• WPF Drag and Drop - Get original source info from DragEventArgs

  I am trying write Drag and Drop functionality using MVVM which will allow me to drag PersonModel objects from one ListView to another. This is almost working but I need to be able to get the ItemsSource of the source ListView from the DragEventArgs which I cant figure out how to do. private void OnHandleDrop(DragEventArgs e) { if (e.Data != null && e.Data.GetDataPresent("myFormat")) { var person = e.Data.GetData("myFormat") as PersonModel; //Gets the ItemsSource of the source ListView .. //Gets the ItemsSource of the target ListView and Adds the person to it ((ObservableCollection<PersonModel>)(((ListView)e.Source).ItemsSource)).Add(person); } } Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Would this be better as a stored procedure or leave it as is? INSERT INTO `user_permissions` ( `user_id`, `object_id`, `type`, `view`, `add`, `edit`, `delete`, `admin`, `updated_by_user_id` ) SELECT `user_id`, $object_id, '$type', 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, $user_id FROM `user_permissions` WHERE `object_id` = $object_id_2 AND `type` = '$type_2' AND `admin` = 1 You can think of this with different objects, lets say you have groups and subgroups. If someone creates a subgroup, it is making everyone who had access to the parent group now also have access to the subgroup. I've never made a stored procedure before, but this looks like it might be time. This call be probably be called very often. Should I be creating a procedure or will the performance be insignificant?

• Adding ivars to NSManagedObject subclass

  When I create an entity using core data then generate a subclass of NSManagedObject from it I get the following output (in the .h): @class Foo; @interface Foo : NSManagedObject @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *name; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSSet *otherValues; @end However, in my .m file I want to make use of the name and otherValues values. Normally I would simply create a couple of ivars and then add the properties for them as I required. That way I can access them in my .m file easily. In this situation would it be acceptable to do this? Would adding ivars to the .h (for name and otherValues) cause any unusual behaviour in the persistance & retrieval of objects?

• Remove all references to a DLL across all application domains

  I have a web application that dynamically loads assemblies based on database configuration entries to perform certain actions (dynamic plugin style architecture). The calls to the objects are in a Factory Pattern implementation, and the object is cached (in a static dictionary< within the Factory) as the calls can be made many thousands of times in a minute. The calls to this factory are made from both the main web application and a number of webservices, some in different assemblies/projects. When I need to update one of these DLLs, I have to recycle IIS to get the DLL released. As this has an impact on another application on the server, I wanted to know if there was a way I could release the DLL without restarting IIS?

• Load JSON in Python as header chracterset

  Hi everyone, I've always found character-sets and encodings complicated to understand and here I'm faced with another problem. My apologies for any inaccuracies. I'll do my best. I'm requesting data from a server which returns JSON. In the HTTP headers it also returns the character.set like so: Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 I'm using the JSON library in python to load the JSON using the json.loads method. When I pass it the returned JSON, it gives me a dictionary in Unicode. I've Googled around and I know that JSON should return Unicode as JavaScript strings are Unicode objects. How can I load the JSON as UTF-8. I would like to use the same encoding as specified in the response header. I've read this post but it didn't help. Thank you.

• Need some clarification with Patterns (DAO x Gateway)

  Me and my colleagues got into this discussion early this morning, and our opinions started to clash a bit, so I decided to get some impartial advice here. One of my colleagues reckons that the DAO should return an object (populated bean). I think it's completely fine when you're returning a recordset with only one line, but think it's overkill if you have to return 10 lines, and create 10 separate objects. I on the other see that the difference between DAO and Gateway pattern is that the gateway pattern will allow you to return a recordset to your business class, which will therefore deal with the recordset data and do whatever it needs to do. My questions here are: Which assumptions are correct? What should the return type be for a DAO (i.e. getContact() - for one record) Should getContacts() (for multiple records) even be on the DAO, if so, what's it's returntype? We seem to be having some sort of confusion about DAO and Gateway Patterns. Should they be used together? Thanks in advance

• Security in API authentication

  We are in the process of revamping our server side API, and we need to manage security. Our current model requires that a credentials object (containing user, password, and pin) be included in each method invocation. Our development team, however, has decided that we should have session objects instead (which is fine by me), but the new credentials are just a GUID. This is very different from what I've seen in other APIs in our industry, so I'm a bit concerned about how secure the new model will be. I asked them if they had analyzed both alternatives, and they said they haven't. Does anyone know if there're any clear advantages, disadvantages, risks, etc. of using a set of credentials versus just one element (complex as it may be)? PS: the communication channel would be secure in either case, and it's separate from this particular topic

• How to get unique URL identifier after inserting item in Google Base with Zend Gdata API?

