  • OutOfMemoryException, stack size is huge, large number of threads

    Hello, I was profiling my .net windows service. I was trying to discover OutOfMemoryException and discovered that my stack size is huge and is growing because the the number of threads keeps growing. Each thread gets 1024 KB on Windows x64 machine. Thus when my app has 754 threads the stack size would be 772 MB. The problem for me is that i don't know where these thread come from. Initially my app has a very limited number of threads and they keep growing with time. I have two suspicions - either these threads are created by WCF or by database connection. My application uses both WCF and datasets. Also I tried to profile my app in Ants do Trace i can see large number of System.ServiceModel.Channels.ClientReliableDuplexSessionChannel and this number is increasing with time. I can see thousands of these objects created. So what I want to know is who is creating threads (tools to discover, profilers) and if it is WCF who is creating these threads.

I mean if I replace 100 by 100000 in my view, how can I see data on my view while my helper method is calculating ? Do I need to use ajax or rails provide a tool for that ? Thank you.

The {{, }}, and (?) do throw me off because { reminds me of formatting, (?) hints at some advanced regex use. Unfortunately I am getting little help from a key person who is on vacation without a leash [smart]phone. I am guessing that I simply add 5 more lines for each additional parameter, and change String.Format("{{call {0}(?)}}", spName) to String.Format("{{call {0}(?,?,?)}}", spName). I forgot to mention that I am coding this "blindly" - I have a compiler to help me, but no environment set up to test this.     I have an array of objects. The objects have a property called level that is a string which contains a number and is in consistent format. I am trying to find the highest number and return just that one but I seem to be blocked as far as how to proceed from my current code.     This is more of a theoretical question than an actual problem I have. If I understand correctly, the sequence number in the TCP header of a packet is the index of the first byte in the packet in the whole stream, correct? If that is the case, since the sequence number is an unsigned 32-bit integer, then what happens after more than FFFFFFFF = 4294967295 bytes are transferred? Will the sequence number wrap around, or will the sender send a SYN packet to restart at 0?

    I am running a Ruby on Rails app on a virtual Linux server that is capped at 1GB RAM. Currently, I am constantly hitting the limit and would like to optimize memory utilization. One option I am looking at is reducing the number of unicorn workers. So what is the best way to determine the number of unicorn workers to use? The current setting is 10 workers, but the maximum number of requests per second I have seen on Google Analytics Real-Time is 3 (only scored once at a peak time; in 99% of the time not going above 1 request per second). So is it a save assumption that I can - for now - go with 4 workers, leaving room for unexpected amounts of requests? What are the metrics I should have a look at for determining the number of workers and what are the tools I can use for that on my Ubuntu machine?

    I initially assumed that since tcp has a sequence number field of 32 bits and each byte sent on a tcp connection is labeled with a unique number, maximum number of bytes that can be sent on a tcp connection is about 2^32-1 or 2^32-2 (which?). but now I feel that since TCP is a sliding window protocol, the wraparound of sequence numbers during the connection should not have an affect on the maximum number of bytes that can be sent over a tcp connection as long as the when wraparound occurs the old packet is no longer in the network (it is sent after 2*MSL). What is the correct answer?

    Hi, Is there a way to bind the hudson successful build's number in the C# WPF application? Meaning, on running the exe after building I want to show the build number say 10 in my application somewhere. In project configuration file, I have used ${BUILD_NUMBER}, that a hudson understands and creates a build with the revision number. If I build the Project revision # 10, I get 10.exe.
