• How do I layout a form in WPF using grid or other controls for maintainability

  I have a WPF form, I want to lay out a standard form onto it. Each form element will have a label, and then a control. Pretty standard stuff. If I use a wrap panel, it can cause the label and the control to be separated, but I want them to stay together. is there some WPF equivalent of nobr? Grid works, and allows for column spanning etc, however I really really hate that you specify the column and row on each control. This makes it extremely inconvenient to reorder or insert things into the list. Is there a way to get the grid to use more HTML style column/rows where the items are a child of the row they are in, so that I can re-order easily? Is there some other control that will let me layout a form easily?

• Need help creating flash animation with clickable buttons at the end.

  Very inexperienced with Flash, but I hope this is simple enough for someone to walk me through. I'm ultimately trying to create a flash page for an html website that has a brief five-second animation during which 3 buttons fade in (buttons then become clickable after the animation is over). The animation part is done. Right now, I am trying to get my movie to stop and hold on the last frame, where I want to add the 3 buttons that the user can click on to take them to one 3 different html pages of my website. All instructions that I've found online have said to create a new layer for actions, insert a keyframe on the last frame of the movie, and add stop(); in the actionscript window. However, when I have the keyframe selected, my actionscript window says "current selection cannot have actions applied to it". Any ideas? I definitely don't have any objects selected, just the keyframe. Or, am I approaching this totally wrong?

  In order to select data from part of an application that isn't affected by dirty data, I create a TransactionScope that specifies a ReadUncommitted IsolationLevel as per the suggestion from Hanselman here. My question is, do I still need to execute the oTS.Complete() call at the end of the using block even if this transaction scope was not built for the purpose of bridging object dependencies across 2 databases during an Insert, Update, or Delete?   I have a asp.net web forms app that uses System.Web.Caching.Cache to cache xml data from a number of web services for 2 hours. webCacheObj.Remove(dataCacheKey) webCacheObj.Insert(dataCacheKey, dataToCache, Nothing, DateTime.Now.AddHours(2), Nothing) Every 90 minutes a Microsoft Search Server hits a particular (spider) page which calls the code to put the objects into the cache. The issue i have is that over a period of time, the memory usage of the application grows exponentially. Lets say that in a week, the memory usage of the application pool grows to over 1gb. I'm using IIS7 and no application pool recycling is currently enabled.

• How can I load a sql "dump" file into sql alchemy

  I have a large sql dump file ... with multiple CREATE TABLE and INSERT INTO statements. Is there any way to load these all into a SQLAlchemy sqlite database at once. I plan to use the introspected ORM from sqlsoup after I've created the tables. However, when I use the engine.execute() method it complains: sqlite3.Warning: You can only execute one statement at a time. Is there a way to work around this issue. Perhaps splitting the file with a regexp or some kind of parser, but I don't know enough SQL to get all of the cases for the regexp. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will EDIT: Since this seems important ... The dump file was created with a MySQL database and so it has quite a few commands/syntax that sqlite3 does not understand correctly.

• Is it okay to truncate a SHA256 hash to 128 bits?

  MD5 and SHA-1 hashes have weaknesses against collision attacks. SHA256 does not but it outputs 256 bits. Can I safely take the first or last 128 bits and use that as the hash? I know it will be weaker (because it has less bits) but otherwise will it work? Basically I want to use this to uniquely identify files in a file system that might one day contain a trillion files. I'm aware of the birthday problem and a 128 bit hash should yield about a 1 in a trillion chance on a trillion files that there would be two different files with the same hash. I can live with those odds. What I can't live with is if somebody could easily, deliberately, insert a new file with the same hash and the same beginning characters of the file. I believe in MD5 and SHA1 this is possible.

• Twitter's Bootstrap 2.x popover callback can't focus on element

  I've modified bootstrap's popover function to include a callback which works great. But in the callback I cannot programmatically focus on the first form field. Strange, because I can manipulate other elements in the callback function as well as focus on the element at other points.   I'm trying to implement some basic entities using Hibernate/JPA. Initially the code was deployed on MySQL and was working fine. Now, I'm porting it over to use PostgreSQL. In MySQL, my entity class defines its primary key as an auto-incrementing long value with the following syntax: @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) private Long id; However, I've found that I get errors with PostgreSQL when I try and insert numerous records at a time. What do I need to annotate my primary key with to get the same auto-incrementing behavior in PostgreSQL as I have with MySQL? Thanks for any help you can provide!

• setting codeigniter mysql datetime column to time() always sets it to 0

  Hi guys. I'm using Codeigniter for a small project, and my model works correctly except for the dates. I have a column defined: created_at datetime not null and my model code includes in its array passed into db-insert: 'created_at' = time() This produces a datetime value of 0000-00-00 00:00:00. When I change it to: 'created_at' = "from_unixtime(" . time() . ")" it still produces the 0 datetime value. What am I doing wrong? How can I set this field to the given unix time? Also, I know mysql sets TIMESTAMP columns automatically for you - I'm not interested in that solution here. So far I can't find a complete example of this on the web.

