFader/), twitter feed, and timestamp. Additionally I have a couple Mootools scripts that include the Barackslideshow (http://devthought.com/wp-content/moogets/BarackSlideshow/demo.html). And finally I have a scrolling ticker with tooltips taken from the twitter homepage. I originally had a conflict with the Jquery MenuFader and Mootools BarackSlideshow, but easily fixed this issue with the jQuery.noconflict(); and replaced all corresponding $ with jQuery. Unfortunately, after I added the scrolling ticker from Twitter, the Mootools BarackSlideshow and the Jquery MenuFader no longer work. I tried to implement jQuery.noconflict(); then $.noconflict(); then var j = jQuery.noconflict(); and replacing the $ as I did previously, but I cannot get the scripts to play nicely. Any help is greatly appreciated...I have been working on this all day. I am pretty new with javascript, but have managed to get through most problems with a little persistence.   • jQuery UI - Sortable isn't firing?

    Hi, I'm trying to get the jQuery UI sortable plugin to work and I've created a list that looks like this: <ul id="sortable"> <li>Item 1</li> <li>Item 2</li> <li>Item 3</li> <li>Item 4</li> <li>Item 5</li> </ul> And I've included the plugin script files: $(function() { $("#sortable").sortable(); alert('test'); $("#sortable").disableSelection(); }); So I just tried putting the alert box before .sortable is run and the alertbox is showing. But putting it after .sortable isn't working. Which means that .sortable is failing right?     Hi, I want to update this very simple JS to Mootools 1.2 and it's not easy.   • jQuery "best practices" is an oxymoron [closed]

    jQuery "best practices", oxymoron for several reasons sadly To speak candidly, the entire jQuery library has a HIGHLY inconsistent API, and virtually no coding standards. It's basically a subset of JavaScript, a new language if you will, which is probably the most confusing part for normal javascript developers. In my opinion, use normal JavaScript where possible to save on memory consumption. Or, better yet, use a professional tool like YUI. If you already come from a javascript background, you will appreciate it much more than jQuery because it doesn't have n00b wrappers around everything. In tools like YUI, you interact directly with the native DOM to do things, instead of a super-jQuery object that tries to do everything. I'll get voted down for saying the truth. Don't get me wrong, jQuery is cool if you wanna throw something flashy up quick, but if you're going to build a larger app you're going to need a more refined tool (especially since jQuery leaks memory like no other once you start chaining too much things). jQuery does have one of the lowest learning curves, and you won't outgrow it for awhile, but when you do it will be highly apparent and tedious to merge to something else. over 60 years programming experience someone clean this up and community wiki please

  • Google Maps: Simple app not working on IE

    We have a simple Google Maps traffic application up at: http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/newsroom/traffic/ For some reason it's recently stopped working in IE correctly. At this point in time it was using V2 of the API, so I've just upgraded it to use V3 - but it still won't work in IE. It works fine in Chrome & Firefox. But in all versions of IE I've tired (6,7,8) the Google Map doesn't load fully. The problem The Google Map DIV will generally load all the controls (Zoom, Powered by Google, map types) but the actual map tiles do not appear in IE.     I'm creating a new Drupal theme. Until now, I only needed to include a single css file and a single js file. So my theme.info file had something like this: stylesheets[all][] = css/style.css scripts[] = js/script.js Now I must include jquery and jquery-ui in order to use a calendar date. These come with 2 new javascript files, and 1 additonal css file that I must add to the site. The calendar input form is going to be used in all pages (on a side block) so it is ok for me to load the extra css/javascript on all pages. I think the easiest thing would be to reference them on the .info file itself. At first I tried to just put them there with separate spaces: stylesheets[all][] = css/style.css css/ui-lightness/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.css scripts[] = js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js js/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js js/reservations.js I emptied drupal's cache and... none of them loaded. I then tried separating each file with a comma, and flushing the cache again. Same result. I've browsed some drupal pages, but could not find how to add several javascript/css files on one theme (they always seem to add just 1 of each). So, how do I include several css/javascript files on the .info file?

  • Initializing Disqus comments in hidden element causes issue in FF 14.0.1

    This issue appears only in Firefox 14.0.1 (well I couldn't reproduce it in any other browser). If you put the code for Disqus comments inside an element that is hidden and wait until everything is fully loaded and then display the element using JavaScript, the comment box nor comments will show up. However if you resize the window, it'll show up immediately. It's working fine in latest version of Google Chrome and Safari though. What's causing this and how to fix it?   • HREF link that targets nothing, does not want to use hash or void(0)

    I have a link that I want to be able to click to trigger a piece of jQuery code. Currently I have <a href="#" id="foo">Link</a> and $('#foo').click(function(){ // Do stuff }); which works well. But, I have always hated using hash in this way. The page flickers and the hash is added to the page url. One alternative is to use <a href="javascript:void(0);" id="foo">Link</a> but I also dislike seeing that piece of code in the browser status bar. It looks tacky. What I'd rather have is an explanatory javascript placeholder that does nothing, like <a href="javascript:zoom();" id="foo">Link</a> which actually works, but throws an ReferenceError in the javascript console since there are no such function. What's the minimum definition of a function that does nothing? Are there any other alternatives? Should I just skip the link and use something like <span id="foo" style="cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;">Link</span> instead?

    I have read this question and I'm still not sure whether it is possible to keep pointers to methods in an array in Java, if anyone knows if this is possible or not it would be a real help. I'm trying to find an elegant solution of keeping a list of Strings and associated functions without writing a mess of hundreds of 'if's. Cheers edit- 'functions' changed to 'methods', seems to bug people.

  • Multiple jQuery includes in a document

    Hi, I have a document which uses old jQuery and I need new jQuery for a particular plug-in. My document structure looks like this: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="jQuery.old.js"></script> </head> <body> <script> $("#elem").doSomething(); // use old jQuery </script> <!-------- My plugin begins --------> <script type="text/javascript" src="jQuery.new.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jQuery.doSomething.js"></script> <script> $().ready(function(){ $("#elem").doSomething(); // use new jQuery }); </script> <div id="elem"></div> <!-------- My plugin ends ----------> <script> $("#elem").doSomething(); // use old jQuery </script> </body> </html> I have googled for this question but found nothing that would look like my case (I need first to load old javascript (in the head) and THEN new (in the body). By the way, in the Firefox looks like old jQuery lib loads and scripts that depends on it works, but script that uses new version, and in IE and Chrome everything is exactly opposite.

But these methods and functions are not getting called properly as java script files are not getting included through ajax call.   • Calling a non-exported function in a DLL

    I have a program which loads DLLs and I need to call one of the non-exported functions it contains. Is there any way I can do this, via searching in a debugger or otherwise? Before anyone asks, yes I have the prototypes and stuff for the functions.
