• Nielson's usablity scale

  Just wondering if anyone out there knows of a standard survey (preferably based off Jacob Nielson's work on usability) that web admin's can administer to test groups for usability? I could just make up my own but I feel there as got to be some solid research out there on the sort of judgments on tasks I should be asking. For example Q:: Ask user to find profile page Do I ... A.) Present them with standard likert scale after each question B.) Present them the likert after all the questions .. Then what should that likert be, I know Nielson's usability judgments scale is based on Learnability, Efficiency of Use, Memorability, Error Rate, Satisfaction but I can only imagine a likert I would design that would effectively measure satisfaction...how am I suppose to ask a user to rank the Memorability of a site after one use on a 1-5 scale? Surely someone has devised a good way to pose the question?

  I've seen a bunch of similar questions to this, but nothing seems to be completely what I'm looking for. Do forgive me if I have missed the solution answered in another question, though! Right. I have a view. 160 pixels both tall and wide. I know that this view is going to be used as a subview, and I know that it always needs to be centered about both axis in whatever situation it's used. If defining the view programmatically, how can I be sure that it is always perfectly centered, horizontally and vertically, relative to its superview?   I was reading the article Double-checked locking and the Singleton pattern, on how double checked locking is broken, and some related questions here on stackoverflow. I have used this pattern/idiom several times without any issues. Since I have been using Java 5, my first thought was that this has been rectified in Java 5 memory model. However the article says This article refers to the Java Memory Model before it was revised for Java 5.0; statements about memory ordering may no longer be correct. However, the double-checked locking idiom is still broken under the new memory model. I'm wondering if anyone has actually run into this problem in any application and under what conditions.

• Strong name validation failed on VB.NET Assembly

  I have a VB.Net 1.1 application works just fine after compiling in Visual Studio. However, I want to use ILMerge to combine all the referenced assemblies into a single executable just to make it easier to move around. After I send it through ILMerge and try to run it I get the error "Strong name validation failed for .exe" ..... But none of my stuff is strong named! I saw this post here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/403731/strong-name-validation-failed and tried running it through 'sn.exe -Vr .exe' but that gives me this error: ".exe does not represent a strongly named assembly" Has anyone else had this problem before? How do I fix it?

• object won't die (still references to it that I can't find)

  I'm using parallel-python and start a new job server in a function. after the functions ends it still exists even though I didn't return it out of the function (I used weakref to test this). I guess there's still some references to this object somewhere. My two theories: It starts threads and it logs to root logger. My questions: can I somehow findout in which namespace there is still a reference to this object. I have the weakref reference. Does anyone know how to detach a logger? Also the "practical example" given everywhere is the Eclipse Plugin Framework. My questions are: 1) What is the CLEAR and SIMPLE definition of OSGi? 2) What COMMON PROBLEMS does it solve? Now, the questions: 1 - i've generated GTAGS with Gnu Global in my /usr/include, how can i check if semantic is using GTAGS? 2 - can I keep my GTAGS in another directory and instruct semantic to use that dir?? 3 - In c/c++ sources, completion on include statement (from system headers) doesn't list all available headers. • How to enable Line numbering in Visual Studio

  Why doesn't VS have any sort of line numbering? Is there any way to enable it, or a plugin for it? I know, the number of lines of code in a program doesn't matter, but sometimes it is nice to know how long a program is, or what line number something is for reference. I can't seem to find that as an option anywhere, to my surprise. Thanks for the help! This is Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate.   I have an admin controller located in controllers/admin/admin_controller.rb I also have a pages controller located in controllers/admin/pages_controller.rb pages_controller.rb inherits from admin_controller.rb in routes.rb, I have an admin namespace as such: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :pages end I want the admin have basic CRUD functionality in pages_controller.rb (I know how to do that) I want the index and show methods to be available to front-end users I would like the show and index actions to use separate views, but the same code. Questions: Should I create a new pages_controller for the front-end, or share the methods index and show? If share, how would I display separate views depending on whether the url is /admin/pages or /pages If share, should I place pages_controller in /controllers/admin (where it is now) or just in /controllers?   I have a requirement in my project to create dynamic email address on the fly. For example, similar to flickr has the option of uploading photos (or blogger.com has an option of rececing blog posts in predefined email addresses). The email address can be like "[email protected]", once this email address is created what ever the incoming mails will be processed based on certain scenarios. My questions are: What are the solutions available for having our own IMAP/POP3 Server in Windows? Exchange is not an option though, any commercial softwares will do. Is there any way we can have one real email box and that will be masked with alphanumeric email addresss to minimize the creation of email addresses.

