  • Split large repo into multiple subrepos and preserve history (Mercurial)

    We have a large base of code that contains several shared projects, solution files, etc in one directory in SVN. We're migrating to Mercurial. I would like to take this opportunity to reorganize our code into several repositories to make cloning for branching have less overhead. I've already successfully converted our repo from SVN to Mercurial while preserving history. My question: how do I break all the different projects into separate repositories while preserving their history? Here is an example of what our single repository (OurPlatform) currently looks like: /OurPlatform ---- Core ---- Core.Tests ---- Database ---- Database.Tests ---- CMS ---- CMS.Tests ---- Product1.Domain ---- Product1.Stresstester ---- Product1.Web ---- Product1.Web.Tests ---- Product2.Domain ---- Product2.Stresstester ---- Product2.Web ---- Product2.Web.Tests ==== Product1.sln ==== Product2.sln All of those are folders containing VS Projects except for the solution files. Product1.sln and Product2.sln both reference all of the other projects. Ideally, I'd like to take each of those folders, and turn them into separate Hg repos, and also add new repos for each project (they would act as parent repos). Then, If someone was going to work on Product1, they would clone the Product1 repo, which contained Product1.sln and subrepo references to ReferenceAssemblies, Core, Core.Tests, Database, Database.Tests, CMS, and CMS.Tests. So, it's easy to do this by just hg init'ing in the project directories. But can it be done while preserving history? Or is there a better way to arrange this?

  • Something preventing default (explorer-style) CListCtrl jump to line behaviour

    I'm maintaining an MFC/COM/ATL 45-odd project solution originally written with VS6. I'm now using VS2008. I'm looking at a list control(vanilla CListCtrl) which doesn't behave as we think it should. Normally in an MFC list control you can press a key, (Q say) & selection will jump down to the 1st line beginning with 'Q' (like windows explorer). Does anyone have an idea as to why this might not happen? The styles/Extended styles are set the same as another control in the same project, which DOES work OK. Do I have to send my own message, or is there a flag, etc. that controls that functionality or what? Normally Google would supply the answer, but I haven't been able to frame my query correctly to come up with the relevant info this time. Here's the line from the .rc file for the CListCtrl that doesn't jump to a line on keypress: CONTROL "List1",IDC_BAL_LIST,"SysListView32",LVS_REPORT | LVS_SHOWSELALWAYS | WS_BORDER | WS_TABSTOP,0,73,493,230 And here's a line from the same .rc file showing a list control that does do that: CONTROL "List1",IDC_LIST1,"SysListView32",LVS_REPORT | LVS_SHOWSELALWAYS | WS_BORDER | WS_TABSTOP,1,38,501,219 As you can see, there's no obvious difference to the properties, so what program code would affect it?

  • After installing VS 2010 - Generic Host Process For Win32 Services problem starts.

    After installing VS 2010 trial I am getting this error "Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Encountered A Problem and needs to close. When this message pops my computer just stuck and I can not even restart it normally. I have found one fix on net but after that fix I can not access my LAN. This fix change these values in registry. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netbt\parameters TransportBindName HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE EnableDCOM If I revert these registry changes then I again start getting 'Generic Host Process For Win32 Services' I have uninstall VS 2010 but this problem persist. This problem is not because of any virus. Any help to fix this or I have to re install Windows. Thanks.

  • Prevent CSS Validation for just 1 line

    I have a problem practically identical to this question, but I'm looking for a different solution. Instead of turning it off globally, I'd like to just disable it for a single line. I know I have seen many examples where various techniques are used to suppress different warnings, and I am looking for one that I can put in my CSS to suppress this one. Examples of ways to suppress warnings and such #pragma warning disable 659 or [SuppressMessage("Microsoft.Usage", "CA2214:DoNotCallOverridableMethodsInConstructors", Justification = "I have a good reason.")]. The CSS I want it to be quiet about has some CSS3 stuff in it which is why it's understandably complaining: .round { border-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; -moz-border-radius: 5px; } So any idea how to make my Error 1 Validation (CSS 2.1): 'border-radius' is not a known CSS property name error go away? I'd rather not lose all of my CSS validations but I do want it to ignore this one "problem".

