  • How to return an image in an HTTP response with CherryPy

    I have code which generates a Cairo ImageSurface, and I expose it like so: def preview(...): surface = cairo.ImageSurface(cairo.FORMAT_ARGB32, width, height) ... cherrypy.response.headers['Content-Type'] = "image/png" return surface.get_data() preview.exposed = True This doesn't work (browsers report that the image has errors). I've tested that surface.write_to_png('test.png') works, but I'm not sure what to dump the data into to return it. I'm guessing some file-like object? According to the pycairo documentation, get_data() returns a buffer. I've also now tried: tempf = os.tmpfile() surface.write_to_png(tempf) return tempf Also, is it better to create and hold this image in memory (like I'm trying to do) or write it to disk as a temp file and serve it from there? I only need the image once, then it can be discarded.

Any pecularities of virtual methods or methods overloading/resolution in Java involved here? Any direct reference to Java Lang Spec? Which term describes this behaviour?   • Stream a file to the HTTP response in Pylons

    I have a Pylons controller action that needs to return a file to the client. (The file is outside the web root, so I can't just link directly to it.) The simplest way is, of course, this: with open(filepath, 'rb') as f: response.write(f.read()) That works, but it's obviously inefficient for large files. What's the best way to do this? I haven't been able to find any convenient methods in Pylons to stream the contents of the file. Do I really have to write the code to read a chunk at a time myself from scratch?

    We are facing one issue directly connected with our Flash API we've given to a 3rd party flash vendor. To make a long story short, our API basically wraps domain logic on client and creates a single POST request towards the server in JSON format. All will be ok except in combination MacOS + Safari we receive double requests on server (?). Even more interesting, we are receiving different agent names - one is expected name/decriptor of the browser and system, other is "CFNetwork".   • http streaming using java servlet

    I have a servlet based web application which produces two sets of data. One set of data in the webpage which is essential and other set which is optional. I would like to render the essential data as fast as possible and then stream the optional data. I was thinking of writing the essential data to the output stream of HttpServletRequest and then call HttpServletRequest.flushBuffer() to commit the response to the client, but do not return from the servlet code, but instead create the optional data , write that to the outputstream again and then return from servlet code. What are the things that could go wrong in this scheme ? Is this a standard practice to achieve this goal?

  • Accept-Encoding headers being sent by browser but not received by server

    I have been trying to debug this for weeks. All of the browsers on all of the clients on my home network are sending 'Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate'. However, that header is somehow, somewhere being dropped before the request makes it to a web server. For example, http://www.whatsmyip.org/http_compression/ says 'No, your browser is not requesting compressed content'. I've used Fiddler to make sure that all of my browsers are indeed sending the header. I've swapped out my router. I've turned off all anti-virus software. Brighthouse/Roadrunner (the local cable ISP) says they are not doing any filtering (and I can't see why they would in this case). Any suggestions would be most welcome!

How can I have it stream the file to the server?

I know I could do network sniffing (Wireshark/Ethereal) but isn't there a simple "proxy" app that can do this? I found trivialproxy but the links are broken :(

    Hi, In one of my application I'm using the WebClient class to download files from a web server. Depending on the web server sometimes the application download millions of documents. It seems to be when there are lot of documents, performance vise the WebClient doesn't scale up well. Also it seems to be the WebClient doesn't immediately close the connection it opened for the WebServer even after it successfully download the particular document.   • C++ method chaining including class constructor

    Hello, I'm trying to implement method chaining in C++, which turns out to be quite easy if the constructor call of a class is a separate statement, e.g: Foo foo; foo.bar().baz(); But as soon as the constructor call becomes part of the method chain, the compiler complains about expecting ";" in place of "." immediately after the constructor call: Foo foo().bar().baz(); I'm wondering now if this is actually possible in C++. Here is my test class: class Foo { public: Foo() { } Foo& bar() { return *this; } Foo& baz() { return *this; } }; I also found an example for "fluent interfaces" in C++ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluent_interface#C.2B.2B) which seems to be exactly what I'm searching for.     Ok so I've been reading up on HTTP and found this page. This is an example HTTP request that was posted there: GET /http.html Http1.1 Host: www.http.header.free.fr Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, Accept-Language: Fr Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 4.0) Connection: Keep-Alive I tried it in telnet and it worked. But everywhere else I see this kind of request line GET /http.html HTTP/1.1 The important different is that HTTP is all caps and the / character. Are they both correct? They both seem to work on the sites I've tested it on. I've skimmed the RFC of HTTP but didn't find anything of use. Has anyone else seen this kind of request header? Is it officially supported?
