• How can I create global context variables in JBOSS?

  This is a follow-up to a question I posted a while back: "Can I use a single WAR in multiple environments?". I was able to create a single-war solution in Tomcat, but now we are migrating our app to JBoss 4.2 and I can't figure out how to set up global environment variables. In Tomcat 6 this was pretty straightforward: I simply put the following snippet in tomcat/conf/Catalina/myappname.xml: <Context ...> <Environment name="TARGET_ENV" value="DEV" type="java.lang.String" override="false"/> </Context> Then in my app I was able to resolve the environment name with the following: Context context = (Context) InitialContext().lookup("java:comp/env"); String targetEnvironment = (String) context.lookup("TARGET_ENV"); The problem is that I can't find out where/how to place global variables in JBoss. I've tried putting the <Environment> tag in the following files to no avail: server/all/deploy/jboss-web.deployer/context.xml server/default/deploy/jboss-web.deployer/context.xml I know that I can put environment variables in my app's web.xml but that defeats the purpose of having a unified war - I'd still need custom .war's for dev, qa and prod. I'm a JBoss newbie so if there's any additional information that would help just let me know and I'll append to this question. Many thanks! --N

• Outstanding issues with jQuery.ajax() in IE8?

I have tried to use IE8's Developer tools to see where exactly it fails, but I haven't been successful yet. So two questions Is there anything blatantly wrong with my ajax call here that could be preventing me from seeing it in IE where it works in FF/Chrome? Are there any special considerations I have to make for the Internet Explorer family of browsers with regards to this particular jQuery method? I've done some googling on this but nothing obvious is coming up. One other note: I am currently using jQuery 1.3.2 due to some legacy scripts on the same site. I did try loading 1.4.2 and it had the same results on IE8

• Populating a Datagrid with variable number of columns and rows in Flex

  I am trying to figure out how to manage a Datagrid based on an XML object like this: <matrix rows="5" columns="5"> <column> <row>0.5</row> <row>0.21</row> </column> <column> <row>0.6</row> <row>0.9</row> </column> <column> <row>0.5</row> <row>0.5</row> </column> <column> <row>0.8</row> <row>0.4</row> </column> </matrix> I will need to populate the Datagrid column names based on a different XML object and use the above XML to populate each of the column's rows. I currently am able to create the Datagrid and populate its column headers but I am unsure as to how to how to add the rows for each column. The above XML will be update with new row and column elements added and deleted. This, of course, will be bound to the Datagrid to show updates. Thanks in advanced for your help.

• Importing data from third party datasource (open architecture design )

  How would you design an application (classes, interfaces in class library) in .NET when we have a fixed database design on our side and we need to support imports of data from third party data sources, which will most likely be in XML? For instance, let us say we have a Products table in our DB which has columns Id Title Description TaxLevel Price and on the other side we have for instance Products: ProductId ProdTitle Text BasicPrice Quantity. Currently I do it like this: Have the third party XML convert to classes and XSD's and then deserialize its contents into strong typed objects (what we get as a result of this process is classes like ThirdPartyProduct, ThirdPartyClassification, etc.). Then I have methods like this: InsertProduct(ThirdPartyProduct newproduct) I do not use interfaces at the moment but I would like them to. What I would like is implement something like public class Contoso_ProductSynchronization : ProductSynchronization InsertProduct(ContosoProduct p) where ProductSynchronization will be an interface or abstract class. There will most likely be many implementations of ProductSynchronization. I cannot hardcode the types - classes like ContosoProduct, NorthwindProduct might be created from the third party XML's (so preferably I would continue to use deserialization). Hopefully someone will understand what I'm trying to explain here. Just imagine you are the seller and you have numerous providers and each one uses their own proprietary XML format. I don't mind the development, which will of course be needed everytime new format appears, because it will only require 10-20 methods to be implemented, I just want the architecture to be open and support that.

