  • strcasecmp in C returns 156 instead of 0, any ideas why?

    I have the following code: printf("num: %d\n", strcasecmp(buf, "h\n")); And I get the following results when I try plugging in different letters: a: -7 g: -1 i: 1 j: 2 h: 156 H: 156 Should strcasecmp not return 0 when buf is equal to H or h? Any ideas why it's returning 156? I need to figure out how to check whether the user types H or h. Thanks!

    I seek a solution to the age-old problem of managing string resources. My current implementation seems to work well, but it depends on using singletons, and I know how often singletons can be maligned. The resource manager class has a singleton instance that handles lookups in the ResourceBundle, and you use it like so: MessageResources mr = MessageResources.getMessageResources(); // returns singleton instance ... JLabel helloLabel = new JLabel(mr.getString("label.hello")); Is this an appropriate use of a singleton? Is there some better, more universally used approach that I'm not aware of? I understand that this is probably a bit subjective, but any feedback I can get would be appreciated. I'd rather find out early on that I'm doing it wrong than later on in the process. Thanks!

  • Can't access dojo object property using string variable

    I am retrieving a json associative array using a dojo xhrGet request. The data comes back just fine, however I need the app to be able to display the keys and their properties (or values) without knowing the keys beforehand. So, I do the following: function getData() { dojo.xhrGet( { url: "ytd_process.php", handleAs: "json", load: function(response) { for (var key in response) { dojo.byId("boxes").innerHTML+="<div id=\"box\">"+key+":"+response.key+"</div>"; } console.dir(response); // Dump it to the console } }); }; The keys are retrieved and displayed on the page, but the response.key returns undefined. I know the syntax is correct because if I replace .key with an actual key value it will display correctly. It appears it doesn't like a string as the key. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • DataAdapter Select string from base table schema?

    When I built my .xsd, I had to choose the columns for each table, and it made a schema for the tables, right? So how can I get that Select string to use as a base Select command for new instances of dataadapters, and then just append a Where and OrderBy clause to it as needed? That would keep me from having to keep each DataAdapter's field list (for the same table) in synch with the schema of that table in the .xsd file. Isn't it common to have several DataAdapters that work on a certain table schema, but with different params in the Where and OrderBy clauses? Surely one does not have to maintain (or even redundently build) the field list part of the Select strings for half a dozen DataAdapters that all work off of the same table schema. I'm envisioning something like this pseudo code: BaseSelectString = MyTypedDataSet.JobsTable.GetSelectStringFromSchema() // Is there such a method or technique?     I have a single table called "Indexes", it contains one nvarchar and three ntext columns (all Full Text Indexes). Index is up to date. CONTAINSTABLE(Indexes, *), 'test', 5) //5 results No matter what I change the above keyword too, it only returns the first 3-5 results. It should roughly return 90-120 results, for the above query. SELECT count(*) FROM Indexes WHERE [Description] like '%test%' //122 results How would I start to troubleshoot this problem?

  • Best way to handle SQL Server fulltext index updates

    Hi all, I have a fulltext index which doesn't need to be immediately up-to-date, I'd like to spare myself the I/O (when I do bulk updates, I see a ton of I/O related to the index) and do the index updates during low usage times (nightly, perhaps even weekly). It seems there are two ways to go about this: Turn off change tracking (SET CHANGE_TRACKING OFF) and add a timestamp field to the indexed table, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start INCREMENTAL population, or Enable change tracking, but set it to MANUAL, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start UPDATE population when you need it updated. Is there a preferred method? I couldn't tell from this overview if there was a performance benefit one way or the other. Tom

    I have a template with has text in it. It's located in /templates under my project directory. I'm trying to do Japanese now. I create a directory called "locale" in my project directory. Then, I set up this in my settings: gettext = lambda s: s LANGUAGES = ( ('de', gettext('German')), ('en', gettext('English')), ('ja', gettext('Japanese')), ) After that, I run this command: django-admin.py makemessages -l ja The only problem is, this doesn't work!   • Poor execution plans when using a filter and CONTAINSTABLE in a query