    I need to build an AJAX application against our MS SQL Server database for my company. the app has to have user permissions and reporting and is pretty complex. I am really under the gun in terms of time. The company that I work for needs the app for an important project launch. A colleague/friend of mine in a different company recommended that I look at a product from Alpha Software called Alpha Five v10 with Codeless AJAX. He has told me that he has used it extensively and that it saves him a "serious boat load of time" and he says that he has not run into limitations because you can also write your own JavaScript or you wire in JQERY.   • problem running system.net.webclient and process.start off a control event

    The following code causes my vs 2008 wpf project to hang, I'm not sure why. Both Part 1 and Part 2 work perfectly fine independently, but when I run them together on an control event (click a button for example) the program hangs. I've also tried shell execute for part 2 - same results. However, this code when run within the form loaded event works fine. Any insights would be truly appreciated.   • % style macros not supported in some C++/CLI project property pages under VS2010?

    We're currently evaluating VS2010 and have upgraded our VS2008 C++/CLI project to the new .vcxproj format. I've noticed that a certain property we had set in the project settings did not get translated properly. Under Configuration Properties - Managed Resources - Resource Logical Name, we used to have (in VS2008) the setting: $(IntDir)\$(RootNamespace).$(InputName).resources which indicated that all .resx files were to compile into OurLib.SomeForm.resources inside of the assembly. (the Debug portion is dropped when assembled) According to MSDN, the $(InputName) macro no longer exists and should be replaced with %(Filename). However, when translating the above line to swap those macros, it does not seem to ever expand. The second .resx file it tries to compile, I get a "LINK : fatal error LNK1316: duplicate managed resource name 'Debug\OurLib.%(Filename).resources". This indicates to me that the % style macros are not being expanded here, at least in this specific property. If we don't set anything in that property, the default behavior seems to be to add the subdirectory as a prefix, such as: OurLib.Forms.SomeForm.resources where Forms is the subdir of our project that the .resx file lives. This only occurs when the .resx file is in an immediate subdirectory of the project being built. If a .resx file exists somewhere else on disk (aka ..\OtherLib\Forms\SomeForm2.resx) this prefix is NOT added. This is causing an issue with loading form resources, as it does not account for this possible prefix, even though we are using the standard Forms Designer method of getting at resources: System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager^ resources = (gcnew System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager(SomeForm::typeid)); and do not specify the .resources file by name. The issue I've just described may not be the same as the original question, but if I were to fix the Resource Logical Name issue I think this would all go away. Does anyone have any information about these % macros and where they are allowed to be used?

  • error C2065: 'CComQIPtr' : undeclared identifier

    I'm still feeling my way around C++, and am a complete ATL newbie, so I apologize if this is a basic question. I'm starting with an existing VC++ executable project that has functionality I'd like to expose as an ActiveX object (while sharing as much of the source as possible between the two projects). I've approached this by adding an ATL project to the solution in question, and in that project have referenced all the .h and .cpp files from the executable project, added all the appropriate references, and defined all the preprocessor macros. So far so good. But I'm getting a compiler error in one file (HideDesktop.cpp). (The ATL AX project, naturally enough, defines _ATL_DLL, but I can't see where that would make a difference.)   • Linking error while using Qt static built libraries

    I hope this is not a duplicate. Recently I'm developing a native C++ application using Qt 4.8.3 and VS2008. Since clients run the application on their naked machines, they need to install VC++ 2008 Redistribution package. So I decided to make it statically linked. I changed my project settings (C/C++ Code Generation Runtime Library) to /MTd. Also I compiled Qt again, this time using following commands for a static building; originally found on this blog Static Qt with static CRT (VS 2008) 1- replaced -MD with -MT in lines QMAKE_CFLAGS_RELEASE and QMAKE_CFLAGS_DEBUG in %QDIR%\mkspecs\win32-msvc2008\qmake.conf 2- nmake confclean 3- configure -static -platform win32-msvc2008 -no-webkit 4- nmake sub-src I compiled Qt successfully.   • How to reliably replace a library-defined error handler with my own?

