• Concatenating text in an ASP.NET localized label

  Trying to localize text in ASP.NET labels... want to add a ':' after the localized text. I could just add the ':' to the localized text in the resource file, but that seems silly... there should be an easy way to do this. <asp:Label id="RoleTypeLabel" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources: GS3, RoleTypeLabel %>:' AssociatedControlID="RoleTypeDropDown"></asp:Label> (note the ':' at the end of Text='...') Of course, this doesn't work... and neither does anything I can think of to concatenate a ':' onto the end of the localized text. Anyone know how to do it? TIA, James

• .NET SortedDictionary But Sorted By Values

  I need a data structure that acts like a SortedDictionary<int, double> but is sorted based on the values rather than the keys. I need it to take about 1-2 microseconds to add and remove items when we have about 3000 items in the dictionary. My first thought was simply to switch the keys and values in my code. This very nearly works. I can add and remove elements in about 1.2 microseconds in my testing by doing this. But the keys have to be unique in a SortedDictionary so that means that values in my inverse dictionary would have to be unique. And there are some cases where they may not be. Any ideas of something in the .NET libraries already that would work for me?

• ASP.Net State Server on EC2 not connection

  I am trying to set up an Asp.Net State Server on Amazon EC2. The single web server using this State Server is also on EC2. I've done the following things. I've added the IIS role on the State Server. I changed the value in the registry to allow connections for the service and started the aspstate service. I verified it is listening on port 42424 by checking netstat. I edited the web.config of the Web server to point to this server. I added the the tcp port to my EC2 security group and allowed it for all incoming ip's. Anything else I am not doing?

• unable to connect to ASP.Net development server issue

  Hello everyone, I am debugging codeplex simple project = http://www.codeplex.com/sl2videoplayer. I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + Windows Vista x86 Enterprise. I have not modified any code of this codeplex project, and just press F5 to run VideoPlayerWeb project. The current issue I met with is error message -- "Unable to connect to ASP.Net Development Server". Here is my screen snapshots when clicking F5. • Mimicking basic fcntl or SetHandleInformation call in .Net

  Tornado enables win32 support by faking Python's fcntl function using SetHandleInformation, which is available via ctypes on Windows. After some other small fixes, this actually works using IronPython on Windows as well (sadly, IronPython is five times slower). I'd like to get Tornado working on any CLI platform, such using Mono on OSX or Linux. Is there a managed, cross-platform, .Net approach that can fake fcntl?   Can someone suggest that out of the two mentioned (odd?) combinations, which is less odd, or in other words, is less trouble to work with + maintain. If it helps, the system is going to have two front-ends - one web application and one desktop application. The desktop application is going to be coded using VB.NET, and the web application in PHP. There's really no reason why the desktop application can't be replaced by a web application as well - except that one of the programmers seem to really want to code it in VB.... However, none of us have experience working with either of these pairs (you could easily call us n00bs), so we are a bit apprehensive to start. P.S. hosting service will be gotten from some provider and not be on the client's own server.

• recaptcha asp.net always returns invalid

  The reCaptcha example for ASP.NET does not seem to work. I followed the instructions but it always returns false, "The verification words are incorrect.". The entries are good. I'm using localhost as the site but am not getting any public/private key errors which I did get when adding a bad key (as a test). I've seen this error reported a lot but no good answers. Some suggest to call the validate on the control before checking to see if it is valid but this did not work for me.

• Disabling scoring in Lucene(.NET)

  Hi, When searching, is there a way to disable scoring for any query? The scenario is that the user refines his query by trying different combinations of words, phrases etc., and needs realtime (well, reasonably fast at least) responses on the number of hits. Search time slows down a lot when there are millions of hits due to scoring, but the user really doesn't care about all these documents. As soon as he sees there are 1M+ hits he will start adding additional words to the query. A "Sort by relevance" option would allow him to do this quickly, while turning scoring back on when the number of hits is reasonable. Is this possible? I'm using Lucene.NET 2.9.2 but AFAIK it is identical to the Java version.

