  • problems with infinite loop

    - by Tom
    function addAds($n) { for ($i=0;$i<=$n;$i++) { while($row=mysql_fetch_array(mysql_query("SELECT * FROM users"))) { $aut[]=$row['name']; } $author=$aut[rand(0,mysql_num_rows(mysql_query("SELECT * FROM users")))]; $name="pavadinimas".rand(0,3600); $rnd=rand(0,1); if($rnd==0) { $type="siulo"; } else { $type="iesko"; } $text="tekstas".md5("tekstas".rand(0,8000)); $time=time()-rand(3600,86400); $catid=rand(1,9); switch ($catid) { case 1: $subid=rand(1,8); break; case 2: $subid=rand(9,16); break; case 3: $subid=rand(17,24); break; case 4: $subid=rand(25,32); break; case 5: $subid=rand(33,41); break; case 6: $subid=rand(42,49); break; case 7: $subid=rand(50,56); break; case 8: $subid=rand(57,64); break; case 9: $subid=rand(65,70); break; } mysql_query("INSERT INTO advert(author,name,type,text,time,catid,subid) VALUES('$author','$name','$type','$text','$time','$catid','$subid')") or die(mysql_error()); } echo "$n adverts successfully added."; } The problem with this function, is that it never loads. As I noticed, my while loop causes it. If i comment it, everything is ok. It has to get random user from my db and set it to variable $author.

  • List of resources for database continuous integration

    - by David Atkinson
    Because there is so little information on database continuous integration out in the wild, I've taken it upon myself to aggregate as much as possible and post the links to this blog. Because it's my area of expertise, this will focus on SQL Server and Red Gate tooling, although I am keen to include any quality articles that discuss the topic in general terms. • Very slow guards in my monadic random implementation (haskell)

    - by danpriduha
    Hi! I was tried to write one random number generator implementation, based on number class. I also add there Monad and MonadPlus instance. What mean "MonadPlus" and why I add this instance? Because of I want to use guards like here: -- test.hs -- import RandomMonad import Control.Monad import System.Random x = Rand (randomR (1 ::Integer, 3)) ::Rand StdGen Integer y = do a <-x guard (a /=2) guard (a /=1) return a here comes RandomMonad.hs file contents: -- RandomMonad.hs -- module RandomMonad where import Control.Monad import System.Random import Data.List data RandomGen g => Rand g a = Rand (g ->(a,g)) | RandZero instance (Show g, RandomGen g) => Monad (Rand g) where return x = Rand (\g ->(x,g)) (RandZero)>>= _ = RandZero (Rand argTransformer)>>=(parametricRandom) = Rand funTransformer where funTransformer g | isZero x = funTransformer g1 | otherwise = (getRandom x g1,getGen x g1) where x = parametricRandom val (val,g1) = argTransformer g isZero RandZero = True isZero _ = False instance (Show g, RandomGen g) => MonadPlus (Rand g) where mzero = RandZero RandZero `mplus` x = x x `mplus` RandZero = x x `mplus` y = x getRandom :: RandomGen g => Rand g a ->g ->a getRandom (Rand f) g = (fst (f g)) getGen :: RandomGen g => Rand g a ->g -> g getGen (Rand f) g = snd (f g) when I run ghci interpreter, and give following command getRandom y (mkStdGen 2000000000) I can see memory overflow on my computer (1G). It's not expected, and if I delete one guard, it works very fast. Why in this case it works too slow? What I do wrong?

