• C# .NET 4.0 interactive course?

  I would like to learn C# programming. I already studied it for several weeks and wrote some minor programs with VS2010, and I'm not completely newbie at programming because I worked on STALKER - Shadow of Chernobyl as scripter, but it was LUA. I want to become a real programmer. I think C# is a decent way to start with. I already learned about the most commonly used resource sites and got some nice eBooks as well, but unfortunately I don't have time to sit down in front my computer all the time, so my progress is pretty slow. I would like to ask that if someone can recommend me some decent interactive online courses to make my learning progress faster. I know about the "joe grip" course but I don't know if it's worth $39 also it's only for .NET 1.x and 2.0 while I'd like to learn 4.0 so I have no idea what should I do.

• Pitfalls of using a WYSIWYG editor? [closed]

  I'm interested in reasons for disallowing content editors on medium to large sites, from using various forms of WYSIWYG editors. A common problematic scenario I can think of is that with the use of a WYSIWYG, an editor uploads an image "somewhere" to the file-system, inserts it directly into the text, and publishes the article. Shortly afterwards, someone wants to pull out "The last 10 uploaded images", and display them on the frontpage. Good luck parsing all the content. Taking a look around at some large international online magazines, such as http://www.time.com/, and some local ones, I see that the editors seem to produce articles that are almost only consisting of raw text. Images are usually at the top of the article, and otherwise the most complex content are usually links. What are some common reasons for refusing editors access to WYSIWYG tools?

• Hosting rails sites; vps or shared, and how much ram? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I have 3 rails sites to launch, all of which are fairly small and consisting of a custom cms, one with an online store, and 2 sinatra sites which are mainly static, portfolio sites. What would be the best way to host these sites (I've deployed on dreamhost shared before and some vps's) Is it best to manage them together under one vps? e.g linode $20/m (for the cheapest option, 512mb and would that even be enough ram?) or keep each rails site separate and host each one on a small vps? e.g $4/m (there's often lots of deals like this on webhostingtalk) I'm currently hosting the sinatra sites for free on heroku but finding it a bit slow sometimes.

• Row Versioning Concurrency in SQL Server

  The optimistic concurrency model assumes that several concurrent transactions can usually complete without interfering with each other, and therefore do not require draconian locking on the resources they access. SQL Server 2005, and later, implements a form of this model called row versioning concurrency. It works by remembering the value of the data at the start of the transaction and checking that no other transaction has modified it before committing. • Where can I get the 11.04 kernel .config file?

  I'm using Maverick with the latest available kernels on kernel.org and building them myself. Until now I've been basing my configuration off the stock Maverick kernel and accepting the make oldconfig defaults. I've been doing this for 3 major releases now so I figure I'm starting to slip behind the current "standard". I would like to re-base my kernels off the new Natty .config file. Is this available somewhere online or do I have to download the whole kernel package and extract it? Edit: I've manually pulled in the config from the latest Natty kernel package and I can confirm that I propbably should have done this sooner. A lot of differences between my old "evolved" config and the Natty default. Now if I could just do this without 20 minutes of hunting and downloading the package so I can re-base in the future.

• Learning MySQL Query optimization

  I've been doing web/desktop/server development for a while and have worked with many databases (mysql mostly). I've come to the point in my career when I need to have someone look at my queries because they're 'kind of slow'. I believe it's now time to start learning query optimization. While I know the basics of index and joins etc., I'm not familiar with how to use, say, the EXPLAIN output to improve performance of my queries. I have not been able to find any online material that starts with the basics and takes me to application. • Portable website

  I have an online presentation to do next week and I have it all ready to go. The website is HTML and CSS only (no DB), and currently resides on my shared hosting account. Now, although my shared hosting is (relatively) reliable, I have noticed that recently they have been making some changes and my website has been unavailable at times. I don't want this to happen to me on the morning of my presentation, so I am asking what is the best way to prepare for such a thing? My domain is www.presentation.mydomain.com and I would like to keep this if possible (even if issues arise). I have been thinking of a few alternatives: Host my site on two different domains or servers (but what about the domain name?) Have a portable XAMPP version on a USB stick (again, domain name?) Possible failover site/location Update The presentation will be carried out on their laptop, not mine. So I am unable to install any software.

