  • VirtualBox Mac - Is it possible re-map a key for a VM

    I am running Windows inside VirtualBox on Mac OSX. However, I am frequently copying and pasting/undoing etc using keyboard shortcuts. Because Mac is dumb and tries to be different, common shortcuts such as ctrl+c and ctrl+v are cmd+c and cmd+v on Mac. This creates a problem because I keep trying to use mac-style shortcuts in the VM, or windows-style shortcuts on the Mac (my workflow is, do ASP.NET dev in the VM, but use the Mac hosts browser). What I would like to be able to do is make VirtualBox send "Command" key presses as "Ctrl" to the VM, so that I dont have to keep remembering which environment I am in and thinking about which key combination I need to use. Is this possible?

  • Quickest way to run IISRESET as administrator

    Trying to optimize my day here, making do with IIS... When executing IISRESET from the Run dialog or from cmd.exe, I get an access denied error. So executing IISRESET gets annoying - involving both mouse and keyboard: Start - Run - cmd (right-click, Run as Administrator) Agree to the UAC dialog Type iisreset, hit enter I'm looking to be able to run IISRESET as quickly as possible. Ideally I could just go Start - Run - iisreset - Enter, and the UAC prompt would pop up. I tried to enable "Run this program as an Administrator" but it was greyed out, even when I opened the properties dialog as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. Thinking of making a Visual Studio macro and a toolbar button; anyone got any other ideas?

  • Skype keypad tones

    Hi, When I push a number on the Skype keypad (or use the number keys on the keyboard) no tone is emitted. This happens both when dialling a number and if I push a key during a call. This makes it impossible for me to use Skype with automated telephone systems that require you to use the keypad to enter data or choose between various options. I spoke to somebody who works in a call centre about this and they indicated that somebody had mentioned that it's possible to disable (DTMF) tones in Skype. I've looked through all the Skype options and can't find any way to enable/disable DTMF tones. If somebody knows how I can do this, or has another suggestion for fixing the problem, please let me know. I'm using version 4.2.0.152 of Skype. Thanks, Don

  • MonoTouch and CoreBluetooth Low Energy Required?

    We are making MFi hardware and an iOS app. We will want to have the BT device notify our app even if we are not running periodically when certain events happen. I know the CoreBluetooth API is the one to use, but can't tell for sure if that API only works with BT Low Energy devices or if it will also work with regular (MFi of course) BT 2.1 and higher devices. So my question is: Does the CoreBluetooth API only work with Bluetooth Low Energy devices or will it also work with 2.1 devices?

  • How to Shutdown PC by Pressing Power Button without asking "Force Close"?

    I always Hibernate my PC. Sometimes when I boot, it does not recognize the mouse/keyboard or any USB devices. I've also setup it to go in sleep in 5 minutes. In that case I can't restart the PC so that USB starts working. When I press the Power button then it starts shutdown but asks confirmation twice, one is for shutdown by force confirmation and then there is one more. When my USB is disabled I can't input these options. So I switch off the power. What I want is that upon pressing Power Button it should at once start shutdown without asking any more confirmations System details: Win-7 Home Premium 64 bit Intel i3 530 Asus P montherboard EDIT: It is Desktop PC

    We recently had an issues where I had rebooted our EC2 instance (Ubuntu x86_64, version 9.10 server) and due to an EC2 issue the instance needed to be stopped and was down for a few days. Now I have been able to bring the instance back online I cannot connect to SSH using the keypair which previously worked. Unfortunately SSH is the only way to get into this server, and while I have another system running in its place there are a number of things I would like to try and retrieve from the machine.     I have three check boxes and need to disable the third if either and/or of the other two are checked. I'm sure there's a easier way than what I have currently. It's turning into what I believe is a mess and I'm hoping that someone with more jquery knowledge can shine the light here. I don't understand why. This works, but one of the requirements is that a non programmer should be able to edit and maintain this. Ideally it'd be great if he could just add new check boxes to the html and it would work. The class for these are define and as far as I know can't be changed. The last check box in the list of check boxes will disable if any of the ones above are selected. Like wise if the last check box is selected, it will disable all the ones above it. I haven't even begun writing and testing that portion as this is quickly becoming too complicated for a non programmer to handle. I myself am more of a PHP coder than a js, let alone jquery, coder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TPL also provides an abstraction for operations via Task and cancellation abilities. My dilemma is when to use which and for what scenarios?

