• PHP: using REGEX to get the tablename from a mysql query

• will a mysql query run slower if one of the tables involved has no index defined??

  there's this already populated database which came from another dev im not sure what went on that dev's mind when he created the tables, but on one of our scripts there is this query involving 4 tables and it runs super slow SELECT a.col_1, a.col_2, a.col_3, a.col_4, a.col_5, a.col_6, a.col_7 FROM a, b, c, d WHERE a.id = b.id AND b.c_id = c.id AND c.id = d.c_id AND a.col_8 = '$col_8' AND d.g_id = '$g_id' AND c.private = '1' NOTE: $col_8 and $g_id are variables from a form its only my theory that it's due to tables b and c not having an index, although im guessing that the dev didnt think that it was necessary since those tables only tell relations between a and d, where b tells that the data in a belongs to a certain user, and c tells that the user belongs to a group in d as you can see, there's not even a join or other extensive query functions used but this query which returns only around 100 rows takes 2 minutes to execute. anyway my question is simply this post's title. will a mysql query run slower if one of the tables involved has no index defined??

  A trigger in an Oracle 10g generates upsert and delete messages for a subset of rows in a regular table. These messages consist out of two fields: A unique row id. A non-unique id. When consuming these message I want to impose an order on the deque process that respects the following constraints: Messages must be dequeued in insertion order. Messages belonging to the same id must be dequeued in such a fashion that no other dequeuing process should be able to dequeue a potential successor message (or messages) with this id. Since the messages are generated using a trigger I cannot use groups for this purpose. I am using the Oracle Java interface for AQ. Any pointers on how that could be achieved?

• What would I use to remove escaped html from large sets of data.

  Our database is filled with articles retrieved from RSS feeds. I was unsure of what data I would be getting, and how much filtering was already setup (WP-O-Matic Wordpress plugin using the SimplePie library). This plugin does some basic encoding before insertion using Wordpress's built in post insert function which also does some filtering. I've figured out most of the filters before insertion, but now I have whacko data that I need to remove. This is an example of whacko data that I have data in one field which the content I want in the front, but this part removed which is at the end: <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/SoundOnTheSound?i=xFxEpT2Add0:xFbIkwGc-fk:V_sGLiPBpWU" border="0"></img> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/SoundOnTheSound?d=qj6IDK7rITs" border="0"></img> &lt;img src=&quot;http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/SoundOnTheSound?i=xFxEpT2Add0:xFbIkwGc-fk:D7DqB2pKExk&quot; Notice how some of the images are escape and some aren't. I believe this has to do with the last part being cut off so as to be unrecognizable as an html tag, which then caused it to be html endcoded. And PHP times out on large database operations, so that's pretty much out unless I wanted to do batch processing and what not. PS One of the nice things about using Wordpress's insert post function, is that if you use php's strip_tags function to strip out all html, insert post function will insert <p> at the paragraph points.   Hi, I see people using LEFT JOIN in their mysql queries to fetch data from two tables. But I normally do it without left join. Is there any differences besides the syntax, e.g. performance? Here's my normal query style: SELECT * FROM table1 as tbl1, table2 as tbl2 WHERE tbl1.id=tbl2.table_id as compared to SELECT * FROM table1 as tbl1 LEFT JOIN table2 as tbl2 on tbl1.id=tbl2.id Personally I prefer the first style...hmm..

  I am pretty sure this is some problem with the Apache configuration because it used to work on the previous hosting provider with the same PHP/MySQL configuration. In my application, users are able to delete photos by going to URIs like this: http://example.com/my-account/remove-media/id/9/ret/my-account%252Fedit-album%252Fid%252F1 The paramater id is an id of a photo to be removed, the parameter ret is a relative URL where user should be redirected after the removal of the photo but after clicking on a link like that I get 404 Not Found error with the text: Not Found The requested URL /public/my-account/remove-media/id/9/ret/my-account/edit-album/id/1 was not found on this server. Though it used to work on my previous hosting provider so I guess it is just some easy Apache configuration issue? • jqModal and jquery widget long shot

  Hi All, I just started playing around with jquery widgets within my jqmodals in my mvc app. I know this may be a long shot but I'll take it. Initially, I can click the Add link, get the alert ("which is the prize", watching too much tv), next click cancel to close modal and get the desired results. I can, then, click the Edit link and get the same desired results. However, if I click Edit link first then I try to click the Add link, "forget about it" I don't get the alert (which means my widget did not init).   Hi, I don't know how to perform this query using Linq and the EF. Imagine I have three tables A, B and C. A and B have a many-to-many relationship. B and C have a 1-to-many relationship. I want to obtain records from B including C but filtering from A's Id.   Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. I met with deadlock in the following store procedure, but because of my fault, I did not record the deadlock graph. But now I can not reproduce deadlock issue. I want to have a postmortem to find the root cause of deadlock to avoid deadlock in the future. The deadlock happens on delete statement. For the delete statement, Param1 is a column of table FooTable, Param1 is a foreign key of another table (refers to another primary key clustered index column of the other table). There is no index on Param1 itself for table FooTable. FooTable has another column which is used as clustered primary key, but not Param1 column. Here is my guess why there is deadlock, and I want to let people review whether my analysis is correct? Since Param1 column has no index, there will be a table scan, and will acquire table level lock, because of foreign key, the delete operation will also need to check master table (e.g. to acquire lock on master table); Some operation on master table acquires master table lock, but want to acquire lock on FooTable; (1) and (2) cause cycle lock which makes deadlock happen. My analysis correct?
