• How can I get controller type and action info from a url or from route data?

  How can I get the controller action (method) and controller type that will be called, given the System.Web.Routing.RouteData? My scenario is this - I want to be able to do perform certain actions (or not) in the OnActionExecuting method for an action. However, I will often want to know not the current action, but the "root" action being called; by this I mean I may have a view called "Login", which is my login page. This view may include another partial view "LeftNav". When OnActionExecuting is called for LeftNav, I want to be able to determine that it is really being called for the "root" aciton of Login. I realise that by calling RouteTable.Routes.GetRouteData(actionExecutingContext.HttpContext), I can get the route for the "root" request, but how to turn this into method and type info? The only solution I have so far, is something like: var routeData = RouteTable.Routes.GetRouteData(actionExecutingContext.HttpContext) var routeController = (string)routeData.Values["controller"]; var routeAction = (string)routeData.Values["action"]; The problem with this is that "routeController" is the controller name with the "Controller" suffix removed, and is not fully qualified; ie it is "Login", rather than "MyCode.Website.LoginController". I would far rather get an actual Type and MethodInfo if possible, or at least a fully qualified type name. Any thoughts, or alternative approaches? [EDIT - this is ASP.Net MVC 1.0]

  I made the following test for my class: var mock = new Mock<IRandomNumberGenerator>(); mock.Setup(framework => framework.Generate(0, 50)) .Returns(7.0) var rnac = new RandomNumberAverageCounter(mock.Object, 1, 100); rnac.Run(); double result = rnac.GetAverage(); Assert.AreEqual(result, 7.0, 0.1); The problem here was that I changed my mind about what range of values Generate(int min, int max) would use. I ran the test and it failed. I know that that is what it's supposed to happen but I was left wondering if isn't there a way to launch an exception or throw in a message when trying to run the method params. Also, if I want to run this Generate() method 10 times with different values (let's say, from 1 to 10), will I have to make 10 mock setups or something, or is there a special method for it? The best I could think of is this (which isn't bad, I'm just asking if there is other better way): for (int i = 1; i < 10; ++i) { mock.Setup(framework => framework.Generate(1, 100)) .Returns((double)i); } Thanks

• Sharp architecture; Accessing Validation Results

  I am exploring Sharp Architecture and I would like to know how to access the validation results after calling Entity.IsValid(). I have two scenarios e.g. 1) If the entity.IsValid() return false, I would like to add the errors to ModelState.AddModelError() collection in my controller. E.g. in the Northwind sample we have an EmployeesController.Create() action when we do employee.IsValid(), how can I get access to the errors? public ActionResult Create(Employee employee) { if (ViewData.ModelState.IsValid && employee.IsValid()) { employeeRepository.SaveOrUpdate(employee); } // .... } [I already know that when an Action method is called, modelbinder enforces validation rules(nhibernate validator attributes) as it parses incoming values and tries to assign them to the model object and if it can't parse the incoming values  then it register those as errors in modelstate for each model object property. But what if i have some custom validation. Thats why we do ModelState.IsValid first.] 2) In my test methods I would like to test the nhibernate validation rules as well. I can do entity.IsValid() but that only returns true/ false. I would like to Assert against the actual error not just true/ false. In my previous projects, I normally use a wrapper Service Layer for Repositories, and instead of calling Repositories method directly from controller, controllers call service layer methods which in turn call repository methods. In my Service Layer all my custom validation rules resides and Service Layer methods throws a custom exception with a NameValueCollection of errors which I can easily add to ModelState in my controller. This way I can also easily implement sophisticated business rules in my service layer as well. I kow sharp architecture also provides a Service Layer project. But what I am interested in and my next question is: How I can use NHibernate Vaidators to implement sophisticated custom business rules (not just null,empty, range etc.) and make Entity.IsValid() to verify those rules too ?

• Crystal Reports Programmatic Image Resizing... Scale?

  I'm working with a Crystal Reports object in Visual Studio 2008 (C#). The report is building fine and the data is binding correctly. However, when I try to resize an IBlobFieldObject from within the source, the scale is getting skewed. Two notes about this scenario. Source image is 1024x768, my max width and height are 720x576. My math should be correct that my new image size will be 720x540 (to fit within the max width and height guidelines). The ratio is wrong when I do this though: img = Image.FromFile(path); newWidth = img.Size.Width; newHeight = img.Size.Height; if ((img.Size.Width > 720) || (img.Size.Height > 576)) { double ratio = Convert.ToDouble(img.Size.Width) / Convert.ToDouble(img.Size.Height); if (ratio > 1.25) // Adjust width to 720, height will fall within range { newWidth = 720; newHeight = Convert.ToInt32(Convert.ToDouble(img.Size.Height) * 720.0 / Convert.ToDouble(img.Size.Width)); } else // Adjust height to 576, width will fall within range { newHeight = 576; newWidth = Convert.ToInt32(Convert.ToDouble(img.Size.Width) * 576.0 / Convert.ToDouble(img.Size.Height)); } imgRpt.Section3.ReportObjects["image"].Height = newHeight; imgRpt.Section3.ReportObjects["image"].Width = newWidth; } I've stepped through the code to make sure that the values are correct from the math, and I've even saved the image file out to make sure that the aspect ratio is correct (it was). No matter what I try though, the image is squashed--almost as if the Scale values are off in the Crystal Reports designer (they're not). Thanks in advance for any help!

