• Which should I use for mouse over tooltip for image (alt, longdesc, title)

  Currently, my webpage images use the alt attribute only. Users complain that their IE8 cannot show the "tooltip" bubble when they mouse over the image. On Microsoft's What's New in Internet Explorer 8 page, it says The alt attribute is no longer displayed as the image tooltip when the browser is running in IE8 Standards mode. Instead, the target of the longDesc attribute is used as the tooltip if present; otherwise, the title is displayed. The alt attribute is still used as the Microsoft Active Accessibility name, and the title attribute is used as the fallback name only if alt is not present. I also found that many say title should be used. Which should I use to meet the industrial standard: alt, longdesc or title?

• Uncompiled WCF on IIS7: The type could not be found

  Hello, I've been trying to follow this tutorial for deploying a WCF sample to IIS . I can't get it to work. This is a hosted site, but I do have IIS Manager access to the server. However, in step 2 of the tutorial, I can't "create a new IIS application that is physically located in this application directory". I can't seem to find a menu item, context menu item, or what not to create a new application. I've been right-clicking everywhere like crazy and still can't figure out how to create a new app. I suppose that's probably the root issue, but I tried a few other things (described below) just in case that actually is not the issue. This is "deployed" at http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalcService/Service.svc . The error says: The type 'Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could not be found. I also tried to create a virtual dir (IISHostedCalc) in dotnetpanel that points to IISHostedCalcService . When I navigate to http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalc/Service.svc , then there is a different error: This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. • SharePoint 2010 - Access denied during ApplyWebConfigModifications()

  I have SharePoint 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine which is also hosting SQL Sever 2008 R2. I am attempting to deploy a solution that includes web parts in the 2010 environment that is working fine in MOSS 2007. The Web Part feature has a feature receiver that updates the web.config. When I try to activate the feature through the Site Collection Feature GUI, I receive an access denied message. I am logged on to the server and in SharePoint with the APP Pool account which is also a member of the domain administrator group, local administrator group and SharePoint Farm Admin group. This account is also dbo on SQL Server. This same feature activates fine using the stsadm command. I have dug into this issue at length and here is what I have found: Looking at the Microsoft assemblies in reflector, my error is coming from the SPWebApplication.ApplyWebConfigModifications() method. I can see the trace statements from SPWebConfigFileChanges.RemoveModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument and SPWebConfigFileChanges.ApplyModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument. The next line is a Save(str). • SignalR cannot read property client of undefined

  I'm trying to add SignalR to my project (ASPNET MVC 4). But I can't make it work. In the below image you can see the error I'm receiving. I've read a lot of stackoverflow posts but none of them is resolving my issue. Should I make any change because the scripts are in /Script/lib folder? NOTE I'm following the instruction found here on how to set up Windsor Castle to make it work with SignalR, and again, seems that the proxy cannot be created and I'm getting the same error: Cannot read property client of undefined meaning that the proxy to the hub was not created This is how I have it in the server public class IncidentServerHub : Hub and like this in the client var clientServerHub = $.connection.incidentServerHub; Again, I can see the dynamically created file here: /GdpSoftware.Server.Web/signalr/hubs So, Why the proxy is not created? • How to intercept raw soap request/response (data) from WCF client

  This question seems to be pretty close to what I am looking for - I was able to setup tracing and I am looking at the log entries for my calls to the service. However I need to see the raw soap request with the data I am sending to the service and I see no way of doing that from the SvcTraceViewer (only log entries are shown but no data sent to the service) - am I just missing configuration? Interestingly enough, if I click on View Applications, it seems like the virtual directory is an application (see image below)... although, as per the error message above, it doesn't work. • VS2010 Assembly Load Error

  I am getting the following error when I try to build an ASP.NET 4 project in Visual Studio 2010: "Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Dev\project\trunk\bin\Elmah.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)". I have verified that the dll does, in fact, exist, and is getting copied to the bin folder correctly. I have also tried removing and then re-adding the reference to the project. The build only fails when I switch the Solution Configuration to "Release". It does not fail when the Solution Configuration is set to "Debug". I don't want to depend on Application Name then how do I check if MySQL driver & MySQL ADO .NET. Does detection become simple if they are .NET assemblies? How to do then? I don't want to ship the assemblies with my deployed files.

• "type" Command Not Working As Expected on Git Bash

  The type command, in Linux, returns the location, on the filesystem, of the given file, if it is in the current folder or the $PATH. This functionality is also available through Windows with the Git Bash command line program. The command also returns a file's location given the file without its extension (.exe, .vbs, etc.) However, I have run into what seems like a strange corner case where the file exists on the $PATH but doesn't get returned using the command. I am thinking of buying a new computer soon, so I looked up the method of transferring the license key from one computer to another, in preparation for actually doing this. The method I found mentioned the files slmgr.vbs and slui.exe, both of which reside in the C:/Windows\System32 folder, which is in my $PATH, as usual for a Windows computer. However, these two files aren't showing up when I use the type command. Also, neither gets executed when I call the files as commands without their extensions in Git Bash, and only slmgr.vbs gets executed when I call them with the extensions. Finally, slmgr.vbs is shown when listing the folder's contents in Git Bash, as well, but slui.exe isn't. I thought this might have to do with permissions, and, indeed, both files have very restrictive permissions, as you can see in the pictures below, but they both have the same permissions, which wouldn't explain why one gets executed and the other doesn't when called directly, nor why one file is listed on command line but the other isn't. • More outlook VSTO help...

