  • How to create an array of buttons in C++

    Hi, I'm using C++ in VS2005 and have an 8x8 grid of buttons on a form. I want to have these buttons in an array, so when I click on any of them it will open the same event handler (I think that is what they are called), but I will know the index of which one was clicked on. I know how to do this in VB and C#, but I can't seem to figure it out with C++ Right now I have all my buttons labelled by their location, i.e. b00, b10, b21, etc. So I think what I am looking for is a way to do something like this: Button b[8][8]; //this causes me errors (error C2728: 'System::Windows::Forms::Button' : a native array cannot contain this managed type) and (error C2227: left of '->{ctor}' must point to class/struct/union/generic type) void Assignment(){ b[0][0] = b00; b[1][0] = b10; ... } and then in form1.h: private: System::Void b_Click(System::Object^ sender, System::EventArgs^ e) { //somehow read the coordinates into variables x and y //do something based on these values } Any help would be appreciated.   • PHP - uninitialized array offset

    Hey everyone, I am using PHP to create a form with an array of fields. Basically you can add an unlimited number of 'people' to the form and each person has a first name, last name, and phone number. The form requires that you add a phone number for the first person only. If you leave the phone number field blank on any others, the handler file is supposed to be programmed to use the phone number from the first person. So, my fields are: person[] - a hidden field with a value that is this person's primary key. fname[] - an input field lname[] - an input field phone[] - an input field my form handler looks like this: $people = $_POST['person'] $counter = 0; foreach($people as $person): if(phone[$counter] == '') { // use $phone[0]'s phone number } else { // use $phone[$counter] number } $counter = $counter + 1; endforeach; PHP doesn't like this though, it is throwing me an Notice: Uninitialized string offset error. I debugged it by running the is_array function on people, fname, lname, and phone and it returns true to being an array. I can also manually echo out $phone[2], etc. and get the correct value. I've also ran is_int on the $counter variable and it returned true, so I'm unsure why this isn't working as intended? Any help would be great!

  • What metric captures why my OSX machine is so slow during XCode indexing

    My entire machine OSX Lion machine slows down while XCode 4.4 is indexing. The CPU is less than 10% busy, I've got over 500 MB free memory, plenty of disk space, disk IO rate is not high, network activity is not high. Indexing just a few files can take minutes and builds are extremely slow. While this is going on, even loading a new web page in Chrome can be slow. Knowing how to fix it would be great, but more fundamentally how can I measure what is actually going slowly? What metrics should I be looking at? Nothing in Activity Monitor, iostat, top, or sar betray anything about what's going on to me. Even getting a man page is interminable.

  • c++ optimize array of ints

    I have a 2D lookup table of int16_t. int16_t my_array[37][73] = {{**DATA HERE**}} I have a mixture of values that range from just above the range of int8_t to just below the range of int8_t and some of the values repeat themselves. I am trying to reduce the size of this lookup table. What I have done so far is split each int16_t value into two int8_t values to visualize the wasted bytes. int8_t part_1 = original_value >> 4; int8_t part_2 = original_value & 0x0000FFFF; // If the upper 4 bits of the original_value were empty if(part_1 == 0) wasted_bytes_count++; I can easily remove the zero value int8_t that are wasting a byte of space and I can also remove the duplicate values, but my question is how do I do remove those values while retaining the ability to lookup based on the two indices? I contemplated translating this into a 1D array and adding a number following each duplicated value that would represent the number of duplicates that were removed, but I am struggling with how I would then identify what is a lookup value and what is a duplicate count. Also, it is further complicated by stripping out the zero int8_t values that were wasted bytes. EDIT: This array is stored in ROM already. RAM is even more limited than ROM so it is already stored in ROM. EDIT: I am going to post a bounty for this question as soon as I can. I need a complete answer of how to store the information AND retrieve it. It does not need to be a 2D array as long as I can get the same values. For instance: p = read_csv_file(); q = p + 1; // I don't need the first CSV file field // Here I'd like to free only the first position of p return q; Otherwise I've to memcpy the array to other variable, excluding the first position, and then free the original array. Like this: p = read_csv_file(); q = (int*) malloc(sizeof(int) * (SOME_SIZE - 1)); memcpy(q, p+1, sizeof(int) * (SOME_SIZE - 1)); free(p); return q; But then I'll have the overhead of copying all the array.     I have an array that I want on multiple pages, so I made it a SESSION array. I want to add a series of names and then on another page, I want to be able to use a foreach loop to echo out all the names in that array. This is the session: $_SESSION['names'] I want to add a series of names to that array using array_push like this: array_push($_SESSION['names'],$name); I am getting this error: array_push() [function.array-push]: First argument should be an array Can I use array_push to put multiple values into that array? Or perhaps there is a better, more efficient way of doing what I am trying to achieve?

We have links on the homepage to other parts of the site that are not under SSL (in fact there is only one other page under SSL).   • How to quickly search through a very large list of strings / records on a database

    I have the following problem: I have a database containing more than 2 million records. Each record has a string field X and I want to display a list of records for which field X contains a certain string. Each record is about 500 bytes in size. To make it more concrete: in the GUI of my application I have a text field where I can enter a string. Above the text field I have a table displaying the (first N, e.g. 100) records that match the string in the text field. When I type or delete one character in the text field, the table content must be updated on the fly. I wonder if there is an efficient way of doing this using appropriate index structures and / or caching. As explained above, I only want to display the first N items that match the query. Therefore, for N small enough, it should not be a big issue loading the matching items from the database. Besides, caching items in main memory can make retrieval faster. I think the main problem is how to find the matching items quickly, given the pattern string. Can I rely on some DBMS facilities, or do I have to build some in-memory index myself? Any ideas? EDIT I have run a first experiment. I have split the records into different text files (at most 200 records per file) and put the files in different directories (I used the content of one data field to determine the directory tree). I end up with about 50000 files in about 40000 directories. I have then run Lucene to index the files. Searching for a string with the Lucene demo program is pretty fast. Splitting and indexing took a few minutes: this is totally acceptable for me because it is a static data set that I want to query. The next step is to integrate Lucene in the main program and use the hits returned by Lucene to load the relevant records into main memory.

Is there an easy way to iterate over the sorted "keys" of chr_count?