  I need to get the unique URL identifier for the product that is created after inserting an item into Google Base using the Zend_Gdata_Gbase library. I can't seem to do this. I am finding a startling lack of documentation online about manipulating the objects used in these applications. The url that I add to the object does not work to retrieve the base item later, which is why I need to get the one that google generates upon submission. I am writing a program that will need to be able to delete content at a later date, and thus will need to store that information in order to keep the website synced with the Google Base feed. • Core Data and Relationships

  I have two objects, a Trip and a Place. A Trip represents a journey from one Place to another Place, ie. a Trip needs a fromPlace and a toPlace. So, this is a 1-to-2 relationship, but I need to know which is the "from" and which is the "to". I am not sure how to model this in Core Data. I have created two entities (Trip, Place), and now I want to setup the relationship(s) so I have a fromPlace and a toPlace. Do I need to add an extra field on the Place entity called isFrom, or similar? If this was in a database, I would just have a id column on the Place table, and then two columns in the Trip table - fromPlaceId and toPlaceId. How do I achieve something similar in Core Data?

• What is the problem with this Java code dealing with Generics?

  interface Addable<E> { public E add(E x); public E sub(E y); public E zero(); } class SumSet<E extends Addable> implements Set<E> { private E element; public SumSet(E element) { this.element = element; } public E getSum() { return element.add(element.zero()); } } It seems that element.add() doesn't return an E extends Addable but rather an Object. Why is that? Has it anything to do with Java not knowing at run-time what the object types really are, so it just assumes them to be Objects(thus requiring a cast)? Thanks

• Can someone describe some DI terms to me?

  I'm in the process of writing a DI framework for PHP 5, and I've been trying to find the 'official' definitions of some words in relation to dependency injection. Some of these words are 'context' and 'lifecycle'. And also, what would I call the object that gets created/injected? Finally, what is the difference between components and services, and which term (if either) should I call the objects that can be injected? I've read Martin Fowler's article and looked through other DI frameworks (Phemto, Spring, Google Guice, Xyster, etc.), but I want to know what you think. Thanks!

• Accessing the Identity object in a MVC repository

  Hi, I have a pretty generic repository that does basic CRUD for many of my business entities. The entities enherit form a generic object that has a few fields I maintain for all objects. eg. ModifiedBy, CreatedBy, CreatedDate, ModifiedDate. These fields ModifiedBy and CreatedBy will always be set before any update/save. My questions is: Is there any way to gain access to the Identity object from my MVC web application in my repositories? I was hoping to set the modifiedby to the identity user for any update in one shot?? Best Regard, Rod

• How does multiple implementing multiple COM interfaces work in C++?

  I am trying to understand this example code regarding Browser Helper Objects. Inside, the author implements a single class which exposes multiple interfaces (IObjectWithSite, IDispatch). His QueryInterface function performs the following: if(riid == IID_IUnknown) *ppv = static_cast<BHO*>(this); else if(riid == IID_IObjectWithSite) *ppv = static_cast<IObjectWithSite*>(this); else if (riid == IID_IDispatch) *ppv = static_cast<IDispatch*>(this); I have learned that from a C perspective, interface pointers are just pointers to VTables. So I take it to mean that C++ is capable of returning the VTable of any implemented interface using static_cast. Does this mean that a class constructed in this way has a bunch of VTables in memory (IObjectWithSite, IDispatch, etc)? What does C++ do with the name collisions on the different interfaces (they each have a QueryInterface, AddRef and Release function), can I implement different methods for each of these?

