  • Model validation with enumerable properties in Asp.net MVC2 RTM

    I'm using DataAnnotations attributes to validate my model objects. My model class looks similar to this: public class MyModel { [Required] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] public List<User> Editors { get; set; } } public class User { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] public string FullName { get; set; } [Required] [DataType(DataType.Email)] public string Email { get; set; } } My controller action looks like: public ActionResult NewItem(MyModel data) { //... } User is presented with a view that has a form with: a text box with dummy name where users enter user's names. For each user they enter, there's a client script coupled with ajax that creates an <input type="hidden" name="data.Editors[0].Id" value="userId" /> for each user entered (enumeration index is therefore not always 0 as written here), so default model binder is able to consume and bind the form without any problems. a text box where users enter the title Since I'm using Asp.net MVC 2 RTM which does model validation instead of input validation I don't know how to avoid validation errors. The thing is I have to use BindAttribute on my controller action. I would have to either provide a white or a black list of properties. It's always a better practice to provide a white list. It's also more future proof. The problem My form works fine, but I get validation errors about user's FullName and Email properties since they are not provided. I also shouldn't feed them to the client (via ajax when user enters user data), because email is personal contact data and is not shared between users. If there was just a single user reference on MyModel I would write [Bind(Include = "Title, Editor.Id")] But I have an enumeration of them. How do I provide Bind white list to work with my model?

  • POST from edit/create partial views loaded into Twitter Bootstrap modal

    I'm struggling with AJAX POST from the form that was loaded into Twitter Bootstrap modal dialog. Partial view form goes like this: @using (Html.BeginForm()) { // fields // ... // submit <input type="submit" value="@ButtonsRes.button_save" /> } Now this is being used in non AJAX editing with classic postbacks. Is it possible to use the same partial for AJAX functionality? Or should I abstract away the inputs into it's own partial view? Like this: @using (Ajax.BeginForm()) { @Html.Partial("~/Views/Shared/ImageEditInputs.cshtml") // but what to do with this one then? <input type="submit" value="@ButtonsRes.button_save" /> } I know how to load this into Bootstrap modal but few changes should be done on the fly: the buttons in Bootstrap modal should be placed in a special container (the modal footer), the AJAX POST should be done when clicking Save which would first, validate the form and keep the modal opened if not valid (display the errors of course) second, post and close the modal if everything went fine in the view that opened the modal, display some feedback information at the top that save was succesful. I'm mostly struggling where to put what JS code. So far I have this within the List view, which wires up the modals: $(document).ready(function () { $('.openModalDialog').click(function (event) { event.preventDefault(); var url = $(this).attr('href'); $.get(url, function (data) { $('#modalContent').html(data); $('#modal').modal('show'); }); }); }); The above code, however, doesn't take into the account the special Bootstrap modal content placeholder (header, content, footer).   • NHibernate, Databinding to DataGridView, Lazy Loading, and Session managment - need advice

    My main application form (WinForms) has a DataGridView, that uses DataBinding and Fluent NHibernate to display data from a SQLite database. This form is open for the entire time the application is running. For performance reasons, I set the convention DefaultLazy.Always() for all DB access. So far, the only way I've found to make this work is to keep a Session (let's call it MainSession) open all the time for the main form, so NHibernate can lazy load new data as the user navigates with the grid. Another part of the application can run in the background, and Save to the DB. Currently, (after considerable struggle), my approach is to call MainSession.Disconnect(), create a disposable Session for each Save, and MainSession.Reconnect() after finishing the Save. Otherwise SQLite will throw "The database file is locked" exceptions. This seems to be working well so far, but past experience has made me nervous about keeping a session open for a long time (I ran into performance problems when I tried to use a single session for both Saves and Loads - the cache filled up, and bogged down everything - see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2526675/commit-is-very-slow-in-my-nhibernate-sqlite-project). So, my question - is this a good approach, or am I looking at problems down the road? If it's a bad approach, what are the alternatives? I've considered opening and closing my main session whenever the user navigates with the grid, but it's not obvious to me how I would do that - hook every event from the grid that could possibly cause a lazy load? I have the nagging feeling that trying to manage my own sessions this way is fundamentally the wrong approach, but it's not obvious what the right one is.

