Hi everybody!
Is it possible (in XAML) to hide the headers of the tab items in a tab control in Silverlight (preferably Silverlight 4)?
Thanks in advance
I need to display favicon.ico files fetched from arbitrary Web Sites as a BitmapImage in a Silverlight 3 application but Silverlight 3's BitmapImage only supports PNG and JPG. Any suggestions?
In 2008 Artur Carvalho asked for an Alternative IDE for Silverlight and was told to look at Visual Studio Express.
Is that still the valid answer in 2010 or are there other IDEs one should consider (cost/ OS it runs on / stability)?
I'm trying to get a feel for silverlight development before commiting cash. So I don't need enterprize level tools or a license to distribute ..
I've found a few questions about infinite scrolling already posted, but none were about Silverlight, so I thought I'd ask. I've done some initial searching, but haven't been able to find any reference material on how to implement infinite scrolling in Silverlight. This is more of a brain-storming exercise so I can get some thoughts on different ways to implement this.
Hi,
Can webservices be accessed by Silverlight 3? On VisualStudio, a Silverlight project doesn't allow me to add a "web reference" but only a "web service reference" that is for WCF and not "normal" webservices.
Any help?
Thanks
i'm interested in picking up silverlight as another tool to use when appropriate, and i'm looking to get some suggestions on the best way to get started.
i have visual studio 2010, and can purchase expression blend if necessary (is it out of beta?), though i haven't quite been able to grasp the relationship between them.
are there any good books, tutorials, blogs etc that i should use to familiarize myself with silverlight 4?
I’m looking for Silverlight component libraries (preferably commercial). So far I’ve found these:
ComponentOne
Telerik
DevExpress
Vectorlight
Infragistics
Xceed
Am I missing any?
I previously posted this question, I’m (still) searching for a Silverlight Image Editor. As part of my exploration I have to document that I at least checked "all the major vendors".
I was wondering if there are any features in Silverlight 2 or 3 that aren't documented or are hidden very deep in the framework? Stuff that can be very helpful in some cases, but can be a pain to find. Are there any "hidden" gems?
I'm thinking about stuff you normaly don't find in tutorials and in demos. For example, finding information about the operating system the Silverlight Application is running on thru the System.OperatingSystem class.
I need to display the image at start and end of the text in silverlight.
For e.g. The text should be
" welcome to silverlight " . The code in this text should be image and it was coming from database
Any help please. Thanks in advance.
I have a Silverlight 3 project in VS2008. Today, for whatever reason, I get an error when compiling.
Configuration system failed to initialize
It reports the error on Line 1, Column 1 for every .xaml file in the project.
I did a repair on VS2008, reinstalled all the Silverlight 3 bits (e.g. SDK, VS2008 tools and the Controls Toolkit), but the problem still persists.
Am I missing something simple?
When I try to run a Silverlight project in Visual Studios 2008 I get this error all of a sudden:
Unable to start debugging. The Silverlight managed debugging package isn’t installed.
What have I done wrong?
Hi,
I am working on a Silverlight 3.0 application
I have added a reference to the System.Xml.linq dll. I can also can see it in the references folder of my Silverlight app. however when I try to use it [using System.Xml.linq] it says are you missing an assembly reference!
I am stumped! Please help
Hello - I have been stuck on this all weekend and failed miserably!
Please help me to claw back my sanity!!
Your challenge
For my first Silverlight application I thought it would be fun to use the World of Warcraft armoury to list the characters in my guild. This involves making an asyncronous from Silverlight (duh!) to the WoW armoury which is XML based. SIMPLE EH?
Take a look at this link and open the source. You'll see what I mean:
http://eu.wowarmory.com/guild-info.xml?r=Eonar&n=Gifted and Talented
Below is code for getting the XML (the call to ShowGuildies will cope with the returned XML - I have tested this locally and I know it works).
I have not managed to get the expected returned XML at all.
Notes:
If the browser is capable of transforming the XML it will do so, otherwise HTML will be provided. I think it examines the UserAgent
I am a seasoned asp.net web developer C# so go easy if you start talking about native to Windows Forms / WPF
I can't seem to set the UserAgent setting in .net 4.0 - doesn't seem to be a property off the HttpWebRequest object for some reason - i think it used to be available.
