• How to Authenticate to Active Directory Services (ADs) using .NET 3.5 / C#

  After much struggling, I've figured out how to authenticate to my company's Active Directory using just 2 lines of code with the Domain, Username, and Password in .NET 2.0 (in C#): // set domain, username, password, and security parameters DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domain, username, password, AuthenticationTypes.Secure | AuthenticationTypes.SecureSocketsLayer); // force Bind to AD server to authenticate object obj = entry.NativeObject; If the 2nd line throws an exception, then the credentials and/or parameters were bad. (Specific reason can be found in the exception.) If no exception, then the credentials are good. Trying to do this in .NET 3.5 looks like it should be easy, but has me at a roadblock instead. Specifically, I've been working with this example: PrincipalContext domainContext = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain, domain); using (domainContext) { return domainContext.ValidateCredentials(UserName, Password); } Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me as I don't have both ContextOptions set to Sealed/Secure and SSL (like I did above in the .NET 2.0 code.) There is an alternate constructor for PrincipalContext that allows setting the ContextOptions, but this also requires supplying a Distinguished Name (DN) of a Container Object and I don't know exactly what mine is or how I would find out. public PrincipalContext(ContextType contextType, string name, string container, ContextOptions options); // container: // The container on the store to use as the root of the context. • 301 Redirect adding incorrect extra segments to a url

  I need to 301 redirect one segment of a url to a new version of it. • jQuery autocomplete - update options on dynamically created elements

  Background The user enters values into multiple inputs on the page. Think of entering a list of widgets for sale. The user would select the type of a widget from a drop down. Then enter the name of the Widget vendor, and then the actual name of the widget. These UI elements would all appear as one row. The user is able to click an "add another widget" link and a new row is created. The two input elements have autocomplete functionality attached to them using the DevBridge jQuery plugin. It suggests the name of the vendor and the name of the widget. I have recently wired up the logic to filter the name of the widget based on the name of the vendor you entered. This means setting the (custom) vendorName parameter when attaching the autocomplete plugin so it can be passed to the server side to retrieve the widget names for that vendor that match the name the user entered. To achieve this functionality I'm dynamically attaching the autocomplete functionality to the second element (the widget name text box) when it receives focus. Here is an example: $('.autocomplete-widget').live('focus', function () { $(this).autocomplete({ serviceUrl: '/something.ashx', params: { type: 'widget', vendorName: $(this).parent().prev().find('.autocomplete-vendor').val()} }); }); Problem At first glance, this looks to function quite well. However I started noticing some inconsistencies, and upon inspection, I found out that the call to the server is actually happening several times in some cases. Each time the widget name input element receives focus the autocomplete functionality is attached. And what I'm seeing is that the call to the server is made in proportion to how many times the input element has gained focus. I'd like to avoid making the call more than once, but retain the ability to attach (or update) the autocomplete functionality "on focus". I've tried to use the autocomplete 'setOptions' method but have only been able to get it to work with the static elements, not the dynamically created elements. Question Is there a way I can clear out the autocomplete functionality before I attach another one?

• Linq to SQL and concurrency with Rob Conery repository pattern

  I have implemented a DAL using Rob Conery's spin on the repository pattern (from the MVC Storefront project) where I map database objects to domain objects using Linq and use Linq to SQL to actually get the data. This is all working wonderfully giving me the full control over the shape of my domain objects that I want, but I have hit a problem with concurrency that I thought I'd ask about here. I have concurrency working but the solution feels like it might be wrong (just one of those gitchy feelings). The basic pattern is: private MyDataContext _datacontext private Table _tasks; public Repository(MyDataContext datacontext) { _dataContext = datacontext; } public void GetTasks() { _tasks = from t in _dataContext.Tasks; return from t in _tasks select new Domain.Task { Name = t.Name, Id = t.TaskId, Description = t.Description }; } public void SaveTask(Domain.Task task) { Task dbTask = null; // Logic for new tasks omitted... dbTask = (from t in _tasks where t.TaskId == task.Id select t).SingleOrDefault(); dbTask.Description = task.Description, dbTask.Name = task.Name, _dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } So with that implementation I've lost concurrency tracking because of the mapping to the domain task. I get it back by storing the private Table which is my datacontext list of tasks at the time of getting the original task. I then update the tasks from this stored Table and save what I've updated This is working - I get change conflict exceptions raised when there are concurrency violations, just as I want. However, it just screams to me that I've missed a trick. Is there a better way of doing this? I've looked at the .Attach method on the datacontext but that appears to require storing the original version in a similar way to what I'm already doing. I also know that I could avoid all this by doing away with the domain objects and letting the Linq to SQL generated objects all the way up my stack - but I dislike that just as much as I dislike the way I'm handling concurrency.

