  • Any disadvantages to this tagging approach

    - by donpal
I have a table of tags ID tag --- ------ 1 tagt 2 tagb 3 tagz 4 tagn In my items table, I'm using those tags in serialized format, comma delimited ID field1 tags ---- ------ ----- 1 value1 tagt, tagb 2 value2 tagb 3 value3 tagb, tagn 4 value4 When I need to find items that have this tag, I plan to deserialize the tags. But I'm not actually sure how to do it, and if it's better to have a third table for associations instead between the tags and the items.

  • Is this the right way to organize my database tables?

    - by Moss
So I'm making a website that allows users to build contact lists. So their are users, the users have lists, and the lists have contacts. It seems to me that I need 3 tables for this but I just want to make sure. There would be a User table of course, and then a "List of Lists" table that has the username, and listname, as primary key along with whatever other info we want to attach to the lists as a whole. Finally, for lack of a better word, the List table which would again have the username/listname p.k., then the contact ID and notes and such that the user attaches to that contact on that specific list. I hope that is a clear explanation. For some reason I feel unsure about this arrangement. For one thing if the website becomes popular the List table could swell to billions of rows. And it also feels a little weird that everybody's list info is all jumbled up in the same table. I suppose I could create separate tables for each user and even for each list but that seems like a bad idea for other reasons. My db explanation assumes I can use foreign keys on my tables which at the moment isn't actually an option. If I can't get InnoDB tables enabled I will probably use ID's for the lists instead of depending on a compound key. Maybe I should do this anyway?

  • Transaction on Entity FrameWork Refactoring and best performance how can i?

    - by programmerist
i try to use transaction in Entity FrameWork. i have 3 tables Personel, Prim, Finans. in Prim table you look SatisTutari (int) if i add data in SatisTutari.Text instead of int value adding float value. Trannsaction must be run! Everything is ok but how can i refactoring or give best performance or best writing Transaction coding! i have 3 table so i have 3 entities: CREATE TABLE Personel (PersonelID integer PRIMARY KEY identity not null, Ad varchar(30), Soyad varchar(30), Meslek varchar(100), DogumTarihi datetime, DogumYeri nvarchar(100), PirimToplami float); Go create TABLE Prim (PrimID integer PRIMARY KEY identity not null, PersonelID integer Foreign KEY references Personel(PersonelID), SatisTutari int, Prim float, SatisTarihi Datetime); Go CREATE TABLE Finans (ID integer PRIMARY KEY identity not null, Tutar float); Personel, Prim,Finans my tables. if you look Prim table you can see Prim value float value if i write a textbox not float value my transaction must run. protected void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { using (TestEntities testCtx = new TestEntities()) { using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope()) { Personel personel = new Personel(); Prim prim = new Prim(); Finans finans = new Finans(); //-----------------------------------------------------------------------Step 1 personel.Ad = txtName.Text; personel.Soyad = txtSurName.Text; personel.Meslek = txtMeslek.Text; personel.DogumTarihi = DateTime.Parse(txtSatisTarihi.Text); personel.DogumYeri = txtDogumYeri.Text; personel.PirimToplami = float.Parse(txtPrimToplami.Text); testCtx.AddToPersonel(personel); testCtx.SaveChanges(); //----------------------------------------------------------------------- step 2 prim.PersonelID = personel.PersonelID; prim.SatisTutari = int.Parse(txtSatisTutari.Text); prim.SatisTarihi = DateTime.Parse(txtSatisTarihi.Text); prim.Prim1 = double.Parse(txtPrim.Text); finans.Tutar = prim.SatisTutari * prim.Prim1; testCtx.AddToPrim(prim); testCtx.SaveChanges(); //----------------------------------------------------------------------- step 3 lblTutar.Text = finans.Tutar.Value.ToString(); testCtx.AddToFinans(finans); testCtx.SaveChanges(); scope.Complete(); } } How can i rearrange codes. i need best practice refactoring and best solution for reading easly and performance!!!

