• Alter text field focus order with jQuery

  Hi, I was wondering, if I have text fields displayed so, could I alter the order in which the focus using javascript (preferably jQuery). See this example here. What I mean that when you tab around them, instead on going "one, two, three, four, five" force them to go: "one, two, four, three, five". Thanks in advance!! • How could I make the SurfaceView and Button have a different orientation in a Activity

  I hava a simple program about video recording . I use the surfaceView to show the preview screen. and I also want to put some buttons on the screen. I put all the component mentioned above into a XML file which is "ipcam.xml" I use MediaRecorder , SurfaceView , SurfaceHolder to complete this program because the preview screen does not orientate correctly when I rotate my phone. so I use "setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE);" but , the button in the program is always in LANDSCAPE direction . it will not auto change direction when I rotate my phone , but the preview is ok!! so is there anyway to solve this problem. • How to download files directly to disk on the iPhone os?

  Hi, I would like to download files directly from an URL to the disk using objective-c on the iPhone os. Currently I am using NSURLConnection to send a synchronousRequest, writing the returned NSData into a file. How can I change the download handling (still having the request beeing synchronous, it is already in a background thread) to write the data directly to disk, not using memory variables to store the complete content (only small parts)? A sample code would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance for your responses!

• Retrieving values from Env in mod_esi or webtools

  A complete noob question, but how exactly do I get values (e.g. path_info) from inside the callback? From the docs, I thought it was a list of tuples, which I thought would make it accessible via lists:keyfind, but I've had no luck. So far, all the examples I've found only show how to print everything with io_lib but not how to access the values by key... • Does MultiThreading in Java takes much time for task completion?

  I have to search for a string in 10 large size files (in zip format 70 MB) and have to print the lines with the search string to corresponding 10 output files.(i.e. file 1 output should be in output_file1...file2--- output_file2). The same program takes 15 mins for a single file. But if use 10 threads to read 10 files and to write in 10 different files it should complete in 15 mins but its taking 40 mins. How can I solve this. Or multithreading will take this much time only?

• Why do most Database developers hate Agile

  To me "Agile" methodology is a common-sense oriented approach and one that should likely be adopted for most software projects. I find that while a lot of Middle Tier Developers and Front End developers find it a very sensible project delivery model, plenty of Database developers (and good ones) seem to be totally against it. They are very keen on knowing the biggest picture and designing a database solution that will cater to that. They do not seem to like "Vertical striping" of a functionality. They would rather see the complete design document/feature document instead of concentrating on small user stories. Sarcasm aside, can someone realistically provide some insight as to why this mentality is prevalent? Especially DB devs? What would be a convincing argument against that?

  My project is converting a legacy fat-client desktop application into the web. The database is not changing as a result. Consequently, we are being forced to call external web services to access data in our own database. Couple this with the fact that some parts of our application are allowed to access the database directly through DAOs (a practice that is much faster and easier). The functionality we're supposed to call web services for are what has been deemed necessary for downstream, dependent systems. Is this really how SOA is supposed to work? Admittedly, this is my first foray into the SOA world, but I have to think this is the complete wrong way to go about this.

• iPhone simulator app crashes when appending a string

  Hi, I'm a complete novice, so I'm probably missing something really easy, but I can't get my string appending to work. I add the 3rd character to typedDigit & it crashes - the method is called fine and typedDigit will get to 2 characters long. I think everything is declared properly in the header file. • Visual Studio (2005 & 2008) Compile Completed Alert?

  Does anyone know of any kind of plugin or alert system which will let me know when my compiles are completed? Some of the solutions I work with are gigantic and sometimes the compiles can take 5-20 minutes (depending on the PC). Thus I would like to do something else in the meantime, but I don't want to keep checking back to see if the compile is done. Is there any way to have a windows alert, or flash the screen when the compile is done? It would let me browse the internet whilst waiting for the compile to finish without worrying that its been complete and I'm just wasting time.

• Fastest way to find sum of digits on big numbers

  I have some big numbers (again) and i need to find if the sum of the digits is an even number. I tried this: finding the sum of the digits with a while loop and then checking if that sum % 2 equals 0 and it's working but it's too slow for big numbers, because i am given intervals of numbers and if the input is 1999999 19999999999 then my program fails, i cannot complete within the time limit which is 0,1 sec. What to do ? Is there any other faster way to do this ? EDIT: The input 1999999 19999999999 means it will start with 1999999 and check all the numbers like i wrote above until 19999999999, and because we are talking about big numbers (< 2^30) my program is not worthy.

