  • Networking is broken in my VMware 10.0 VMs after upgrading to Windows 8.1

    I have a VMware Workstation 10.0 installation with several virtual networks including the default host-only and NAT networks. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the NAT network was not working. I booted an Ubuntu VM with the default network setup that was previously working, and it sat for a long time during startup saying it was waiting for the network. After it finally started up, an ifconfig showed no IP address for eth0. How can I fix the broken network?

Resources could be websites, local computer applications, custom api, etc. Compatibility should be Windows XP, 2008 Server, 7, Vista. Unsure if I should custom build an application with Visual Studio, Customize a Open Source Package or what could be a good simple implementation.   • windows weekday and day of month don't match - calendar fail

    This computer came to my shop for just a simple Windows tuneup, so after doing all my tweaks, I noticed I was getting an error when trying to synchronize with the time server. It wasn't until I was about to give up that I noticed in the calendar that it's one weekday late. Here's a screenshot. As you can see, the day today, Friday - January 7th is a Thursday in the calendar. How is this possible?

  • Automatically restore windows network drive (red "X") via batch file

    i need check if a network drive is mapped and accessible. From time to time windows displays a red X on the drive, and i would need to manually click the drive in explorer to reconnect. I already found solutions which involve editing the registry which unfortunately isn´t possible. So i would need a batch file checking for connection, and (re-)mounting the drive.   • How to move windows that open up offscreen?

    I have a dual monitor setup, and I recently played around with the positioning settings, and some of my single window applications do the favour of preserving where they were last closed, and opening in the same position later. Unfortuanately, that now places them out of the viewable area of my screens! Is there some way to force a particular window into the viewable area? If it matters at all, this is on Windows XP 32b.

    Hi, I'm looking for a command line tool for windows that will go over a directory tree (recursively) and output a list of all the files in there, and a checksum for each file (can be CRC, MD5, whatever). Esentially, what I want is to compare 2 big directory trees in 2 machines. I'm planning to take the outputs of running this tool in both, and diffing them to make sure they're identical. I appreciate any ideas.

  • Some Windows XP users can't open any programs

    On my Windows XP PC several user accounts have been created (five to be exact), of these one has all the built-in programs disabled. When I click to open any of these programs it searches to find the program. This is bizarre because all the other users can open these programs just fine. Thinking that the user account is corrupted I created a new user and this new account has the same problem. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

    I cannot seem to find or get the required drivers for Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 on windows 8 64bit on my Dell N7010 Laptop I have wifi connectivity but all i get is max G speeds and no N speeds, transfering files on mapped drives is really slow as a result, this wasnt the case before, i dont care about wimax, but even those drivers would be appreciated incase i decide to sell in future...

  • Icons in windows 8 changed automatically

    The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically ! Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon. My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change.     RE: Putting this out there in case someone else runs into this issue. The intel chipset is on-board. I discovered the reason for the crappy resolution in windows 7 was that the memory to share with the video card was set to 1MB in the BIOS. However, I want this to only trigger if the active window is an Explorer window.     Hello, I'm looking for a way to make the popup toolbar menus on Windows XP's taskbar stay in place while you edit it, and only close when you tell it to--by clicking outside it, for example. Right now it disappears after each editing action--such as renaming a file or changing its position on the menu, and you have to click the again to pop the menu back up to do more editing.   • Windows 7 freezing after returning from idle.

    If i return to my windows 7 x64 computer after it has been idle for a couple of minutes it will respond for 3 seconds and after that everything freezes for around 5-30 seconds and then the computer starts working normally again. The freezing time varies and some times it even get stuck there forever requiring a hard reboot. This is very annoying as you can imagine, it's almost as slow as resuming from hibernation every time you left it idle enough to turn off the monitor.

    I want to password-protect a few applications (not just files/folders) on Windows 7, such that, there is no change to the protected application's .exe file itself. Since the .exe files can't be changed, "Empathy" and "Protect Exe" can't be used as they change the .exe file. I tried using WinGuard Pro and LockThis! also but they don't work for Microsoft Outlook and some other apps (that I need). Is it possible at all? Please help.

  • Windows 7 F6 Drivers off a USB Drive

    I'm doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and I have an on board software RAID. I "need" to install the drivers via the infamous F6 process. Technically, it should be possible to do so after the OS has been booted, but long story short, this isn't going to work well for me. Is it possible to install F6 drivers during the installation using a USB, or must that always be done using floppies? What are my alternatives?