  Hi, i'm quite new to HTML, and am trying to create a professional looking TreeView. I can not use the in built TreeView in ASP.NET as i need to point the target of the selection to another frame (I have tried, and this doesn't seem possible). My TreeView is built up as follows: Folder1 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree Folder2 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree I have the collapsing of the folders working, but would like to know how to format this TreeView so it has dotted lines down to the child nodes (as most TreeViews tend to have).   i have successful created asp.net web deployment project under visual studio 2008 and everything works fine. However there is a new requirement from my user where they want to browse the location to install the web application instead of using the default install location. Is there anyway to achieve this ? or do i need to use some third party deployment tools? i have tried the sample transformation file on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/install/ChangeVDirWebSetupProject.aspx?fid=295594&fr=1&df=90&mpp=25&noise=3&sort=Position&view=Quick#xx0xx but it only seems to work under vs2005 thanks

• Strong name validation failed on VB.NET Assembly

  I have a VB.Net 1.1 application works just fine after compiling in Visual Studio. However, I want to use ILMerge to combine all the referenced assemblies into a single executable just to make it easier to move around. After I send it through ILMerge and try to run it I get the error "Strong name validation failed for .exe" ..... But none of my stuff is strong named! I saw this post here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/403731/strong-name-validation-failed and tried running it through 'sn.exe -Vr .exe' but that gives me this error: ".exe does not represent a strongly named assembly" Has anyone else had this problem before? How do I fix it?

  Greetings, Apologies in advance that I have not researched this toughly enough to answer the question myself, but I imagine it would take me some time and I would rather know now before I invest more time in learning it. I couldn't find anything in my initial research.. Why use ASP.Net MVC if your already using a multi-tier architecture (Data Layer, Logic Layer, Presentation Layer)? Other than the fact the controller has more power than the logic layer. Am I right in thinking I can use nHibernate and all my data access classes, entities, and mappings in the Model part of the MVC? When using controllers, is it best to separate a lot of the logic into a separate class so I can call it from multiple controllers? Or can I call them from the controllers themselves, considering the fact that I would not want all of them to be Actions, just normal methods. Thanks

  I'm not a .NET developer, and I have a feeling this would be trivial for someone who is: I have a C# web application that makes user of the user credentials of the logged in user. Currently it uses the SID which comes from System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().User.Value I need to get either the users UPN login or email address (as defined in active directory) instead of the SID. GetCurrent() returns an object of type WindowsIdentity; looking in the details for WindowsIdentity Members: MSDN: WindowsIdentity Members I can't see anything that looks like it would give me either the UPN or email in there. How can I pull up that information to use, either by feeding the SID into some other function or calling something different in the first place.

  I need to setup some 301 permanent redirects in the web.config of an ASP.NET MVC application running under IIS. The easiest way is to add a tag similar to the one below to the web.config file: <location path="TheMenu.aspx"> <system.webServer> <httpRedirect enabled="true" destination="menus/" httpResponseStatus="Permanent" /> </system.webServer> </location> When I go to the site at http://domain.com/TheMenu.aspx it redirects me to http://domain.com/menusxd instead of http://domain.com/menus What would be causing this? These resources are used in the aspx and code-behind files: aspx: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources:testTag %>" /> .vb: TextBox1.Text = GetLocalResourceObject("testTag").ToString If I deploy the .resx files with the app, there are no problems. However, if I change the build action on the resx file to "Embedded Resource", the resources aren't available, even though they're in the DLL that gets built. Is it possible to deploy resources in a DLL, or am I stuck with managing & deploying resx files on the server?

• Why can .NET not have memory leaks?

  Ignoring unsafe code, .NET cannot have memory leaks. I've read this endlessly from many experts and I believe it. However, I do not understand why this is so. It is my understanding that the framework itself is written in C++ and C++ is susceptible to memory leaks. Is the underlying framework so well-written, that it absolutely does not have any possibility of internal memory leaks? Is there something within the framework's code that self-manages and even cures its own would-be memory leaks? Is the answer something else that I haven't considered?

• Does .NET Regex support global matching?

  I haven't been able to find anything online regarding this. There's RegexOptions, but it doesn't have Global as one of its options. The inline modifiers list also doesn't mention global matching. In a nutshell, I've got a regex to parse something like --arga= "arg1" --argb ="arg2" into separate argument name/value pairs using this regex: --(\\w+)\\s*=\\s*\"(\\w+)\"\\s* but the .NET Regex class doesn't do it globally (iteratively). So in order for me to get this to work, I'd have to do a match, then remove this from the argument string, and loop over and over again until I've exhausted all of the arguments. It would be nicer to run the regex once, and then loop over the match groups to get the name value pairs. Is this possible? What am I missing?

• How to use Dependency Injection with ASP.NET

  I am trying to work out a way to use Dependency Injection with ASP.NET controls. I have got lots of controls that create repositories directly, and use those to access and bind to data etc. I am looking for a pattern where I can pass repositories to the controls externally (IoC), so my controls remain unaware of how repositories are constructed and where they come from etc. I would prefer not to have a dependency on the IoC container from my controls, therefore I just want to be able to construct the controls with constructor or property injection. (And just to complicate things, these controls are being constructed and placed on the page by a CMS at runtime!) Any thoughts?