  • Explaining Asteroids Movement code

    - by Moaz ELdeen
    I'm writing an Asteroids Atari clone, and I want to figure out how the AI for the asteroids is done. I have came across that piece of code, but I can't get what it does 100% if ((float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX < 0.5) { m_Pos.x = -app::getWindowWidth() / 2; if ((float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX < 0.5) m_Pos.x = app::getWindowWidth() / 2; m_Pos.y = (int) ((float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX * app::getWindowWidth()); } else { m_Pos.x = (int) ((float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX * app::getWindowWidth()); m_Pos.y = -app::getWindowHeight() / 2; if (rand() < 0.5) m_Pos.y = app::getWindowHeight() / 2; } m_Vel.x = (float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX * 2; if ((float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX < 0.5) { m_Vel.x = -m_Vel.x; } m_Vel.y =(float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX * 2; if ((float)rand()/(float)RAND_MAX < 0.5) m_Vel.y = -m_Vel.y;

  • is there a such thing as a randomly accessible pseudo-random number generator? (preferably open-sour

    - by lucid
    first off, is there a such thing as a random access random number generator, where you could not only sequentially generate random numbers as we're all used to, assuming rand100() always generates a value from 0-100: for (int i=0;i<5;i++) print rand100() output: 14 75 36 22 67 but also randomly access any random value like: rand100(0) would output 14 as long as you didn't change the seed rand100(3) would always output 22 rand100(4) would always output 67 and so on... I've actually found an open-source generator algorithm that does this, but you cannot change the seed. I know that pseudorandomness is a complex field; I wouldn't know how to alter it to add that functionality. Is there a seedable random access random number generator, preferably open source? or is there a better term for this I can google for more information? if not, part 2 of my question would be, is there any reliably random open source conventional seedable pseudorandom number generator so I could port it to multiple platforms/languages while retaining a consistent sequence of values for each platform for any given seed?

  • Why might this work on my server but not my schools?

    - by Doug
    I created a captcha just now, and it works PERFECTLY on my own server. On the school's server, it doesn't generate an image. Why might this be? The difference in code is one line. *Edit:*Originally, it was working, but I deleted the directory by mistake and I do not know why did it suddenly work in the first place. Source code on school server: <?php session_save_path("/ichanged/this/path/for/this/post/"); session_start(); $img=imagecreatefromjpeg("bg.jpg"); if( empty($_SESSION['captcha_numbers']) ) { $captcha_numbers = 'error'; } else { $captcha_numbers = $_SESSION['captcha_numbers']; } $image_numbers=$captcha_numbers; $red=rand(100,150); $green=rand(100,255); $blue=rand(100,255); $color=imagecolorallocate($img,255-$red,255-$green,255-$blue); $text=imagettftext($img,12,rand(-7,7),rand(10,20),rand(20,30),$color,"fonts/M04.TTF",$image_numbers); header("Content-type:image/jpeg"); header("Content-Disposition:inline ; filename=secure.jpg"); imagejpeg($img); ?> Source code on my server: <?php session_start(); $img=imagecreatefromjpeg("bg.jpg"); if( empty($_SESSION['captcha_numbers']) ) { $captcha_numbers = 'error'; } else { $captcha_numbers = $_SESSION['captcha_numbers']; } $image_numbers=$captcha_numbers; $red=rand(100,150); $green=rand(100,255); $blue=rand(100,255); $color=imagecolorallocate($img,255-$red,255-$green,255-$blue); $text=imagettftext($img,12,rand(-7,7),rand(10,20),rand(20,30),$color,"fonts/M04.TTF",$image_numbers); header("Content-type:image/jpeg"); header("Content-Disposition:inline ; filename=secure.jpg"); imagejpeg($img); ?>

  • Stack Overflow Error

    - by dylanisawesome1
    I recently created a recursive cave algorithm, and would like to have more extensive caves, but get a stack overflow after re-cursing a couple times. Any advice? Here's my code: for(int i=0;i<100;i++) { int rand = new Random().nextInt(100); if(rand<=20) { if(curtile.bounds.y-40>500+new Random().nextInt(20)) digDirection(Direction.UP); } if(rand<=40 && rand>20) { if(curtile.bounds.y+40<m.height) digDirection(Direction.DOWN); } if(rand<=60 && rand>40) { if(curtile.bounds.x-40>0) digDirection(Direction.LEFT); } if(rand<=80 && rand>60) { if(curtile.bounds.x+40<m.width) digDirection(Direction.RIGHT); } } } public void digDirection(Direction d) { if(new Random().nextInt(100)<=10) { new Miner(curtile, map); // try { // Thread.sleep(2); // } catch (InterruptedException e) { // // TODO Auto-generated catch block // e.printStackTrace(); // } //Tried this to avoid stack overflow. Didn't work. }

