  • How do you draw a string centered vertically in Java?

    I know it's a simple concept but I'm struggling with the font metrics. Centering horizontally isn't too hard but vertically seems a bit difficult. I've tried using the FontMetrics getAscent, getLeading, getXXXX methods in various combinations but no matter what I've tried the text is always off by a few pixels. Is there a way to measure the exact height of the text so that it is exactly centered.

When dealing with a website with multiple types of font (here it's large, there it's small, there it's bold, here it's underlined, etc.) is this where we use the h1-h6, or do we reserve those for times when there is a definite hierarchy, using instead <p class="xxx"> to define different classes for text?

  • How can I get the text color of a button using the Substance LaF?

    In my Java application I have to custom-paint a control and for that I need to use the same font colors as JButton. (Enabled an disabled) I don't want to to hard-code them, because the user can change the Substance skin at runtime. I'm aware of the ColorSchemes but I'm not sure how to proceed once I have the color scheme of the current skin. Also the Substance documentation says something about creating your own color scheme, but I just can't figure out the way to retrieve a certain color.

    I am trying to create a piece of software that can be used to create VERY large (10000x10000) sized bitmaps. All I need is something that can work in monochrome, since the required output is a matrix containing details of black and white pixels in the bitmap. The closest thing I can think of is a font editor, but the size is a problem. Is there any library out there that I can use to create the software, or will I have to write the whole thing from the start?

    Is there some cool Moria like theme for Visual Studio 2010? Mine is highlighting gray font with gray background! I just can't configure it on Tools-Options-Environment-Fonts and Colors menu. Visual Studio doesn't seem to show an item for this "highlighting keyword/tag system". You select a variable on variable called myVar, and it highlights all with the same name but with a grayer color and gray background. I just can't read it and can't set it.

    i have say, richTextBox1, and here is the contents: line one from my textbox is this, and i want this to be normal, arial, 8 point non-bold font line two, i want everything after the | to be bolded... | this is bold line three: everything in brackets i (want) to be the color (Red) line 4 is "this line is going to be /slanted/ or with italics and so on, basically if i know how to do what i mentioned above, ill know everything i need to know to complete my project. code examples would be very very much appricaited! :)

    In Word you can place an image on a page and have the text flow nicely around it. I was wondering how far one can get towards this using CSS, noting that is has to work in IE6. I already have something sort of close using float, but the floated child-element still 'blocks' text above it. So it partially wraps. Is it possible to put a child div at some arbitrary position in the parent, and have text flow around it freely? The actual use-case here is to put illustrations inside the main content , where each illustration is implemented inside a child . I repeat, it has to work on IE6. And I don't want to get too involved in browser-specific hacks... floating the child at least works on IE6 with no tweaking.     Hi, I want a custom page analysis footer on every site I visit... so I've used a method to attach JQuery to unsafeWindow. I then create a floating footer on the page. I want to be able to call commands in a menu, do some processing, then put the results in the footer. Unfortunately it sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. At least two alerts should happen in the printOutput function. Sometimes it only fires one, then it (crashes?) without error? On other pages, both alerts fire and it finds the element, but it doesn't add the extra text. (e.g. www.linode.com) Refreshing the page, then running the printOutput command again seems to always work. Does anyone know what's going on???   • HTML/CSS formating

    I'm having to issues lining up items properly in my html code. I am not sure why they are lining up the way I want them to. First the header My Color Library is a full line height above the horizontal ruler. I want it right above the ruler. Second my X box in the td with the background is justified right fine but I actually want it in the top right hand corner not centered vertically.     I am calling a PreferenceActivity from another activity and then updating the application state (ie: changing the font size) on onActivityResult, based on the preference changes. I was thinking it would be better to put the state update logic in the PreferenceActivity. That way I don't have the duplicate the logic in each activity that calls the PreferenceActivity. What's the best or correct way to do this?

    I am running the same AIR application under windows, linux and Mac OSX Windows and Linux look fine, but under mac OS-X the controls are not showing any text. Button, Tooltips, Labels, Check boxes, everything is blank. I just ported that app to Flex 4. Flex 3 versions of the same app on the same OSX machine works. How can I get controls to show text under Max OSX? Is this a font problem?
