  • file doesn't open, running outside of debugger results in seg fault (c++)

    - by misterich
    Hello (and thanks in advance) I'm in a bit of a quandry, I cant seem to figure out why I'm seg faulting. A couple of notes: It's for a course -- and sadly I am required to use use C-strings instead of std::string. Please dont fix my code (I wont learn that way and I will keep bugging you). please just point out the flaws in my logic and suggest a different function/way. platform: gcc version 4.4.1 on Suse Linux 11.2 (2.6.31 kernel) Here's the code main.cpp: // /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // INCLUDES (C/C++ Std Library) #include <cstdlib> /// EXIT_SUCCESS, EXIT_FAILURE #include <iostream> /// cin, cout, ifstream #include <cassert> /// assert // /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // DEPENDENCIES (custom header files) #include "dict.h" /// Header for the dictionary class // /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // PRE-PROCESSOR CONSTANTS #define ENTER '\n' /// Used to accept new lines, quit program. #define SPACE ' ' /// One way to end the program // /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // CUSTOM DATA TYPES /// File Namespace -- keep it local namespace { /// Possible program prompts to display for the user. enum FNS_Prompts { fileName_, /// prints out the name of the file noFile_, /// no file was passed to the program tooMany_, /// more than one file was passed to the program noMemory_, /// Not enough memory to use the program usage_, /// how to use the program word_, /// ask the user to define a word. notFound_, /// the word is not in the dictionary done_, /// the program is closing normally }; } // /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Namespace using namespace std; /// Nothing special in the way of namespaces // /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // FUNCTIONS /** prompt() prompts the user to do something, uses enum Prompts for parameter. */ void prompt(FNS_Prompts msg /** determines the prompt to use*/) { switch(msg) { case fileName_ : { cout << ENTER << ENTER << "The file name is: "; break; } case noFile_ : { cout << ENTER << ENTER << "...Sorry, a dictionary file is needed. • How to make an application scriptable in Linux

    - by arx
    I've written an application in C++ that takes a complex binary file format and translates it into human-readable text. Having edited the text you can recompile it back into the binary file format. This would be more useful if the application's internal object model was scriptable. On Windows I'd expose the objects using COM or .Net but I want this to work on Linux. I could embed a scripting language but that's a fair bit of work, and limits users to the scripting language I choose. Ideally, I'm looking for some way of exposing a scriptable DOM from my application that is: Widely support in scripting languages (without writing language-specific wrappers) Cross-platform (but Linux support is most important) In-process (but this isn't essential)

  • Bash Shell Scripting Errors: ./myDemo: 56: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string [EDITED]

    - by ???
    Could someone take a look at this code and find out what's wrong with it? #!/bin/sh while : do echo " Select one of the following options:" echo " d or D) Display today's date and time" echo " l or L) List the contents of the present working directory" echo " w or W) See who is logged in" echo " p or P) Print the present working directory" echo " a or A) List the contents of a specified directory" echo " b or B) Create a backup copy of an ordinary file" echo " q or Q) Quit this program" echo " Enter your option and hit <Enter>: \c" read option case "$option" in d|D) date ;; l|L) ls $PWD ;; w|w) who ;; p|P) pwd ;; a|A) echo "Please specify the directory and hit <Enter>: \c" read directory if [ "$directory = "q" -o "Q" ] then exit 0 fi while [ ! -d "$directory" ] do echo "Usage: "$directory" must be a directory." echo "Re-enter the directory and hit <Enter>: \c" read directory if [ "$directory" = "q" -o "Q" ] then exit 0 fi done printf ls "$directory" ;; b|B) echo "Please specify the ordinary file for backup and hit <Enter>: \c" read file if [ "$file" = "q" -o "Q" ] then exit 0 fi while [ ! -f "$file" ] do echo "Usage: \"$file\" must be an ordinary file." echo "Re-enter the ordinary file for backup and hit <Enter>: \c" read file if [ "$file" = "q" -o "Q" ] then exit 0 fi done cp "$file" "$file.bkup" ;; q|Q) exit 0 ;; esac echo done exit 0 There are some syntax errors that I can't figure out. However I should note that on this unix system echo -e doesn't work (don't ask me why I don't know and I don't have any sort of permissions to change it and even if I wouldn't be allowed to) Bash Shell Scripting Error: "./myDemo ./myDemo: line 62: syntax error near unexpected token done' ./myDemo: line 62: " [Edited] EDIT: I fixed the while statement error, however now when I run the script some things still aren't working correctly. It seems that in the b|B) switch statement cp $file $file.bkup doesn't actually copy the file to file.bkup ? I.e something similar to NetBeans?

