  • How do I write recursive anonymous functions?

    - by James T Kirk
    In my continued effort to learn scala, I'm working through 'Scala by example' by Odersky and on the chapter on first class functions, the section on anonymous function avoids a situation of recursive anonymous function. I have a solution that seems to work. I'm curious if there is a better answer out there. From the pdf: Code to showcase higher order functions def sum(f: Int => Int, a: Int, b: Int): Int = if (a > b) 0 else f(a) + sum(f, a + 1, b) def id(x: Int): Int = x def square(x: Int): Int = x * x def powerOfTwo(x: Int): Int = if (x == 0) 1 else 2 * powerOfTwo(x-1) def sumInts(a: Int, b: Int): Int = sum(id, a, b) def sumSquares(a: Int, b: Int): Int = sum(square, a, b) def sumPowersOfTwo(a: Int, b: Int): Int = sum(powerOfTwo, a, b) scala> sumPowersOfTwo(2,3) res0: Int = 12 from the pdf: Code to showcase anonymous functions def sum(f: Int => Int, a: Int, b: Int): Int = if (a > b) 0 else f(a) + sum(f, a + 1, b) def sumInts(a: Int, b: Int): Int = sum((x: Int) => x, a, b) def sumSquares(a: Int, b: Int): Int = sum((x: Int) => x * x, a, b) // no sumPowersOfTwo My code: def sumPowersOfTwo(a: Int, b: Int): Int = sum((x: Int) => { def f(y:Int):Int = if (y==0) 1 else 2 * f(y-1); f(x) }, a, b) scala> sumPowersOfTwo(2,3) res0: Int = 12

  • Fortran 90 How to call a function in a subroutine in a module?

    - by Feynman
I have a module that "contains" a subroutine that "contains" a function. I say "use themodule" in my main program and I can "call thesubroutine", but how to I get the function that is "contained" in the subroutine? The code looks like this: module useful integer, parameter :: N=2 double precision, parameter :: xmin=1, xmax=10, pi=3.1415926535898 double complex :: green(N,N), solution(N), k=(2.0,0.0) contains subroutine y(n1) contains function x(n1) real :: n1, x x=n1*(xmax-xmin)/N end function x end subroutine y end module useful

  • Mathematica: get number of arguments passed to a function?

    - by dbjohn
How do I get the number of arguments passed to a function, such as Plus[2,3,4,5] has 4 arguments passed to it. I was thinking it may involve the use of the function Length and getting the arguments into a list. The intention is to iterate an operation based on the number of arguments for a function. There is probably a simple solution or function but I haven't come across it yet. Any other ways or suggestions are welcome as well?

  • Declare Ajax-webservicecall OnSuccess method anonymous.

    - by user333113
I write a lot of ajax javascript code and have a little design problem which I'm not totally satisfied with. A lot of times I end up with writing something like this: var typeOfPopup; function RetrievePopupContent(_typeOfPopup) { switch (_typeOfPopup) { case Popup1: WebService.RetrievePopup1Content(param1, param2, DisplayPopup, OnError); break; case Popup2: WebService.RetrievePopup2Content(param1, param2, DisplayPopup, OnError); break; } typeOfPopup = _typeOfPopup; } function DisplayPopup(result) { switch (typeOfPopup) { case Popup1: $get('Popup1').innerHTML = result; break; case Popup2: $get('Popup2').innerHTML = result; break; } Allright. This is a simplified example of what I mean. Often I end up with a lot worse code I believe. What I don't like is the global state variabel outside the functions. One solution I wasn't thinking about when writing this code is to send a context object. I believe you could write something like this: function RetrievePopupContent(typeOfPopup) { switch (typeOfPopup) { case Popup1: WebService.RetrievePopup1Content(param1, param2, DisplayPopup, OnError, typeOfPopup); break; case Popup2: WebService.RetrievePopup2Content(param1, param2, DisplayPopup, OnError, typeOfPopup); break; } } function DisplayPopup(result, typeOfPopup) { switch (typeOfPopup) { case Popup1: $get('Popup1').innerHTML = result; break; case Popup2: $get('Popup2').innerHTML = result; break; } Is this the recommended way? What I also want to do is to be able to write something like this: function RetrievePopupContent(typeOfPopup) { switch (typeOfPopup) { case Popup1: WebService.RetrievePopup1Content(param1, param2, new function(result) { $get('Popup1').innerHTML = result; }, OnError); break; case Popup2: WebService.RetrievePopup2Content(param1, param2, new function(result) { $get('Popup2').innerHTML = result; }, OnError); break; } } Is this possible at all? To declare the callback function anonymous? I am grateful for all opinions on the two options I mentioned myself and also new alternatives to get rid of my global variables I have used this way.