  • Mutation Problem - Clojure

    having trouble changing an element of my function represented as a list. code for random function: (defn makerandomtree-10 [pc maxdepth maxwidth fpx ppx] (if-let [output (if (and (< (rand) fpx) (> maxdepth 0)) (let [head (nth operations (rand-int (count operations))) children (doall (loop[function (list) width maxwidth] (if (pos? width) (recur (concat function (list (makerandomtree-10 pc (dec maxdepth) (+ 2 (rand-int (- maxwidth 1))) fpx ppx))) (dec width)) function)))] (concat (list head) children)) (if (and (< (rand) ppx) (>= pc 0)) (nth parameters (rand-int (count parameters))) (rand-int 100)))] output )) I will provide also a mutation function, which is still not good enough. I need to be able to eval my statement, so the following is still insufficient. (defn mutate-5 "chooses a node changes that" [function pc maxwidth pchange] (if (< (rand) pchange) (let [output (makerandomtree-10 pc 3 maxwidth 0.5 0.6)] (if (seq? output) output (list output))) ;mutate the children of root ;declare an empty accumulator list, with root as its head (let [head (list (first function)) children (loop [acc(list) walker (next function)] (println "----------") (println walker) (println "-----ACC-----") (println acc) (if (not walker) acc (if (or (seq? (first function)) (contains? (set operations) (first function))) (recur (concat acc (mutate-5 walker pc maxwidth pchange)) (next walker)) (if (< (rand) pchange) (if (some (set parameters) walker) (recur (concat acc (list (nth parameters (rand-int (count parameters))))) (if (seq? walker) (next walker) nil)) (recur (concat acc (list (rand-int 100))) (if (seq? walker) (next walker) nil))) (recur acc (if (seq? walker) (next walker) nil)))) ))] (concat head (list children))))) (side note: do you have any links/books for learning clojure?)

  • PHP, MySQL - would results-array shuffle be quicker than "select... order by rand()"?

    - by sombe
    I've been reading a lot about the disadvantages of using "order by rand" so I don't need update on that. I was thinking, since I only need a limited amount of rows retrieved from the db to be randomized, maybe I should do: $r = $db->query("select * from table limit 500"); for($i;$i<500;$i++) $arr[$i]=mysqli_fetch_assoc($r); shuffle($arr); (i know this only randomizes the 500 first rows, be it). would that be faster than $r = $db->("select * from table order by rand() limit 500"); let me just mention, say the db tables were packed with more than...10,000 rows. why don't you do it yourself?!? - well, i have, but i'm looking for your experienced opinion. thanks!

But what if i was to setup a passwordless auth? I have tried pasting his key in /var/chroot-home/david/.ssh/authorized_keys but no use, tried ssh'ing as david to the box and it just stops at "debug1: Sending env LC_CTYPE = C" after i supply it password and there is nothing shown in auth.log, may be because it can't find the homedir. If i do "su - david" as root i see "No directory, logging in with HOME=/" which makes sense. Symlink doesn't help either. I have also tried with: Match group clients ChrootDirectory /var/chroot-home/%u X11Forwarding no AllowTcpForwarding no ForceCommand internal-sftp a dummy user root:~# tail -n1 /etc/passwd david:x:1000:1001::/var/chroot-home/david:/bin/sh This way if i don't change /var/chroot-home/david to root:root sshd complains about bad ownership or permission modes, and if i do, david can no longer upload/delete anything directly in his home while using sftp from filezilla.

