  • Pre loaded database on iPhone?

    Hi, I have recently developed an app using core data as the storage db. The app allowed the user to read and write to the db. I am now developing a new app which the user doesnt need to write anything to the db, instead the app just needs to read the data. The data has relationships etc so cannot just use a plist or something similar. My question is should I use core data for such a requirement and if so how would i go about entering the data and then releasing the app. Would I have to code the data entry which would populate the db then remove all this code (as I dont want the database to repopulate every time the user opens the app)?? Is there a way to create a core data model using sql commands as with sqlite ie insert into..... etc? Any ideas/thoughts would be very helpful. Many thanks Jules

  • Why can’t PHP script write a file on server 2008 via command line or task scheduler?

    I created a question on serverfault.com, and it was recommended that I ask here. http://serverfault.com/questions/140669/why-cant-php-script-write-a-file-on-server-2008-via-command-line-or-task-schedul I have a PHP script. It runs well when I use a browser. It writes an XML file in the same directory. The script takes ~60 seconds to run, and the resulting XML file is ~16 MB. I am running PHP 5.2.13 via FastCGI on Windows Server Web edition SP1 64 bit. The code pulls inventory from SQL server, runs a loop to build an XML file for a third party. I created a task in task scheduler to run c:\php5\php.exe "D:\inetpub\tools\build.php" The task scheduler shows a time lapse of about a minute, which is how long the script takes to run in a browser. No error returned, but no file created. Each time I make a change to the scheduled task properties, a user password box comes up and I enter the administrator account password. If I run this same path and argument at a command line it does not error and does not create the file. When I right click run command prompt as an administrator, the file is still not created. I get my echo statement "file published" that is after the file creation and no error is returned. I am doing a simple fopen fwrite fclose to save the contents of a php variable to a .xml file, and the file only gets created when the script is run through the browser. Here's what happens after the xml-building loop: $feedContent .= "</feed"; sqlsrv_close( $conn ); echo "<p>feed built</p>"; $feedFile = "feed.xml"; $handler = fopen($feedFile, 'w'); fwrite( $handler, $feedContent ); fclose( $handler ); echo "<p>file published</p>"; Thanks

    Hey, I've been doing some changes to my django develpment env, as some of you suggested. So far I've managed to configure and run it successfully with postgres. Now I'm trying to run the app using apache2 and mod_wsgi, but I ran into this little problem after I followed the guidelines from the django docs. BUT WHERE IS THIS VARIABLE PASSED? The funtion inturn calls new.rhtml which contains <% form_for(@product) do |f| % #all form elments declaration <% f.submit "Create" % <%= end % Here @product is initialized in the controller file and passed to this new.rhtml. So where does form_for(@product) gets the data? How does the control gets tranfered to create function in controller file when submit button is clicked? No where action is specified to the controller file. in the create function, wat does redirec_to(@product) specify where @product is an object received from the new.html file... I am very much confused on the basics of ROR. Somone pls help me clarify this. pardon me for making such a big post. I have lots of doubts in this single piece of code

    I'm adding some models to a project, and was wondering if there is a "best practice" kind of approach to creating models: Does it make sense to create a function for each specific query? I was starting to do this, then had the idea of creating a generic function that I could pass parameters to. e.g: Instead of function getClients(){ return $this->db->query('SELECT client_id,last FROM Names ORDER BY id DESC'); } function getClientNames($clid){ return $this->db->query('SELECT * FROM Names WHERE client_id = '.$clid); } function getClientName($nameID){ return $this->db->query('SELECT * FROM Names WHERE id ='.$nameID); } } Something like function getNameData($args,$cond){ if($cond==''){ $q=$this->db->query('SELECT '.$args.' FROM Names'); return $q; }else{ $q=$this->db->query('SELECT '.$args.' FROM Names WHERE '.$cond); return $q; } } where I can pass the fields and conditions (if applicable) to the model.   • Fundamentals of Deserialization in .NET?