  Dojo seems to have a useful feature in that it can setup event handlers and default options, etc for Dijit.form elements as it is inserting it into the DOM. • How to provide i18n service for developer and end user

  Many android applications have quite poor i18n-support, and for an understandable reason, as it adds much work for the developer. From a both intuitive and cultural point of view it would be a good thing if end-users could translate the apps themself, and OTA share the translation, without reinstalling the app itself. In concept; as wikipedia, some add content easily, others only use what's there. It's of course important that the service is as easy as possible to use, both for app-developers, and people willing to transcribe. To keep it simple, this is the solution I'm concidering; Developer perspective: Developer uses a customized setContentView when open activities/layouts that will seach for thanslations of xml-entries. (below) The customized version is provided as a free downloadable library/class..., turning the i18n feature to more or less a one liner. User perspective: User downloads app without any translation As app launches, it checks locale running at phone, and will look for a translated xml-file at shared space in SD. If no or old transcribed xml (above), try to download new from internet-service (ansync). This is all done by library above, no need for intents. Translator perspective: Separate app to provide translations for any app using the i18n service above. (Could be just a webapp), with some form of QA on translators/input. QUESTION: Now, for this to work efficiently, it has to be AeasyAP for the developer to even bother, and the most fluent solution would be a customized version of setContentView, that simply loads the translated values from external xml, instead of the ones in the apk. Is this possible at all, and if not, what's your suggested solutions? (And of course, Happy New Year, feliz ano novo, blwyddyn newydd dda, Gott Nytt År, kontan ane nouvo, szczesliwego nowego roku ...) Regards, /T

If i amend this line: $twitterHost = "http://twitter.com/favorites.xml"; And change it to: $twitterHost = "http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=2"; I can get the next set of 20 favorites. There doesnt appear to be anyway, using the Twitter API, to find out how many pages of favorites there are. As such can anyone suggest the best way to get all favorites? Or if this is not possible, get all the Tweets for a date range?

• Problems with Backbone.Model callback and THIS

• Web Reference Code generator template.

  I Have an internal SOAP Web service that is being called from an external REST service in .NET it works fine however I am simply passing through the SOAP objects of the REST Layer but the automatic generation of the WebReference Code in Visual Studio adds the 'field' to the end of every attribute. basically it makes my XML look all nasty. Everything works I just want to clean up my XML. Any ideas how i can change the template for the reference.cs or to make the XML generate nicely from the Web Service Objects. • Parallel Processing Simulation in Javascript

  Hello, I'm new to JavaScript so forgive me for being a n00b. When there's intensive calculation required, it more than likely involves loops that are recursive or otherwise. Sometimes this may mean having am recursive loop that runs four functions and maybe each of those functions walks the entire DOM tree, read positions and do some math for collision detection or whatever. While the first function is walking the DOM tree, the next one will have to wait its for the first one to finish, and so forth. Instead of doing this, why not launch those loops-within-loops separately, outside the programs, and act on their calculations in another loop that runs slower because it isn't doing those calculations itself? Retarded or clever? Thanks in advance!

  Hi everyone, I'm stuck with a stupid problem of encoding. My problem is that all my accentuated characters are displayed as weird iso characters. Example : é is displayed %E9 I send a string to my php file : XMLLoader.load(new URLRequest(online+"/query.php?Query=" + q)); XMLLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,XMLLoaded); When I trace q, I get : "INSERT INTO hello_world (message) values('éàaà');" The GOOD query My php file look like this : <?php include("conection.php");//Conectiong to database $Q = $_GET['Query']; $query = $Q; $resultID = mysql_query($query) or die("Could not execute or probably SQL statement malformed (error): ". mysql_error()); $xml_output = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>\n"; // XML header $xml_output .= "<answers>\n"; $xml_output .= "<lastID id=".'"'.mysql_insert_id().'"'." />\n"; $xml_output .= "<query string=".'"'.$query.'"'." />\n"; $xml_output .= "</answers>"; echo $xml_output;//Output the XML ?> When I get back my XML into flash the $query looks like this : "INSERT INTO hello_world (message) values('%E9%E0a%E0');" And these values are then displayed into my DB which is annoying. • My treeview Data is Not changing.

