  • ubuntu 12.04 kvm virtual server network setup, can't get the machine to be connectable

    - by xyious
    I have worked on my Ubuntu Server host for weeks now and I just can not manage to get the virtual machines into the network.... here's what I need to do: I need to be able to create virtual machines that have IP addresses that can be reached from the outside (192.168 network). I need to be able to connect to the virtual machines through ssh, ftp, http and preferably https, anything else doesn't matter that much. So far everything seems simple enough and I have a lot of leeway in terms of IP address range and server/client configuration. I have the option of taking part of a /24 net as most IPs aren't used, and if it's absolutely necessary I have the option of creating a new /24 subnet. Also have the option of reformatting and reinstalling OS on the host and recreating the virtual machines as nothing has been done other than trying to get virtual machines to work. I would prefer if the virtual machines were just part of the normal network which would be 192.168.5.0/24. The host machine has 2 network cards so I don't even necessarily need the Host to be connectable in the same /24 network. I have tried (I think) just about everything from about 5 different tutorials on bridging (giving br0 the same IP that eth0 used to have (Host is able to connect to VM and vice versa, VM doesn't have outside network access), having eth0 set up like it always was and having br0 have a different IP (same as above), NAT with port forwarding (which I would have preferred not to use but will if it works), turning off one of the hosts network cards and just using one of them, different subnets.... etc. I do know my way around iptables fairly well.... Host is 64bit Ubuntu Server 12.04, using libvirt/kvm. edits: Local network is 192.168.5.0/24, host has static ip 192.168.5.254, GW .5.1 which is also nameserver. We have a second Local network at 192.168.10.0/24 with .10.1 GW, but both hosts and VMs were supposed to go into the .5 subnet. The .10 subnet isn't required, but it wouldn't be horrible if the Host were only accessible in the .10 subnet.

  • Can I split one ethernet line coming out of my wall into multiple separate lines?

    - by Burteçin 'Turk' Sapta
    Hi all and thanks in advance. I'll start with some background. I live in an apartment which provides internet service included in the rent. They use company called pavlov for the internet http://pavlovmedia.net/ wireless seems to be working fine but wired connection is at least %30 faster. Ethernet, cat5 outlet is built in the wall, and there is only 1 outlet in each room. I would like to take this 1 outlet coming out the wall and multiply it into 4 wires, for desktop, playstation, tv and laptop without loosing any internet bandwidth. i have absolutely no idea weather this line is coming from a switch or a router but i have been researching Ethernet splitter, routers, switches, hubs and haven't found a solid answer. what is the best solution for me? thank you once again! EDIT: ok this picture cleared few things http://www.home-network-help.com/images/home-network-expanded.jpg so seems that an ethernet switch is to ethernet as a USB hub is to USB. what is really 10/100Mbps Network Switch and what is the cap?

  • Create a wifi hotspot in a place where an authentication is required [closed]

    - by SoftTimur
    I live in a residence where Internet is provided via cable. Once the computer is connected to the cable, launching a browser will trigger an authentication, I have a username and password to enter, then the internet will be connected. With a gateway (e.g. Wireless Cable Voice Gateway Model CBVG834G) and 2 cables, two PCs can connect to the Internet with my account at the same time. Now the question is, I don't like the cable, and would like to create a wifi hotspot. It seems realizable with the same gateway. According to the instruction on page 2-4 of the manual: Enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address field of your Internet browser. Log in to the gateway with either of the default user names, MSO or admin... However, trying to open 192.168.0.1 gives me an error on the browser. Does anyone know what happened? Is it due to the authentication required by my residence? Is there any other way to build a hotspot of wifi? PS: My system is MAC OS

  • Will the removal of NAT (with the use of IPv6) be bad for consumers? [closed]

    - by Jonathan.
    Possible Duplicate: How will IPv6 impact everyday users? (World IPv6 Day) As I understand when we have finally made the switch to IPv6 not only will NAT be unnecessary but it is incompatible with IPv6? Will that mean that ISPs will have to serve multiple IP addresses per customer? Will they provide a range of addresses for each customer or as each device connects will they get an IP address that isn't necessarily near that of the other devices in their house? But overall will this be bad for the Internet users? as surely it will allow ISPs to see exactly how many devices are being used, and so allow them to charge for the use of additional IP addresses? And then if that happens, what happens when you try to connect an extra device to your network? Will it simply not get an IP address? In my home we have about 15-20 devices connected at once, but for places where there are hundreds of devices, it seems like the perfect opportunity for ISPs to charge more? I think I may have it completely wrong, so is there somewhere where there is an explanation of who things will work when IPv6 becomes the norm?