  • Staying anonymous while hosting your site?

    - by jamesCroft
I don't mean anonymous surfing. I mean hosting and having your own domain and such. The reason is that my blog is about religious/political topics which may cause me trouble in the future. This is the domain I am working on: www.james-croft.com I know that using Whois search my name can come up: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/james-croft.com The solution to that, as far as I understood, is to buy a privacy package from the domain registrar. in my case it is lucky register: http://i.stack.imgur.com/uvOdc.png Also hosting is a concern. I use the same hosting service for multiple websites. My question is this: Can my hosting be tracked and be used to identify me? Also: Are there other methods of finding out my identity from either Google Adsense or Amazon affiliate programs? I couldn't find any relevant articles online. If there is anything else that is relevant, please let me know. I appreciate any response.

  • SQL SERVER – 2012 – Summary of All the Analytic Functions – MSDN and SQLAuthority

    - by pinaldave
SQL Server 2012 (RC0 Available here) has introduced new analytic functions. These functions were long awaited and I am glad that they are here. Previously when any of this function was needed people use to write long T-SQL code to simulate that and now no need of the same. Having available native function also helps performance as well readability. In last few days I have written many articles on this subject on my blog. The goal was make these complex analytic functions easy to understand and make it widely accepted. As this new functions are available and as awareness spreads we should start using the new functions. Here is the quick list of the new function and relevant MSDN site. Function SQLAuthority MSDN CUME_DIST CUME_DIST CUME_DIST FIRST_VALUE FIRST_VALUE FIRST_VALUE LAST_VALUE LAST_VALUE LAST_VALUE LEAD LEAD LEAD LAG LAG LAG PERCENTILE_CONT PERCENTILE_CONT PERCENTILE_CONT PERCENTILE_DISC PERCENTILE_DISC PERCENTILE_DISC PERCENT_RANK PERCENT_RANK PERCENT_RANK I also enjoyed three different puzzles during the course of this series which gave clear idea to the SQL Server 2012 analytic functions. SQL SERVER – Puzzle to Win Print Book – Functions FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE with OVER clause and ORDER BY SQL SERVER – Puzzle to Win Print Book – Write T-SQL Self Join Without Using LEAD and LAG SQL SERVER – Puzzle to Win Print Book – Explain Value of PERCENTILE_CONT() Using Simple Example This series will be always my dear series as during this series I had went through very unique experience of my book going out of stock and becoming available after 48 hours. • SQL SERVER – Introduction to CUME_DIST – Analytic Functions Introduced in SQL Server 2012

    - by pinaldave
This blog post is written in response to the T-SQL Tuesday post of Prox ‘n’ Funx. This is a very interesting subject. By the way Brad Schulz is my favorite guy when it is about blogging. I respect him as well learn a lot from him. Everybody is writing something new his subject, I decided to start SQL Server 2012 analytic functions series. SQL Server 2012 introduces new analytical function CUME_DIST(). This function provides cumulative distribution value. It will be very difficult to explain this in words so I will attempt small example to explain you this function. Instead of creating new table, I will be using AdventureWorks sample database as most of the developer uses that for experiment. Let us fun following query. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT SalesOrderID, OrderQty, CUME_DIST() OVER(ORDER BY SalesOrderID) AS CDist FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY CDist DESC GO Above query will give us following result. Now let us understand what is the formula behind CUME_DIST and why the values in SalesOrderID = 43670 are 1. Let us take more example and be clear about why the values in SalesOrderID = 43667 are 0.5. Now let us enhence the same example and use PARTITION BY into the OVER clause and see the results. Run following query in SQL Server 2012. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT SalesOrderID, OrderQty, ProductID, CUME_DIST() OVER(PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY ProductID ) AS CDist FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID DESC, CDist DESC GO Now let us see the result of this query. We are have changed the ORDER BY clause as well partitioning by SalesOrderID. You can see that CUME_DIST() function provides us different results. Additionally now we see value 1 multiple times. As we are using partitioning for each group of SalesOrderID we get the CUME_DIST() value. CUME_DIST() was long awaited Analytical function and I am glad to see it in SQL Server 2012. • “NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON” error in Windows 7 (ASP.NET & Web Service)