  • Adding objects to the environment at timed intervals

    - by david
    I am using an ArrayList to handle objects and at each interval of 120 frames, I am adding a new object of the same type at a random location along the z-axis of 60. The problem is, it doesn't add just 1. It depends on how many are in the list. If I kill the Fox before the time interval when one is supposed to spawn comes, then no Fox will be spawned. If I don't kill any foxes, it grows exponentially. I only want one Fox to be added every 120 frames. This problem never happened before when I created new ones and added them to the environment. Any insights? Here is my code: /**** FOX CLASS ****/ import env3d.EnvObject; import java.util.ArrayList; public class Fox extends Creature { private int frame = 0; public Fox(double x, double y, double z) { super(x, y, z); // Must use the mutator as the fields have private access // in the parent class setTexture("models/fox/fox.png"); setModel("models/fox/fox.obj"); setScale(1.4); } public void move(ArrayList<Creature> creatures, ArrayList<Creature> dead_creatures, ArrayList<Creature> new_creatures) { frame++; setX(getX()-0.2); setRotateY(270); if (frame > 120) { Fox f = new Fox(60, 1, (int)(Math.random()*28)+1); new_creatures.add(f); frame = 0; } for (Creature c : creatures) { if (this.distance(c) < this.getScale()+c.getScale() && c instanceof Tux) { dead_creatures.add(c); } } for (Creature c : creatures) { if (c.getX() < 1 && c instanceof Fox) { dead_creatures.add(c); } } } } import env3d.Env; import java.util.ArrayList; import org.lwjgl.input.Keyboard; /** * A predator and prey simulation. • JSF - Random Number using Beans (JAVA)

    - by Alex Encore Tr
    I am trying to create a jsf application which, upon page refresh increments the hit counter and generates two random numbers. What should be displayed on the window may look something like this: On your On your roll x you have thrown x and x For this program I decided to create two Beans, one to hold the page refresh counter and one to generate a random number. Those look like this for the moment: CounterBean.java package diceroll; public class CounterBean { int count=0; public CounterBean() { } public void setCount(int count) { this.count=count; } public int getCount() { count++; return count; } } RandomNumberBean.java package diceroll; import java.util.Random; public class RandomNumberBean { int rand=0; Random r = new Random(); public RandomNumberBean() { rand = r.nextInt(6); } public void setNextInt(int rand) { this.rand=rand; } public int getNextInt() { return rand; } } I have then created an index.jsp to display the above message. <html> <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%> <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%> <f:view> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"> <title>Roll the Dice</title> </head> <body> <h:form> <p> On your roll # <h:outputText value="#{CounterBean.count} " /> you have thrown <h:outputText value="#{RandomNumberBean.rand}" />and <h:outputText value="#{RandomNumberBean.rand} " /> </p> </h:form> </body> </f:view> </html> However, when I run the application, I get the following message: org.apache.jasper.el.JspPropertyNotFoundException: /index.jsp(14,20) '#{RandomNumberBean.rand}' Property 'rand' not found on type diceroll.RandomNumberBean Caused by: org.apache.jasper.el.JspPropertyNotFoundException - /index.jsp(14,20) '#{RandomNumberBean.rand}' Property 'rand' not found on type diceroll.RandomNumberBean I suppose there's a mistake with my faces-config.xml file, so I will post this here as well, see if somebody can provide some help: faces-config.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <faces-config xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-facesconfig_2_0.xsd" version="2.0"> <managed-bean> <managed-bean-name>CounterBean</managed-bean-name> <managed-bean-class>diceroll.CounterBean</managed-bean-class> <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope> </managed-bean> <managed-bean> <managed-bean-name>RandomNumberBean</managed-bean-name> <managed-bean-class>diceroll.RandomNumberBean</managed-bean-class> <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope> </managed-bean> </faces-config>

