  • Mapkit: Only show annotations in current view

    Instead of loading all annotations that are in my array, I would only like to load the annotations that the user could currently see cased on how far they are zoomed in on the map. So, if the user pans to a place where there are annotations, those would be added, and if they pan away, those would be removed. I assume this would help with memory. Does anyone know how to do something like this? And, is it worth it, or needed?

I want a JS implementation on mobile devices but I don't want to load up 9KB of local memory or use server-side GA. I'm primarily interested only in tracking page views and uniques.     Hello, My application gets configured via a lot of key/values (let's say 30.000 for instance) I want to find the best deployment method for these configurations, knowing that I want to avoid DEFINEs to allow for runtime re-configuration. I have thought of - pre-compiling them into an array via a php file - pre-compiling them into a tmpfs sqlite database - pre-compiling them into a memcached db what are my options for the best random access time to these configuration (memory is not an issue) ?   • Differnce between linux write and sendfile syscall

    Hi Im programming webserver (C), which should send big files. My question is: What are the main differneces in two syscalls: write and sendfile. Does sendfile depends on size of socket system buffer ? I noticed that write often writes less then i requested. For example, if got many requests for one file: should i open it, copy into memory and use 'write', or maybe i can do 'sendfile' for each client ? thx in advance for all answers

  • Benefit of using multiple SIMD instruction sets simultaneously

    I'm writing a highly parallel application that's multithreaded. I've already got an SSE accelerated thread class written. If I were to write an MMX accelerated thread class, then run both at the same time (one SSE thread and one MMX thread per core) would the performance improve noticeably? I would think that this setup would help hide memory latency, but I'd like to be sure before I start pouring time into it.

    Unlike Java, Perl uses reference count for garbage collection. I have tried searching some previous questions which speak about C++ RAII and smart pointers and Java GC but have not understood how Perl deals with the circular referencing problem. Can anyone explain how Perl's garbage collector deals with circular references? Is there any way to reclaim circular referenced memory which are no longer used by the program or does Perl just ignores this problem altogether?

    Suppose I have code that maintains parent/children structure. In such a structure I get circular references, where child points to parent and parent points to child. Should I worry about them?     Hi all, Is it possible to simulate a USB drive with software only? I mean, for example, to expose a local memory space to the OS so the device manager will recognize it as a USB device. I'm not familiar with hardware implementation, but I'm sure that it is possible somehow to emulate the USB protocol. I began with this book - USB Design By Example.   • Caveats of select/poll vs. epoll reactors in Twisted

    Everything I've read and experienced ( Tornado based apps ) leads me to believe that ePoll is a natural replacement for Select and Poll based networking, especially with Twisted. Which makes me paranoid, its pretty rare for a better technique or methodology not to come with a price. Reading a couple dozen comparisons between epoll and alternatives shows that epoll is clearly the champion for speed and scalability, specifically that it scales in a linear fashion which is fantastic. That said, what about processor and memory utilization, is epoll still the champ?

  • Lazy load pages in UIScrollView

    I have a UIScrollView that contains large images and am using paging to scroll between images. In order to save memory, I am loading only one image before and after the currently visible one and loading/releasing new images after a scroll has completed. The problem occurs when one scrolls quickly and scrollViewDidEndDecelerating is not called. How can I detect continuous scrolling? I could check item location on every scrollViewDidScroll but this seems a bit heavy...

The view isn't huge but it has a few other UIImageViews as subviews and it might be related to memory, but I can't find anything on this message. Any ideas?

    Hello Everyone Yesterday I installed the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Server 2003 which has Unicenter Software Delivery 4 installed. Prior to the installation I disabled every CA service on the server (Brightstor, SDO , RCO, TNG) and the MS SQL 2000 service. After the installation of the SP2 I enabled the services again but the Unicenter Service is not able to connect to the MS SQL 2000 Database anymore. The database itself is up and running and I can connect to it with the Enterprise Manager. A dbcc checkdb doesnt return any errors on the Unicenter database.   • Difference between the List and Enumeration

    I have a written a method to get all the records and return in the List Type, but I got out of memory error. So I changed return type from List to Enumeration, in the method, instead of ArrayList, uses Vector and return vector.elements at the end of the method. It works without any error. but I did not understand why. Could someone explain Why this Enumeration worked?

  • Does Marshal.ReleaseComObject call the garbage collector ?

    Hi, I was asked this question today by a colleague, and couldn't find any clue on the Internet... Can someone tell me if calling Marshall.ReleaseComObject()directly calls the garbage collector ? As I understand it, it only removes COM references, and then the G.C. cleans memory on its next pass, but I can be mistaken... Thanks in advance for your help!

  • iPhone app stopped building crash reports

    My app formerly created useful crash logs. I synced my iPhone in the past and found crash logs in library/logs/CrashReporter About a month ago, my app stopped creating crash reports. When I first discovered this problem, I assumed it was due to memory corruption (a possibility in my app). I just created a new project and added a crash to it. // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, // typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array removeObjectAtIndex:-1]; [super viewDidLoad]; } This app does not create a crash report either. Ideas I've started to explore: My phone is corrupted (tried restoring - somehow I brought it to the state from a few months ago) My XCode is corrupt (tried reinstalling, but current download demands Snow Leopard - and I can't upgrade to Snow Leopard online). This seems possible - I may have messed with device support around a month ago (similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1224867/does-iphone-os-3-0-1-ruin-your-development-phone ) The location for crash logs has somehow moved. Suggestions?