    - by Tony_Henrich
I have an asp.net web app which works fine in Windows XP machine in a domain. I am porting it to a Windows 7 stand alone machine. The app uses a web service which makes a call to sql server. The web server (IIS 7.5) and SQL Server are on the same stand alone machine. I enabled Windows authentication for the website and web service. The web service uses a trusted connection connection string. The web service credentials uses System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials. I noticed username, password and domainname are blank after the call! The webservice and web site use the 'Classic .NET AppPool' with NetworkServices identity. I am getting an exception "NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON" in the database call in the web service. I am assuming it's related to the blank credentials. I am expecting ASPNET user to be the security token to the database. Why is this not happening? Did I miss a setting? (Usually this happens when sql server and web server are on two different machines in a domain, delegation & double hopping, but in my case everything is on a dev box)

  • Ugly thing and advantage of anonymos method -C#

    - by nettguy
I was asked to explain the ugly thing and advantages of anonymous method. I explained possibly Ugly thing anonymous methods turning quickly into spaghetti code. Advantages We can produce thread safe code using anonymous method :Example static List<string> Names = new List<string>( new string[] { "Jon Skeet", "Marc Gravell", "David", "Bill Gates" }); static List<string> FindNamesStartingWith(string startingText) { return Names.FindAll( delegate(string name) { return name.StartsWith(startingText); }); } But really i did not know whether it is thread safe or not.I was asked to justify it. Can any one help me to understand (1) advantages of anonymous methods (2) Is the above code thread safe or not?

  • Have loaded a php variable into flash but cant apply it in a function...

    - by Paul Elliot
hi I have created an actionscript function which stops an animation on a specific frame which works fine. I have then loaded in a php file with a variable which will contain the number for the frame i want the animation to stop on. This has loaded in fine and i have loaded it in a function. what i cant seem to do is to get the variable into the function which tells the animation to stop playing. here is my code: //load variables varReceiver = new LoadVars(); // create an object to store the variables varReceiver.load("http://playground.nsdesign6.net/percentage/external.php"); //load variables //function1 varReceiver.onLoad = function() { //value is the var that is created. var paul = this.percentage; } //function1 //function2 this.onEnterFrame = function() { if(this._currentframe==(percentage)) { this.stop(); this.onEnterFrame = undefined; } } play(); //function2 cheers paul

  • Delay function from running for n seconds then run it once. (2minute question)

    - by Ozaki
TLDR I have a function that runs on the end of a pan in an openlayers map. Don't want it to fire continously. I have a function that runs on the end of panning a map. I want it so that it will not fire the function until say 3 secconds after the pan has finished. Although I don't want to queue up the function to fire 10 or so times like setTimeout is currently doing. How can I delay a function from running for n seconds then run it only once no matter how many times it has been called?

  • When to alter a function vs when to just write a new one...?

    - by Andrew Heath
/is n00b Through the gift of knowledge and expertise encoded here, I am doing my best to avoid n00b mistakes as I learn the basics of programming. I use functions when I (think I) can in PHP, and keep them somewhat sorted in different includes. The n00b problem I'm running into now is situations where perhaps 4/5th of an existing function is relevant to a new need. Maybe there are a slightly different set of inputs, or an additional calculation or two in the series, or output needs a different format/structure... but the core of the function is still applicable. Is there a good rule of thumb regarding when one should bolt-on crap to an original function and when one should (literally) copy & paste most of it into a new function and tweak to fit the situation? On the one hand I feel bad duping code, on the other I feel bad cluttering up an existing function with stuff not always needed...

  • How to execute a function called many times, only once !

    - by Roesone
Hello, is there a way to execute a function that is called thousand of times only once ? I have a function that adds items in a container of sort, and there is code in there, that updates lists and other windows (GUI staff). So, if i have to add a million items (the number of which is impossible to tell, anyone could call the function from anywhere), the GUI update mechanism will be called as many as times... Is there a way to tell appart continuous function execution (and ignore it) from discontinuous ? Is there a safe way to execute the update mechanism only the last time the add-item function is called, within a time interval ? Thank you.

