• Reasons of getting a java.lang.VerifyError

  I'm investigating the following java.lang.VerifyError java.lang.VerifyError: (class: be/post/ehr/wfm/application/serviceorganization/report/DisplayReportServlet, method: getMonthData signature: (IILjava/util/Collection;Ljava/util/Collection;Ljava/util/HashMap;Ljava/util/Collection;Ljava/util/Locale;Lorg/apache/struts/util/MessageRe˜̴MtÌ´MÚw€mçw€mp:”MŒŒ at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Class.java:2357) at java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Class.java:2671) It occurs when the jboss server in which the servlet is deployed is started. It is compiled with jdk-1.5.0_11 and I tried to recompile it with jdk-1.5.0_15 without succes. That is the compilation runs fine but when deployed, the java.lang.VerifyError occurs. The actual method signature is private PgasePdfTable getMonthData(int month, int year, Collection dayTypes, Collection calendarDays, HashMap bcSpecialDays, Collection activityPeriods, Locale locale, MessageResources resources) throws Exception { I already tried looking to it with javap and that gives the method signature as it should be. When my other colleagues check out the code, compile it and deploy it, they have the same problem. When the build server picks up the code and deploys it on development or testing environments (HPUX), the same error occurs. Also an automated testing machine running ubuntu shows the same error during server startup. The rest of the application runs ok, only that one servlet is out of order. Any ideas where to look would be helpful.

• PHP/Java Bridge - Access Java objects in PHP

  I have a Red5 application which defines some public Java methods. When I start the server, an object of the application class gets created. I am trying to call the public methods of the application class from PHP using the existing instance of the Java application class. So here's my Java application: public class App extends org.red5.server.adapter.ApplicationAdapter { public boolean appStart(IScope app) { // This method gets called when the application starts // and an object of this App class is created. return true; } // This is the method I would like to call from PHP. public void f() { } } From PHP, I would like to get access to the App object that is created and call the method f() on it. I have tried playing around with this thing called "context". So in the Java method App.appStart(), I did this: // Save a reference to this App object to be retrieved later in PHP. new PhpScriptContextFactory().getContext().put("x", this); And in PHP, I tried to access the saved object like this: require_once("http://localhost:5080/JavaBridge/java/Java.inc"); var_dump(java_is_null(java_context()->get("x"))); Unfortunately, the java_is_null() function in PHP returns true. I also tried saving the App object in a static variable of App class but when I access that variable in PHP, its value is null.

  Has anyone used XHTML Doclet, and can you provide some hints as to how to get it to work successfully? • "io: postinst-must-call-ldconfig" when creating a package

  I'm trying to create an ubuntu .deb package for the (pretty awesome) Io Language. I am not the developer of that language, so I'm not familiar with its sourcecode yet. This is my first attempt at creating a .deb file. In order to create the .deb, I'm following these instructions: http://www.webupd8.org/2010/01/how-to-create-deb-package-ubuntu-debian.html So far I've been able to create a .deb file (io_2010.06.01-1_amd64.deb) and a changes file (io_201.06.01-1_amd64.changes). I'm using lintian to check the changes file, and it reports an issue I don't know how to resolve: $ lintian -Ivi io_2010.06.01-1_amd64.changes ... (lots of messages) I: io: no-symbols-control-file usr/lib/libiovmall.so I: io: no-symbols-control-file usr/lib/libgarbagecollector.so I: io: no-symbols-control-file usr/lib/libbasekit.so E: io: postinst-must-call-ldconfig usr/lib/libiovmall.so N: N: The package installs shared libraries in a directory controlled by the N: dynamic library loader. Therefore, the package must call "ldconfig" in N: its postinst script. N: N: Refer to Debian Policy Manual section 8.1.1 (ldconfig) for details. N: N: Severity: serious, Certainty: certain N: N: Removing /tmp/OYuNShEHYz ... I've read the debian manual 8.8 section. I think I understand what the problem is (I need to make sure that ldconfig is invoked "somewhere", possibly on a place called "posinst") but I don't know how to resolve it (i.e. where this "posinsts" file is and how should I change it). The current way of installing Io in Ubuntu is basically running sudo make install and then sudo ldconfig. Maybe the makefile should be modified so ldconfig is called from it? I don't know. • Java File I/O problems

  This is my first time working with file i/o in java, and it's not working. The section of the program where I parse individual lines and output a semicolon delimited line works like a charm when I hardcode a file and display on screen. Whne I try to write to a file public static OutputStream... errors out as an illegal start to expression, and I've been unable to get the program to step through an entire directory of files instead of one at a time. Where I'm not clear: I'm note setting an output filename anywhere...whare am I supposed to do that? The path variable won't pass. What's the proper format for a path?   It doesn't matter if it is 50 billion or 24 billion, just suffice it to stay that there will be MANY connected devices in the year 2020. With just 24 billion devices, they will outnumber humans six to one! So as a developer, you don't want to ignore this opportunity. What if you could use your Java skills and deploy an app to a fraction of these devices (don't be greedy, how about just, say, 118,000 of them)? Fareed Suliman, Java ME Product Manager had lots of good news for Java Developers in his presentation Modernizing the Explosion of Advanced Microcontrollers with Embedded Java at ARM TechCon in Santa Clara, CA last week. "A radical architecture shift is underway in this space, from proprietary to standards-based," he explained.  He pointed out several advantages to using Embedded Java for devices: Java is a proven and open standard. Java provides connectivity, encryption, location, and web services APIs. You don't have to focus on and keep reinventing the plumbing below the JVM. Abstracting the software from the hardware allows you to repeat your app across many devices. Abstracting the software from the hardware allows allows parallel development so you can get your app done more quickly. You already know Java (or you can hire lots of Java talent). Java is a full ecosystem, with Java Embedded plugins for IDEs like Eclipse and NetBeans. Java ME allows for in-field software upgrades. Suliman mentioned two ways developers can start using Java Embedded today:  Java ME Embedded Suite 7.0 Oracle Java Embedded Suite is a new packaged solution from Oracle (including Java DB, GlassFish for Embedded Suite, Jersey Web Services Framework, and Oracle Java SE Embedded 7 platform), created to provide value added services for collecting, managing, and transmitting data to embedded devices such as gateways and concentrators. Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 is designed and optimized to meet the unique requirements of small embedded, low power devices such as micro-controllers and other resource-constrained hardware without screens or user interfaces. • Delete a line from a file in java