  Hi everyone, After debugging a codeigniter app that were installed into a new development environment, I have started to freak out when seeing white screens with nothing more available. I have been able to solve each and every one of the errors that have caused this, but it have taken seriously way too long time. PHP error_reporting(E_ALL) & display_errors", 1 is set as well. I even installed Xdebug in hope of getting more output, but no. My logging settings are also working, but nothing is written to the log. Is there a way to get something informative printed out instead of a complete white screen? It would certainly shorten my time spent on solving the eventual errors that causes this? Thanks a lot! • bash find xargs grep only single occurence

  hi. maybe it's a bit strange - and maybe there are other tools to do this but, well.. i am using the following classic bash command to find all files which contain some string: find . -type f | xargs grep "something" i have a great number of files, on multiple depths. first occurence of "something" is enough for me, but find continues searching, and takes a long time to complete the rest of the files. what i would like to do is something like a "feedback" from grep back to find so that find could stop searching for more files. is such a thing possible? thank you

  I have a table in SQL Server listing corporate departments and their sections and subsections (3 levels). I would like to create some web-based listing of this, but similar to a TreeList. I was thinking to set up nested Ajax Accordions, but it was taking me way too long to put together. I would even settle for a GridView with non-repeating column values. Is there a way I can implement my idea without it taking me more than an hour or so for a newbie to complete? Any controls in ASP.NET or Ajax I can bind to would be great.

  Hello, I am running a jetspeed portal which contains various portlet applications and have come across an issue after a recent reinstall where some of the portlets will return Cannot pass a null PortletDefinition to a PortletEntity Any idea what is causing this issue? I investigated a bit and it seems that jetspeed runs a process when new portlets are added where it creates mappings in its DB (derby in my case). If this does not complete it seems to cause this problem. Is my assumption correct? If yes, how can I restart this process? Many thanks

• In CQRS (event-sourced), do you need a global sequence counter in the event store?

  In trying to get my head around CQRS (and DDD in general) I have come across situations when two events occur on different aggregates but the order of them has domain meaning. If so then they could happen so close together that a timestamp (as used by the sample implementations I have seen) cannot differentiate them, meaning the event store doesn't contain a 'complete' representation of the domain as there is ambiguity over the order in which events occurred. As an example, the domain could fire a CustomerCreatedEvent which applies to the Customer aggregate, and then a CustomerAssignedToAgent event on the Agent aggregate. The CustomerAssignedToAgent event doesn't make sense if it occurs before the CustomerCreatedEvent, but typically both of these might be fired as a result of one operation which makes it likely that the timestamps would effectively be the same. So am I just modelling things badly? Should there ever be a situation where the sequence of events across different aggregates is important? Or should you keep a global sequence number on your event store, so that you can identify the exact sequence in which events occurred?

• Sleep a thread until an event is attended in another thread from a different class

  I have an application that fires 2 threads, the 1st launches another class to do some processing which in turn launches a 3rd class to do yet more processing. The 2nd thread in the main class should wait until some event in the 3rd class completes before it performs its job. How can this be achieved? I had tried implementing a wait/notify to share a lock object between the two threads but technically this will not work as I found the hard way. Can I share a lock between classes? Note, an instance of the 3rd class is declared in the 1st class and passed as parameter to the 2nd class. Also I tried creating boolean value in 3rd class that tells when event is complete then poll 2nd thread till this value is true. This worked but is not very desirable. Also is actionListner a better approach to this problem?

  Now if that isn't a weird question, I don't know what is. But here is the problem: I have a function in my "onSelect" option that has to collect some data (through AJAX) and I have a function in my "onComplete" option that processes the just uploaded files based on the data "onSelect" collected. However, with very small files, the "onSelect" hasn't finished yet before the upload is complete and the "onComplete" fails because it lacks the necessary data. Bigger files work just fine. So, I'm looking for a way to stall the upload of the file. To let it start only after the function in onSelect completed fetching the necessary data. Any ideas? Right now it is in early stage of development and by reflection it generates user interface for creating and updating domain objects. I searched a bit and I didn't find other opensource projects that have the same goal. Why? This type of tool is not useful? Is this idea fundamentally flawed? Thanks.

• How to presist the user authentication in SL3 + RIA

  I am developing SL3 + RIA services with custom authentication. I followed the example in http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/RiaServices/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2661 to implement custom authentication. Based on the implementation, you first do login request from client to service. This request is async process. Since login is async, the control will go back to GUI which then starts to do data bind in SL controls using RIA services, the services happens to requires the authentication to be successful (by adding [RequireAuthentication] attribute). The trouble is, since you requested login might not have completed before the data binding starts t this stage the authentication is false because of that data binding will fail. I would like to know if you require your web services to have 'RequireAuthentication' how would you wait for authentication to complete at the server side or client side. Appriciate the help. • Are C++ Reads and Writes of an int atomic

  I have two threads, one updating an int and one reading it. This value is a statistic where the order of the read and write is irrelevant. My question is, do I need to synchronize access to this multi-byte value anyway? Or, put another way, can part of the write be complete and get interrupted, and then the read happen. For example, think of value = ox0000FFFF increment value to 0x00010000 Is there a time where the value looks like 0x0001FFFF that I should be worried about? Certainly the larger the type, the more possible something like this is I've always synchronized these types of accesses, but was curious what the community thought.