  • Latex multicolumn problems

    - by midtiby
Hi I am trying to build a table in latex where five columns have a common title centered above the columns. But the generated table does not appear as expected. (the common title is left justified instead of centered above the columns) The code looks like \documentclass{article} \begin{document} \begin{table} \centering \begin{tabular}{|l|c|c|c|r|} \multicolumn{5}{c}{Hydrotalcite} \\ \hline kalhsdfsa & 1 asdf asf asfa &7as dfas fasdf as0 & 003 \\ kalhsdfsa & 1 asdf asf asfa &7as dfas fasdf as0 & 003 \\ kalhsdfsa & 1 asdf asf asfa &7as dfas fasdf as0 & 003 \end{tabular} \caption{lala} \label{tabTableRefereaSDasdnce} \end{table} \end{document} And I'm running miktex 2.8 on Windows XP

  • search for a winner, returning their rank

    - by incrediman
Earlier I asked this question, which basically asked how to list 10 winners in a table with many winners, according to their points. This was answered. Now I'm looking to search for a given winner X in the table, and find out what position he is in, when the table is ordered by points. For example, if this is the table: Winners: NAME:____|__POINTS: Winner1 | 1241 Winner2 | 1199 Sally | 1000 Winner4 | 900 Winner5 | 889 Winner6 | 700 Winner7 | 667 Jacob | 623 Winner9 | 622 Winner10 | 605 Winner11 | 600 Winner12 | 586 Thomas | 455 Pamela | 434 Winner15 | 411 Winner16 | 410 These are possible inputs and outputs for what I want to do: Query: "Sally", "Winner12", "Pamela", "Jacob" Output: 3 12 14 623 How can I do this? Is it possible, using only a MySQL statement? Or do I need PHP as well? This is the kind of thing I want: WHEREIS FROM Winners WHERE Name='Sally' LIMIT 1 Ideas?

  • Export to Excel from dataset with out using htmltextwriter

    - by senthil
Export to Excel from dataset with out using htmltextwriter Hey, I'm having an issue occuring when I want to import data back into a table from a file. My export creates a file successfully as a .xls file. However, my contents for the file are being written as standard html table as seen below rather than the file content that normal excel files are saved in. The issue I have now is this. I need to take this file along with whatever changes or additions that were made by an end user and upload it back to a table in SQL Server. The error I get is: External table is not in the expected format.

  • Storing multiple checkbox values in database

    - by Madjokr
Hi, I want to store multiple column values in table.Lets take a example .. What are your favourite colors? the choices can be red, blue, green, orange. So lets assume, the user selects atleast 2 values. Is there any way to store the multiple values in table. I have implemented by concatinating choices of users in a column in the table. I later found that it is a bad practise. Currently i can think of using Bitwise operator and habtm. What are the different ways for storing multiple choices values in table? If I am implementing in rails, What is the best way to implement this with OOP concepts? Is there any builtin options in rails?

  • Fastest way to convert a list of doubles to a unique list of integers?

    - by javanix
I am dealing with a MySQL table here that is keyed in a somewhat unfortunate way. Instead of using an auto increment table as a key, it uses a column of decimals to preserve order (presumably so its not too difficult to insert new rows while preserving a primary key and order). Before I go through and redo this table to something more sane, I need to figure out how to rekey it without breaking everything. What I would like to do is something that takes a list of doubles (the current keys) and outputs a list of integers (which can be cast down to doubles for rekeying). For example, input {1.00, 2.00, 2.50, 2.60, 3.00} would give output {1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Since this is a database, I also need to be able to update the rows nicely: UPDATE table SET `key`='3.00' WHERE `key`='2.50'; Can anyone think of a speedy algorithm to do this? My current thought is to read all of the doubles into a vector, take the size of the vector, and output a new vector with values from 1 => doubleVector.size. This seems pretty slow, since you wouldn't want to read every value into the vector if, for instance, only the last n/100 elements needed to be modified. I think there is probably something I can do in place, since only values after the first non-integer double need to be modified, but I can't for the life of me figure anything out that would let me update in place as well. For instance, setting 2.60 to 3.00 the first time you see 2.50 in the original key list would result in an error, since the key value 3.00 is already used for the table.

  • Join DELETE in MySql? How to?

