• Clojure / HBase: How to Import HBaseTestingUtility in v0.94.6.1

  In Clojure, if I want to start a test cluster using the hbase testing utility, I have to annotate my dependencies with: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.92.2" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] First of all, I have no idea what this means. According to leiningens sample project.clj ;; Dependencies are listed as [group-id/name version]; in addition ;; to keywords supported by Pomegranate, you can use :native-prefix ;; to specify a prefix. This prefix is used to extract natives in ;; jars that don't adhere to the default "<os>/<arch>/" layout that ;; Leiningen expects. Question 1: What does that mean? Question 2: If I upgrade the version: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.94.6.1" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] Then I receive a ClassNotFoundException Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.hbase.HBaseConfiguration Whats going on here and how do I fix it?

• Commenting practices?

  Hey Everyone, As a student in computer engineering I have been pressured to type up very detailed comments for everything I do. I can see this being very useful for group projects or in the work place but when you work on your own projects do you spend as much time commenting? As a personal project I am working on grows more and more complicated I sometimes feel as though I should be commenting more but I also feel as though it's a waste of time since I will probably be the only one working on it. Is it worth the time and cluttered code? Thoughts?

• Unescape _xHHHH_ XML escape sequences using Python

  I'm using Python 2.x [not negotiable] to read XML documents [created by others] that allow the content of many elements to contain characters that are not valid XML characters by escaping them using the _xHHHH_ convention e.g. ASCII BEL aka U+0007 is represented by the 7-character sequence u"_x0007_". Neither the functionality that allows representation of any old character in the document nor the manner of escaping is negotiable. I'm parsing the documents using cElementTree or lxml [semi-negotiable]. Here is my best attempt at unescapeing the parser output as efficiently as possible: import re def unescape(s, subber=re.compile(r'_x[0-9A-Fa-f]{4,4}_').sub, repl=lambda mobj: unichr(int(mobj.group(0)[2:6], 16)), ): if "_" in s: return subber(repl, s) return s The above is biassed by observing a very low frequency of "_" in typical text and a better-than-doubling of speed by avoiding the regex apparatus where possible.   I am currently writing my truly first PHP Application and i would like to know how to project/design/implement MySQL Views properly; In my particular case User data is spread across several tables (as a consequence of Database Normalization) and i was thinking to use a View to group data into one large table: CREATE VIEW `Users_Merged` ( name, surname, email, phone, role ) AS ( SELECT name, surname, email, phone, 'Customer' FROM `Customer` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Admin' FROM `Administrator` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Manager' FROM `manager` ); This way i can use the View's data from the PHP app easily but i don't really know how much this can affect performance. For example: SELECT * from `Users_Merged` WHERE role = 'Admin'; Is the right way to filter view's data or should i filter BEFORE creating the view itself? (I need this to have a list of users and the functionality to filter them by role).

  I know this may end up getting closed quickly. I could not find this in my searching through APIs. And this is probably a very simple question but here we go... How do you store data on a google application you create in which you and others in a specific group or more specifically the people who can edit a specific calendar, can reach this data? Person A,B,C have read/write access to a calendar, and lets say they want to co-ordinate information. I want this information to not be accessible to modify by all 3 though it is not stored in a calendar? (Though I thought about just creating an event in 1900 and then that fullfills that, but at the same time is a very hack way to do it) I would appreciate any insight you can give me when it comes to data handling in google applications, I am very new to it, but have been looking into it.

• How to deal with many to many relationships with NSFetchedResultsController?

  OK so I have two entities in my data model (let's say entityA and entityB), both of these entities have a to-many relationship to each other. I have setup a NSFetchedResultsController to fetch a bunch of entityA. Now I'm trying to have the section names for the tableview be the title of entityB. sectionNameKeyPath:@"entityB.title" Now this causes a problem, where by the section name returned from that relationship appears to be ({title1}) or ({title1,title2...titleN}) obviously depending on how many different entityB's are involved. This doesn't look great in a tableview and doesn't group the objects as I would like. What I would like is a section per entityB title with entityA appearing under each section, under multiple sections if necessary. I'm at a loss as how I am supposed to achieve this whether I need to update the predicate to get the entity to appear multiple times or whether I need to update the section and header functions to do some processing as the controller loops through the objects. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks

• C, Linux: Receiving data from multiple multicast address on same port - how to distinguish them?

