• Dynamic Like Statement in SQL

  Hey there! I've been racking my brain on how to do this for a while, and i know that some genius on this site will have the answer. Basically i'm trying to do this: SELECT column FROM table WHERE [table][column] LIKE string1 OR [table][column] LIKE string2 OR [table][column] LIKE string3... for a list of search strings stored in a column of a table. Obviously I can't do a like statement for each string by hand because i want the table to be dynamic. Any suggestions would be great. :D EDIT: I'm using MSSQL :(

  Hey all, I was hoping someone can answer this question for me. I am trying to display wall posts, photos and videos for a certain user for example http://www.facebook.com/sony. I can see the wall posts, photos and videos without signing up for Facebook. Do I need to use the facebook connect API to access the photos and and videos for sony so that I can display them in my iPhone application? I need to display the wall posts as a table view and the images and videos as a gallery very much like how the facebook app displays it. Any help or a API specific page would be appreciated. • Online webcam chat. Free server and easy-to-implement client?

  I have a client requesting that his users can use their webcams to talk to each other. From what I've understood the main thing to use for this is Flash. However as I have not written flash I would like to have something really easy to implement. Of course preferrably free (or trial). The idea of this is that everything but the chat alone is in .net. So the users will not use flash until they are actaully going to talk to each other. So there is no use for rooms here. I've been looking into silverlight some as well. But it seems like silverlight does not offer streaming between users..? I know this question has been asked many times here. But I could not find a suitable answer which is why I post a new question.

• Rails - Permission denied when try to save uploaded file in windows

  I'm writing my own file upload in rails. I saw some related questions but it doesn't answer my question. I use File.open ("#{RAILS_ROOT}/public/docs/attachments/#{@file_name}", "wb") {|f| f.write(@temp_file.read)} to write the file on my local machine (OS: Windows XP) instead of saving it in database. I got a Permission denied error on the File.open method. Since I have cygwin installed, I chmod 777 the folder that files should write to and also make sure the file I upload can be read. But I'm still getting the same error. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have changed to different MTL versions and the problem persists, but on Google there is no proper answer. I use the g++ compiler. Does anyone have a clye?

  Hopefully this will be an easy one to answer. I am working on a table that requires MTD data. One of our SQL guys told me to use MONTH (@monthtodate)= 11 Where @monthtodate is set to GetDate() in the parameter list in SQL Server Management Studio. So in "theory", he says, it should select the month (11) and then get today and return all the requested data in between those two dates. But I'm thinking this isn't correct. In looking at my data I'm starting to think that It's just returning data for the whole month of November instead of just MTD. I guess, technically, anything that has 0 won't be calculated. However that just means it's poorly written code correct? In your opinions, would this be the better way to return MTD data: production_date <= @today and Production_Date >= DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, @today), 0) Thanks in advance everyone!

  I want to cast the const-ness out of a boost::shared_ptr, but I boost::const_pointer_cast is not the answer. boost::const_pointer_cast wants a const boost::shared_ptr, not a boost::shared_ptr. Let's forego the obligitory 'you shouldn't be doing that'. I know... but I need to do it... so what's the best/easiest way to do it?   I'm fairly new to writing web services. I'm working on a SOAP service using JAXWS. I'd like to be able to have users log-in and in my service know which user is issuing a command. In other words, have some session handling. One way I've seen to do this is to use cookies and access the HTTP layer from my web service. However, this puts a dependency on using HTTP as the transport layer (I'm aware HTTP is almost always the transport layer but I'm a purist). Is there a better approach which keeps the service layer unaware of the transport layer? Is there some way I can accomplish this with servlet filters? I'd like the answer to be as framework agnostic as possible.

  Hello, Currently I have a a text file with data at the first row is formatted as follow: time;wave height 1;wave height 2;....... I have column until wave height 19 and rows total 4000 rows. Data in the first column is time in second. From 2nd column onwards, it is wave height elevation which is in meter. I would like to plot the follow: ![alt text][1] on the x axis is time. the left hand side is wave height in m and on the right hand side is the distance between each measurment in a model. inside the graph there are 4 plots, each plot is repersent waveight 1, wave height 2etc at a defined distance related to the right hand side y asix.   I don't have an iPhone Developer Program Account yet and will be getting one in the next couple of days. Can instruments be used with the simulator to give a rough estimate on how well my app may perform? Using instruments I checked and fixed all the leaks it was detecting, and it appears that my memory usage maxes out at about 5.77mb. Is there any other tests I could perform with instruments to judge how well my app would perform? I realize there is no way other then the actual device to get a definite answer, it would be nice to get an estimate.

