  • HTML to RTF Converter for .NET

    I've already seen lots of posts on the site for RTF to HTML and some other posts talking about some HTML to RTF converters, but I'm really trying to get a full breakdown of what is considered the most widely used commercial product, open source product or if people recommend going home grown. Apologies if you consider this a duplicate question, but I'm trying to create a product matrix to see what is the most viable for our application. I also think this would be helpful for others. The converter would be used in an ASP.NET 2.0 application (we're upgrading to 3.5 shortly but still sticking with WebForms) using SQLServer 2005 (soon 2008) as the DB. From reading a few posts, SautinSoft appears to be popular as a commercial component. Are there other commercial components that you'd recommend for converting HTML to RTF? Price does matter, but even if it's a little on the expensive side, please list it. For open source, I read that OpenOffice.org can be run as a service so that it can convert files. However, this appears to be only Java based. I imagine, I'd need some kind of interop to use this? What .NET open source components, if any, are out there for converting HTML to RTF? For home grown, is an XSLT the way to go with XHTML? If so, what component do you recommend for generating XHTML? Otherwise, what other home grown avenuses do you recommend. Also, please note that I currently don't care so much about RTF to HTML. If a commercial component offers this and the price is still the same, fine, otherwise please don't mention it.

    Hi I already have experience in developing websites using java technologies ... Now i have a task to develop another website and i have the liberty to select technology to built. I dont want to built using Java/J2ee standard technology as i want to learn new language. The specification about website i can give is that: 1) its a real estate based site. 2) so it will have a db of real estate data around million records 3) website will have more than 1000 hits /day and will have various functionality like search, add , delete,generate reports etc. So i mean UI should be good and fast. Technologies i have in mind .NEt( i have already worked on it but it licensed so may not go for it) , Groovy, Ruby on rails ,Play, GWT etc ... I am a college student and the website is again of a student(non techie guy) so i have 5-6 mnths to bring the website up I have read about them but all have adv and disadv but would like to hear from people who have used it and can tell me what they felt about the languages and problems while developing it.. Please feel free to drop any opinion you feel . Thanks

    This is somewhat related to the question posed in this question but I'm trying to do this with an abstract base class. For the purposes of this example lets use these models: class Comic(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=20) desc = models.CharField(max_length=100) volume = models.IntegerField() ... <50 other things that make up a Comic> class Meta: abstract = True class InkedComic(Comic): lines = models.IntegerField() class ColoredComic(Comic): colored = models.BooleanField(default=False) In the view lets say we get a reference to an InkedComic id since the tracer, err I mean, inker is done drawing the lines and it's time to add color. Once the view has added all the color we want to save a ColoredComic to the db. Obviously we could do inked = InkedComic.object.get(pk=ink_id) colored = ColoredComic() colored.name = inked.name etc, etc. But really it'd be nice to do: colored = ColoredComic(inked_comic=inked) colored.colored = True colored.save() I tried to do class ColoredComic(Comic): colored = models.BooleanField(default=False) def __init__(self, inked_comic = False, *args, **kwargs): super(ColoredComic, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) if inked_comic: self.__dict__.update(inked_comic.__dict__) self.__dict__.update({'id': None}) # Remove pk field value but it turns out the ColoredComic.objects.get(pk=1) call sticks the pk into the inked_comic keyword, which is obviously not intended. (and actually results in a int does not have a dict exception) My brain is fried at this point, am I missing something obvious, or is there a better way to do this?

    As the title says, I am getting: Invalid length for a Base-64 char array. I have read about this problem on here and it seems that the suggestion is to store ViewState in SQL if it is large. I am using a wizard with a good deal of data collection so chances are my ViewSate is large. But, before I turn to the "store-in-DB" solution, maybe somebody can take a look and tell me if I have other options?   • jsf datatable lazy load filter and sorting

    Hi, I have worked on several projects with a lot of data tables. The tables had sorting, filtering and paging of course on server side and with help of the db (all databases has implemented sording, filtering -where and limit the returned results). When workig on real application there are a thousands of even a millions rows. But I have seen several JSF dagatable components. They implement pagination, sorting and filtering on client side!! According to me this is very silly. This technology is called enterprise and they sort the data on the client side with java script! I have not seen any good JSF data grid that has build in features for sorting, filtering and lazy loading on the server side. Why is that? Am I looking in wrong direction or really there in no build support for this. Lately I am testing primefaces and lazy loading datatable. It really works fine, but the table i can only lazy load. If you add sort and filter then the problems begin. Conclusion: Is there any datatable JSF component than can perform lazy load pagination, and filtering and sorting on server side. If I need to implement my own solution thanks to the teams that made client side sorting and filtering, they are useless. Regards