  • Windows 7 randomly installs an "Unknown Device" successfully

    Rarely (several days to weeks between occurrences,) and seemingly at random, I get a balloon notification from Windows 7 (x64 SP1 Home Premium) that it is installing hardware for me. Whatever is being installed does so without error. However, no new hardware has been installed or plugged in! When I click the balloon it doesn't give me any useful information: Looking in the event log, I find this entry: Event ID: 20001 Source: UserPnp Task Category: 7005 Message: Driver Management concluded the process to install driver FileRepository\usb.inf_amd64_neutral_153b489118ee37b8\usb.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\6&3AF9A177&0&0060&&02 with the following status: 0x0. It appears to be USB related. My motherboard has both USB 2.0 and 3.0 controllers. My keyboard and mouse are plugged into the 2.0 slots and the data/recharge cable for a tablet (but not the tablet itself) was plugged in to the 3.0 slot. No other USB devices have been attached for several days/reboots. Why is Windows doing this?

    I am writing a custom control based on RichTextBox that needs the ability to process MouseLeftButtonDown events but must not allow user-initiated selection (I'm doing everything programmatically). I tried setting a flag in MouseLeftButtonDown to track dragging and then continuously setting the RichTextBox.Selection to nothing in the MouseMove event but the move event isn't fired until after I release the mouse button. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks.

  • ClearOS - how to avoid getting stuck at a fsck message at boot?

    I have had this happen a couple times - I have a ClearOS Enterprise 5.2 box, and due to a power outage or similar, it ends up showing an error at boot and saying that fsck needs to be run (I think it said with (or without?) the -a parameter). The problem is, I need this box to be headless, at a remote location (miles away)! SO, I need to come up with a solution on how to either have it automatically repair itself, without someone to be present with a monitor and keyboard. Another possibility is to simply avoid the issue all together - maybe there is something that can be changed so it's very unlikely to happen (I am unable to avoid the power outage of course - at least not practically). Finally, maybe it can be boot off a read only media (cd) or file system or similar? At least the base OS, so that it would always at least boot with enough configuration that might allow remote access, or basic connectivity?

  • Arbitrary Key Remapping on a Mac

    I bought a cheap Chinese replacement keyboard for my late 2007 MBP. The close square/curly bracket key actually sends a left control signal to the Mac. So I'm trying to remap my backslash/pipe key to be close square/curly bracket but I can't find the key remapping software to do it. Double Command and KeyRemap4Macbook can't do arbitrary key remaps and uControl/fkeys don't work on Snow Leopard. Anyone have ideas? I have no problem editing text config files if necessary.

  • Blackberry Development, adding dynamic number of buttons and setting Fieldchangelistener() for them

    Hi, I am adding dynamic number of buttons in a Blackberry application and trying to get different events on each button click. I am not able to apply the setchangelistener() for these array of buttons as once the loop finishes after adding all the buttons, the events gets generated only for the last indexed button. If I make us of getIndex(), it runs fine only if I am not adding any other fields on my screen, but if I add other fields along with these array of buttons, the getIndex() function count them in the indexing as well. Can anyone please help me out in setting FieldChangeListener to array of ButtonField? Here is a sample code of the way I am using the array of ButtonField.   • Installation stops with cmd.exe window on Laptop

    I am installing W7 Ent on an LG R580. I am working with a valid ISO (installs perfect on other systems). During the installation, before the installation window, the process hangs, and I get a black, cmd.exe screen with the following: Select Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] with a prompt for: X:\windows\system32 My keyboard at that time only prints capital letters with '^' before each. Only thing that I am able to do is reboot. In the bios, I tried to disable USB Legacy ( thinking the problem is with my DVD ) - did not help.