  I'm not sure if the title properly explains what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to move from using SQL Reporting Services to a Crystal Reports Web App. I've gotten some reports to design properly because they are simple cross-tab reports that require nothing special. I'm running into a little problem of a user matrix report. Here's how the report looks on SQL Reporting Services: group1 group2 group3 username1 first1 last1 title1 X X username2 first2 last2 title2 X X 2 1 1 Normally in VS2008 with a SQL rdl, I would right click on the row and Insert Column. However, i don't see a way to do this in Crystal Reports. I've tried setting up multiple row groups, but that adds mutliple groupings like: group1 Total ... Username Total ... first Total ... last ...

• Using SHIFT_JIS text in PHP

  I am building a form that needs to accept characters encoded in SHIFT_JIS and then send those results via email to a recipient. I've tried to simply capture the results from the $_POST variable and then to insert them into a block of text like this: $contents = <<<TEST Name: $NameJp ... TEST but that doesn't appear to work (which doesn't really surprise me). This is my first attempt at dealing with non-ASCII characters in PHP and I am hoping that people might have some suggestions. Perhaps I am missing a simple function to encode the text. Also, are there any other potential pitfalls that I might encounter? Thanks.

So far, i found DBI can only execute one statement at a time, and without the ";" at the end.

• Oracle/c#: How do i use bind variables with select statements to return multiple records?

  I have a question regarding Oracle bind variables and select statements. What I would like to achieve is do a select on a number different values for the primary key. I would like to pass these values via an array using bind values. select * from tb_customers where cust_id = :1 int[] cust_id = { 11, 23, 31, 44 , 51 }; I then bind a DataReader to get the values into a table. The problem is that the resulting table only contains a single record (for cust_id=51). Thus it seems that each statement is executed independently (as it should), but I would like the results to be available as a collective (single table). A workaround is to create a temporary table, insert all the values of cust_id and then do a join against tb_customers. The problem with this approach is that I would require temporary tables for every different type of primary key, as I would like to use this against a number of tables (some even have combined primary keys). Is there anything I am missing?

• MS SQL Server 2008 Stored Procedure Result as Column Default Value

  First of all, thank you guys. You always know how to direct me when I cant even find the words to explain what the heck im trying to do. The default values of the columns on a couple of my tables need to equal the result of some complicated calculations on other columns in other tables. My first thought is to simply have the column default value equal the result of a stored procedure. I would also have one or more of the parameters pulled from the columns in the calling table. I don't know the syntax of how to do it though, and any time the word "stored" and "procedure" land next to each other in google I'm flooded with info on Parameter default values and nothing relating to what I actually want. Half of that was more of a vent than a question...any ideas though? And plz plz dont say "Well, you could use an On-Insert Trigger to..."

• Rails and jQuery - how do you get server-side validation errors to your view after an ajax request

  Ive searched this site but questions are usually regarding doing client-side validations or for different frameworks. I have a tasks list whose items can be edited inline. Upon submitting the inline edit form the item is updated all thanks to jQuery, ajax and rails. But I want to handle bad input from the user. HTML requests redisplay the view and errors are displayed thanks to rails helpers. But how do I insert that information after an ajax call? • Starting self hosted WCF services on demand

  Is it possible to start self hosted WCF services on demand? I see two options to accomplish this: Insert a listener in the self hosted WCF's web server and spin up a service host when a request for a specific service comes in, before WCF starts looking for the existence of that endpoint; or Integrate a web service in process, start a service host for a request if it isn't running yet and redirect the request to that service host (like I suspect IIS does). I cannot use IIS or WAS because the web services need to run in process with the UI business logic. Which is feasible and how can I accomplish this? EDIT: I cannot just start the service hosts because there are hundreds, most (about 95%) of which are (almost) never used but need to be available. This is for exposing a business logic layer of 900 entities.

• Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

  I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node. I've seen two ways to do this. http://drupal.org/node/133705 (importing data into CCK nodes) http://drupal.org/node/237574 (Inserting data using spreadsheet/csv instead of SQL insert statements) Basically my question(s) is what is the best way to gather, then import data into drupal? • Pointer-based binary heap implementation

  Is it even possible to implement a binary heap using pointers rather than an array? I have searched around the internet (including SO) and no answer can be found. The main problem here is that, how do you keep track of the last pointer? When you insert X into the heap, you place X at the last pointer and then bubble it up. Now, where does the last pointer point to? And also, what happens when you want to remove the root? You exchange the root with the last element, and then bubble the new root down. Now, how do you know what's the new "last element" that you need when you remove root again?