  • What could cause a returning function to crash? C++

    - by JeanOTF
So I have been debugging this error for hours now. I writing a program using Ogre3d relevant only because it doesn't load symbols so it doesn't let me stack trace which made finding the location of the crash even harder. So, write before I call a specific function I print out "Starting" then I call the function and immediately after I print "Stopping". Throughout the function I print out letters A-F where F is printed right before the function returns (one line above the last '}') The weird thing is when the crash occurs it is after the 'F' is printed but there is no 'Stopping'. Does this mean that the crash is happening in between somewhere? The only thing I can think of is something going wrong during the deallocation of some of the memory allocated during the function. I've never had anything happen like this, I will keep checking to make sure it's going wrong where I think it is.

  • How to pass multiple params to function in python?

    - by user1322731
I am implementing 8bit adder in python. Here is the adder function definition: def add8(a0,a1,a2,a3,a4,a5,a6,a7,b0,b1,b2,b3,b4,b5,b6,b7,c0): All function parameters are boolean. I have implemented function that converts int into binary: def intTObin8(num): bits = [False]*8 i = 7 while num >= 1: if num % 2 == 1: bits[i] = True else: bits[i] = False i = i - 1 num /= 2 print bits return [bits[x] for x in range(0,8)] I want this function to return 8 bits. And to use this two functions as follows: add8(intTObin8(1),intTObin8(1),0) So the question is: How to pass 8 parameters using one function?

  • In PHP: How to call a $variable inside one function that was defined previously inside another funct

    - by Sam
I'm just starting with Object Oriented PHP and I have the following issue: I have a class that contains a function that contains a certain script. I need to call a variable located in that script within another function further down the same class. For example: class helloWorld { function sayHello() { echo "Hello"; $var = "World"; } function sayWorld() { echo $var; } } in the above example I want to call $var which is a variable that was defined inside a previous function. This doesn't work though, so how can I do this?

  • Bad performance function in PHP. With large files memory blows up! How can I refactor?

    - by André
Hi I have a function that strips out lines from files. I'm handling with large files(more than 100Mb). I have the PHP Memory with 256MB but the function that handles with the strip out of lines blows up with a 100MB CSV File. What the function must do is this: Originally I have the CSV like: Copyright (c) 2007 MaxMind LLC. All Rights Reserved. locId,country, region, city, postalCode, latitude, longitude, metroCode, areaCode 1,"O1","","","",0.0000,0.0000,, 2,"AP","","","",35.0000,105.0000,, 3,"EU","","","",47.0000,8.0000,, 4,"AD","","","",42.5000,1.5000,, 5,"AE","","","",24.0000,54.0000,, 6,"AF","","","",33.0000,65.0000,, 7,"AG","","","",17.0500,-61.8000,, 8,"AI","","","",18.2500,-63.1667,, 9,"AL","","","",41.0000,20.0000,, When I pass the CSV file to this function I got: locId,country, region, city, postalCode, latitude, longitude, metroCode, areaCode 1,"O1","","","",0.0000,0.0000,, 2,"AP","","","",35.0000,105.0000,, 3,"EU","","","",47.0000,8.0000,, 4,"AD","","","",42.5000,1.5000,, 5,"AE","","","",24.0000,54.0000,, 6,"AF","","","",33.0000,65.0000,, 7,"AG","","","",17.0500,-61.8000,, 8,"AI","","","",18.2500,-63.1667,, 9,"AL","","","",41.0000,20.0000,, It only strips out the first line, nothing more. The problem is the performance of this function with large files, it blows up the memory. The function is: public function deleteLine($line_no, $csvFileName) { // this function strips a specific line from a file // if a line is stripped, functions returns True else false // // e.g. // deleteLine(-1, xyz.csv); // strip last line // deleteLine(1, xyz.csv); // strip first line // Assigna o nome do ficheiro $filename = $csvFileName; $strip_return=FALSE; $data=file($filename); $pipe=fopen($filename,'w'); $size=count($data); if($line_no==-1) $skip=$size-1; else $skip=$line_no-1; for($line=0;$line<$size;$line++) if($line!=$skip) fputs($pipe,$data[$line]); else $strip_return=TRUE; return $strip_return; } It is possible to refactor this function to not blow up with the 256MB PHP Memory? Give me some clues. Best Regards,