  Ok, so I'm trying to delete lines from a text file with java. Currently the way I'm doing this, is I'm keep track of a line number and inputting an index. The index is the line I want deleted. So each time I read a new line of data I increment the line count. Now when I reach the line count that is the same index, I dont write the data to the temporary file. Now this works, but what if for example I'm working with huge files and I have to worry about memory restraints. How can I do this with.. file markers? For example.. place the file marker on the line I want to do delete. Then delete that line? Or is that just too much work?

• Java how to copy part of a file

  I have to read a file and depending of the content of the last lines, I have to copy most of its content into a new file. Unfortunately I didn't found a way to copy first n lines or chars of a file in java. The only way I found, is copying the file using nio FileChannels where I can specifiy the length in bytes. However, therefore I would need to know how many bytes the stuff I read needed in the source-file. Does anyone know a solution for one of these problems?

• Why Doesn't This Java Code Skip Lines with #?

  I'm trying to allow an external .txt file that is read by a Java script be able to have some comments in the beginning of the file so others can easily edit it and add more to it. But if the file contains # (the sign designated for a line that is a comment) it just returns the error that there is a "Format Error in file" (the IOException - so it is getting past that first "IF"...) Can someone help?   I've a java process that is working on some large data set in memory. I've seen it crash with a SIGSEGV signal sometimes, so i was wondering some potential causes and fixes could do. When accessed via Windows Explorer, I can't move, rename, delete, or even open the file. Under Cygwin, I get the following when I ls -l the directory: ls: cannot access [big-honkin-filename] total 0 ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? [big-honkin-filename] As implied, the filenames are big, but under the 260-character max for XP (though they are slightly over 200 characters). To further add to the sense the my computer just wants me to feel stupid, sometimes the files created by this code are perfectly normal. The only pattern I've spotted is that once one file in the directory "locks", the rest are screwed. Anybody ever run into something like this before, or have any insights into what's going on here?

This project has to be built up in java and protocol for file transfer in tcp/ip. Client does not want to use FTP. File Transfer seems very easy, until there are several processes who are waiting to pick the file up automatically. Several problems arise: How can we guarantee the file is received at the destination? If a file isn’t received the first time, we should try it again (even after a restart or power breakdown) ? How does the receiver knows the file that is received is complete? How can we transfer multiple files synchronously? How can we protect the bandwidth, so file transfer isn’t blocking other processes?   I'm writing a genetic algorithm that needs to read/write lots of files. The fitness test for the GA is invoking a program called gradif, which takes a file as input and produces a file as output. Everything is working except when I make the population size and/or the total number of generations of the genetic algorithm too large. Then, after so many generations, I start getting this: java.io.FileNotFoundException: testfiles/GradifOut29 (Too many open files). (I get it repeatedly for many different files, the index 29 was just the one that came up first last time I ran it). It's strange because I'm not getting the error after the first or second generation, but after a significant amount of generations, which would suggest that each generation opens up more files that it doesn't close. But as far as I can tell I'm closing all of the files. The way the code is set up is the main() function is in the Population class, and the Population class contains an array of Individuals. Here's my code: Initial creation of input files (they're random access so that I could reuse the same file across multiple generations) files = new RandomAccessFile[popSize]; for(int i=0; i<popSize; i++){ files[i] = new RandomAccessFile("testfiles/GradifIn"+i, "rw"); } At the end of the entire program: for(int i=0; i<individuals.length; i++){ files[i].close(); } Inside the Individual's fitness test: FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream("testfiles/GradifIn"+index); FileOutputStream fout = new FileOutputStream("testfiles/GradifOut"+index); Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("./gradif"); OutputStream stdin = process.getOutputStream(); InputStream stdout = process.getInputStream(); Then, later.... try{ fin.close(); fout.close(); stdin.close(); stdout.close(); process.getErrorStream().close(); }catch (IOException ioe){ ioe.printStackTrace(); } Then, afterwards, I append an 'END' to the files to make parsing them easier. It should also be noted that the Individuals' fitness tests run concurrently. UPDATE: I've actually been able to narrow it down to the exec() call. In my most recent run, I first ran in to trouble at generation 733 (with a population size of 100). Why are the earlier generations fine? I don't understand why, if there's no leaking, the algorithm should be able to pass earlier generations but fail on later generations. And if there is leaking, then where is it coming from? UPDATE2: In trying to figure out what's going on here, I would like to be able to see (preferably in real-time) how many files the JVM has open at any given point. Is there an easy way to do that?