  • Windows 7 system freezes: would like to know if they could be related to MrxSmb, Event ID 8003 errors

    - by lifegoeson
    First, this question centers around a home network. Is it okay to ask here? Or should I go to SuperUser? (I see less answers over there, but I'll go there if that would be more appropriate.) Network setup: 1 Machine running XP Pro 1 Machine running Win7 Ultimate Comcast router Linksys WRT610N Wireless router The Win7 machine goes into a total, unrecoverable system freeze frequently. I was tearing out my hair trying to ascertain a cause, but I noticed that it usually seems to correspond with performing operations on the shared folders on the XP machine. The last 2 occasions that the Win7 machine froze, I saw this entry for Event ID 8003 from source MrxSmb in the Event log of the XP machine: The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer WIN7_COMPUTER that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{320B32A7-FED9. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced. My question is twofold: Could this cause a Win7 system freeze? If so, what could I configure differently on my network to stop these conflicts over who is the master browser? Thank you for your help!

  • Cannot connect to a shared network drive

    - by dublintech
    I am using windows 7, I cannot connect to a shared network drive on another machine. I can ping the machine. I can remote desktop connect to the machine. The machine is on the same subnet My friend with the exact same laptop as me (and on the same network, same workgroup) can connect to the shared folder. The machine I am trying to connect to and my friends machine can both see shared folders on my machine. I also cannot see shared folders on the friends laptop. When I select diagnose, windows tells me nothing useful. When I select see details on the error pop up, I see: Error code: 0x80004005 (google doesn't help much) I can nbtstat -a the machine who has the shared folder. When I try with my firewall turned off the same happens. I have ensured my windows 7 has all updates. I run security essentials to ensure my laptop is clean. I run ccleaner to clean up my registry. Same error. I have tried with my laptop on both wireless and ethernet. As you can imagine, I am banging my head against the wall on this one.

  • Compare cells in two different spreadsheets and extract data from one an place it in the other if match found

    - by Fergie
    I need to find a way to compare two spreadsheets and if there is a match on specific cells, pull data from one sheet to another. Say the two spreadsheets contain a value that identifies a piece of equipment: spreadsheet 1 spreadsheet 2 Server Server Serial # 123abc 123abc 123-xx-456 There are of course many, many records/rows in each sheet. I need to look at the first cell in the server column of sheet 1 and then search a range of cells in the sever column of sheet 2 for a match. If there is a match, I need to pull the serial # value from the cell in the matching row an put it into the serial # cell of the matching row in sheet 1 (all of the "serial #" cells in sheet 1 are presently empty.) If that description explaination is too convoluted I can explain by answering any questions you may have. My deadline for this task is Noon tomorrow, 30 Aug 2012. Yes, I got the task today at noon.... I am not an Excel user and just get thrust into it on occassion... Any help would be a huge assist.

  • How can I assign DHCP leases from a script?

    - by devicenull
    I have an environment where there is one DHCP server servicing a number of different hosts/vlans. The switches are configured to forward the DHCP requests over (via ip-helper) and include information about the port (option 82). I'd like to take that information and translate it into an actual lease for the server. I don't think it's particularly feasible for me to pregenerate a list of available leases, but I should be able to determine an address for a lease as it comes in. Is there an DHCP server that can execute a script when it receives a request? (Note: I'm looking to assign the IP from the script, not have the DHCP server assign an IP then execute the script) Edit: So, ultimately I'm trying to provide DHCP/PXE services over a large number of distinct vlans. This is so we can do OS installs via PXE booting without having to have a separate PXE vlan. I've got the switch config down no problem, and I have the DHCP server recognizing option 82. I need a way to pull DHCP assignments from another system (this other system would know what subnet to use on what vlan), but I do not want to have to pregenerate a list of vlan:DHCP range pairs.