    On certain error cases ATL invokes AtlThrow() which is implemented as ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which in turn throws CAtlException. The latter is not very good - CAtlException is not even derived from std::exception and also we use our own exceptions hierarchy and now we will have to catch CAtlException separately here and there which is lots of extra code and error-prone. Looks like it is possible to replace ATL::AtlThrowImpl() with my own handler - define _ATL_CUSTOM_THROW and define AtlThrow() to be the custom handler before including atlbase.h - and ATL will call the custom handler. Not so easy. Some of ATL code is not in sources - it comes compiled as a library - either static or dynamic. We use the static - atls.lib. And... it is compiled in such way that it has ATL::ThrowImpl() inside and some code calling it. I used a static analysis tool - it clearly shows that there're paths on which the old default handler is called. To ensure I even tried to "reimplement" ATL::AtlThrowImpl() in my code. Now the linker says it sees two declarations of ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which I suppose confirms that there's another implementation that can be called by some code. How can I handle this? How do I replace the default handler completely and ensure that the default handler is never called?

  • Test multiple domains using ASP.NET development server

    I am developing a single web application that will dynamically change its content depending on which domain name is used to reach the site. Multiple domains will point to the same application. I wish to use the following code (or something close) to detect the domain name and perform the customizations: string theDomainName = Request.Url.Host; switch (theDomainName) { case "www.clientone.com": // do stuff break; case "www.clienttwo.com": // do other stuff break; } I would like to test the functionality of the above using the ASP.NET development server. I created mappings in the local HOSTS file to map www.clientone.com to 127.0.0.1, and www.clienttwo.com to 127.0.0.1. I then browse to the application with the browser using www.clinetone.com (etc). When I try to test this code using the ASP.net development server the URL always says localhost. It does NOT capture the host entered in the browser, only localhost. Is there a way to test the URL detection functionality using the development server? Thanks.

  • web.config transforms not being applied on either publish or build installation package

    Today I started playing with the web.config transforms in VS 2010. To begin with, I attempted the same hello world example that features in a lot of the blog posts on this topic - updating a connection string. I created the minimal example shown below (and similar to the one found in this blog). The problem is that whenever I do a right-click - "Publish", or a right-click - "Build Deployment Package" on the .csproj file, I'm not getting the correct output. Rather than a transformed web.config, I'm getting no web.config, and instead the two transform files are included. What am I doing wrong? Any help gratefully received! An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?)". I don't know why. Previous I used VisualStudio 2010 but my trial has expired. Is there any hope to run this on SharpDevelop?

  • Mouse configurable buttons for programming

    Different mouse models has been already discussed. But all these mouse got configurable buttons. Has a programmer, how do you set them? I use The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. So set the Left side button to "Copy" and the Right side button to "Paste". I did not set the Wheel click to anything. I'm curious to see if there is any better setup? UPDATE : I'm trying to find some interesting key I could map to my mouse buttons. Copy & paste are the best I' found so far, but i just want to know if there is something that could be more useful when programming.

  • Strange behaviour with Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms

    I have a Windows Mobile application in which I want to check the device orientation. Therefore I wrote the following property in one of my forms: internal static Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms.ScreenOrientation DeviceOriginalOrientation { get; private set; } The strange thing is that after that whenever I open a UserControl, the designer shows this warning even if that UserControl doesn't use the property: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=969db8053d3322ac' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) Commenting the above property will dismiss the warning and shows the user control again. The application is built successfully and runs without any problems in both cases. Does anybody know why this happens and how can I fix it?