  • .net mvc pass dictionary data from view to controller

    - by Wei Ma
    A while ago, I was trying to pass a dictionary data from my view to my controller. And I was able to do so after googling on the net(remember it was one of scott hanselman's posts). The solution I had was something like <%for(int index=0; index<Model.Count(); index++){ var property= Model.ElementAt(index);%> <input type="hidden" name="<%="properties["+index+"].Key"%>"/> <input type="hidden" name="<%="properties["+index+"].Value"%>"/> <%}%> public ActionResult Process(IDictionary<string,string> properties) { doSomething(); return View(); } The code worked for awhile and then I did some refactoring and got rid of this chunk of code. Today, I ran into a situation in which I would like to pass a dictionary again. But no matter how hard I try, the properties parameter received by the action was always null. I tried the above code and <%for(int index=0; index<Model.Count(); index++){ var property= Model.ElementAt(index);%> <input type="hidden" name="<%="properties.Keys["+index+"]"%>"/> <input type="hidden" name="<%="properties.Values["+index+"]"%>"/> <%}%> Neither code worked. I googled again but couldn't find the post that helped me before. Can someone point out what I did wrong? thanks a million.

  • How to save/retrieve words to/from SQlite database?

    - by user998032
    Sorry if I repeat my question but I have still had no clues of what to do and how to deal with the question. My app is a dictionary. I assume that users will need to add words that they want to memorise to a Favourite list. Thus, I created a Favorite button that works on two phases: short-click to save the currently-view word into the Favourite list; and long-click to view the Favourite list so that users can click on any words to look them up again. I go for using a SQlite database to store the favourite words but I wonder how I can do this task. Specifically, my questions are: Should I use the current dictionary SQLite database or create a new SQLite database to favorite words? In each case, what codes do I have to write to cope with the mentioned task? Could anyone there kindly help? Here is the dictionary code: package mydict.app; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException; import android.util.Log; public class DictionaryEngine { static final private String SQL_TAG = "[MyAppName - DictionaryEngine]"; private SQLiteDatabase mDB = null; private String mDBName; private String mDBPath; //private String mDBExtension; public ArrayList<String> lstCurrentWord = null; public ArrayList<String> lstCurrentContent = null; //public ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = null; public DictionaryEngine() { lstCurrentContent = new ArrayList<String>(); lstCurrentWord = new ArrayList<String>(); } public DictionaryEngine(String basePath, String dbName, String dbExtension) { //mDBExtension = getResources().getString(R.string.dbExtension); //mDBExtension = dbExtension; lstCurrentContent = new ArrayList<String>(); lstCurrentWord = new ArrayList<String>(); this.setDatabaseFile(basePath, dbName, dbExtension); } public boolean setDatabaseFile(String basePath, String dbName, String dbExtension) { if (mDB != null) { if (mDB.isOpen() == true) // Database is already opened { if (basePath.equals(mDBPath) && dbName.equals(mDBName)) // the opened database has the same name and path -> do nothing { Log.i(SQL_TAG, "Database is already opened!"); return true; } else { mDB.close(); } } } String fullDbPath=""; try { fullDbPath = basePath + dbName + "/" + dbName + dbExtension; mDB = SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase(fullDbPath, null, SQLiteDatabase.OPEN_READWRITE|SQLiteDatabase.NO_LOCALIZED_COLLATORS); } catch (SQLiteException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); Log.i(SQL_TAG, "There is no valid dictionary database " + dbName +" at path " + basePath); return false; } if (mDB == null) { return false; } this.mDBName = dbName; this.mDBPath = basePath; Log.i(SQL_TAG,"Database " + dbName + " is opened!"); return true; } public void getWordList(String word) { String query; // encode input String wordEncode = Utility.encodeContent(word); if (word.equals("") || word == null) { query = "SELECT id,word FROM " + mDBName + " LIMIT 0,15" ; } else { query = "SELECT id,word FROM " + mDBName + " WHERE word >= '"+wordEncode+"' LIMIT 