  • Comparing 128MB GeForce 8600GT and 512MB Radeon X1650

    - by Synetech inc.
    Hi, I'm trying to determine which is the better of these two video cards: 128MB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT card while the other has a 512MB ATI Radeon X1650 card. Both cards are the upper-level mid-range versions of their respective series. On the one hand, the ATI has substantially more VRAM, but the Nvidia supports D3D 10 and SM4.0 as opposed to D3D 9.0c/SM3.0 that the ATI supports. Also, I have always heard better things about Nvidia cards compared to ATI cards. I'm trying to find some advice on which one is better, but I can't find any actual comparisons or anything for these specific cards (the comparisons I can find are only similar ones like the X1650 Pro or 8600GT PCI-E), so I figure that what I need to know is whether the extra VRAM is that important. Looking at the ATI table and the Nvidia table seems to indicate that the Nvidia is better, but then again, the Nvidia table also says that the GeForce 8600GT is a PCI-E card with at least 256MB even though the card in question is an AGP with 128MB. (:-?) (It looks like the ATI card is not supported in Windows 7 while the Nvidia card is, which I suppose is also a factor, though not quite as immediately relevant as performance.) Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

  • How do I disable DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleration on Windows 8? [closed]

    - by Favourite Chigozie Onwuemene
    Some old games that i would really like to play run slowly on some graphic drivers when direct3d acceleration is enabled. I have tried many suggestions but none seems to work. The only thing i have not tried is disabling direct3d acceleration. Is it possible to disable DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleration on my Windows 8 pc? There are certain bad versions of GeForce drivers that cause this problem. This is a problem in the drivers themselves and is unfortunately completely outside our control. The recommended way to fix this problem is to update your graphics card drivers (go to NVIDIA's web site for this). Alternatively, there is a workaround that alleviates or solves the slowdown problem altogether. Try this: Right-click on your desktop and select "Properties". Go to the "Settings" tab and click on "Advanced...". Click on the "Troubleshooting" tab and move the slider to the left until it says that all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations have been disabled (around the middle of the range). Finally, click on "OK". Note that this workaround might cause other games on your computer to slow down, so you may have to switch back and forth between settings, but it's certainly worth a try if you can't obtain an updated graphics driver. -source: interactionstudios

  • Allow more websocket connections

    - by Switz
    I want to load balance my node.js (DerbyJS to be specific) application on a basic Linode (512MB ram). It can probably take more than one process running at once. The querys/database does not concern me as I'm not doing anything intensive. The problem at the moment is that it can only handle up to ~40 websocket connections at once. I would love if I could get that number in the few hundred+ range. I anticipate a lot of traffic on launch due to the fact that it's a highly niche community with an engaged audience, but after it should be fine with just ~20-40 connections at once, which it handles perfectly as of now. I don't mind spending a bit of money for a week or two worth of running, but I also don't want to switch production environments. How can I test the process to see how many instances I am able to run on the box? Will increasing the number of processes increase the amount of websockets I can handle, or is that a limitation of the server's network? I have an old Macbook Pro running Linux sitting next to me that has 2GB ram and a 2.8 Dual Core Processor. Could I use this to handle some of the extra load? I could probably load balance with nginx to its IP. I'm on a FiOS home network. If you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

  • Configuring two subnets with two NICS. Access from a NAS to the internet

    - by archipestre
    I am having trouble configuring my NAS. I have a DSL router with WIFI (192.168.1.1) in my flatmates room. In my room I have a server with two NICS: 1) wlan0 (192.168.1.2) that connects to the DSL router via wireless 2) em1 (192.168.0.1) that connects to the NAS (192.168.0.20) with a crossover cable. I have Fedora 17 and I have enable packet forwarding. My IP configuration is as follows: WLAN0 inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 EM1 inet 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 My routing table looks like: Destination Gateway G enmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 wlan0 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 em1 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0 I have enable a static route in the DSL server: Status Network Destination Subnet Mask Interface Gateway Remove Edit Active 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 LAN 192.168.1.2 From my server I can ping the DSL router and the NAS. From the NAS I can ping both NICS of the server. However the NAS is unable to ping the DSL router or any address in the Internet. Any idea of what is wrong. Thank you in advance

  • System requirements for running windows 8 (basic office use) in virtualbox (ubuntu as host os)

    - by Tor Thommesen
    I want to run windows 8 as a guest os with virtualbox on some thinkpad (haven't bought one yet) running Ubuntu 12.04. Apart from virtualizing windows 8 (mostly just for use with the office suite app) my needs are very modest, I don't need much more than emacs and a browser. What I'd like to know is what kind of specs will be necessary to run windows 8 well as a vm, using the office apps. It would be a shame to waste money on overpowered hardware. Are there any official guidelines from oracle or windows on this? Would this lenovo x220, for example, be sufficiently strong? The specs below were taken from this review. Intel Core i5-2520M dual-core processor (2.5GHz, 3MB cache, 3.2GHz Turbo frequency) Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) 12.5-inch Premium HD (1366 x 768) LED Backlit Display (IPS) Intel Integrated HD Graphics 4GB DDR3 (1333MHz) 320GB Hitachi Travelstar hard drive (Z7K320) Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (Taylor Peak) 2x2 AGN wireless card Intel 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet 720p High Definition webcam Fingerprint reader 6-cell battery (63Wh) and optional slice battery (65Wh) Dimensions: 12 (L) x 8.2 (W) x 0.5-1.5 (H) inches with 6-cell battery Weight: 3.5 pounds with 6-cell battery 4.875 pounds with 6-cell battery and optional external battery slice Price as configured: $1,299.00 (starting at $979.00)