  • PHP SimpleXML recursive function to list children and attibutes

    I need some help on the SimpleXML calls for a recursive function that lists the elements name and attributes. Making a XML config file system but each script will have it's own config file as well as a new naming convention. So what I need is an easy way to map out all the elements that have attributes, so like in example 1 I need a simple way to call all the processes but I don't know how to do this without hard coding the elements name is the function call. Is there a way to recursively call a function to match a child element name? I did see the xpath functionality but I don't see how to use this for attributes. Any ideas? Also does the XML in the examples look correct? can I structure my XML like this?   • Making a app show inside a GUI in Java

    Hello. I have one problem I've been dealing with for this week. You see, I'm new to Java, so that's probably it... Anyways, I've started a project out of pure curiosity. I had it done in Java, but in plain CMD-style, which is not very pretty. It calls one of my ten programs, chosen by the user using "Case". Eg.: If you type 1, it will go to program 1. After you finish it, it goes back to selection until the user press 0. After that, I've been trying to make a GUI for it. I've been able to create the selector alone and make it respond to the numbers chosen. If you press 1 and click ok, it will tell you you've chosen program 1. I, however, have not been able to make it run the program. I've been trying to make the program show up in a jPanel, part of the main GUI. I failed miserably. The program runs in separate but I can't make them run together like the CMD one.   • How to avoid visual artifacts when hosting WPF user controls within a WinForms MDI app?

    When hosting WPF user controls within a WinForms MDI app there is a drawing issue when you have multiple forms that overlap each other that causes very distinct visual artifacts. These artifacts are mostly visible after dragging one child form over another one that also hosts WPF content or by allowing the edges of the child form to be clipped by the main MDI parent when dragging it around. After the drag and drop of the child form is completed the artifacts stay around gernally but I've found that setting focus to a different application's window and then refocusing back on to my application window that it is redrawn and all is good again until the child forms are moved once again. Please see the image below which demonstrates the problem. Since many at Microsoft insist that the WinForms MDI is already a complete solution for MDI even when dealing with WPF I find it hard to believe any of them have ever actually tried creating a mostly WPF app that utilizes WinForms MDI otherwise it would be hard to recommend while keeping a straignt face. I'm hoping to either come up with proof that this solution truly is not acceptable or possibly find a way to overcome this and a few other specific issues.

    Using C# WATIN, how do I get the value of the second occurence of a INPUT tag html element on a page? I've tried a whole bunch of things and haven't succeeded. The debugger isn't giving me any obvious way to get element[1] among the 4 that returned. Console.WriteLine(ie.Element(Find.ByClass("myclass")).GetAttributeValue("value") ) ; // works but prints the value of the 1st of 4 input elements on the page Console.WriteLine(ie.ElementsWithTag("input", "text").Length.ToString() ); // returns the number 4 Console.WriteLine( ie.Element(Find.ByName("login")).GetAttributeValue("value") ); // works but its not safe since its possible there might be two elements with the name login Basically, I want to be able to select the input element by its array index.

They are supposed to be on the same line, but since the list of venues is dynamic, it could become too long and push the button down. I was thinking of setting a max-width property to the select, but I'm not clear whether this will work in all browsers.     Hello, while profiling a java application that calculates hierarchical clustering of thousands of elements I realized that ArrayList.get occupies like half of the CPU needed in the clusterization part of the execution. The algorithm searches the two more similar elements (so it is O(n*(n+1)/2) ), here's the pseudo code: int currentMax = 0.0f for (int i = 0 to n) for (int j = i to n) get content i-th and j-th if their similarity > currentMax update currentMax merge the two clusters So effectively there are a lot of ArrayList.get involved. Is there a faster way? I though that since ArrayList should be a linear array of references it should be the quickest way and maybe I can't do anything since there are simple too many gets.. but maybe I'm wrong. I don't think using a HashMap could work since I need to get them all on every iteration and map.values() should be backed by an ArrayList anyway.. Otherwise should I try other collection libraries that are more optimized? Like google's one, or apache one.. Thanks

I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IQueryable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. The <td> elements are not working because the Html in <%= Html.Display(property.DisplayName) %> contains the model for the view, which is a collection of items, not the item itself. Somehow, I need to obtain an HtmlHelper object whose Model property is the current item, but I'm not sure how to do that. How do I solve these two problems?

    I have a lookup table that is defined the following way: TR_ua1 = np.array([ [3.6, 6.5, 9.1, 11.5, 13.8], [3.9, 7.3, 10.0, 13.1, 15.9], [4.5, 9.2, 12.2, 14.8, 18.2] ]) The header row elements are (hh) <1,2,3,4,5+ The header column (inc) elements are <10000, 20000, 20001+ The user will input a value ex (1.3, 25,000) or (0.2, 50,000). Scipy.interpolate() should interpolate to determine the correct value. Currently, the only way i can do this is with a bunch of if/elifs as exemplified below.   • Accessing Request object from custom JSP tags

    I'm trying to make a set of custom tags that encapsulate form elements (markup and validation). There's a method given to retrieve the "Out" object easily: JspWriter out = getJspContext().getOut(); However I can't figure out how to get the request object. I want to be able to directly access the submitted form values from within the Tag class so that I can validate each field. The documentation is quite sparse, so I thought maybe I could use the JspContext object to somehow get the request attributes. But I don't understand the different scopes. System.out.println(getJspContext().findAttribute("field1")); always prints "null". Enumeration e = getJspContext().getAttributeNamesInScope(1); Looping through and printing out the enumeration just gives me a list of classes that don't exist: javax.servlet.jsp.jspOut javax.servlet.jsp.jspPage javax.servlet.jsp.jspSession javax.servlet.jsp.jspApplication javax.servlet.jsp.jspPageContext javax.servlet.jsp.jspConfig javax.servlet.jsp.jspResponse javax.servlet.jsp.jspRequest So is this even possible? If not, could anyone point me to a tag library that deals with form display and validation? I searched the internet for a couple hours and it seemed every single one was discontinued and I couldn't download them. Either that or suggest a better alternative for handling forms.