    - by Camran
I have this: $query="DELETE FROM classified, $sql_table WHERE classified.ad_id = '$id' AND classified.classified_id = $sql_table.classified_id AND classified.poster_password='$pass'"; I get this error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'WHERE classified.ad_id = 'Bmw_M3_E46_Full_29920' AND classified.cla' at line 1 Any help? As you can see the $sql_table is linked to the classifieds table with the fields classified_id I need to JOIN DELETE somehow. Basically classified table is the main table, then every category has its own tables with vehicle data. classified table has a field called classified_id which is the same as the Here is the full query echoed: DELETE FROM classified, vehicles WHERE classified.ad_id = 'Bmw_M3_E46_410811305' AND classified.classified_id = vehicles.classified_id AND classified.poster_password='some_password' Why isn't this working, Should it be so hard to delete from multiple tables? Thanks

  • How to have multiple tables with multiple joins

    - by williamsdb
I have three tables that I need to join together and get a combination of results. I have tried using left/right joins but they don't give the desired results. For example: Table 1 - STAFF id name 1 John 2 Fred Table 2 - STAFFMOBILERIGHTS id staffid mobilerightsid rights --this table is empty-- Table 3 - MOBILERIGHTS id rightname 1 Login 2 View and what I need is this as the result... id name id staffid mobilerightsid rights id rightname 1 John null null null null 1 login 1 John null null null null 2 View 2 Fred null null null null 1 login 2 Fred null null null null 2 View I have tried the following : SELECT * FROM STAFFMOBILERIGHTS SMR RIGHT JOIN STAFF STA ON STA.STAFFID = SMR.STAFFID RIGHT JOIN MOBILERIGHTS MRI ON MRI.ID = SMR.MOBILERIGHTSID But this only returns two rows as follows: id name id staffid mobilerightsid rights id rightname null null null null null null 1 login null null null null null null 2 View Can what I am trying to achieve be done and if so how? • Visual studio ORM designer option

    - by stackoverflowuser
linq to sql visual studio Object-Relational designer generates C# entity class names same as the table names (except pluralizing it). so if the table name is authors it generates entity class with name "author". If the table name is Customers it generates class with name "Customer". Is there any option that can be set to make the designer generate entity class names as pascal cased. I am using VS 2010 if that makes any difference. Thanks.

  • Clear float issue

    - by Jason
I have a page with the standard navigation bar on the left and the content area taking up the rest of the horizontal area to its side. For modern browsers I am using table-row and table-cell values for the display attribute. However, for IE7 I included a conditional stylesheet that tries to float the nav bar. This works fine except when the content area itself has floated elements and I try to use clear. My goal is to displayed the clear element right after the content area floats but instead it gets shoved down below the nav area. The following demo code shows this issue. My goal is to get the table to display right below the "leftThing" and "rightThing" but instead there is a large gap between them and the table. <html> <head> <title>Float Test</title> <style type="text/css"> #body { background: #cecece; } #sidebar { background: #ababab; float: left; width: 200px; } #content { background: #efefef; margin-left: 215px; } #leftThing { background: #456789; float: left; width: 100px; } #rightThing { background: #654321; float: right; width: 100px; } table { clear: both; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="body"> <div id="sidebar"> <ul> <li>One</li> <li>Two</li> <li>Three</li> </ul> </div> <div id="content"> <div style="position: realtive;"> <div id="leftThing"> ABCDEF </div> <div id="rightThing"> WXYZ </div> <table> <thead> <th>One</th> <th>Two</th> </thead> <tr> <td>Jason</td> <td>45</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Mary</td> <td>41</td> </tr> </table> <p>Exerci ullamcorper consequat duis ipsum ut nostrud zzril, feugait feugiat duis dolor feugiat commodo, accumsan, duis illum eum molestie luptatum nisl iusto. • Multiple errors while adding searching to app

    - by Thijs
Hi, I'm fairly new at iOS programming, but I managed to make a (in my opinion quite nice) app for the app store. The main function for my next update will be a search option for the app. I followed a tutorial I found on the internet and adapted it to fit my app. I got back quite some errors, most of which I managed to fix. But now I'm completely stuck and don't know what to do next. I know it's a lot to ask, but if anyone could take a look at the code underneath, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! // // RootViewController.m // GGZ info // // Created by Thijs Beckers on 29-12-10. // Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. • Join two tables with same # of row but sorted for NULL

    - by VISQL
I need to join two tables with the same number of rows. Each table has 1 column. There is NO CONNECTING COLUMN to reference for a join. I need to join them side by side because each table was sorted separately so that numeric values are at the top in descinding order. The Table Earners has income values from say 200K down to 0. I cannot just select using 2 cases, because then I will have my first row with Incomes above 100K, but the first 20 or so entries in the second row are NULL. I want the second row to also be sorted descending. I looked up using ORDER BY within CASE but there is no such thing. I have tried to read about row_number() but none of the examples seem to match or make sense. drop table #20plus select case when Income >= 20000 AND Income < 100000 then Income end as 'mula' into #20plus from Earners order by mula desc drop table #100plus select case when Income >= 100000 then Income end as 'dinero' into #100plus from Earners order by dinero desc Select A.dinero, B.mula FROM #100plus as A JOIN #20plus as B ON A.????? = B.????? Since both A and B are sorted descending, moving all NULL to the bottom, what can I reference to join the two tables? • SQLserver multithreaded locking with TABLOCKX