0,15"; } //Log.i(SQL_TAG, "query = " + query); Cursor result = mDB.rawQuery(query,null); int indexWordColumn = result.getColumnIndex("Word"); int indexContentColumn = result.getColumnIndex("Content"); if (result != null) { int countRow=result.getCount(); Log.i(SQL_TAG, "countRow = " + countRow); lstCurrentWord.clear(); lstCurrentContent.clear(); if (countRow >= 1) { result.moveToFirst(); String strWord = Utility.decodeContent(result.getString(indexWordColumn)); String strContent = Utility.decodeContent(result.getString(indexContentColumn)); lstCurrentWord.add(0,strWord); lstCurrentContent.add(0,strContent); int i = 0; while (result.moveToNext()) { strWord = Utility.decodeContent(result.getString(indexWordColumn)); strContent = Utility.decodeContent(result.getString(indexContentColumn)); lstCurrentWord.add(i,strWord); lstCurrentContent.add(i,strContent); i++; } } result.close(); } } public Cursor getCursorWordList(String word) { String query; // encode input String wordEncode = Utility.encodeContent(word); if (word.equals("") || word == null) { query = "SELECT id,word FROM " + mDBName + " LIMIT 0,15" ; } else { query = "SELECT id,content,word FROM " + mDBName + " WHERE word >= '"+wordEncode+"' LIMIT 0,15"; } //Log.i(SQL_TAG, "query = " + query); Cursor result = mDB.rawQuery(query,null); return result; } public Cursor getCursorContentFromId(int wordId) { String query; // encode input if (wordId <= 0) { return null; } else { query = "SELECT id,content,word FROM " + mDBName + " WHERE Id = " + wordId ; } //Log.i(SQL_TAG, "query = " + query); Cursor result = mDB.rawQuery(query,null); return result; } public Cursor getCursorContentFromWord(String word) { String query; // encode input if (word == null || word.equals("")) { return null; } else { query = "SELECT id,content,word FROM " + mDBName + " WHERE word = '" + word + "' LIMIT 0,1"; } //Log.i(SQL_TAG, "query = " + query); Cursor result = mDB.rawQuery(query,null); return result; } public void closeDatabase() { mDB.close(); } public boolean isOpen() { return mDB.isOpen(); } public boolean isReadOnly() { return mDB.isReadOnly(); } } And here is the code below the Favourite button to save to and load the Favourite list: btnAddFavourite = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.btnAddFavourite); btnAddFavourite.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // Add code here to save the favourite, e.g. in the db. Toast toast = Toast.makeText(ContentView.this, R.string.messageWordAddedToFarvourite, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT); toast.show(); } }); btnAddFavourite.setOnLongClickListener(new View.OnLongClickListener() { @Override public boolean onLongClick(View v) { // Open the favourite Activity, which in turn will fetch the saved favourites, to show them. Intent intent = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), FavViewFavourite.class); intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); getApplicationContext().startActivity(intent); return false; } }); }

  • How to use American English spelling dictionary in Firefox?

    - by mmr
    My Firefox spellchecker was complaining this morning that I spelled 'neighbor' in the American English style, not the British English style ('neighbour'). Same is true for color (colour), analyze (analyse), etc. I've checked in the edit-preferences-content-language tab, and en-us is selected. I also found this link here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1013043 Suggesting that there's some kind of system panel I can use to ensure that I've got the right language, but I can't see where that is (I guess that's for an older Ubuntu that let people get to system settings). So either the dictionary for Firefox for en-us is corrupted, just a copy of the British English dictionary, or somehow the setting isn't propagated properly. How can I get the American dictionary back?

    My friend is using Microsoft Word for Mac (which is a total train smash). and we want to change the spell check from English (US) to English (UK). This is what I have tried: Make a spelling mistake otherwise you can't get to spelling options. Click Tools Spelling and Grammar Options Dictionaries Change language to English (UK) and click OK Type an English (US) word 'Categorize' Click Tools Spelling and Grammar - 'Spelling and Grammar check complete' i.e. it did not mark the work incorrect.