    We have an interesting problem that I was hoping someone could help to shed some light on. At a high level the problem is as below: The following query executes quickly (1 second): SELECT SA.* FROM cg.SEARCHSERVER_ACTYS AS SA JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(CG.SEARCHSERVER_ACTYS, NOTE, 'reports') AS T1 ON T1.[Key]=SA.UNIQUE_ID but if we add a filter to the query, then it takes approximately 2 minutes to return: SELECT SA.* FROM cg.SEARCHSERVER_ACTYS AS SA JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(CG.SEARCHSERVER_ACTYS, NOTE, 'reports') AS T1 ON T1.[Key]=SA.UNIQUE_ID WHERE SA.CHG_DATE'19 Feb 2010' Looking at the execution plan for the two queries, I can see that in the second case there are two places where there are huge differences between the actual and estimated number of rows, these being: 1) For the FulltextMatch table valued function where the estimate is approx 22,000 rows and the actual is 29 million rows (which are then filtered down to 1670 rows before the join) and 2) For the index seek on the full text index, where the estimate is 1 row and the actual is 13,000 rows As a result of the estimates, the optimiser is choosing to use a nested loops join (since it assumes a small number of rows) hence the plan is inefficient. We can work around the problem by either (a) parameterising the query and adding an OPTION (OPTIMIZE FOR UNKNOWN) to the query or (b) by forcing a HASH JOIN to be used. In both of these cases the query returns in sub 1 second and the estimates appear reasonable. My question really is 'why are the estimates being used in the poorly performing case so wildly inaccurate and what can be done to improve them'? Statistics are up to date on the indexes on the indexed view being used here. Any help greatly appreciated.

I've completed the MVC Music Store tutorial, and now I'm trying to add some administrator functionality - practice as I will have to do this in an MVC application in my job. The application is using the aspnet membership api, and what I have done so far is created a view to list the users. What I want to be able to do, is click on the users name in order to change their password. To try and carry the username to the changeUserPassword controller (custom made). I registered a new route in the global.asax.cs file in order to display the username in the URL, which is working so far.   • VBA compare and sort strings with quirky characters

    I am comparing text values from two DAO recordsets in MS Access. I sort on the text field, then go through both recordsets comparing the values from each. The sets are substantially different and while they're mostly alpha-numeric, spaces and symbols like hyphens and periods are very common. My program depends on predictable sorting and fool-proof comparing. But unfortunately, the sort will rank two values differently than the comparison function. StrComp is the obvious first choice: varResult = StrComp(Val_1, Val_2) RFA-300 14.9044 RFA300 14-2044 But for the two pairs above, StrComp returns a different value than one would expect based on the sort. Including vbTextCompare or vbBinaryCompare affects StrComp's result, but not so as to solve the problem. Note the values must always be compared as strings. Of course I make sure that "14-2044" and "14.9044" aren't evaluated as -2030 and ~15. That's not the cause of my problem. I learned API-based functions are more reliable for quirky texts, so I tried these: varResult = CompareString(LOCALE_SYSTEM_DEFAULT, _ SORT_STRINGSORT, strVal_2, -1, strVal_1, -1) varResult = CompareString(LOCALE_SYSTEM_DEFAULT, _ NORM_IGNOREWIDTH, strVal_2, -1, strVal_1, -1) The first one returns the opposite of StrComp. The second one returns the same as StrComp. But neither yields a result that is consistent with the sort order. (NORM_IGNOREWIDTH is probably not relevant, but I needed a place-holder substitute and it looked as good as any.) UPDATE: This is a complete rewrite of the original post, deleting all the info about why I really need this -- just take my word for it and enjoy the brevity.

  • Upload An Excel File in Classic ASP On Windows 2003 x64 Using Office 2010 Drivers

    So, we are migrating an old web app from a 32-bit server to a newer 64-bit server. The app is basically a Classic ASP app. The pool is set to run in 64-bit and cannot be set to 32-bit due to other components. However, this breaks the old usage of Jet drivers and subsequent parsing of Excel files. After some research, I downloaded the 64-bit version of the new 2010 Office System Driver Beta and installed it. Presumably, this allows one to open and read Excel and CSV files. Here's the snippet of code that errors out. Think I followed the lean guidelines on the download page: Set con = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") con.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0;Data Source=" & strPath & ";Extended Properties=""Excel 14.0;""" con.Open Any ideas why? UPDATE: My apologies. I did forget the important part, the error message: ADODB.Connection error '800a0e7a' Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed. /vendor/importZipList2.asp, line 56 I have installed, and uninstalled/reinstalled twice.

  • Can't append space at end of UITextView

    I have a UITextView in which I want the initial value to be "@username " (notice the space after the username). This way the user can start typing right away without having to tap space. So I do: textView.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"@%@ ", username]; But it seems like it's impossible to have the UITextView text property ending with a space (it always gets stripped out). Am I correct? Is there any workaround for this? I tried using the \s char and no success.