  • Building a small server farm

    - by RayQuang
    Hi, I am planning to set up a Tech startup company that will provide web application solutions. Eventually we hope to diversify into different areas such as possibly social media or other services. For now we plan on running a high demand (from 1000 to 10,000 users in the first year) website running the application. This includes a MySQL database backend, email, and development servers. My question is then, what type of server arrangement will work best, that is ti say should i have a small cluster of ultra high power machines (E.G. Top of the range Xeons, with 12GB RAM) or will it be better to have more less powerful servers load balanced? Should I go for 1 - 2 u servers rack mounted ot would it be beter for it just to be tower servers for maintainability? Finally I would also like to know what kind of Internet and router i would need, I currently have 10mbit down and barely 1 mbit up, but soon our area will have a fiber optic connection with international speeds of up to 25 mbit / sec. Thanks in advance, RayQuang UPDATE: sorry I forgot to mention it, the platform that I will be using is PHP with the APC code cache, Probably running Debian.

  • what is best multi-server configuration with OpenVPN

    - by sebut
    We have a number of Database severs running MongoDB on Debian plus a number of Application servers also on Debian. The db servers hold replicating db clusters, so they need to talk to each other. Application servers need to talk to all db servers (for reasons of fault tolerance). The servers are potentially spread across multiple hosting centers, so we need secure channels between all servers. The number of servers is bound to grow, so we need a VPN solution that's easy to maintain and expand. This is why I feel that SSH that we use for testing might not be up to the task and OpenVPN seems the way to go. I have ruled out TAP, since I understand that this would mean all traffic going to all the servers - perhaps this is a misunderstanding and TAP acts more like a switch? With TUN devices I imagine that all DB servers would live in their own separate subnet, they would also need a client configured to be able to connect to each of their peers. The application servers could live in a common subnet range with a client config only. Does this sound like a reasonable setup? Strangely, on the web I did not find anything about multi-server with OpenVPN. Thanks for all insights and ideas!

  • SSH access to VM on windows 8 hyper-v

    - by samw
    I'm currently attending University and prefer a Linux environment to do much of my work, but all I have is a ThinkPad running Windows 8 Pro. Cygwin is nice, but it leaves me missing things like apt-get. My latest solution is to run an Ubuntu 12.04 VM with Windows 8's Client Hyper-V and use Cygwin for SSH access. I've looked everywhere online trying to set this up, but I haven't found much help. I've done this before using VirtualBox, so I figured this would be possible as well. Could anyone provide advice for setting up this environment? I'm completely uninitiated to Linux networking, virtual networking, and... pretty much all networking configuration, so this has been quite a challenge for me. What I've done so far: Created an external virtual switch to my wireless NIC. With this, I could successfully SSH to the VM with the leased IP address. But without a static IP, I would soon get disconnected. Created an internal virtual switch and attempt to "share" my main internet connection. (I was following the description on this page) Thank you all in advance!