How can I unserialize those objects and remove object I need? I suspect, that I don't have to write my custom parser, that Zend_Session already has a method to do this. I even succeeded in sending JSon from the server to the client parsing it on Flex. I want to send AMF objects to the client. Meaning, I have a class called User, I want to fill it with data and send it to the client, there I want it to be mapped to an object on the client. How can I achieve this?

• Python: Getting the attribute name that the created object will be given

  Before I ask this, do note: I want this for debugging purposes. I know that this is going to be some bad black magic, but I want to use it just during debugging so I could identify my objects more easily. It's like this. I have some object from class A that creates a few B instances as attributes: class A(object): def __init__(self) self.vanilla_b = B() self.chocolate_b = B() class B(object): def __init__(self): # ... What I want is that in B.__init__, it will figure out the "vanilla_b" or whatever attribute name it was given, and then put that as the .name attribute to this specific B. Then in debugging when I see some B object floating around, I could know which one it is. Is there any way to do this?

  At work we currently have a custom in-house built winforms app for the business users to view reports. It has role-based security and several administrator functions. My boss is thinking about getting me to port this app to webforms. My question is, are there options other than custom built winforms and webforms apps for deploying/viewing/administrating Crystal Reports at an enterprise level (role-based security, easy report deployment, etc)? I'm thinking about third-party packages or perhaps applications provided by Microsoft/Business Objects/SAP? We are using Crystal Reports 11.5.

• Wanting to edit a google maps info bubble

  I have to edit an info bubble on a website to help someone out. The site is already online and i dont have the ftp login details so i cant download the files and use them locally to test it. So im having some issues with inserting a logo on the top of the bubble, like a header. Im also having problems with the code needed to add 'to here' and 'from here' directions at the bottom of the bubble. Everything else is plain text in the middle of these 2 objects, so thats easy. Can anyone help me with the header pic and directions code?

• What's the purpose of having a separate "operator new[]" ?

  Looks like operator new and operator new[] have exactly the same signature: void* operator new( size_t size ); void* operator new[]( size_t size ); and do exactly the same: either return a pointer to a big enough block of raw (not initialized in any way) memory or throw an exception. Also operator new is called internally when I create an object with new and operator new[] - when I create an array of objects with new[]. Still the above two special functions are called by C++ internally in exactly the same manner and I don't se how the two calls can have different meanings. What's the purpose of having two different functions with exactly the same signatures and exactly the same behavior?

• [Django] How to find out whether a model's column is a foreign key?

  I'm dynamically storing information in the database depending on the request: // table, id and column are provided by the request table_obj = getattr(models, table) record = table_obj.objects.get(pk=id) setattr(record, column, request.POST['value']) The problem is that request.POST['value'] sometimes contains a foreign record's primary key (i.e. an integer) whereas Django expects the column's value to be an object of type ForeignModel: Cannot assign "u'122'": "ModelA.b" must be a "ModelB" instance. Now, is there an elegant way to dynamically check whether b is a column containing foreign keys and what model these keys are linked to? (So that I can load the foreign record by it's primary key and assign it to ModelA?) Or doesn't Django provide information like this to the programmer so I really have to get my hands dirty and use isinstance() on the foreign-key column?

  My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController. • What simple methods are there to wrap a c++ based object model with a COM interface

  I have a pre-existing c++ object model which represents the business layer tier of an application. I want to be able to expose the object model to applications written in other languages i.e vbscript, VB, javascript etc. I believe the best way of doing this is to wrap the business objects with a COM layer. What fast and effective methods are there for doing this. Any advice, links to practical "How to" documentation would be very much appreciated. Because I'm starting a bounty on this , here's a few extra guidelines for potential bounty hunters :- 1)I've decided on an ATL approach 2)I'm now specifically looking for links to really good "how to and quickly" documentation on wrapping a pre-existing c++ object model to make it useable by a scripting language like javascript 3) Something with small working examples showing me what code needs to be added to what files, e.g what goes into the cpp , idl and hpp/h etc. It' must include an example I can compile test and change to get a better understanding.
