    I'm trying to match the username with a regex. Please don't suggest a split. USERNAME=geo Here's my code: String input = "USERNAME=geo"; Pattern pat = Pattern.compile("USERNAME=(\\w+)"); Matcher mat = pat.matcher(input); if(mat.find()) { System.out.println(mat.group()); } why doesn't it find geo in the group? I noticed that if I use the .group(1), it finds the username. However the group method contains USERNAME=geo. Why?

  • Memory increases with Java UDP Server

    I have a simple UDP server that creates a new thread for processing incoming data. While testing it by sending about 100 packets/second I notice that it's memory usage continues to increase. Is there any leak evident from my code below?     I seem to have two options on how to implement arrays, and I want to know which I should go with: Use the ARRAY data type and (from what I understand) effectively serialize data objects into the database (which in my case are just wrapped primitive types; don't know of another way to make this work). Use a separate table and map with foreign keys for each array item. If you have experience with this (especially with H2), which would you recommend?

    I have data from a database loaded into a JTable through a custom table model. I want to have a column (should be the first column) which simply shows the display row number (i.e. it is not tied to any data (or sorting) but is simply the row number on the screen starting at 1). These "column headers" should be grayed out like the row headers. Any idea how to do this? Thanks

    Im trying to create a xml file from a POJO , in which i have a property that stores urls, I have been using the below method to replace all & in the url String to make the xml conform to standards and pass it as an html char entity but the string does not change. public static String forHrefAmpersand(String aURL){ return aURL.replaceAll("&", "&"); } the value might be www.abc.com/controller?a=1&next=showResults I have even tried changing the above method to use "/" as i read replaceAll uses regular expression but replaceAll is not working as exprected, Can anyone tell me what is the mistake im doing ?     I have a specific issue with general console printing and I was wondering whether anyone has a solution for it. I am trying to print a dataTable which would look like sth like this: Table ---------------------- Name |Surname | ---------------------- Mike |Mikhailowish| Rafaello|Mirena | and so on. In order to print the border of the bar I need to know what the maximum length of each column value is. I don't want to go through the whole database to find that out and then again to print it. I would rather like to do sth like: System.out.printLater(s); //herejust leave a pointer to a StringBuilder you will build ... s.append("--------"); ... System.out.printAllDeferred(); I understand the above is probably in 99.99999% chances impossible, but perhaps you guys have a clever way of achieving the above?

    Ran into some questionable behavior using lists of parameterized Class objects: ArrayList<Class<String>> classList = new ArrayList<Class<String>>(); classList.add(Integer.class); //compile error Class intClass = Integer.class; classList.add(intClass); //legal apparently, as long as intClass is not parameterized Found the same behavior for LinkedList, haven't tried other collections. Is it like this for a reason? Or have I stumbled on something?

    I'm trying to append to a char[] array that contains blank spaces on the end. The char array for example contains the characters 'aaa'. When I append the first time the method functions properly and outputs 'aaabbb'. The initial capacity of the array is set to 80 or multiples of 80. The second time I try and append my output looks like"aaabbb bbb". Any psuedocode would be great.

    Suppose we have this problem public class Father{ public void method1(){...} } public class Child1 extends Father{ public void method1() throws Exception{ super.method1(); ... } } Child1 extends Father and override method1 but given implementation Child1.method1 now throws a exception, this wont compile as override method can't throw new exceptions. What is the best solution? Propagate the required exception to the Father.. to me this is against encapsulation, inheritance and general OOP ( the father potentially throw and exception that will never happen ) Use a RuntimeException instead? This solution wont propagate the Exception to the father but I read In Oracle docs and others sources states class of exceptions should be used when "Client code cannot do anything" this is not that case, this exception will b useful to recover blablabla ( why is wrong to use RuntimeException instead? ) Other.. thanks, Federico