  I recently answered a question with an attempt at writing a quicksort function in scala, I'd seen something like the code below written somewhere. def qsort(l: List[Int]): List[Int] = { l match { case Nil => Nil case pivot::tail => qsort(tail.filter(_ < pivot)) ::: pivot :: qsort(tail.filter(_ >= pivot)) } } My answer received some constructive criticism pointing out that List was a poor choice of collection for quicksort and secondly that the above wasn't tail recursive. I tried to re-write the above in a tail recursive manner but didn't have much luck. Is it possible to write a tail recursive quicksort? or, if not, how can it be done in a functional style? Also what can be done to maximise the efficiency of the implementation? Thanks in advance.

  Hopefully this is a simple answer that I am just failing to understand. Full code is public static void mystery(int[] list) { for( int i = list.length - 1; i>1; i --) { if (list[i] > list[i - 1]) { list[i -1] = list[i] - 2; list[i]++; } } } } and lets say we are using a list of [2,3,4]. I know that it will output 2,2,5 but I am unclear how to actually work through it. I understand that the list.length is 3 here, and I understand that the for loop will only run once, but I am very unclear what happens at the list[i - 1] = list[i] - 2; area. Should it be list[2-1] = list[2] - 2? How does the two being outside the bracket effect it differently? Much thanks.

  I figured this answer had been asked before, so I searched, but I couldn't find anything. Granted, there are a ton of Ruby Array questions, so it might be there, just buried. In any case, I'm trying to reduce a cross-product of ranges, returning a sum of all elements of the cross-product that meet some set of conditions. To construct a trivial example, if I have an array like this: [0..1,0..1,0..1] I'd like to iterate over this set: [ [0,0,0], [0,0,1], [0,1,0], [0,1,1], [1,0,0], [1,0,1], [1,1,0], [1,1,1] ] and return a sum based the condition "return 1 if i[0] == 1 and i[2] == 0" (which would give 2). In my contrived example, I could do it like this: br = 0..1 br.reduce(0){|sumx, x| sumx + br.reduce(0){|sumy, y| sumy + br.reduce(0){|sumz, z| sumz + (x == 1 and z == 0 ? 1 : 0) } } } , but in the actual application, the set of ranges might be much larger, and nesting reduces that way would get quite ugly. Is there a better way?

  My ASP.NET MVC app needs to run a set of tasks at startup and in the background at a regular interval. I have implemented each task as a controller action and listed the app-relative path to the action in the database. I implemented a TaskRunner process that gets the urls from the database and requests each one at a regular interval using WebRequest.Create, but this throws a UriFormatException. I cannot use this answer or any code that plucks values from HttpContext.Current.Request without getting an HttpException with the message "Request is not available in this context". The Request object is not available because my code uses System.Threading.Timer to do background processing, as recommended here. Here are my questions: Is there really no way to make local web requests within an ASP.NET web app? Is there really no way to dynamically ascertain the root path to the web app even using static dependencies in ASP.NET? I was trying to avoid storing the app's root path in the database (as FogBugz does with its "Maintenance Path"), but is this best option?

• port binding "problem" with Eclipse, Java, & Windows

  Hi All, I use eclipse to develop a web based java application. My normal course of business is grab the next task tracking ticket. If there is a problem that needs to correcting, I run the application locally, which loads of a Jetty webserver, and binds to port 8080. After verifying the problem, I fix the problem, rebuild, and the re-run the application. The problem is, I far too often forget to close the jetty server before re-running. This generates the Java bind error: WARNING: failed [email protected]:8080: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind I work in Windows, and was looking to see if there is command I could run to un-bind the port, but couldn't find an answer there. Does anyone here have a good idea of how to fix my problem, other than remember to shut down the old jetty instance before starting a new one? Thanks, Jay

  If I want to send mail not via SMTP, but rather via sendmail, is there a library for python that encapsulates this process? Better yet, is there a good library that abstracts the whole 'sendmail -versus- smtp' choice? I'll be running this script on a bunch of unix hosts, only some of which are listening on localhost:25; a few of these are part of embedded systems and can't be set up to accept SMTP. As part of Good Practice, I'd really like to have the library take care of header injection vulnerabilities itself -- so just dumping a string to popen('/usr/bin/sendmail', 'w') is a little closer to the metal than I'd like. If the answer is 'go write a library,' so be it ;-)