    I've had a set of legacy pages running on my IIS7 server for at least a year. Sometime last week something changed and now this line: Response.Write CStr(myRS(0).name) & "=" & Cstr(myRS(0).value) which used to return nothing more exciting than the string: 'Updated=true' (the sproc processing input params, stores them to a table, checks for errors and when that's all done returns a success code by executing this statement: select 'true' as [Updated] Now my pageside error handler is being involved and offers: myError=Error from /logQuizScore.asp Error source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error Error number: 13 Error description: Type mismatch Important to note that all lots of pages use the same framework - same db, same coding format, connecitonstrings and (so far as I can tell) all others are working. Troubleshot to this point: The call to the stored procedure is working correctly (stuff is stored to the given table). The output from the stored procedure is working correctly (i can execute a direct call with the given parameters and stuff works. I can see profiler calling and passing. I can replace all code with 'select 'true' as updated' and the error is the same. everything up to the response.write statement above is correct. So something changed how ADO renders that particular recordset. So i try: Response.Write myRS.Item.count and get: Error number: 424 Error description: Object required The recordset object seems not to be instantiating but the command object _did execute.     I need to set the ErrorMessage property of the DataAnnotation's validation attribute in MVC 2.0. For example I should be able to pass an ID instead of the actual error message for the Model property, for example... [StringLength(2, ErrorMessage = "EmailContentID")] [DataType(DataType.EmailAddress)] public string Email { get; set; } Then use this ID ("EmailContentID") to retrieve some content(error message) from a another service e.g database. Then the error error message is displayed to the user instead of the ID. In order to do this I need to set the DataAnnotation validation attribute’s ErrorMessage property. It seems like a stright forward task by just overriding the DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider‘s protected override IEnumerable GetValidators(ModelMetadata metadata, ControllerContext context, IEnumerable attributes) However it is complicated now.... A. MVC DatannotationsModelValidator’s ErrorMessage property is readonly. So I cannot set anything here B. System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotationErrorMessage property(get and set) which is already set in MVC DatannotationsModelValidator so I cannot set it again.     I am new to CSLA and Entity Framework. I am creating a new CSLA / Silverlight application that will replace a 12 year old Win32 C++ system. The old system uses a custom DCOM business object library and uses ODBC to get to SQL Server. The new system will not immediately replace the old system -- they must coexist against the same database for years to come. At first I thought EF was the way to go since it is the latest and greatest. After making a small EF model and only 2 CSLA editable root objects (I will eventually have hundreds of objects as my DB has 800+ tables) I am seriously questioning the use of EF. In the current system I have the need many times to do fine detail performance tuning of the queries which I can do because of 100% control of generated SQL. But it seems in EF that so much happens behind the scenes that I lose that control. Article like http://toomanylayers.blogspot.com/2009/01/entity-framework-and-linq-to-sql.html don't help my impression of EF. People seem to like EF because of LINQ to EF but since my criteria is passed between client and server as criteria object it seems like I could build queries just as easily without LINQ. I understand in WCF RIA that there is query projection (or something like that) where I can do client side LINQ which does move to the server before translation into actual SQL so in that case I can see the benefit of EF, but not in CSLA. If I use raw ADO.NET, will I regret my decision 5 years from now? Has anyone else made this choice recently and which way did you go?

There are hundreds of thousands of nearby points which to what I can tell, are being indexed by Sphinx, but simply fails silently when searching with Sphinx.     I'm not positive I'm going about this the right way. I've got a suite of applications that have varying types of output (custom defined types). For example, I might have a type called Widget: Class Widget Public name as String End Class Throughout the course of operation, when a user experiences a certain condition, the application will take that output instance of widget that user received, serialize it, and log it to the database noting the name of the type. Now, I have other applications that do something similar, but instead of dealing with Widget, it could be some totally random other type with different attributes, but again I serialize the instance, log it to the db, and note the name of the type. I have maybe a half dozen different types and don't anticipate too many additional ones in the future. After all this is said and done, I have an admin interface that looks through these logs, and has the ability for the user to view the contents of this data thats been logged. The Admin app has a reference to all the types involved, and with some basic switch case logic hinged upon the name of the type, will cast it into their original types, and pass it on to some handlers that have basic display logic to spit the data back out in a readable format (one display handler for each type) NOW... all this is well and good... Until one day, my model changed. The Widget class now has deprecated the name attribute and added on a bunch of other attributes. I will of course get type mismatches in the admin side when I try to reconstitute this data. I was wondering if there was some way, at runtime, i could perhaps reflect through my code and get a snapshot of the type definition at that precise moment, serialize it, and store it along with the data so that I could somehow use this to reconstitute it in the future?