Silverlight4.0 (created as 3.0 originally before I updated my installation of Silverlight to 4.0)
Created using C# 4.0
Please explain as if you talking to a web developer and not a proper programming lol!
Below is the code - it should return the XML from the wow armoury.
private void button7_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
// URL for armoury lookup
string url = @"http://eu.wowarmory.com/guild-info.xml?r=Eonar&n=Gifted and Talented";
// Create the web request
HttpWebRequest httpWebRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
// Set the user agent so we are returned XML and not HTML
//httpWebRequest.Headers["User-Agent"] = "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0)";
// Not sure about this dispatcher thing - it's late so i have started to guess.
Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(delegate()
{
// Call asyncronously
IAsyncResult asyncResult = httpWebRequest.BeginGetResponse(ReqCallback, httpWebRequest);
// End the response and use the result
using (HttpWebResponse httpWebResponse = (HttpWebResponse)httpWebRequest.EndGetResponse(asyncResult))
{
// Load an XML document from a stream
XDocument x = XDocument.Load(httpWebResponse.GetResponseStream());
// Basic function that will use LINQ to XML to get the list of characters.
ShowGuildies(x);
}
});
}
private void ReqCallback(IAsyncResult asynchronousResult)
{
// Not sure what to do here - maybe update the interface?
}
Really hope someone out there can help me!
Thanks mucho!
Dan.
PS Yes, I have noticed the irony in the name of the guild :)
Hi, I'm using hessian protocol for communication betwee server (java) and various client applications. Now I started to develop Windows Phone 7 client. I downloaded hessian C# implementation but it does not compile for windows phone 7/silverlight.
Does anyone managed to make it work on WP7/Silverlight? It's looks like there is many thing to be done/changed to make it work, which I'd like to avoid if it has been done by someone already.
Thanks.
I need to create a ASp.net website with silverlight controls.
I am having only express editions of 2008 (Web developer edition and C# express editions).
I have created the WPF application sing C# expression and create the new XAML files.
Then I have created asp.net website in web developer edition and linked the xaml files with the .
But nothing works.
Note: I have not silverlight application project types and templates in Visual Studio 2008 web developer edition.
Is it possible to get the currently logged in user's username with Silverlight? You can assume that user has Windows OS and the Silverlight application is hosted in Internet Explorer. Getting the identity from server side with ASP.NET is not an option, this SL application will be hosted on a static HTML file.
Edit-And-Continue is one of my favorite debugging tools which I have previously used on C# based Winforms and ASP.NET projects. However, I'm running a Silverlight 3.0 application on VS 2008 and whenever I try to make a change (after breaking) it says "Changes are not allowed when debugging Silverlight applications". Also there isn't an "Enable Edit and Continue" option in the project settings.
Does anyone (possibly an insider) know when this feature will be supported by Microsoft???
(I NEED IT!)
I was playing with new Silverlight4 and to my surprise when I run my sample application in OOB all animations become very jerky when I move mouse around during animations, but when I run my app in browser animations are smooth even when moving mouse around.
I tried my app on two different computers, turned on GPU acceleration in OOB settings - and got the same jerky result.
Is this a know problem with Silverlight?
I am working on a Silverlight project that uses Django on the server using piston for the REST API. I understand that Silverlight doesn't support the PUT and DELETE http verbs. Is there another way i can pass these kinds of commands to piston?
Hi,

Is there any way to modify an html page hosting a Silverlight page using the embedded Silverlight application? I already know how to access existing html elements, but I'm not sure how to add and remove elements dynamically. Thanks in advance.
I want to write a silverlight page which connects to a tcp/ip server. The server is layering ssl as well. The problem is I don't see a SSLStream in Silverlight.
Is this doable (I need the tcp/ip because this page will constantly get events from the server and no I don't want to poll, in fact I can't the server is third party)
Thanks
I was just wondering about the opinions out there. What do you think promotes faster development times for a web application? Silverlight or .Net MVC?
And could Silverlight be a replacement for a true http web application?
Feel free to rant or give as much details as necessary.
Hi there
I have a silverlight application in vs2010 and iam using silverlight4.0. I have to show a videoppt in which a video is synchronised with images and it runs as a video powerpoint presentation. Is it possible to preload the images or cache them, so that they get rendered as soon as the video starts. If there is a way out, plz guide me.