  I posted an article here (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1095195/how-do-i-set-permissions-on-my-vsto-outlook-add-in) and I was able to build my installer. I thought that once the installer built itself, everything would work fine. I was wrong. It works on about half of the PC's I've run the installer on. My problem is that the other half doesn't work. I'm trying to install an add-in to Outlook Office 2003. I've even gone so far as to create the steps manually by using a batch file. Nothing seems to work on these PCs and I can't find a common denominator that I can rule out or in that will make the VSTO Addin work. Here is the batch file I am using.   My Query I want to extract only images from a PDF document, using Objective-C in an iPhone Application. My Efforts I have gone through the info on this link, which has details regarding different operators on PDF documents. I also studied this document from Apple about PDF parsing with Quartz. I also went through the entire PDF reference document from the Adobe site. • Dynamic Scoped Resources in WPF/XAML?

  I have 2 Xaml files, one containing a DataTemplate which has a resource definition for an Image brush, and the other containing a content control which presents this DataTemplate. The data template is bound to a view model class. Everything seems to work EXCEPT the ImageBrush resource, which just shows up white... Any ideas? • Project Euler: Programmatic Optimization for Problem 7?

  So I would call myself a fairly novice programmer as I focused mostly on hardware in my schooling and not a lot of Computer Science courses. So I solved Problem 7 of Project Euler: By listing the first six prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13, we can see that the 6th prime is 13. What is the 10001st prime number? I managed to solve this without problem in Java, but when I ran my solution it took 8 and change seconds to run. I was wondering how this could be optimized from a programming standpoint, not a mathematical standpoint. Is the array looping and while statements the main things eating up processing time? And how could this be optimized? Again not looking for a fancy mathematical equation..there are plenty of those in the solution thread.   I have written a feature(Site scoped) that adds custom menu items to the New Menu and EditControlBlock of document library. These menu items should show up only when the user has add and edit permissions for that document library. If he selected the menu, url is redirected to my webpart. Webpart is deployed in site collection. To do this i have two way. I mentioned in as case 1 & case 2. • What's a good Java-based Master-Slave communication mechanism?

  I'm creating a Java application that requires master-slave communication between JVMs, possibly residing on the same physical machine. There will be a "master" server running inside a JEE application server (i.e. JBoss) that will have "slave" clients connect to it and dynamically register itself for communication (that is the master will not know the IP addresses/ports of the slaves so cannot be configured in advance). The master server acts as a controller that will dole work out to the slaves and the slaves will periodically respond with notifications, so there would be bi-directional communication. I was originally thinking of RPC-based systems where each side would be a server, but it could get complicated, so I'd prefer a mechanism where there's an open socket and they talk back and forth. I'm looking for a communication mechanism that would be low-latency where the messages would be mostly primitive types, so no serious serialization is necessary. Here's what I've looked at: RMI JMS: Built-in to Java, the "slave" clients would connect to the existing ConnectionFactory in the application server. JAX-WS/RS: Both master and slave would be servers exposing an RPC interface for bi-directional communication. JGroups/Hazelcast: Use shared distributed data structures to facilitate communication. Memcached/MongoDB: Use these as "queues" to facilitate communication, though the clients would have to poll so there would be some latency. Thrift: This does seem to keep a persistent connection, but not sure how to integrate/embed a Thrift server into JBoss WebSocket/Raw Socket: This would work, but require a lot more custom code than I'd like. Is there any technology I'm missing? Edit: Also looked at: JMX: Have the client connect to JBoss' JMX server and receive JMX notifications for bidirectional comms.

• Java/Groovy File IO Replacing an Image File with it's own Contents - Why Does This Work?

  I have some JPG files that need to be replaced at runtime with a JFIF standardized version of themselves (we are using a vendor that gives us JPG that do not have proper headers so they don't work in certain applications)... I am able to create a new file from the existing image, then get a buffered image from that file and write the contents right back into the file without having to delete it and it works... imageSrcFolder.eachFileMatch ( ~/.*\.jpg/, { BufferedImage bi = ImageIO.read( it ) ImageIO.write( bi, "jpg", it ) }); The question I have is why? Why doesn't the file end up doubled in size? Why don't I have to delete it first? Why am I able to take a file object to an existing file and then treat it as if it were a brand new one? It seems that what I consider to be a "file" is not what the File object in java actually is, or else this wouldn't work at all. My code does exactly what I want it to do, but I'm not convinced it always will... it just seems way too easy

  I have a master array of length n of id numbers that apply to other analogous arrays with corresponding data for elements in my simulation that belong to those id numbers (e.g. data[id]). Were I to generate a list of id numbers of length m separately and need the information in the data array for those ids, what is the best method of getting a list of indices idx of the original array of ids in order to extract data[idx]? That is, given: a=numpy.array([1,3,4,5,6]) # master array b=numpy.array([3,4,3,6,4,1,5]) # secondary array I would like to generate idx=numpy.array([1,2,1,4,2,0,3]) The array a is typically in sequential order but it's not a requirement. Also, array b will most definitely have repeats and will not be in any order. • Dynamic Data Extract Tools

  I've been searching around for a few weeks now for a tool that either is fully built or a direction of something I could build for dynamically extracting data via a web interface. Basically, what I'm looking for is a way to give users a list of all available data objects from our database and then let them pick ones from the list they'd like to view and set parameters then export the results to an excel file. Right now we're doing it purely with SQL statements but we have hundreds of objects so as you might imagine, those statements are really complex and prone to errors. It would be great if there was a tool available to do this or if someone had an idea of an easy way to organize this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've looked at BI tools like QlikView and Tableau but that is probably overkill for what we're trying to do. The open-source BI tools we've looked at seemed really primitive in their functionality. The other thing we looked at was MSAS (our DB is SQL Server) but I'd prefer something that was more database-agnostic and lived on a web server instead of on the database.
