• Why doesn't IronRuby have the same tools that IronPython does?

  Hi, I've been using Ruby as my main scripting language for years but switched to .NET several years ago. I'd like to continue using Ruby (primarily for testing) BUT the toolset for IronRuby is really nonexistent. Why? In Python, meanwhile, there are project templates and full intellisense support. Why isn't there something like that for IronRuby? The only thing I've been able to find on it is "there are no plans for VS integration at this time." Why???

  I'm looking for some sample database data that I can use for testing and demonstrating a DB tool I am working on. I need a DB that has (preferably) many tables, and many foreign key relationships between the tables. Ideally the data would be in SQL dump format, or at least in something that maintains the foreign key references, and could be easily import into an RDBMS (MySQL or H2). The dataset itself doesn't have to be huge (in fact, best if it's not). I thought about using the Stackoverflow Data Dump, but it's only about 5 tables.

  Hi, Imagine the obvious model of employees and departments, where each employee must refer to a single department, and each department may have none to many employees. For Employee I have a pointer to Department, and I set its value to the address of the object of the relevant Department. When I try to save the Employee I get an error: 2010-04-07 10:05:22.491 CoreData2[1112:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: Department)' I tried, just for testing, to make the reference from Employee to Department optional, but I get the same result. • Install APK on ICS through Eclipse

  I rooted my Incredible and flashed an ICS rom, and I can't seem to install an app through Eclipse for testing (or by manually pushing it through adb). I know I have to change the permissions of /data/local to write and execute others in order to allow APKs to be installed, but when I adb shell into my phone and call chmod o=wx /data/local I get a message saying Bad mode. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks! EDIT: According to this question I need to change the permissions of /data/local in order for this to work; I'm receiving the same errors as the OP of that question.

  Can WWF handle high throughput scenarios where several dozen records are 'actively' being processed in parallel at any one time? We want to build a workflow process which handles a few thousand records per hour. Each record takes up to a minute to process, because it makes external web service calls. We are testing Windows Workflow Foundation to do this. But our demo programs show processing of each record appear to be running in sequence not in parallel, when we use parallel activities to process several records at once within one workflow instance. Should we use multiple workflow instances or parallel activities? Are there any known patterns for high performance WWF processing?

• Two versions of same asp.net app using same server as stateserver - bad?

  We have 2 production web servers for our web app, load balanced to handle lots of traffic. We also have a similar setup for testing. Test pool: [TEST 1]---[TEST 2] Prod pool: [PROD 1]---[PROD 2] When comparing the Web.Config of the app versions (test vs live) I discovered something surprising: both pools have the same value for stateConnectionString. If I understand right, this means they are using the same state server: <sessionState mode="StateServer" stateConnectionString="tcpip=123.123.123.123:42424" cookieless="false" timeout="30"/> Is this a problem? (How does the state server not confuse the two pools)? I was having odd only-sometimes slowdown/errors on the test server, that's why I was looking at this in the first place, but the prod pool runs fine...

I would like to know how can I detect that a server had closed the socket or had crashed in the client side (my android App) I am running on one side my android app, that is connected. On the other side I am running netcat (for testing purpose). I Would like to know what signal is sent to my client socket or what happen when I kill netcat.   I've created a new app but not uploaded a binary (not ready for review yet). However, I want to test in-app purchases. The documentation seems to state that a bundle ID is required to create an in-app purchase product. Is there any way to specify this bundle ID for creating the in-app purchase product on iTunes Connect without uploading the app binary in a way that won't cause problems when the actual binary is uploaded? What if the eventually uploaded binary has a different bundleID than the use created for testing - does it effectively invalidate the in-app purchase product?

