• How much memory does a hashtable use?

  Would a hashtable/hashmap use a lot of memory if it only consists of object references and int's? As for a school project we had to map a database to objects (that's what being done by orm/hibernate nowadays) but eager to find a good way not to store id's in objects in order to save them again we thought of putting all objects we created in a hashmap/hashtable, so we could easily retrieve it's ID. My question is if it would cost me performance using this, in my opinion more elegant way to solve this problem.

  Does the native Blackberry API allow for the modification of any messaging interface? For example, I'd like to be able to build an app that added a button at the bottom of a received message which says 'translate this'. I've heard that this kind of thing is possible using J2ME plus the native BlackBerry API. Can this be done for all kinds of messages, eg SMS, email and BB messaging? The translation aspect is not relevant, it just provides the context for the kind of feature I'm after.

• request uri showing include path

  I am trying to get the URL from a function I wrote. But because the function is included into the file, its brining back the include path and not the url. Is there a work around? i should get /example.php but instead i get includes/url-logger.php this is done via $_SERVER['request_uri'] cheers

  What is the best way to break up a recursive function that is using a ton of resources For example: function do_a_lot(){ //a lot of code and processing is done here //it takes a lot of execution time if($true){ //if true we have to do all of that processing again do_a_lot(); } } Is there anyway to make the server only have to take the brunt of the first execution and then break up the recursion into separate processes? When I insert something mysql_query('INSERT INTO `table` SET `column` = "data";'); Now, what I want is, without further queries, to get the value of the auto-incrementing column, maybe like this: mysql_query('insertion = (INSERT INTO `table` SET `column` = "data"); SELECT `auto_incrementing_column` FROM `table`.insertion'); Please tell me how something like that is done.   I was making multiple remote calls and they are done sequentially and when I am getting a result event back it's triggering calls to all the methods with ResultEvent as an argument . I am supposed to receive the result event only in the method given inthe event listener but it's triggering calls to all the methods with ResultEvent as an argument . Has anyone come across this kind of problem? Is there any workaround for it?

  I was wondering if it's possible to do something like this (which doesn't work): select cast( (exists(select * from theTable where theColumn like 'theValue%') as bit) Seems like it should be doable, but lots of things that should work in SQL don't ;) I've seen workarounds for this (SELECT 1 where... Exists...) but it seems like I should be able to just cast the result of the exists function as a bit and be done with it.

  Some websites have forms with input type="text". And inside these textboxes there is a blurred text, which says for example: "Enter your name here". And then onClick or OnFocus or whatever, the text dissappears and you can type into the textbox. Like the title of posting a question here at stackoverflow, same thing. How is this done easiest way? • Forcing a PictureBox to retain its image if the image was drawn on using code in vb.net

  My pictureboxes sometimes clear of all drawings when they are done creating the image, or sometimes halfway through. Calling GC.Collect() before the drawing starts lets it draw MORE before it clears, but how can I stop it from clearing entirely? This is in vb.net Thanks!

  I have three date ranges in mysql table as follow from 2013-09-29 to 2013-10-02 from 2013-10-14 to 2013-10-16 from 2013-10-28 to 2013-11-05 I want to count only days that occur in Month of October, for example from first range (2013-09-29 to 2013-10-02) I should get difference of two days (1st and 2nd October) , and it should ignore days from September month, Finally i want to count total days in a given month from above date ranges. Can it be done from direct mysql query. or any short PHP logic.