    I'm having a slightly odd situation with an XSL template. Most of it outputs fine, but a certain for-each loop is causing me problems. Here's the XML: <area> <feature type="Hall"> <Heading><![CDATA[Hall]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[Communal gardens, pathway leading to PVCu double glazed communal front door to]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Entrance Hall"> <Heading><![CDATA[Communal Entrance Hall]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[Plain ceiling, centre light fitting, fire door through to inner hallway, wood and glazed panelled front door to]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Inner Hall"> <Heading><![CDATA[Inner Hall]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[Plain ceiling with pendant light fitting and covings, security telephone, airing cupboard housing gas boiler serving domestic hot water and central heating, telephone point, storage cupboard housing gas and electric meters, wooden panelled doors off to all rooms.]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Lounge (Reception)" width="3.05" length="4.57" units="metre"> <Heading><![CDATA[Lounge (Reception)]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[15' 6" x 10' 7" (4.72m x 3.23m) Window to the side and rear elevation, papered ceiling with pendant light fitting and covings, two double panelled radiators, power points, wall mounted security entry phone, TV aerial point.]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Kitchen" width="3.05" length="3.66" units="metre"> <Heading><![CDATA[Kitchen]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[12' x 10' (3.66m x 3.05m) Double glazed window to the rear elevation, textured ceiling with strip lighting, range of base and wall units in Beech with brushed aluminium handles, co-ordinated working surfaces with inset stainless steel sink with mixer taps over, co-ordinated tiled splashbacks, gas and electric cooker points, large storage cupboard with shelving, power points.]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Entrance Porch"> <Heading><![CDATA[Balcony]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[Views across the communal South facing garden, wrought iron balustrade.]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Bedroom" width="3.35" length="3.96" units="metre"> <Heading><![CDATA[Bedroom One]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[13' 6" x 11' 5" (4.11m x 3.48m) Double glazed windows to the front and side elevations, papered ceiling with pendant light fittings and covings, single panelled radiator, power points, telephone point, security entry phone.]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="Bedroom" width="3.05" length="3.35" units="metre"> <Heading><![CDATA[Bedroom Two]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[11' 4" x 10' 1" (3.45m x 3.07m) Double glazed window to the front elevation, plain ceiling with centre light fitting and covings, power points.]]></Para> </feature> <feature type="bathroom"> <Heading><![CDATA[Bathroom]]></Heading> <Para><![CDATA[Obscure double glazed window to the rear elevation, textured ceiling with centre light fitting and extractor fan, suite in white comprising of low level WC, wall mounted wash hand basin and walk in shower housing 'Triton T80' electric shower, co-ordinated tiled splashbacks.]]></Para> </feature> </area> And here's the section of my template that processes it: <xsl:for-each select="area"> <li> <xsl:for-each select="feature"> <li> <h5> <xsl:value-of select="Heading"/> </h5> <xsl:value-of select="Para"/> </li> </xsl:for-each> </li> </xsl:for-each> And here's the output: Hall Communal gardens, pathway leading to PVCu double glazed communal front door to Communal Entrance Hall Plain ceiling, centre light fitting, fire door through to inner hallway, wood and glazed panelled front door to Inner Hall Plain ceiling with pendant light fitting and covings, security telephone, airing cupboard housing gas boiler serving domestic hot water and central heating, telephone point, storage cupboard housing gas and electric meters, wooden panelled doors off to all rooms. • parallelizing code using openmp

    - by anubhav
    Hi, The function below contains nested for loops. There are 3 of them. I have given the whole function below for easy understanding. I want to parallelize the code in the innermost for loop as it takes maximum CPU time. Then i can think about outer 2 for loops. I can see dependencies and internal inline functions in the innermost for loop . Can the innermost for loop be rewritten to enable parallelization using openmp pragmas. Please tell how. I am writing just the loop which i am interested in first and then the full function where this loop exists for referance. Interested in parallelizing the loop mentioned below. //* LOOP WHICH I WANT TO PARALLELIZE *// for (y = 0; y < 4; y++) { refptr = PelYline_11 (ref_pic, abs_y++, abs_x, img_height, img_width); LineSadBlk0 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk0 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk0 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk0 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk1 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk1 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk1 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk1 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk2 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk2 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk2 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk2 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk3 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk3 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk3 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; LineSadBlk3 += byte_abs [*refptr++ - *orgptr++]; } The full function where this loop exists is below for referance. /*! *********************************************************************** * \brief * Setup the fast search for an macroblock *********************************************************************** */ void SetupFastFullPelSearch (short ref, int list) // <-- reference frame parameter, list0 or 1 { short pmv[2]; pel_t orig_blocks[256], *orgptr=orig_blocks, *refptr, *tem; // created pointer tem int offset_x, offset_y, x, y, range_partly_outside, ref_x, ref_y, pos, abs_x, abs_y, bindex, blky; int LineSadBlk0, LineSadBlk1, LineSadBlk2, LineSadBlk3; int max_width, max_height; int img_width, img_height; StorablePicture *ref_picture; pel_t *ref_pic; int** block_sad = BlockSAD[list][ref][7]; int search_range = max_search_range[list][ref]; int max_pos = (2*search_range+1) * (2*search_range+1); int list_offset = ((img->MbaffFrameFlag)&&(img->mb_data[img->current_mb_nr].mb_field))?   • Trouble passing a template function as an argument to another function in C++