• Android SeekBar Minimum and Continuous Float Value Attributes

  I'm looking for a way to implement a minimum value in my SeekBar and also have the option to increment decimal numbers. For example, currently my SeekBar's minimum is set to 0, but I need it to start at the value 0.2. Also, I would like to have the functionality to be able to have the user select a number from 0.2 to 10.0 at a .1 precision so they can choose the numbers 5.6 or 7.1. • MSBuild 2010 - how to publish web app to a specific location (nant)?

  I'm trying to get MSBuild 2010 to publish a web app to a specific location. I can get it to publish the deployment package to a particular path, but the deployment package then adds it's own path that changes. For example: if I tell it to publish to C:\dev\build\Output\Debug then the actual web files end up at C:\dev\build\Output\Debug\Archive\Content\C_C\code\sawadee\frontend\IPP-FrontEnd\Source\ControllersViews\obj\Debug\Package\PackageTmp And the C_C part of the path changes (not sure how it chooses this part of the path). This means I can't just script a copy from the publish location.   I'm writing a bash script to sync my iTunes music directory to a directory on a removable hard drive. The script works fine when there is absolutely nothing in the folder on the external hard drive. Once all files have been copied to the external drive, then the script begins to act strange. Even though i just sync'd everything over, it proceeds to recopy certain files again.   Hello! Im usign a Ribbon Window and in the "content area beneath" I have a grid in which I will be displaying UserControls. I thought that this could be done by defining a custom category, example.custom.ACTIVITY, and in the mainActivity use the packageManager.queryIntentActivities(Intent intent, int flags) but it doesn't seem to be working. I really would like to code it to dinamically discover the installed activities in my application. Do you have any ideas on how to do this? Thank you

• Creating A Single Generic Handler For Agatha?

  I'm using the Agatha request/response library (and StructureMap, as utilized by Agatha 1.0.5.0) for a service layer that I'm prototyping, and one thing I've noticed is the large number of handlers that need to be created. It generally makes sense that any request/response type pair would need their own handler. However, as this scales to a large enterprise environment that's going to be A LOT of handlers. What I've started doing is dividing up the enterprise domain into logical processor classes (dozens of processors instead of many hundreds or possibly eventually thousands handlers). The convention is that each request/response type (all of which inherit from a domain base request/response pair, which inherit from Agatha's) gets exactly one function in a processor somewhere. The generic handler (which inherits from Agatha's RequestHandler) then uses reflection in the Handle method to find the method for the given TREQUEST/TRESPONSE and invoke it. If it can't find one or if it finds more than one, it returns a TRESPONSE containing an error message (messages are standardized in the domain's base response class). The goal here is to allow developers across the enterprise to just concern themselves with writing their request/response types and processor functions in the domain and not have to spend additional overhead creating handler classes which would all do exactly the same thing (pass control to a processor function). However, it seems that I still need to have defined a handler class (albeit empty, since the base handler takes care of everything) for each request/response type pair. Otherwise, the following exception is thrown when dispatching a request to the service: StructureMap Exception Code: 202 No Default Instance defined for PluginFamily Agatha.ServiceLayer.IRequestHandler`1[[TSFG.Domain.DTO.Actions.HelloWorldRequest, TSFG.Domain.DTO, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null]], Agatha.ServiceLayer, Version=1.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6f21cf452a4ffa13 Is there a way that I'm not seeing to tell StructureMap and/or Agatha to always use the base handler class for all request/response type pairs? Or maybe to use Reflection.Emit to generate empty handlers in memory at application start just to satisfy the requirement? I'm not 100% familiar with these libraries and am learning as I go along, but so far my attempts at both those possible approaches have been unsuccessful. Can anybody offer some advice on solving this, or perhaps offer another approach entirely?

  My current setup using hibernate uses the hibernate.reveng.xml file to generate the various hbm.xml files. Which are then turned into POJOs using hbm2java. We spent some time while designing our schema, to place some pretty decent descriptions on the Tables and there columns. I am able to pull these descriptions into the hbm.xml files when generating them using hbm2jhbmxml. • Problem with Chrome - embed windows media player

  Hi. I am having a problem. I embed WMP in my page, and I need to hide buttons from player. I make it to hide them in IE and FF, but I can't make it happen in Google Chrome. • ocunit testing on iPhone

  Hi I am trying to get ocunit working in my project from XCode. Since I also need to debug in the unit tests I am using a script that automates the setup (see below). I just include it in the project under resources and change the name to the .ocunit file I want it to run. The problem I get is that it cant find the bundle file and therefore exists with an error. Can anyone who has a clue about XCode and objective-c take a look at it and tell me what is wrong. Also how am I supposed to produce the .ocunit file that I need to run.