    - by WilfriedVS
I have a table "tbluser" with 2 fields: userid = integer (autoincrement) user = nvarchar(100) I have a multithreaded/multi server application that uses this table. I want to accomplish the following: Guarantee that field user is unique in my table Guarantee that combination userid/user is unique in each server's memory I have the following stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE uniqueuser @user nvarchar(100) AS BEGIN BEGIN TRAN DECLARE @userID int SET nocount ON SET @userID = (SELECT @userID FROM tbluser WITH (TABLOCKX) WHERE [user] = @user) IF @userID <> '' BEGIN SELECT userID = @userID END ELSE BEGIN INSERT INTO tbluser([user]) VALUES (@user) SELECT userID = SCOPE_IDENTITY() END COMMIT TRAN END Basically the application calls the stored procedure and provides a username as parameter. The stored procedure either gets the userid or insert the user if it is a new user. Am I correct to assume that the table is locked (only one server can insert/query)?

hi i need to select only the first row from a query that joins tables A and B, on table B exist multiple records with same name. there are not identifiers in any of the two tables. i cannt change the scheme either because i do not own the DB TABLE A NAME TABLE B NAME DATA1 DATA2 Select Distinct A.NAME,B.DATA1,B.DATA2 From A Inner Join B on A.NAME = B.NAME this gives me NAME DATA1 DATA2 sameName 1 2 sameName 1 3 otherName 5 7 otherName 8 9 but i need to retrieve only one row per name NAME DATA1 DATA2 sameName 1 2 otherName 5 7 i was able to do this by adding the result into a temp table with a identity column and the select the Min Id per name. the problem here is that i require to do this in one single statement. this is a DB2 database thanks

  • Jquery .each(): find elements containing input

    - by Poku
Hey, I have a table which have a thead section and a tbody section. Im using jQuery each to find and count all THs in a table. This works fine. But at the same time i want to check if the TDs of the THs in the tbody is containing any input elements. Here is what i have so far: jQuery('#' + _target).each(function () { var $table = jQuery(this); var i = 0; jQuery('th', $table).each(function (column) { if (jQuery(this).find("input")) { dataTypes[i] = { "sSortDataType": "input" } } else { dataTypes[i] = { "sSortDataType": "html" } } i++; }); }); I hope this is enough information for you to help me out?

  • Animating Reloading of UITableView

    - by ustun
I am trying to animate table rows in a UITableView in an iPhone project as I swipe across the screen to reload the data. When I disable animations and only call reloadData, table continues responding to swipe gestures. When I add animations with the reloadSections:WithRowAnimation: method, table stops responding to swipes, and only the navigation bar at the top responds to swipes. Another change is that, table starts responding to selection and I have to manually disable it again. I suspect these two issues might be related. I am using the swipe detection code over here btw: 1

  • Is there a way to delay compilation of a stored procedure's execution plan?