  • Random generates same number in java

    - by user1613360
    This is my java code. import java.io.*; import java.util.*; import java.util.concurrent.TimeUnit; class search { private int numelem; private int[] input=new int[100]; public void setNumofelem() { System.out.println("Enter the total numebr of elements"); Scanner yz=new Scanner(System.in); numelem=yz.nextInt(); } public void randomnumber() throws Exception { int max=500,min=1,n=numelem; Random rand = new Random(); for (int j=0;j < n;j++) { input[j]=rand.nextInt(max)+1; } } public void printinput() { int b=numelem,t=0; while(true) if(b!=0) { System.out.print(" "+input[t]); b--; t++; } else break; } } public class mycode { public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception { search a=new search(); a.setNumofelem(); a.randomnumber(); a.printinput(); } } Now the function randomnumber() just returns the same number.The function executes perfectly if I execute it as a separate java program but fails miserably if I call it using an object.I have also tried the following variations but nothing works everything return the same number. Variation 1: public void randomnumber() throws Exception { int max=500,min=1,n=numelem; Random rand = new Random(); for (int j=0;j < n;j++) { TimeUnit.SECONDS.sleep(1); input[j]=rand.nextInt(max)+1; } } Variation 2: public void randomnumber() throws Exception { int max=500,min=1,n=numelem; Random rand = new Random(); for (int j=0;j < n;j++) { rand.setSeed(System.nanoTime()); input[j]=rand.nextInt(max)+1; } } Variation 3: public void randomnumber() throws Exception { int max=500,min=1,n=numelem; Random rand = new Random(); for (int j=0;j < n;j++) { TimeUnit.SECONDS.sleep(1); rand.setSeed(System.nanoTime()); input[j]=rand.nextInt(max)+1; } } Sample input/Output: Enter the number of elements: 5 23 23 23 23 23 23

  • Haskell and random numbers

    - by John D.
    Hi, I've been messing with Haskell few days and stumbled into a problem. I need a method that returns a random list of integers ( Rand [[Int]] ). So, I defined a type: type Rand a = StdGen -> (a, StdGen). I was able to produce Rand IO Integer and Rand [IO Integer] ( (returnR lst) :: StdGen -> ([IO Integer], StdGen) ) somehow. Any tips how to produce Rand [[Int]]?

  • illigal start of type error (java).

    - by David
    here is the relevent code snippet: public static Rand searchCount (int[] x) { int a ; int b ; int c ; int d ; int f ; int g ; int h ; int i ; int j ; Rand countA = new Rand () ; for (int l= 0; l<x.length; l++) { if (x[l] = 0) a++ ; else if (x[l] = 1) b++ ; } } return countA ; } (Rand is the name of the class that this method is in) when compiling it get this error message: Rand.java:77: illegal start of type return countA ; ^ what's going wrong here? what does this error message mean?

  • Where is the rand php function located? localhost php running, path of default functions?

    - by Bona Chon
    I have a local server installed on my Mac (MAMP). My question is, where I can find the php functions in my computer? What is the path to the functions folder? For instance, rand() time() isset() explode(). I would like to se the code to learn of it. I have a while looking for it, but I can't find it. Or is it that is already compiled? Can someone help me here? I'm kind of lost. Thanks people. EDIT: can you be a little bit more positive? I;m trying to learn here, forgive me if I'm not to smart for you. Thanks again. Explanations would help better than giving links I guess?

  • trouble with algorithm

    - by rebel_UA
    David likes number of estimates with base "k" and not a multiple(a%2!=0) of the number of zeros at the end. Set system and the number of the order and print it I need to optimi this algoritm: class David{ private: int k; public: David(); David(int); int operator[] (int); }; David::David(){ k=10; }; David::David(int k){ this->k=k; } int David::operator[] (int n){ int q; int p; int i=1; for(int r=0;r<n;i++){ q=0; p=i; for(;;){ if(p%k) break; if(p==0) break; ++q; p/=k; } if(q%2){ r++; } } return i-1; }

  • Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

    - by sscirrus
    I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!