  2 vote down star I have an application that is receiving data from multiple multicast sources on the same port. I am able to receive the data. However, I am trying to account for statistics of each group (i.e. msgs received, bytes received) and all the data is getting mixed up. Does anyone know how to solved this problem? If I try to look at the sender's address, it is not the multicast address, but rather the IP of the sending machine. I am using the following socket options: struct ip_mreq mreq; mreq.imr_multiaddr.s_addr = inet_addr("224.1.2.3"); mreq.imr_interface.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; setsockopt(s, IPPROTO_IP, IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP, &mreq, sizeof(mreq)); and also: setsockopt(s, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEPORT, &reuse, sizeof(reuse)); I appreciate any help!!!

  hey guys, just having a bit of difficulty with a query, i'm trying to figure out how to show the most popular naturopath that has been visited in a centre. My tables look as follows; Patient(patientId, name, gender, DoB, address, state,postcode, homePhone, businessPhone, maritalStatus, occupation, duration,unit, race, registrationDate , GPNo, NaturopathNo) and Naturopath (NaturopathNo, name, contactNo, officeStartTime, officeEndTime, emailAddress) now to query this i've come up with SELECT count(*), naturopathno FROM dbf10.patient WHERE naturopathno != 'NULL' GROUP BY naturopathno; which results in; COUNT(*) NATUROPATH 2 NP5 1 NP6 3 NP2 1 NP1 2 NP3 1 NP7 2 NP8 My question is, how would I go about selecting the highest count from this list, and printing that value with the naturopaths name? • SSRS 2008 Interactive Sorting in Sub-Report not working as expected

  I have a (parent) report that has a list. The details group of this list contains one sub-report. So basically if the list has 10 records (rows) the sub-report is executed 10 times. The problem seems to be with interactive sorting in the Sub-Report. It has 4 columns with interactive sorting enabled. When I run the parent report and try to sort columns SSRS "remembers" the previous sort column and sorts by multiple columns at the same time. For example if I sort by Col A then click to sort by Col B, SSRS will preserve the sorting of Col A (and the direction) and then apply the sorting to Col B. However I simply want to sort by Col B and do not want to Col A to be part of the sort. When I try this directly with the sub-report everything works as expected. Any ideas why this is happening?

• What are people's opinions vis-a-vis my choice of authorization plugins?

  I'm slowly but surely putting together my first rails app (first web-app of any kind in fact - I'm not really a programmer) and it's time to set up a user registration/login system. The nature of my app is such that each user will be completely separated from each other user (except for admin roles). When users log in they will have their own unique index page looking at only their data which they and no-one else can ever see or edit. However, I may later want to add a role for a user to be able to view and edit several other user's data (e.g. a group of users may want to allow their secretary to access and edit their data but their secretary would not need any data of their own). My plan is to use authlogic to create the login system and declarative authorization to control permissions but before I embark on this fairly major and crucial task I thought I would canvas a few opinions as to whether this combo was appropriate for the tasks I envisage or whether there would be a better/simpler/faster/cheaper/awesomer option.

  Hi, using INNO Setup I currently have the following entry under the [ICONS] section: Name: "{group}\My App\My App - Command Prompt"; Filename: "cmd.exe"; WorkingDir: "{app}" This shortcut launches a command prompt straight into my application's folder. Unfortunately it isn't launched as elevated which means the commands the user runs from there doesn't have appropriate rights. Using INNO Setup, how can I create a shortcut to CMD.exe (in a specific folder) that requires elevation? Doing this for other applications can be done via a manifest file. My question is, how do I use it using INNO, and if I can't, what are my alternatives?