  • Extreme Optimization – Curves (Function Mapping) Part 1

    - by JoshReuben
    Overview ·        a curve is a functional map relationship between two factors (i.e. a function - However, the word function is a reserved word). ·        You can use the EO API to create common types of functions, find zeroes and calculate derivatives - currently supports constants, lines, quadratic curves, polynomials and Chebyshev approximations. ·        A function basis is a set of functions that can be combined to form a particular class of functions.   The Curve class ·        the abstract base class from which all other curve classes are derived – it provides the following methods: ·        ValueAt(Double) - evaluates the curve at a specific point. ·        SlopeAt(Double) - evaluates the derivative ·        Integral(Double, Double) - evaluates the definite integral over a specified interval. ·        TangentAt(Double) - returns a Line curve that is the tangent to the curve at a specific point. ·        FindRoots() - attempts to find all the roots or zeroes of the curve. ·        A particular type of curve is defined by a Parameters property, of type ParameterCollection   The GeneralCurve class ·        defines a curve whose value and, optionally, derivative and integrals, are calculated using arbitrary methods. A general curve has no parameters. ·        Constructor params:  RealFunction delegates – 1 for the function, and optionally another 2 for the derivative and integral ·        If no derivative  or integral function is supplied, they are calculated via the NumericalDifferentiation  and AdaptiveIntegrator classes in the Extreme.Mathematics.Calculus namespace. // the function is 1/(1+x^2) private double f(double x) {     return 1 / (1 + x*x); }   // Its derivative is -2x/(1+x^2)^2 private double df(double x) {     double y = 1 + x*x;     return -2*x* / (y*y); }   // The integral of f is Arctan(x), which is available from the Math class. var c1 = new GeneralCurve (new RealFunction(f), new RealFunction(df), new RealFunction(System.Math.Atan)); // Find the tangent to this curve at x=1 (the Line class is derived from Curve) Line l1 = c1.TangentAt(1);

  • Powershell: Install-dotNET4 function

    - by marc dekeyser
    This function will download and install ,NET 4.0. It uses the Get-Framework-Versions function to determine if the installation is necessary or not. Internet Connectivity will be required as the script auto downloads the setup file (and sleeps for 360 seconds... I had a function in there to monitor for install completion at first, turns out the setup file spawns so many childprocesses the function just got confused and locked up -_-)Alternatively you could drop the installation file in the folder specified on the $folderPath variable too. That will skip the download and use the file. This function easily adapts in to other versions f.e. I use it for Powershell 3 installs as well!Function install-dotNet4 () {    if(($InstalledDotNET -eq "4.0") -or ($InstalledDotNET -eq "4.0c")){        write-host ".NET 4.0 Framework is already installed" -foregroundcolor Green    } else{            #set a var for the folder you are looking for        $folderPath = 'C:\Temp'        #Check if folder exists, if not, create it        if (Test-Path $folderpath){            Write-Host "The folder $folderPath exists." -ForeGroundColor Green        } else{            Write-Host "The folder $folderPath does not exist, creating..." -NoNewline -ForegroundColor Red            New-Item $folderpath -type directory | Out-Null            Write-Host " - done!" -ForegroundColor Green        }        # Check if file exists, if not, download it        $file = $folderPath+"\dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe"        if (Test-Path $file){            write-host "The file $file exists." -ForeGroundColor Green        } else {            #Download Microsoft .Net 4.0 Framework            Write-Host "Downloading Microsoft .Net 4.0 Framework..." -nonewline -ForeGroundColor DarkYellow            $clnt = New-Object System.Net.WebClient            $url = "http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/5/A/95A9616B-7A37-4AF6-BC36-D6EA96C8DAAE/dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe"            $clnt.DownloadFile($url,$file)            Write-Host " - done!" -ForegroundColor Green        }        #Install Microsoft .Net Framework        Write-Host "Installing Microsoft .Net Framework..." -nonewline -ForegroundColor DarkYellow        $dotNET4 = $folderPath+"\dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe /quiet /norestart"        Invoke-Expression $dotNET4        write-host " - done!" -ForegroundColor Green        start-sleep -seconds 360    }}