    - by Darel
    Source of the problem -Accelerated C++, problem 8-5 I've written a small program that examines lines of string input, and tallies the number of times a word appears on a given line. The following code accomplishes this: #include <map> #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <list> #include <cctype> #include <iterator> using std::vector; using std::string; using std::cin; using std::cout; using std::endl; using std::getline; using std::istream; using std::string; using std::list; using std::map; using std::isspace; using std::ostream_iterator; using std::allocator; inline void keep_window_open() { cin.clear(); cout << "Please enter EOF to exit\n"; char ch; cin >> ch; return; } template <class Out> void split(const string& s, Out os) { vector<string> ret; typedef string::size_type string_size; string_size i = 0; // invariant: we have processed characters `['original value of `i', `i)' while (i != s.size()) { // ignore leading blanks // invariant: characters in range `['original `i', current `i)' are all spaces while (i != s.size() && isspace(s[i])) ++i; // find end of next word string_size j = i; // invariant: none of the characters in range `['original `j', current `j)' is a space while (j != s.size() && !isspace(s[j])) ++j; // if we found some nonwhitespace characters if (i != j) { // copy from `s' starting at `i' and taking `j' `\-' `i' chars *os++ = (s.substr(i, j - i)); i = j; } } } // find all the lines that refer to each word in the input map<string, vector<int> > xref(istream& in) // works // now try to pass the template function as an argument to function - what do i put for templated type? //map<string, vector<int> > xref(istream& in, void find_words(vector<string, typedef Out) = split) #LINE 1# { string line; int line_number = 0; map<string, vector<int> > ret; // read the next line while (getline(in, line)) { ++line_number; // break the input line into words vector<string> words; // works // #LINE 2# split(line, back_inserter(words)); // #LINE 3# //find_words(line, back_inserter(words)); // #LINE 4# attempting to use find_words as an argument to function // remember that each word occurs on the current line for (vector<string>::const_iterator it = words.begin(); it != words.end(); ++it) ret[*it].push_back(line_number); } return ret; } int main() { cout << endl << "Enter lines of text, followed by EOF (^Z):" << endl; // call `xref' using `split' by default map<string, vector<int> > ret = xref(cin); // write the results for (map<string, vector<int> >::const_iterator it = ret.begin(); it != ret.end(); ++it) { // write the word cout << it->first << " occurs on line(s): "; // followed by one or more line numbers vector<int>::const_iterator line_it = it->second.begin(); cout << *line_it; // write the first line number ++line_it; // write the rest of the line numbers, if any while (line_it != it->second.end()) { cout << ", " << *line_it; ++line_it; } // write a new line to separate each word from the next cout << endl; } keep_window_open(); return 0; } As you can see, the split function is a template function to handle various types of output iterators as desired. My problem comes when I try to generalize the xref function by passing in the templated split function as an argument. I can't seem to get the type correct. So my question is, can you pass a template function to another function as an argument, and if so, do you have to declare all types before passing it? Or can the compiler infer the types from the way the templated function is used in the body? To demonstrate the errors I get, comment out the existing xref function header, and uncomment the alternate header I'm trying to get working (just below the following commment line.) Also comment the lines tagged LINE 2 and LINE 3 and uncomment LINE 4, which is attempting to use the argument find_words (which defaults to split.) Thanks for any feedback!