• iPhone SDK: am I still allowed to develop with SDK 3.1.3 on Leopard?

  Mac OS X Snow Leopard's been in stores for a while now. Sadly, the Mac that I'll be developing on is still running Leopard, and I don't have admin access to the Mac either so I can't do anything about the OS version. Therefore I can only use iPhone SDK 3.1.3, which we've obtained thanks to this answer, to start building apps on that Mac. Am I still allowed to develop apps with this setup and deploy for iPhone OS 3.x to the App Store? Keyword is allowed because all I've seen so far are technical questions/answers, but I'm not certain if Apple's going to be a jerk and shun me because I can't use a Snow Leopard Mac despite having only started this year (and I don't even want to get started about iPhone SDK 4's revised agreement, not with its NDA still in place...).

  Hello, I already saw the answers for a question almost identical to this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/443169/eclipse-exclude-folders-from-search. However I am looking for a resolution that would allow me to say look at 10 of my 200 folders and those 10 change all the time. Is there a way I can search through just 1 folder and avoid any other folders that are not inside it? I don't want to create a different project as I am using SVN and I have had cases with mxml files and other files that adding a file that we moved from one project to another caused problems for other developers.

• How do find the longest path in a cyclic Graph between two nodes?

  Hi, I already solved most the questions posted here, all but the longest path one. I've read the Wikipedia article about longest paths and it seems any easy problem if the graph was acyclic, which mine is not. How do I solve the problem then? Brute force, by checking all possible paths? How do I even begin to do that? I know it's going to take A LOT on a Graph with ~18000. But I just want to develop it anyway, cause it's required for the project and I'll just test it and show it to the instructor on a smaller scale graph where the execution time is just a second or two. At least I did all tasks required and I have a running proof of concept that it works but there's no better way on cyclic graphs. But I don't have clue where to start checking all these paths...

• iPhone: Having trouble figuring out how to scroll a UITableView with custom UITextField cells automa

  Ok, I know this seems like a duplicate question, but don't think it is. I actually have this implemented already (thanks to this SO question), but it seems sluggish. I am willing to tweak it a bit, but I ran across a demo app by AboutObjects that seems to have exactly the right functionality with absolutely no code doing it. I have looked through their demo code dozens of times, and I can't figure out what they are doing that I am not. The code to look at is in their iPhone Development Tutorials section, and is called "Editable TableView" (2nd from the bottom). There are a couple of questions on the forums on that site asking how they got the functionality, but there is no answer (other than "It's a built in function"). Does anyone have any clue as to why their UITableView would implement the input scrolling by default (including being able to scroll the view manually when the keyboard pops up, which I cannot get to work)?

  Guys, I am using dynamic programming approach to solve a problem. Here is a brief overview of the approach Each value generated is identified using 25 unique keys. I use the boost::hash_combine to generate the seed for the hash table using these 25 keys. I store the values in a hash table declared as boost::unordered_map<Key_Object, Data_Object, HashFunction> hashState; I did a time profiling on my algorithm and found that nearly 95% of the run time is spent towards retrieving/inserting data into the hash table. These were the details of my hash table hashState.size() 1880 hashState.load_factor() 0.610588 hashState.bucket_count() 3079 hashState.max_size() 805306456 hashState.max_load_factor() 1 hashState.max_bucket_count() 805306457 I have the following two questions Is there anything which I can do to improve the performance of the Hash Table's insert/retrieve operations? C++ STL has hash_multimap which would also suit my requirement. How does boost libraries unordered_map compare with hash_multimap in terms of insert/retrieve performance.

  I have created a Money class to save money values in different currencies. The class uses 3 letter ISO symbols to store currency types: public class Money { public decimal Amount { get; set; } public string Currency { get; set; } } Is there a way in C# to use this information, say 100.00 USD, and format it as "$100.00"? Only way I know of requires CultureInfo like this: Amount.ToString("C", CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("en-US")); However this does not work with my Money class. Is there another solution? I am open to changing my Money class. I have searched this site for similar questions (such as this), but couldn't find one that answers the above question.