  • Should you always pass the bare minimum data needed into a function

    - by Anders Holmström
Let's say I have a function IsAdmin that checks whether a user is an admin. Let's also say that the admin checking is done by matching user id, name and password against some sort of rule (not important). In my head there are then two possible function signatures for this: public bool IsAdmin(User user); public bool IsAdmin(int id, string name, string password); I most often go for the second type of signature, thinking that: The function signature gives the reader a lot more info The logic contained inside the function doesn't have to know about the User class It usually results in slightly less code inside the function However I sometimes question this approach, and also realize that at some point it would become unwieldy. If for example a function would map between ten different object fields into a resulting bool I would obviously send in the entire object. But apart from a stark example like that I can't see a reason to pass in the actual object. I would appreciate any arguments for either style, as well as any general observations you might offer. I program in both object oriented and functional styles, so the question should be seen as regarding any and all idioms.

  • Naming the implementation version of an interface function

    - by bolov
When I need to write an implementation version of an interface function, I put the implementation function within a impl namespace, but with the same name as the interface function. Is this a bad practice? (the same name part, the namespace part I am confident it’s more than OK). For me, who I write the code, there is no confusion between the two, but I want to make sure this isn’t confusing for someone else. One other option would be to append impl suffix to the function name, but since it is already in a separate namespace named impl it seems redundant. Is there an idiomatic way to do this? E.g.: namespace n { namespace impl { // implementation function (hidden from users) // same name, is it ok? void foo() { // ... //sometimes it needs to call recursively or to call overloads of the interface version: foo(); // calls the implementation version. Is this confusing? n::foo(); // calls the interface version. Is this confusing? // ... } // namespace impl // interface function (exposed to users) void foo() { impl::foo(); } } // namespace n

  • Which is faster for large "for" loop: function call or inline coding?

    - by zaplec
Hi, I have programmed an embedded software (using C of course) and now I'm considering ways to improve the running time of the system. The most important single module in my system is one very large nested for loop module. That module consists of two nested for loops that loops max 122500 times. That's not very much yet, but the problem is that inside that nested for loop I have a function call to a function that is in another source file. That specific function consists mostly of two another nested for loops which loops always 22500 times. So now I have to make a function call 122500 times. I have made that function that is to be called a lot lighter and shorter (yet still works as it should) and now I started to think that would it be faster to rip off that function call and write that process directly inside those first two for loops? The processor in that system is ARM7TDMI and its frequency is 55MHz. The system itself isn't very time critical so it doesn't have to be real time capable. However the faster it can process its duties the better. Also would it be also faster to use while loops instead of fors? And any piece of advice about how to improve the running time is appreciated. -zaplec

  • JavaScript: Can I declare a variable by querying which function is called? (Newbie)

    - by belle3WA
I'm working with an existing JavaScript-powered cart module that I am trying to modify. I do not know JS and for various reasons need to work with what is already in place. The text that appears for my quantity box is defined within an existing function: function writeitems() { var i; for (i=0; i<items.length; i++) { var item=items[i]; var placeholder=document.getElementById("itembuttons" + i); var s="<p>"; // options, if any if (item.options) { s=s+"<select id='options"+i+"'>"; var j; for (j=0; j<item.options.length; j++) { s=s+"<option value='"+item.options[j].name+"'>"+item.options[j].name+"</option>"; } s=s+"</select>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;"; } // add to cart s=s+method+"Quantity: <input id='quantity"+i+"' value='1' size='3'/> "; s=s+"<input type='submit' value='Add to Cart' onclick='addtocart("+i+"); return false;'/></p>"; } placeholder.innerHTML=s; } refreshcart(false); } I have two different types of quantity input boxes; one (donations) needs to be prefaced with a dollar sign, and one (items) should be blank. I've taken the existing additem function, copied it, and renamed it so that there are two identical functions, one for items and one for donations. The additem function is below: function additem(name, cost, quantityincrement) { if (!quantityincrement) quantityincrement=1; var index=items.length; items[index]=new Object; items[index].name=name; items[index].cost=cost; items[index].quantityincrement=quantityincrement; document.write("<span id='itembuttons" + index + "'></span>"); return index; } Is there a way to declare a global variable based on which function (additem or adddonation) is called so that I can add that into the writeitems function so display or hide the dollar sign as needed? Or is there a better solution? I can't use HTML in the body of the cart page because of the way it is currently coded, so I'm depending on the JS to take care of it. Any help for a newbie is welcome. Thanks!