  • Where can I get the 10k common English dictionary words which Stack overflow uses in related question? [migrated]

    - by itpian.com
    Where can I get the 10k common English dictionary words which Stack overflow uses in related question? Here in SE podcast - http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2008/12/podcast-32/ One of our major performance optimizations for the “related questions” query is removing the top 10,000 most common English dictionary words (as determined by Google search) before submitting the query to the SQL Server 2008 full text engine. It’s shocking how little is left of most posts once you remove the top 10k English dictionary words. This helps limit and narrow the returned results, which makes the query dramatically faster.

  • Python, dictionaries, and chi-square contingency table

    - by rohanbk
    I have a file which contains several lines in the following format (word, time that the word occurred in, and frequency of documents containing the given word within the given instance in time): #inputfile <word, time, frequency> apple, 1, 3 banana, 1, 2 apple, 2, 1 banana, 2, 4 orange, 3, 1 I have Python class below that I used to create 2-D dictionaries to store the above file using as the key, and frequency as the value: class Ddict(dict): ''' 2D dictionary class ''' def __init__(self, default=None): self.default = default def __getitem__(self, key): if not self.has_key(key): self[key] = self.default() return dict.__getitem__(self, key) wordtime=Ddict(dict) # Store each inputfile entry with a <word,time> key timeword=Ddict(dict) # Store each inputfile entry with a <time,word> key # Loop over every line of the inputfile for line in open('inputfile'): word,time,count=line.split(',') # If <word,time> already a key, increment count try: wordtime[word][time]+=count # Otherwise, create the key except KeyError: wordtime[word][time]=count # If <time,word> already a key, increment count try: timeword[time][word]+=count # Otherwise, create the key except KeyError: timeword[time][word]=count The question that I have pertains to calculating certain things while iterating over the entries in this 2D dictionary. For each word 'w' at each time 't', calculate: The number of documents with word 'w' within time 't'. (a) The number of documents without word 'w' within time 't'. (b) The number of documents with word 'w' outside time 't'. (c) The number of documents without word 'w' outside time 't'. (d) Each of the items above represents one of the cells of a chi-square contingency table for each word and time. Can all of these be calculated within a single loop or do they need to be done one at a time? Ideally, I would like the output to be what's below, where a,b,c,d are all the items calculated above: print "%s, %s, %s, %s" %(a,b,c,d)

  • Distinct Value Array for View Controller Index Using Core Data

    - by b.dot
    Hi, I'm trying to create an index representing the first letter value of each record in a Core Data store to be used in a table view controller. I'm using a snippet of the code from Apple's documentation. I would simply like to produce an array or dictionary of distinct values as the result. My store already has the character defined within each record object. Questions: 1) I'm having a problem understanding NSDictionaryResultType. Where does the resulting dictionary object get received so that I can assign it's keys to the view controller? The code seems to only return an array. 2) If I include the line containing NSDictionaryResultType, I get no returns. 3) I realize that I could do this in a loop, but I'm hoping this will work. Thanks! NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"People" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:entity]; [request setResultType:NSDictionaryResultType]; // This line causes no no results. [request setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; [request setPropertiesToFetch :[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"alphabetIndex"]]; NSError *error; NSArray *objects = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error];

  • WPF reference style in resource dictionary and use triggers

    I have a style defined in a resource dictionary that applies to all ComboBox controls. Within the ComboBox control, I reference the style like so: Style="{DynamicResource MyComboBoxStyle}" This works ok. I want to be able to add some triggers to some of the ComboBox controls. What is a good way to use the style referenced as a dynamic resource yet still be able to add triggers to some of the ComboBox controls?

    - by Valentin
    Hi. I wanted to know is C# array has a constant access speed? I need to store 1000 items in static array, that will be initialized during server startup. This array will be used readonly, so there will be no changes to array. Should I use a simple C# array (new MyClass[]) or Dictionary instead. I am really new to C# and trying to understand how C# arrays access works. Can they be compared to c++ arrays by speed?

  • python destructuring-bind dictionary contents

    - by Stephen
    Hi, I am trying to 'destructure' a dictionary and associate values with variables names after its keys. Something like params = {'a':1,'b':2} a,b = params.values() but since dictionaries are not ordered, there is no guarantee that params.values() will return values in the order of (a,b). Is there a nice way to do this? Thanks