I am testing this on a web server. • Watir: Need to double click on an element to open custom popup

  Hello, I am a newbie in WATIR. The problem I am facing is - The application I am testing has thumbnails (like Windows icons) placed on the page and I need to double click it. On doing that, an custom popup (ajax popup implemented in javascript) will open. The fire_event("ondblclick") is not working for me. I also tried 'click' twice but that too is not helping. • Connecting my flex application to Restlet webservices

  Hi, I am doing some trial testing awith Amazon ec2 boxes, deploying flex apps running on top of restlet powered webservices. I have this problem - Everytime i deploy the app to the cloud, I'm having to hardcode the IP address of the server into the ActionScript/MXML files (http://72.93.48.39:8080/xxx/abc/) and for certain reasons, i am forced to choose a different IP everytime. and i think its really not the right way to deploy the application. I would like to know what other people do in such scenarios? On thinking about it, i thought i could make it pickup values from the HTMLVars of the HTML wrapper. but that again has to be edited everytime again and again. will it be possible to be able to supply these values : server's ip address, server's port number(in case its not 8080 on some machine) at build time? if so can anyone give me a barbones sample build.xml just as an example?

  In Visual Studio 2008 (and others) when creating a .NET or silverlight application if you look at your project properties, it seems like you can only have one assembly name - across all configurations. I would like to compile my application as: MyAppDebug - in debug mode and just MyApp - in release mode Does anyone know if this is possible? Edit: It seems some people are questioning the reasoning behind the question, so I'll explain a little further: I'm working on a Silverlight application which gets automatically uploaded to our test site when I to a "build solution". The trouble is, the test team are now testing the online version, whilst I work on a new one. So, I want to have a url like .\MyApp.html for the regular version that the QA team will test and then .\MyApp.html?version=debug for the current version that I'm working on.

• Have the default security settings changed in Windows 7 that would affect IPrincipal.IsInRole?

  We use NTLM auth in our application to determine whether a user can perform certain operations. We use the IPrincipal of their current Windows login (in WinForms applications), calling IsInRole to check for specific group memberships. To check that a user is a local administrator on the machine, we use: AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); ... bool allowed = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.IsInRole(@"Builtin\Administrators") This works if the current user is the Administrator user, or is another user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group. In our testing on Windows 7, we have found that this no longer works as expected. The Administrator user still works fine, but any other user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group returns false for the IsInRole call. What could be causing this difference? I have a gut feeling that a default setting has changed somewhere (possible in gpedit), but cannot find anything that looks like the culprit.

I need to know how to go about testing this with Rhino Mocks e.g. how to instantiate a new ControlMediaElementAction in test code and then call the Invoke method etc. Doing something simple like this in test code: mMediaElementControlBehaviour = new ControlMediaElementAction (); gives me an exception "The type initializer for 'System.Windows.DependencyObject' throw an exception. Thinking it was the instantiation of the MediaElement, I tried this two lines of code: MediaElement mediaElementStub = MockRepository.GenerateStub(); this.Container.RegisterInstance(mediaElementStub); This gave the exception 'Can't create mocks of sealed classes' If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be apreciated.   So according to my testing, If you have something like: Module modA = new AbstractModule() { public void configure() { bind(A.class).to(AImpl.class); bind(C.class).to(ACImpl.class); bind(E.class).to(EImpl.class); } } Module modB = New AbstractModule() { public void configure() { bind(A.class).to(C.class); bind(D.class).to(DImpl.class); } } Guice.createInjector(Modules.overrides(modA, modB)); // gives me binding for A, C, E AND D with A overridden to A->C. But what if you want to remove the binding for E in modB? I can't seem to find a way to do this without having to break the bind for E into a separate module. Is there a way?

• "Access is denied" error on accessing iframe document object

  For posting AJAX forms in a form with many parameters, I am using a solution of creating an iframe, posting the form to it by POST, and then accessing the iframe's content. specifically, I am accessing the content like this: $("some_iframe_id").get(0).contentWindow.document I tested it and it worked. On some of the pages, I started getting an "Access is denied" error. As far as I know, this shouldn't happen if the iframe is served from the same domain. I'm pretty sure it was working before. Anybody have a clue? If I'm not being clear enough: I'm posting to the same domain. So this is not a cross-domain request. I am testing on IE only. P.S. I can't use simple ajax POST queries (don't ask...)