  • PHP 'Years' array

    - by J M 4
    I am trying to create an array for years which i will use in the DOB year piece of a form I am building. Currently, I know there are two ways to handle the issue but I don't really care for either: 1) Range: I know I can create a year array using the following <?php $year = range(1910,date("Y")); $_SESSION['years_arr'] = $year; ?> the problem with Point 1 is two fold: a) my function call shows the first year as 'selected' instead of "Year" as I have as option="0", and b) I want the years reversed so 2010 is the first in the least and shown decreasing. My function call is: PHP <?php function showOptionsDrop($array, $active, $echo=true){ $string = ''; foreach($array as $k => $v){ $s = ($active == $k)? ' selected="selected"' : ''; $string .= '<option value="'.$k.'"'.$s.'>'.$v.'</option>'."\n"; } if($echo) echo $string; else return $string; } ?> HTML <table> <tr> <td>State:</td> <td><select name="F1State"><option value="0">Choose a year</option><?php showOptionsDrop($_SESSION['years_arr'], null, true); ?></select> </td> </tr> </table> 2) Long Array I know i can physically create an array with years listed out but this takes up a lot of space and time if I ever want to go back and modify. ex: PHP $years = array('1900'=>"1900", '1901'=>"1901", '1902'=>"1902", '1903'=>"1903", '1904'=>"1904", '1905'=>"1905", '1906'=>"1906", '1907'=>"1907", '1908'=>"1908", '1909'=>"1909", '1910'=>"1910", '1911'=>"1911", '1912'=>"1912", '1913'=>"1913", '1914'=>"1914", '1915'=>"1915", '1916'=>"1916", '1917'=>"1917", '1918'=>"1918", '1919'=>"1919", '1920'=>"1920", '1921'=>"1921", '1922'=>"1922", '1923'=>"1923", '1924'=>"1924", '1925'=>"1925", '1926'=>"1926", '1927'=>"1927", '1928'=>"1928", '1929'=>"1929", '1930'=>"1930", '1931'=>"1931", '1932'=>"1932", '1933'=>"1933", '1934'=>"1934", '1935'=>"1935", '1936'=>"1936", '1937'=>"1937", '1938'=>"1938", '1939'=>"1939", '1940'=>"1940", '1941'=>"1941", '1942'=>"1942", '1943'=>"1943", '1944'=>"1944", '1945'=>"1945", '1946'=>"1946", '1947'=>"1947", '1948'=>"1948", '1949'=>"1949", '1950'=>"1950", '1951'=>"1951", '1952'=>"1952", '1953'=>"1953", '1954'=>"1954", '1955'=>"1955", '1956'=>"1956", '1957'=>"1957", '1958'=>"1958", '1959'=>"1959", '1960'=>"1960", '1961'=>"1961", '1962'=>"1962", '1963'=>"1963", '1964'=>"1964", '1965'=>"1965", '1966'=>"1966", '1967'=>"1967", '1968'=>"1968", '1969'=>"1969", '1970'=>"1970", '1971'=>"1971", '1972'=>"1972", '1973'=>"1973", '1974'=>"1974", '1975'=>"1975", '1976'=>"1976", '1977'=>"1977", '1978'=>"1978", '1979'=>"1979", '1980'=>"1980", '1981'=>"1981", '1982'=>"1982", '1983'=>"1983", '1984'=>"1984", '1985'=>"1985", '1986'=>"1986", '1987'=>"1987", '1988'=>"1988", '1989'=>"1989", '1990'=>"1990", '1991'=>"1991", '1992'=>"1992", '1993'=>"1993", '1994'=>"1994", '1995'=>"1995", '1996'=>"1996", '1997'=>"1997", '1998'=>"1998", '1999'=>"1999", '2000'=>"2000", '2001'=>"2001", '2002'=>"2002", '2003'=>"2003", '2004'=>"2004", '2005'=>"2005", '2006'=>"2006", '2007'=>"2007", '2008'=>"2008", '2009'=>"2009", '2010'=>"2010"); $_SESSION['years_arr'] = $years_arr; Does anybody have a recommended idea how to work - or just how to simply modify my existing code? But the present result is very strange: everything works and in DEBUG mode I get 3d model is ready! from setContent(), and then unexpected ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: File readed Initialization of Mesh's arrays Applying Mesh's arrays Initialization of the material Setting the MeshView Adding to 3D scene 3D model is ready! java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Array index out of range: 32252 at com.sun.javafx.collections.ObservableFloatArrayImpl.rangeCheck(ObservableFloatArrayImpl.java:276) at com.sun.javafx.collections.ObservableFloatArrayImpl.get(ObservableFloatArrayImpl.java:184) at javafx.scene.shape.TriangleMesh.computeBounds(TriangleMesh.java:262) at javafx.scene.shape.MeshView.impl_computeGeomBounds(MeshView.java:151) at javafx.scene.Node.updateGeomBounds(Node.java:3497) at javafx.scene.Node.getGeomBounds(Node.java:3450) at javafx.scene.Node.getLocalBounds(Node.java:3432) at javafx.scene.Node.updateTxBounds(Node.java:3510) at javafx.scene.Node.getTransformedBounds(Node.java:3350) at javafx.scene.Node.updateBounds(Node.java:516) at javafx.scene.Parent.updateBounds(Parent.java:1668) at javafx.scene.SubScene.updateBounds(SubScene.java:556) at javafx.scene.Parent.updateBounds(Parent.java:1668) at javafx.scene.Parent.updateBounds(Parent.java:1668) at javafx.scene.Parent.updateBounds(Parent.java:1668) at javafx.scene.Parent.updateBounds(Parent.java:1668) at javafx.scene.Parent.updateBounds(Parent.java:1668) at javafx.scene.Scene$ScenePulseListener.pulse(Scene.java:2309) at com.sun.javafx.tk.Toolkit.firePulse(Toolkit.java:329) at com.sun.javafx.tk.quantum.QuantumToolkit.pulse(QuantumToolkit.java:479) at com.sun.javafx.tk.quantum.QuantumToolkit.pulse(QuantumToolkit.java:459) at com.sun.javafx.tk.quantum.QuantumToolkit$13.run(QuantumToolkit.java:326) at com.sun.glass.ui.InvokeLaterDispatcher$Future.run(InvokeLaterDispatcher.java:95) at com.sun.glass.ui.win.WinApplication._runLoop(Native Method) at com.sun.glass.ui.win.WinApplication.access$300(WinApplication.java:39) at com.sun.glass.ui.win.WinApplication$3$1.run(WinApplication.java:101) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:724) Exception in thread "JavaFX Application Thread" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Array index out of range: 32252 at com.sun.javafx.collections.ObservableFloatArrayImpl.rangeCheck(ObservableFloatArrayImpl.java:276) at com.sun.javafx.collections.ObservableFloatArrayImpl.get(ObservableFloatArrayImpl.java:184) The stranger thing is that this stack doesn't stop until I close the program. And moreover it doesn't point to any my array. What is this? And why does it happen?