  I just wanted to say hello and ask a few simple questions. I have recently dove into programming with c# and have been curious what everyone else's experiences have been with when learning and starting out. What are some things that you can say that really have made a difference in your understanding and usages of any particular language? I lurk several forums but for some reason have always just kept to myself, and I've realized today that I'm not fully utilizing my resources when it comes to interacting with the community. With that being said, I realize that everyone that is interested in programming inherently is a natural problem solver and would like also to ask you to share your process of learning. Are you the type to have a short term project to tackle a general set of problems you're likely to encounter? • Ubuntu 11.10 boot: xhost: unable to open display

  I've had this papercut for a while now, it's time it was fixed. When I boot up Ubuntu, choosing "Ubuntu...generic" from the grub screen, Ubuntu fails to load. It just sits at the driver/module loading screen. What seems to be the most significant line in this output is "xhost: unable to open display" If I choose "Ubuntu...(recovery mode)" from grub then it loads OK. I don't get why this is. Out of interest I tried enabling boot error logging with #/etc/default/bootlogd BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes but I'm not seeing anything in that file. ETA: I've had this problem since fresh install of 11.10. • Successful business proposal; How to negotiate with employer for bonuses on the project [on hold]

  I'm the lone programmer at a small business which is falling head-over-heels for a website proposal I wrote on a project they were considering. Next week is the company meeting where it will be formally presented to the owners, and if the project is accepted it could become a (relatively) huge revenue stream when finished. Despite all the buzz I have no financial stake in the success or failure of the project. I know I haven't been profitable and they can't pay me what I should be making. I'm also the only non-management employee with no way to earn a bonus, despite having one of the most demanding jobs in the office. I'd like to know if there's any resources or advice for programmers or employees to negotiate and get invested in a projects success. Just a way to guarantee if I prove my worth I can move up a rung or two.

  I am trying to save bone joints to a file, and am using this format. I was wondering if anyone could clear up a few questions I have why do I need to provide rotation data for the bone, if I already gave it the location? How do I calculate the rotation of each axis if I have the relative location from the parent joint? ** EDIT ** After doing some more digging, I think that it has something to do with quaternions, so, could someone point me to a good resource on using quaternions for bone joints? ** EDIT AGAIN ** I think I've solved it, but I don't understand how it works. I just want to install ubuntu because it is suppose to get rid of most of the virus problems, so anyway I was following online instructions to install ubuntu alongside windows 7 these are my laptop specifications. I tried booting with a pendrive using netbootin and other similar program but once I boot the laptop in ubuntu I click try without installing button and go to desktop then my mouse stops working.   I'm fairly new to OpenGL and I'm have been researching any books that would be beneficial, I've had suggested to me (I've finished reading the OpenGL Book online): Real Time Rendering GPU Gems 3 OpenGL Super Bible Does anyone know any other books that they've found useful in the past, even if it covers higher level algorithms. Also, can anyone suggest an IDE/Text Editor for Linux? I'm using Komodo and it's super buggy, I just booted into Windows today and tried Visual Studio and loved it, is their anything similar for Linux? Although, the books I've been reading are saying to not use IDEs, partly because of the reliance you place onto them, per se. I use Eclipse a lot for my Java programming, can I use C and OpenGL with that? Lastly, do you think it would be more beneficial staying on Windows and programming in C/OpenGL on their, I do like Linux, but I found Visual Studio to be pretty good in some aspects?

• "Unverifiable code failed policy check" for a closed source assembly

  I'm attempting to dynamically load some (purchased) assemblies from resource streams in a C# program during an MSI installation routine, but I'm getting "Unverifiable code failed policy check". I read some tips online about compiling the embedded assembly with /clr:safe, but I don't have that option. Is there a way to work around this policy check? Thanks.
