• HQL make query searching by date (Java+NetBeans)

  Hi all I have the following issue. I have a table of reserves in my MySQL DB, the date columns is defined DATETIME. I need to make a query using hibernate to find all reserves in one day no matter the hour, just that its the same year month and date, and I'm doing this public List<Reserve> bringAllResByDate(Date date){ em = emf.createEntityManager(); Query q = em.createQuery("SELECT r FROM Reserve r WHERE r.date=:date "); q.setParameter("date", date); ... I really dont know how to make it compare, and bring me just those from the specified date, any help??

• Simplest way of creating java next/previous buttons

  I know that when creating buttons, like next and previous, that the code can be somewhat long to get those buttons to function. My professor gave us this example to create the next button: private void jbtnNext_Click() { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Next" ,"Button Pressed", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE); try { if (rset.next()) { fillTextFields(false); }else{ //Display result in a dialog box JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Not found"); } } catch (SQLException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } Though, I do not really understand how that short and simple if statement is what makes the next button function. I see that the fillTextFields(false) uses a boolean value and that you need to initialize that boolean value in the beginning of the code I believe. I had put private fillTextFields boolean = false; but this does not seem to be right... I'm just hoping someone could explain it better. Thanks :)

• Java Appending a character to a textarea

  I'm looking to appends a character to a textarea in. I have a simple GUI designed to look like like a mobile phone and I want to be able to click on one of the buttons and update the textarea with that character. If I click another button, I want to be able to append that character to the first. How do I do this?   I am building a whiteboard, which would have a server(teacher) and clients(students). Teacher would draw something on his side, which will be shown exactly same to the students. I want to know which component i should use to do the drawing? i am currently drawing on JPanel . I want the screen of Server gets copied on the clients, so for that what could be the right method to do this? option1: i save the JPanel as image, and send thru socket, and loads it on the screen of client, also it always saves the background image only, not what the user has drawn onto it. OR option2: both server and client JPanel dimensions are same, so i just send the new coordinates drawn everytime thru socket, with some protocol to understand whether it is rubber or pencil.. Any help would be appreciated.

Now look at the line Object myObj = new String[]{"one", "two", "three"};. This line is same as Vehicle v = new Car(); right? In both lines we are assigning sub class object to super class reference variable. But downcasting String[]myObj is allowed but (Bike)v is not. Please help me understand what is going on around here.

For some reason I now have to support HTTPS too.   I'm trying to zip a large number of pdf files (stored as BLOBs in the DB) and then return the zip as an attachment to the user. What's the best way to do this without running into memory issues? Another note: I actually need to merge some PDFs prior to adding them to the ZipOutputStream. Therefore, a couple PDFs will need to be stored in memory at a time. I assume it would be best to then store them as temporary files on the server before zipping them all?