  • Need help displaying a table dynamically based on a drop down date selection

    - by Gideon
    I am designing a job rota planner for a company and need help displaying a dynamic table containing the staff details. I have the following tables in MySQL database: Staff, Event, and Job. The staff table holds staff details (staffed, name, address...etc), the Event table (eventide, eventName, Fromdate, Todate...etc) and the Job table holds (Jobid, Jobdate, Eventid(fk), Staffid (fk)). I need to dynamically display the available staff list from the staff table when the user selects the event and the date (3 drop downs: date, month, and year) from a PHP form. I need to display staff members that have not been assigned work on the selected date by checking the Jobdate in the Job table. I have been at this for all day and can't get around it. I am still learning PHP and would surely appreciate any help I can get. My current code displays all staff members when an event is selected: //Create the day pull-down menu. $days = range (1, 31); echo "<Select Name=day Value=''><Option>Day</option>"; foreach ($days as $value) { echo '<option value="'.$value.'">'.$value.'</option>\n'; } echo "</Select>"; echo "</td><td>"; //Create the month pull-down menu echo "<Select Name=month Value=''><Option>Month</option>"; echo "<option value='01'>Jan</option>"; echo "<option value='02'>Feb</option>"; echo "<option value='03'>Mar</option>"; echo "<option value='04'>Apr</option>"; echo "<option value='05'>May</option>"; echo "<option value='06'>Jun</option>"; echo "<option value='07'>Jul</option>"; echo "<option value='08'>Aug</option>"; echo "<option value='09'>Sep</option>"; echo "<option value='10'>Oct</option>"; echo "<option value='11'>Nov</option>"; echo "<option value='12'>Dec</option>"; echo "</select>"; echo "</td><td>"; //Create the year pull-down menu $currentYear = date ("Y"); $years = range ($currentYear, 2020); echo "<Select Name=year Value=''><Option>Year</option>"; foreach ($years as $value) { echo '<option value="'.$value.'">'.$value.'</option>\n'; } echo "</Select>"; echo "</td></tr></table>"; echo "</td><td>"; //echo "<img src='../ETMSimages/etms_staff.png'</img></td><td>"; //construct the available staff list $staffsql = "SELECT StaffId, LastName, FirstName FROM Staff order by StaffId"; $staffResult = mysql_query($staffsql); if ($staffResult){ echo "<p><table cellspacing='1' cellpadding='3'>"; echo "<th colspan=6>List of Available Staff</th>"; echo "</tr><tr><th> Select</th><th>Id</th><th></th><th>Last Name </th><th></th><th>First Name </th></tr>"; while ($staffarray = mysql_fetch_array($staffResult)) { echo "<tr onMouseOver= this.bgColor = 'red' onMouseOut =this.bgColor = 'white' bgcolor= '#FFFFFF'> <td align=center><input type='checkbox' name='selectbox[]' id='selectbox[]' value=".$staffarray['StaffId']."> </td><td align=left>".$staffarray['StaffId']." </td><td>&nbsp&nbsp</td><td align=center>".$staffarray['LastName']." </td><td>&nbsp&nbsp</td><td align=center>".$staffarray['FirstName']." </td></tr>"; } echo "</table>"; } else { echo "<br> The Staff list can not be displayed!"; } echo "</td></tr>"; echo "<tr><td></td>"; echo "<td align=center><input type='submit' name='Submit' value='Assign Staff'>&nbsp&nbsp"; echo "<input type='reset' value='Start Over'>"; echo "</td></tr>"; echo "</table>";