    I'm working on a Silverlight 2/3 application. I would like to use List.RemoveAll (or maybe it's IList.RemoveAll?) and specify a predicate so that I can remove a bunch of elements from a list in one sweep. It seems like this function doesn't exist in Silverlight, though. Am I missing something here? Is there an alternative approach that's equally easy? Right now, I'm manually iterating over my elements in a foreach and keeping a second list (because you can't delete while iterating), and it's quite ... cumbersome.

If I use a Html.TextArea without replacing with FCKeditor it works correctly, and if I use a standard Post form submit inplace of AJAX all works as expected. Am I doing something wrong? If not is there a suitable/straight-forward workaround for this problem?

  • WCF NetTcpBinding Security - how does it work?

    Hi, encountered the following problems trying to work through the quagmire of settings in WCF... I created a WCF client server service using a NetTcp binding. I didn't make any changes to the security settings and when running on one machine it works very nicely. However, when I ran my client from another machine it complained that the server didnt like the security credentials that were sent. I understand now that NetTCP is "secured" by default and that my client would have been passing the wrong security details - namely the windows user name and password (or some form of domain authentication) to my server which as they are not running on the same domain it would not have liked. However, what I don't understand is as follows: I haven't specified any security in my binding - does the standard settings expect a windows user name or password to be sent? I don't have any certificate installed on my server - I understand that NetTCP bindings need some form of public private key to protect the credentials - yet this seemed to work when both client and server were on the same machine - how was the data getting encrypted? Or wants it as WCF knew it was on the same machine and encryption isn't needed? I have had to set my security mode on my client and server to "none" now and they connect nicely. However is there any way to encrypt my data without a certificate? Finally... what is the difference between Transport and Message security? To check my understanding (excuse the scenario!) message security is like if I sent a letter from person A to person B and I encode my hand writing to ensure that if anyone intercepts it they cannot read it? Transport Security is if I decide to have my letter sent by armed transport so that no one can get at it along the way? Is it possible to have any form of encryption in WCF without a certificate? My project is a private project and I dont want to purchase a certificate and the data isnt that sensitive anyway so its just for my own knowledge. Thanks in advance.

  • Jeditable Datepicker onblur problem

    Hi, I am using inline editing using Jeditable and datepicker. I have a column in my table which displays Date as a hyperlink. When I click on this it shows me the datepicker. And when a particular date is selected its updated in the backend and the cell now is updated with the changed value. However, am having problem with onblur event while changing month or years. This event gets triggered when I click on "Prev" or "Next" buttons on the datepicker control. This causes an exception when the date is selected. This works fine as long as the date selected is in the current month. I tried all possible solutions listed here: stackoverflow.com/questions/2007205/jeditable-datepicker-causing-blur-when-changing-month If settimeout the control does not change back to a normal hyperlink on closing the datepicker or on a true onblur event.   • FileDialog DoubleClick Behavior

    While developing a WinForms application, I came across what I believe is a bug in the OpenFileDialog and SaveFileDialog controls. A Google search turned up a single other person who noticed the same issue, but neither a solution nor a workaround was provided. If I doubleclick a file in a FileDialog control while the mouse is over this control (with the dialog between them, obviously), the MouseDown event gets triggered. I don't think this is an issue with my control, because the person I mentioned before noticed this happening with a PictureBox control. It would seem that even though the mouse button was pressed down (for the second click to open the file) while on the dialog box, the event passed through to the form and my control when the dialog closed. I have tried disabling my control while the dialog box is active, but that didn't stop it from capturing the event. I assume this is because the event is passed down after the dialog closes, so my control would be re-enabled. Does anyone know of a way to prevent that click from reaching the form and, in turn, my control? Also, can anyone confirm if this really is a bug in the FileDialog controls, or if I just have some setting configured incorrectly?

The application is going to grow soon(TM), and I'll be facing the need to host those modules in separate GUI elements. What type of GUI elements would you recommend to host the modules? Is it possible to data-bind a module to some control like a tab-control? How is it done? Is there some kind of a dock manager (similiar to AvalonDock) for Silverlight?