• mySQL Left Join on multiple tables with conditions

  Hi, I have a problem. I have 4 tables: Invoice_Payment, Invoice, Client, and Calendar Basically, I have the below query, which works well, except, months with no date_due don't return. I.E only months with a date_due will be returned. I think I have to use a left join and join the calendar table with something like: LEFT JOIN Calendar ON Invoice_Payments.date_paid = Calendar.date_field.   I am using a telerik radgrid so there are around 5 columns each column edittemplate contains a control along with a required field validator and also a property called AllowMultiRowEdit is set to true so i am able to multiple rows in edit mode. If any of the values are cleared the for multiple rows I want only those to be validated on update of that particular row. So i implemented the Grids item data bound event find each and every validator along with the update button and set a unique validation group. The above implementation most times but fails at some time. Is there any other way of going about this ?

• Getting a sorted distinct list from mySQL

  Goal I'l like to get a list of unique FID's ordered by the the one which has most recently been changed. In this sample table it should return FIDs in the order of 150, 194, 122 Example Data ID FID changeDate ---------------------------------------------- 1 194 2010-04-01 2 122 2010-04-02 3 194 2010-04-03 4 150 2010-04-04 My Attempt I thought distinct and order by would do the trick. I initially tried: SELECT distinct `FID` FROM `tblHistory` WHERE 1 ORDER BY changeDate desc # Returns 150, 122, 194 using GROUP BY has the same result. I'm just barely a SQL amateur, and I'm a bit hung up. What seems to be happening is the aggregating functions find the first occurrence of each and then perform the sort. Is there a way I can get the result I want straight from mySQL or do I have to grab all the data and then sort it in the PHP?

• Installing Bugzilla on Ubuntu 9.04 and Plesk

  Hey guys. I'm trying to install the latest Bugzilla version on my ubuntu server. (Want to use a subdomain like bugs.domain.com) I already installed all necessary perl modules and check_modules.pl doesn't show any errors. But when I'm running the testserver.pl script I get the following: TEST-OK Webserver is running under group id in $webservergroup TEST-FAILED Fetch of images/padlock.png failed I'm also not able to visit ANY file within the bugzilla folder from the browser. I'm always getting a 404 error. The bugzilla folder and all containing files are set to apache as the owner. I tried to enter the apache configuration form the installation guide in the http.include file of the domain and in the vhosts.conf file of the subdomain as well. I don't know what to do... Playing with plesks' suexecgroup doesn't bring any solution... I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!

  Struggling with the following SQL problem Assume a three dimensional table with entries (h,t,q) 1,A,20 1,A,10 1,B,5 2,A,10 2,B,3 2,B,8 3,C,50 4,A,10 etc. I would like to extract 1,30 2,11 3,50 etc. group by first element and then return the maximum q value of same type, i.e. for header number 2 there are 10 As and 11 Bs, so return 11 The "max" element (A in case 1, B in case 2 and C in case 3) is irrelevant, I just need to get out the header and that maximum value. This shouldnt be too tricky, but cant get it to work. Using MS Access, but can use SQL within.

  I have five tables in my database. Members, items, comments, votes and countries. I want to get 10 items. I want to get the count of comments and votes for each item. I also want the member that submitted each item, and the country they are from. After posting here and elsewhere, I started using subselects to get the counts, but this query is taking 10 seconds or more! SELECT `items_2`.*, (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `comments` WHERE (comments.Script = items_2.Id) AND (comments.Active = 1)) AS `Comments`, (SELECT COUNT(votes.Member) FROM `votes` WHERE (votes.Script = items_2.Id) AND (votes.Active = 1)) AS `votes`, `countrys`.`Name` AS `Country` FROM `items` AS `items_2` INNER JOIN `members` ON items_2.Member=members.Id AND members.Active = 1 INNER JOIN `members` AS `members_2` ON items_2.Member=members.Id LEFT JOIN `countrys` ON countrys.Id = members.Country GROUP BY `items_2`.`Id` ORDER BY `Created` DESC LIMIT 10 My question is whether this is the right way to do this, if there's better way to write this statement OR if there's a whole different approach that will be better. Should I run the subselects separately and aggregate the information?