    - by Ian Henry
(At first glance this may look like a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/421275 or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/414336, but my actual question is a bit different) Alright, this one's had me stumped for a few hours. My example here is ridiculously abstracted, so I doubt it will be possible to recreate locally, but it provides context for my question (Also, I'm running SQL Server 2005). I have a stored procedure with basically two steps, constructing a temp table, populating it with very few rows, and then querying a very large table joining against that temp table. It has multiple parameters, but the most relevant is a datetime "@MinDate." Essentially: create table #smallTable (ID int) insert into #smallTable select (a very small number of rows from some other table) select * from aGiantTable inner join #smallTable on #smallTable.ID = aGiantTable.ID inner join anotherTable on anotherTable.GiantID = aGiantTable.ID where aGiantTable.SomeDateField > @MinDate If I just execute this as a normal query, by declaring @MinDate as a local variable and running that, it produces an optimal execution plan that executes very quickly (first joins on #smallTable and then only considers a very small subset of rows from aGiantTable while doing other operations). It seems to realize that #smallTable is tiny, so it would be efficient to start with it. This is good. However, if I make that a stored procedure with @MinDate as a parameter, it produces a completely inefficient execution plan. (I am recompiling it each time, so it's not a bad cached plan...at least, I sure hope it's not) But here's where it gets weird. If I change the proc to the following: declare @LocalMinDate datetime set @LocalMinDate = @MinDate --where @MinDate is still a parameter create table #smallTable (ID int) insert into #smallTable select (a very small number of rows from some other table) select * from aGiantTable inner join #smallTable on #smallTable.ID = aGiantTable.ID inner join anotherTable on anotherTable.GiantID = aGiantTable.ID where aGiantTable.SomeDateField > @LocalMinDate Then it gives me the efficient plan! So my theory is this: when executing as a plain query (not as a stored procedure), it waits to construct the execution plan for the expensive query until the last minute, so the query optimizer knows that #smallTable is small and uses that information to give the efficient plan. But when executing as a stored procedure, it creates the entire execution plan at once, thus it can't use this bit of information to optimize the plan. But why does using the locally declared variables change this? Why does that delay the creation of the execution plan? Is that actually what's happening? If so, is there a way to force delayed compilation (if that indeed is what's going on here) even when not using local variables in this way? More generally, does anyone have sources on when the execution plan is created for each step of a stored procedure? Googling hasn't provided any helpful information, but I don't think I'm looking for the right thing. Or is my theory just completely unfounded? Edit: Since posting, I've learned of parameter sniffing, and I assume this is what's causing the execution plan to compile prematurely (unless stored procedures indeed compile all at once), so my question remains -- can you force the delay? Or disable the sniffing entirely? The question is academic, since I can force a more efficient plan by replacing the select * from aGiantTable with select * from (select * from aGiantTable where ID in (select ID from #smallTable)) as aGiantTable Or just sucking it up and masking the parameters, but still, this inconsistency has me pretty curious.

  • mysql whats wrong with this query?

    - by Hailwood
    I'm trying to write a query that selects from four tables campaignSentParent csp campaignSentEmail cse campaignSentFax csf campaignSentSms css Each of the cse, csf, and css tables are linked to the csp table by csp.id = (cse/csf/css).parentId The csp table has a column called campaignId, What I want to do is end up with rows that look like: | id | dateSent | emailsSent | faxsSent | smssSent | | 1 | 2011-02-04 | 139 | 129 | 140 | But instead I end up with a row that looks like: | 1 | 2011-02-03 | 2510340 | 2510340 | 2510340 | Here is the query I am trying SELECT csp.id id, csp.dateSent dateSent, COUNT(cse.parentId) emailsSent, COUNT(csf.parentId) faxsSent, COUNT(css.parentId) smsSent FROM campaignSentParent csp, campaignSentEmail cse, campaignSentFax csf, campaignSentSms css WHERE csp.campaignId = 1 AND csf.parentId = csp.id AND cse.parentId = csp.id AND css.parentId = csp.id; Adding GROUP BY did not help, so I am posting the create statements. csp CREATE TABLE `campaignsentparent` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `campaignId` int(11) NOT NULL, `dateSent` datetime NOT NULL, `account` int(11) NOT NULL, `status` varchar(15) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'Creating', PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=2 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 cse/csf (same structure, different names) CREATE TABLE `campaignsentemail` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `parentId` int(11) NOT NULL, `contactId` int(11) NOT NULL, `content` text, `subject` text, `status` varchar(15) DEFAULT 'Pending', PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=140 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 css CREATE TABLE `campaignsentsms` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `parentId` int(11) NOT NULL, `contactId` int(11) NOT NULL, `content` text, `status` varchar(15) DEFAULT 'Pending', PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=141 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1

  • CSS Make one row the width of another

    - by gav
I'm sure this is a fairly common problem but I'm new to CSS so I'm not sure how it's done. I tried searching for the issue but sometimes it's tricky to get the right keywords. I have a table the width of which I want to be constrained by a specific row. My table css is as follows; table { border: 1px solid #ccc; width: auto; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } I have one row which contains cells for which I want the width to autofit and two rows of prose which currently force the table to take 100% width. How do I constrain the latter to have at most the autofit width of the first row? If tables aren't the way to go and this should be pure css and divs, how do you get one class to adopt the fixed but unknown width of another? Thanks, Gav
