  • How can I test if an input field contains foreign characters?

    I have an input field in a form. Upon pushing submit, I want to validate to make sure the user entered non-latin characters only, so any foreign language characters, like Chinese among many others. Or at the very least test to make sure it does not contain any latin characters. Could I use a regular expression for this? What would be the best approach for this? I am validating in both javaScript and in PHP. What solutions can I use to check for foreign characters in the input field in both programming languages?

    I'm pretty new to the world of RSpec. I'm writing a RubyGem that processes a list of files within a specified directory and any sub-directories. Specifically, it will use Find.find and append the files to an Array for later output. I'd like to write a spec to test this behaviour but don't really know where to start in terms of faking a directory of files and stubbing Find.find etc. This is what little I have so far: it "should return a list of files within the specified directory" do end Any help much appreciated!

  • Make Dell's OpenManage 6.2 information available through SNMP

    I have successfully installed OpenManage on a CentOS 5.4 server and I'm able to use OpenManage through the web interface running on port 1311, but I would like to be able to expose this information through the SNMP server. I don't know SNMP particularly well so the configuration is a result of trial and error. I've tried to follow the description pointed out in the Open Manage Server Administrator User Guide. I've followed the documentation regarding SNMP configuration, but without success.     I’m unable to schedule a periodic launch with launchctl/launchd on OS X (Leopard). Basically, I’m unable to find a step-by-step list of instructions on the web and the intuitive approach doesn’t work. Next, I’ve registered the script using launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/sync.plist Finally, to test that it works, I started the job: launchctl start net.madrat.utils.sync – Nothing happened. Manually executing the rsync command in the terminal yields the expected result. I’m fairly sure that the job was registered correctly because if I try to start a non-existing job, I get an error message (which I didn’t get in the above command). What did I do wrong?

  • AWS lighttpd: Sending a copy of requests to test.

    I have a load balanced service on AWS. So the ELB evenly distributes the load across my servers. Each server is running lighttpd that does logging and forwards the requests to my service (on the same machine). I have written a new version of the service. It is installed and running on an EC2 machine test1 (basically a mirror of our current server but the new service running instead of the original) and I have done some preliminary tests that look good. But what I would like to do is mirror a fraction of incoming traffic to the new version of the service so I can do some comparisons between an original version and the new version based on real traffic. Thus I was thinking I could modify one box behind the ELB to duplicate its traffic to the test1. I was thinking I could modify the configuration of lighttpd so that each request is mirrored/duplicated. i.e. the original service keeps responding as before but a mirror request is sent to test1 but the reply is just dropped). Unfortunately I have not been able to work this out. Any ideas on how I could mirror the requests from one box to itself and test1. Or any other ideas for testing.

    Does anyone understand this huge difference in processing time, when using an intermediate file, or when using a pipe? I'm converting tiff to pdf using standard tools on a fresh debian squeeze server. A standard way of doing this is to convert to ps first.     With nginx I have server { listen 1.2.3.4:80 proxy_cache_valid 200 302 5m; location / { try_files $uri @upstream; root $root; } } When I go http://example.com/foobar it generates a redirect to http://example.com/foobar?filter_distance=50&... which is visitor dependent so I would like to not cache this redirect. I need to bypass cache when the query string is empty. I am a bit lost because location /foobar will match both.

  • What are best practices on virtual lab/test bed architecture?

    I am currently preparing a new small virtual environment for development and testing with Windows Server + SQL Server + AD + Sharepoint + Exchange + IIS(ASP.NET) + Biztalk + ?, for a small (up to 5) dev team. What are pros and cons on different approaches, eg. splitting up over different machines or packing everything up per machine. I your experience what are the best practices I should follow in terms of architecture and various system/servers placement. What to share and what to split per person. I would like to achieve some flexibility for the dev and testing process (so teammebers would not be steeping on each other's toes) and limit administrative effort needed to propagate settings, integrate work items and revert changes when something breaks up. It's not supposed to be an everyday development working environment, more a tier 2 developer testing environment, and not yet an integration or QA testing environment with formal change process. IMO the two borderline solutions are: creating one all-inclusive machine for each dev team member giving them freedom to manage creating shared environment managed by the one with somehow formalized change request process What golden mean would you recommend, and why?

    I suspect that my motherboard is bad, and that my PCI-E slot is not working. I have a Gigabyte motherboard that had a Hauppage 2250 working fine in the PCI-E slot for many months. However - recently - would not get TV channels that I used to get --- until finally Media center cant detect any channels at all. Got a new tuner card (ATI 350 card) - cant detect any channels. The cable signal is good - I have it connected directly to a TV - all channels come in clear. SO that is why I suspect a motherboard problem. Are there any motherboard diagnostic scanner utilities that can verify I need a new motherboard

  • SSH Private Key Not Working in Some Directories

    I have a strange issue where SSH won't properly connect with a private-key if the key file is in certain directories. I've setup the keys on a set of servers and the following command ssh -i /root/privatekey [email protected] works fine and I login to the given host without getting prompted by a password, but this command: ssh -i /etc/keyfiles/privatekey [email protected] gives me a password prompt. I've narrowed it down that this behavior occurs in only some sub-directories of /etc/. For example /etc/httpd1/ gives me a password prompt but /etc/httpd/ does not. What I've checked so far: All private key files used are identical (copied from the original file). The private key file and directories used have identical permissions. No relevant error messages in the server/client logs. No interesting debug messages from ssh -v (it just seems to skip the key file). It happens with connecting to different hosts. After more testing it is not the actual directory name. For example: mkdir /etc/test cp /root/privatekey /etc/test ssh -i /etc/test/privatekey [email protected] # Results in password prompt cp /root/privatekey /etc/httpd # Existing directory ls -ald test httpd # drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Mar 5 18:25 httpd # drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 5 18:43 test ssh -i /etc/httpd/privatekey [email protected] # Results in *no* prompt rm -r test cp -R /etc/httpd /etc/test ssh -i /etc/test/privatekey [email protected] # Results in *no* prompt` I'm sure its just something simple I've overlooked but I'm at a loss.