  Hai , I am trying to display the user permission in a treeview.For each user permissions are stored in the database as xml file. In the page, a Combo box used to list the users and a treeView used to bind the Permission xml. When the user get selected in the combo box , i took the xml from the database and connect with xmlDatasource and bind with the treeView. What happening is , First time the TreeView fill with the xml nodes and another time it will not work. For the first selection it's ok. Anothers selections are not effected by the treeview. The code is debugging. No problem. Can you just tell ,why the treeview datasource is not updating. I used this code .. • Using Java classes(whole module with Spring/Hibernate dependency) in Grails

  I have a Java/Spring/Hibernate application with a payment module. Payment module has some domain classes for payment subscription and transactions etc. Corresponding hibernate mapping files are there. This module uses applicationContext.xml for some of the configuration it needs. Also, This module has a PaymentService which uses a paymentDAO to do all database related work. Now, I want to use this module as it is(without any or minimal re-writing) in my other application(Grails application). I want to bring in the payment module as a jar or copy the source files to src/java folder in Grails. With that background, I have following queries: Will the existing applicationContext.xml for Spring configuration in the module will work as it is in Grails? Does it merge with rest of Grails's Spring config? Where do I put the applicationContext.xml? classpath? src/java should work? Can I bundle the applicationContext.xml in Jar(If I use jar option) and can overwrite in Grails if anything needs to be changed? Multiple bean definition problems in that case? PaymentService recognized as regular service? Will it be auto-injected in controllers and/or other services? Will PaymentDAO use the datasource configuration of Grails? Where do I put the hbm files of this module? Can I bundle the hbm files in Jar(If I use jar option) and can overwrite in Grails if anything needs to be changed? Which hbms are picked? or, there will be problems with that? Too many questions! :) All these concerns are actually before trying. I am going to try this in next few days(busy currently).   I writing a webapp which uploads images to imgur directly. Since all older version of their APIs have been deprecated i am forced to use v3 of their APIs. Unfortunately I am unable to get the API to work. • How can I append and execute a script inside an iframe in a cross browser way (specifically IE!)?

  Background: I need to load ad scripts after the DOM has loaded. Because many of the scripts use document.write() and other potentially bad functions to run after the DOM has loaded, I want to load the scripts inside an iframe. So when the ad needs to be shown, an event is triggered which does the following: var iframe = document.createElement('iframe'); iframe.setAttribute('id', 'iframeId'); iframe.setAttribute('src', 'about:blank'); var adContainer = document.getElementById('AdContainer'); adContainer.appendChild(iframe); var val = '<html><head></head><body>'; val += '<scr' + 'ipt type="text/javascript" src="' + url + '"></scr' + 'ipt>'; val += '</body></html>'; If I don't assign the html and body tags to val, the script automatically gets appended to the head of the iframe and fails to execute in FF. In IE, the script doesn't execute with or without the head/body/html tags. var doc = iframe.contentWindow || iframe.contentDocument; if (doc.document){ doc = doc.document } doc.open(); doc.write(val); doc.close(); I found this last bit of code here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1591135/why-does-appending-a-script-to-a-dynamically-created-iframe-seem-to-run-the-s. I do NOT want to load jquery in the iframe though, I just want to append a script and have it execute. My current solution seems to work great in FF and Webkit. However, IE doesn't execute the script. The script is written to the page, but doesn't start running. Is there a better way to append the script to the iframe so it will run cross browser? Or is it possible to tell IE to run the script? I know that I could load an external document with the ad script via the iframe, but I don't want to make the extra call to my server if I can do this dynamically. Also, I've tried using appendChild() on the iframe's body to insert the script, but since the script element is created outside the iframe's DOM this doesn't seem to work.