• JSF: How to get the selected item from selectOneMenu if its rendering is dynamic?

  At my view I have two menus that I want to make dependent, namely, if first menu holds values "render second menu" and "don't render second menu", I want second menu to be rendered only if user selects "render second menu" option in the first menu. After second menu renders at the same page as the first one, user has to select current item from it, fill another fields and submit the form to store values in database. Both the lists of options are static, they are obtained from the database once and stay the same. My problem is I always get null as a value of the selected item from second menu. How to get a proper value? The sample code of view that holds problematic elements is: <h:selectOneMenu id="renderSecond" value="#{Bean.renderSecondValue}" valueChangeListener="#{Bean.updateDependentMenus}" immediate="true" onchange="this.form.submit();" > <f:selectItems value="#{Bean.typesOfRendering}" /> </h:selectOneMenu><br /> <h:selectOneMenu id="iWillReturnYouZeroAnyway" value="#{Bean.currentItem}" rendered="#{Bean.rendered}" > <f:selectItems value="#{Bean.items}" /> </h:selectOneMenu><br /> <h:commandButton action="#{Bean.store}" value="#Store" /> However, if I remove "rendered" attribute from the second menu, everything works properly, except for displaying the menu for all the time that I try to prevent, so I suggest the problem is in behavior of dynamic rendering. The initial value of isRendered is false because the default item in first menu is "don't render second menu". When I change value in first menu and update isRendered with valueChangeListener, the second menu displays but it doesn't initialize currentItem while submitting. • Apache error_log repeated attempts to access forum.php

  About every two seconds I am getting: [Sat Feb 19 19:00:01 2011] [error] [client 69.239.204.217] script '/var/www /html/forum.php' not found or unable to stat [Sat Feb 19 19:00:04 2011] [error] [client 69.239.204.217] File does not exist: /var/www/html/404.shtml ..in my /var/log/httpd/error_log file. Sometimes the request will be for forum_asp.php. I'm assuming its a bot trying to access insecure forum files, but I'm not so sure since it appears each is a unique IP and not just a few rouge IPs hitting it consecutively. And whois results of the ip's aren't all the classic ISP in Russia or China, they are more end user address (comcast, etc). Any insight into whats going on here would be appreciated. Also, any techniques people use to do a "live monitor" of web traffic would be appreciated. Right now I'm doing a: tail -f error_log Thanks.

  To learn databasing, I am creating a movie database. To associate multiple directors with a movie, I have the following schema: movie(m_ID, ....) m_director(dirID, dirName)//dirID is a autoincrement primary key m_directs(dirID, m_ID) //dirID, m_ID are set as foreign Keys in the mysql database(InnoDB engine) I have a program that connects to the db that needs to add a movie to the database. I can easily add a new entry to the movie table and the m_director table, but I am having trouble adding a entry in the m_directs table. INSERT INTO m_director (dirName) VALUES("Jason Reitman"); INSERT INTO m_directs (dirID, m_ID) VALUES(LAST_INSERT_ID(), "tt0467406"); I am using this sql statement to insert a new director and add the association to the movie. I know the primary key of the movie, but I don't know the dirID, so I use LAST_INSERT_ID() to get the last id of the director just inserted. The problem I am having is that I get the following error: MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlException (0x80004005): Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (`siteproducts`. `m_directs`, CONSTRAINT `m_directs_ibfk_2` FOREIGN KEY (`dirID`) REFERENCES `m_directs` (`dirID`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE) Any ideas?

• How to call PopOver Controller from UITableViewCell.accessoryView?

  Hi, First I would like to say that I'm really new to ipad/ipod/iphone development, and to objective-c too. With that being said, I'm trying to develop a small application targeting the iPad, using Xcode and IB, basically, I have a table, for each UITableViewCell in the table, I added to the accessoryView a button that contains an image. Also, as you can see, I'm telling it to use the "cell.accessoryView" for the "inView:" attribute, is that okay?

• java converting int to short

  Hi I am calculating 16 bit checksum on my data which i need to send to server where it has to recalculate and match with the provided checksum. Checksum value that i am getting is in int but i have only 2 bytes for sending the value.So i am casting int to short while calling shortToBytes method. This works fine till checksum value is less than 32767 thereafter i am getting negative values. Thing is java does not have unsigned primitives, so i am not able to send values greater than max value of signed short allowed. How can i do this, converting int to short and send over the network without worrying about truncation and signed & unsigned int. • What is the target color profile in Image.FromFile?