    I am new to SQuirrel SQL. I need some help to translating CCSID 65535 into ASCII, UNICODE (or anything human readable) I am using the JDBC driver per the following guide. According to IBM's website: What character conversion issues must my program deal with? The IBM i database uses EBCDIC to store text. Java uses Unicode. The JDBC driver handles all conversion between character sets, so your program should not have to worry about it. but I think they refer to CCSID 37 and not 65535(Hex).     I've been evaluating technology stack for developing a social network based application. Below are the stack I think could well suitable for this application type of application: GUI -- ASP.NET MVC, Flash (Flex) Business Services -- Thrift based services One of the advantage of using Thrift is to solve scaling problems that will come in future when the user base increases rapidly. All the business logic can be exposed as a services using REST,JSON etc., This also allows us to go with C++ or Erlang based services when situation demands. Database -- mySQL, CasSandara mySQL can be used for storing the data which needs to be persisted. Cassandara will be used for storing global identifiers to the persisted data. Since Cassandara is also very good at scaling by introducing more nodes this will leverage Thrift based services as well. And also there is native support between Cassandara and Thrift Cache Server -- Memcached Any requests from Business Services will only talk to Memcached if any non-dirty data is required, otherwise there will be some background jobs that will invalidate the cache from database. The question is: Is the Thrift which is open-sourced one is production-ready? Is it the right stack for services layer to choose when the application (GUI) is primarily gets developed in ASP.NET and DB is mysql? Is there any other caveats that anyone here experienced? One of the main objective behind this stack is to easily scale up with more nodes and also this helps us to use Linux boxes, it will reduce our cost significantly Thoughts please ..

Now it became 1 , abc.txt , 2 , def.doc , 3 , flyaway.txt, 0, Superman.txt, 0 , Spiderman.txt What i am doing here is that this csv string is paased into SP where its splitted and inserted to db.   • WPF Control validation

    Hi all, I'm developing a WPF GUI framework and have had bad experiences with two way binding and lots of un-needed events being fire(mainly in Flex) so I have gone down the route of having bindings (string that represent object paths) in my controls. When a view is requested to be displayed the controller loads the view, and gets the needed entities (using the bindings) from the DB and populates the controls with the correct values. This has a number of advantages i.e. lazy loading, default undo behaviour etc. When the data in the view needs to be saved the view is passed back to the controller again which basically does the reserve i.e. re-populates the entities from the view if values have changed. However, I have run into problems when I try and validate the components. Each entity has attributes on its properties that define validation rules which the controller can access easily and validate the data from the view against it. The actual validation of data is fine. The problem comes when I want the GUI control to display error validation information. It I try changing the style I get errors saying styles cannot be changed once in use. Is the a way in c# to fire off the normal WPF validation mechanism and just proved it with the validaiton errors the controller has found? Thanks in advance Jon

  • LINQ-to-SQL: Could not find key member 'x' of key 'x' on type 'y'

    I am trying to connect my application to a SQLite database with LINQ-to-SQL, and so far everything has worked fine. The only hitch was that the SQLite provider I am using does not support code generation (unless I was doing something wrong), so I manually coded the 4 tables in the DB. The solution builds properly, but will not run, giving me the error message Could not find key member 'ItemType_Id' of key 'ItemType_Id' on type 'Item'. The key may be wrong or the field or property on 'Item' has changed names. I have checked and double checked spellings and field names on the database and in the attribute mappings, but could not find any problems. The SQL for the table looks like this: CREATE TABLE [Items] ( [Id] integer PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT NOT NULL, [Name] text NOT NULL, [ItemType_Id] integer NOT NULL ); And my mapping code: [Table(Name="Items")] class Item { // [snip] [Column(Name = "Id", IsPrimaryKey=true, IsDbGenerated=true)] public int Id { get; set; } // [snip] [Column(Name="ItemType_Id")] public int ItemTypeId { get; set; } [Association(Storage = "_itemType", ThisKey = "ItemType_Id")] public ItemType ItemType { get { return _itemType.Entity; } set { _itemType.Entity = value; } } private EntityRef<ItemType> _itemType; // [snip] } This is really my first excursion into LINQ-to-SQL, and am learning as I go, but I cannot seem to get past this seeming simple problem.