• Observing 'click' event on <a> tag generated by scriptaculous Builder

  I'm using scriptaculous Builder to generate some DOM elements dynamically, and one of them is a link tag. I wasn't sure how to generate this with the click callback inline along with the rest of the Builder code, so I'm generating the link tag ahead of time and then inserting it with the rest of the Builder phase. The problem is that the callback for the link is never actually executed when I click the link, and the URL bar changes to http://localhost/foo/bar/# instead.   How to parse CSS (CSS3) selector and use it (in jQuery-like way) to collect HTML elements not from DOM (from tree structure), but from stream (e.g. SAX), i.e. using sequential access parser? Are there CSS selectors that need access to DOM (Wikipedia SAX page says that XPath selectors "need to be able to access any node at any time in the parsed XML tree")? I am most inetersted in implementing selector combinators, e.g. 'A B' descendant selector. I prefer solutions describing algorithm, or in Perl.

  I use Hibernate3 and Hibernate Tools 3.2.4 to generate hbm.xml and java files and I want to use List instead of HashSet(...). I've tried to modify the hbm.xml files, putting list instead of set. Is there any way to specify to hibernate tools that I want to generate automatically a list not a HashSet? • How does jQuery have asynchronous functions?

  I'm surprised I can't find a clear answer to this. So, in jQuery, you can do this: $(someElements).fadeOut(1000); $(someElements).remove(); Which, will start a fadeOut animation, but before it finishes executing in the 1 second duration, the elements are removed from the DOM. But how is this possible? I keep reading the JavaScript is single threaded. ( Is javascript guaranteed to be single-threaded? ) This question is not "How do I fix this?" I know I can do either: $(someElements).fadeOut(1000).promise().done(function() { $(someElements).remove();});, or even better:$(someElements).fadeOut(1000, function() { $(this).remove(); } ); What I don't understand is how JavaScript runs in a "single thread" but I'm able to use these jQuery functions that execute asynchronously and visibly see the DOM change in different places at the same time. How does it work?

  Hey everyone, I am currently doing some XML parsing and I've chosen to use Hpricot because of it's ease of use and syntax, however I am running into some problems. I need to write a piece of XML data that I have found out to another file. However, when I do this the format is not preserved. For example, if the content should look like this: <dict> <key>item1</key><value>12345</value> <key>item2</key><value>67890</value> <key>item3</key><value>23456</value> </dict> And assuming that there are many entries like this in the document. I am iterating through the 'dict' items by using hpricot_element = Hpricot(xml_document_body) f = File.new('some_new_file.xml') (hpricot_element/:dict).each { |dict| f.write( dict.to_original_html ) } After using the above code, I would expect that the output look like the following exactly like the XML shown above. However to my surprise, the output of the file looks more like this: <dict>\n", " <key>item1</key><value>12345</value>\n", " <key>item2</key><value>67890</value>\n", " <key>item3</key><value>23456</value\n", " </dict> I've tried splitting at the "\n" characters and writing to the file one line at a time, but that didn't seem to work either as it did not recognize the "\n" characters. Any help is greatly appreciated. It might be a very simple solution, but I am having troubling finding it. Thanks!

• Netbeans, JPA Entity Beans in seperate projects. Unknown entity bean class

  I am working in Netbeans and have my entity beans and web services in separate projects. I include the entity beans in the web services project however the ApplicaitonConfig.java file keeps getting over written and removing the entries I make for the entity beans in the associated jar file. My question is: is it required to have both the EntityBeans and the WebServices share the same project/jar file? Unfortunately the problem still persists. I have opened the WAR file and validated that the EntityBean.jar file is the latest version and is located in the WEB-INF/lib directory of the War file. I think it is tied to the fact that the entities are not being "registered" with the entity manager. However i do not know why they are not being registered.

  Hello, I have a xmlWriter and want to write String which containt chars of "/" "<" "" (which are part of the xml syntax and break the xml code).