  I am curious what the useEmbeddedColorManagement parameter in System.Drawing.Image.FromFile actually does. This parameter directory corresponds to a GDI+ parameter in the same method of the same class. So debugging .NET source does not lead anywhere. If my understanding of color profiles is correct, a color profile is basically a mapping which describes how particular RGB triples (or CMYK or something else) map into the so called Profile Connection Space (CIELAB or CIEXYZ). Now, if I open an image with embedded color in .NET setting useEmbeddedColorManagement to true, my experience is I get an image whose RGB values are not exactly the same as the original values in the file, i.e. is transformed. Since the original image was an RGB and the new is also an RGB, there must have been a transformation from the embedded color profile to a Profile Connection Space and the back to RGB. The thing which I don’t understand is what is the target color system? Is it some default Windows color profile? Is the current monitor profile? Is it sRGB?

  I am hoping this question fares a little better than the similar Create a table without columns. Yes, I am asking about something that will strike most as pointlessly academic. It is easy to produce a SELECT result with 0 rows (but with columns), e.g. SELECT a = 1 WHERE 1 = 0. Is it possible to produce a SELECT result with 0 columns (but with rows)? e.g. something like SELECT NO COLUMNS FROM Foo. (This is not valid T-SQL.) I came across this because I wanted to insert several rows without specifying any column data for any of them. e.g. (SQL Server 2005) CREATE TABLE Bar (id INT NOT NULL IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY) INSERT INTO Bar SELECT NO COLUMNS FROM Foo -- Invalid column name 'NO'. -- An explicit value for the identity column in table 'Bar' can only be specified when a column list is used and IDENTITY_INSERT is ON. One can insert a single row without specifying any column data, e.g. INSERT INTO Foo DEFAULT VALUES. One can query for a count of rows (without retrieving actual column data from the table), e.g. SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Foo. (But that result set, of course, has a column.)   Hello, I have a bit of a unique problem. for the domain (example.com) I want people to go to www.example.com however I'm also throwing GSLB into the mix. for GSLB the devices(one in each datacenter) need to be the nameserver for portion of the domain that they are going to answer for(www.example.com) so I know I can make the NS record of www.example.com just fine and have it point to each GSLB device. However that only helps for www.example.com NOT example.com. I don't want to make my root NS of example.com my GSLB as my enterprise managed DNS provider does an excellent job of all DNS stuff. any ideas?

• Cannot turn off autocommit in a script using the Django ORM

  I have a command line script that uses the Django ORM and MySQL backend. I want to turn off autocommit and commit manually. For the life of me, I cannot get this to work. Here is a pared down version of the script. • Can't Remove Logical Drive/Array from HP P400

  This is my first post here. Thank you in advance for any assistance with this matter. I'm trying to remove a logical drive (logical drive 2) and an array (array "B") from my Smart Array P400. The host is a DL580 G5 running 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 (Tikanga). I am unable to remove the array using either hpacucli or cpqacuxe. I believe it is because of "OS Status: LOCKED". The file system that lives on this array has been unmounted. I do not want to reboot the host. Is there some way to "release" this logical drive so I can remove the array? Note that I do not need to preserve the data on logical drive 2. I intend to physically remove the drives from the machine and replace them with larger drives. I'm using the cciss kernel module that ships with Red Hat 5.7.   I've been trying to select a list of values from XMLs stored in an XMLType column but I keep getting the errors which are listed at the tail end of this post. Is it because iBatis does not recognise XMLDB queries and hence, tokenizes the string wrongly? On a sidenote, I have implemented XMLTypeCallback.java to handle XMLType insertions successfully, and I think it will work should I wish to retrieve the entire XML. However, in this case, I need to extract only individual values due to requirements. A workaround would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. However, I have tried coming up with three different solutions, and I've gotten stuck on each. One reason might be that I've tried to avoid recursion (maybe wrongly so). I'm not posting the partial solutions I have so far since they are incorrect and may badly influence the solutions of others.

• Can single ESXi host make use of two separete iSCSI box?

  Hi! I have problem with using multiply iSCSI targets with single ESXi host (in my case they are two FreeNAS hosts, but I suspect that this problem will occur with any two iSCSI box of that same type/model). If I configure two FreeNAS hosts as iSCSI targets (say iSCSI A and iSCSI B), then I can use both of them with my ESXi host, but only one at a time (i.e only iSCSI A or only iSCSI B, but not both of them simultaneously). If I try to add second iSCSI target to my iSCSI adapter (of course it has unique iqn name), then in a details pane of this adapter (it is iSCSI software adapter), I see that total number of paths has increased accordingly, but not total number of devices (so I can't use it as another storage). What should I do? It is impossible to attach two iSCSI targets to single adapter? I'm using free version of ESXi 4.1. Maybe it is an limitation of free version? Thanks in advance for any sugestion.

  I am using HAProxy on EC2 and using httpchk to manage node availability. I had used a pseudo-unique path as the health check route in an attempt to make sure only my servers responded to the health check. Earlier today I had an EC2 server fall out of existence, and before the haproxy config was auto-regenerated (controller issues), Amazon had reassigned the IP to someone whom 200's every request (honeypot?), my HAProxy host then pulled the server back into rotation and started distributing some of my traffic there until the controller recovered and removed the ip from the list. TLDR; Is there a way to add a server authentication method to HAProxy's httpchk?