    I have been working with XML for past couple of months with .NET Basically all the work I do involve XML in oneway of another so I thought it would be good to learn the serialization and deserialization part of the game. My work mostly involves the 'Deserialization' part of it. Almost every time I have an XML file which has to be used by the application that I write. An object form of the XML is the best way to use. Now initially the XML was very straight forward, just a couple of tags which would translate into a class very easily using XSD.exe tool. Things grew a bit complex with nesting of tags and I found Xsd2Code gen tool work fine. During this whole process I have been able to do my work with a lot of help from Stackoverflow community, thanks for that, but I think I have missed the forest for the trees. I need to know how Deserialization works in .NET Fundamentally, I would like to know what happens behind the scenes in taking a XML and converting it into a usable object. Code samples have helped me in the past, and as mentioned earlier the problem get's solved but the learning does not happen. So, if anyone can guide to resources that can get me started on the Deserialization part of the game, I would be thankful to them. Regards.

    I've got a script that is a notify_url from paypal that is supposed to update multiple tables in my database using the following code: //update first table $this-db-where('someid', $somid); $this-db-update('table', $data); ///update second table $this-db-where('somesecondid', $somesecondid) $this-db-update('anothertable', $data2); Then I get the following error: Unknown column 'somesecondid' in 'where clause' UPDATE anothertable SET avail = 0 WHERE someid = '13' AND somesecondid = '199' So codeigniter is combining those where clauses into a single query. Is there a way to unset the first one so it only has "UPDATE anothertable SET avail=0 WHERE somesecondid = 199" ? Thanks!

I have table named inventory which has: trans_id trans_items items -> item_id trans_user employees -> person_id trans_date trans_comment trans_inventory As you can see above, trans_items is a foreign key in items table, and trans_user is a foreign key in employees table. Now what I want to do is to display in HTML the inventory table, but instead of displaying the item id, I want the ITEM NAME to be displayed. Here is what I have done. From my domain object I have to invoke a Web Service Client and in order to get a reference to the Web Service client I do this: ApplicationContext context = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("client-ws.xml"); //b'cos I don't want to use WebApplicationContextUtils ProductServiceClient client = (ProductServiceClient) context.getBean("productClient"); .. client.find(prodID); //calls a Web Service .. However, I have concerns that looking up the client-ws.xml file and getting a reference to the ProductServiceClient bean is not efficient. I thought of getting it using WebApplicationContextUtils. However, I don't want my domain objects to have a dependency on the ServletContext (a web/control layer object) because WebApplicationContextUtils depends on ServletContext. What is the best way to get a reference to a spring bean in the backend layers? Thanks!

When I tried to insert data into the database which I created with Base and attached to the project, the data that was inserted programmatically will not show up when I restart my app.However the data inserted manually using Base will show up just fine.     Hi friends, I'm a drupal newbie who needs some advice... I have a news list block at homepage, created with View Module. It is listing all added news' title and link. Everything is cool so far. Now I need to add an ON/OFF option at admin side for homepage news block. When the setting is ON, it will work as it is. When it is OFF, only the titles will be listed with no linking to news detail page. So, now where should I add this ON/OFF option? I have only add/edit/delete pages for each news, there is no common news page to add such option. Should I create an admin page with such ON/OFF option in? Also I think I need to create a db table to keep this ON/OFF status. and controlling this value at homepage block, if it is 1 or 0, and displaying links according to db value :/ it looks too long way Create db table Create an page with ON/OFF option in add php codes to update db for admin's choice get the db value in homepage block to display links, etc. is there any shorter, better way to do what I need?     Hi folks, i am trying to optimize performance for my database. My question is - what get cached in the db memory? For example: (table with 2 columns: key (indexed), data (not indexed) updated (not indexed) Select * where updated=20100202 (the db will do a scan - will the scanned rows be kept in memory?) Select * where key = 20 (the db will refer to the index - will the identified rows be kept in memory?)
