  • Can I use a property placeholder with Spring EL?

    Before upgrading to Spring 3 I had this in my applicationContext.xml file: <bean class="com.northgateis.pole.ws.PolePayloadValidatingInterceptor"> <property name="validateRequest" value="${validateRequest}" /> <property name="validateResponse" value="${validateResponse}" /> </bean> where ${validateRequest) and ${validateRequest) refer to properties that may or may not be defined in my properties file. In Spring 2, if these proeprties were not present in the properties file the setters on the bean were not called and so the defaults hard-coded in PolePayloadValidatingInterceptor were used. Interesting that the syntax is accepted. Any suggestions?

  • PHPMailer safe practices - Send escaped / sanitized variables or not ?

    I'm using the PHPMailer-Lite class to build an email sending script and I'm not sure if I should use addslashses() on the $name variable when adding it to the constructor. If somebody's last name would be O'Riley (or any other name that contains characters which should normally be sanitized before handling) and I would send it unescaped, wouldn't it mess with the script/email sending ? Is it safe to send it unescaped ? As a side note, I would also like to avoid having my message body say "Hello, O\'Riley". Looking at the source, I saw that it only trims the whitespace and line ending (\r\n) characters from the received $name variable, so any advice on this would be more than welcome.   • Are Parameters really enough to prevent Sql injections?

    I've been preaching both to my colleagues and here on SO about the goodness of using parameters in SQL queries, especially in .NET applications. I've even gone so far as to promise them as giving immunity against SQL injection attacks. But I'm starting to wonder if this really is true. Are there any known SQL injection attacks that will be successfull against a parameterized query? Can you for example send a string that causes a buffer overflow on the server? There are of course other considerations to make to ensure that a web application is safe (like sanitizing user input and all that stuff) but now I am thinking of SQL injections. I'm especially interested in attacks against MsSQL 2005 and 2008 since they are my primary databases, but all databases are interesting. Edit: To clarify what I mean by parameters and parameterized queries. By using parameters I mean using "variables" instead of building the sql query in a string. So instead of doing this: SELECT * FROM Table WHERE Name = 'a name' We do this: SELECT * FROM Table WHERE Name = @Name and then set the value of the @Name parameter on the query / command object.

  • LINQ-to-SQL Query Timing Out

    I'm running this query in LINQ: var unalloc = db.slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobs("Repair", RadComboBox1.SelectedValue, 20); It runs when I first open the page, but when I go back to it and try to run the same query with a different value, "Con", being passed through, the linq to sql designer.cs tells me that I've got a timeout error. Any ideas?     I want to know how to validate XML with XSD . XML is not of an element type but a complex type . Since validator class's validate method compare only element type.   • Odd nested dictionary behavior in python

    Im new two python and am trying to grow a dictionary of dictionaries. I have done this in php and perl but python is behaving very differently. Im sure it makes sense to those more familiar with python. Here is my code: colnames = ['name','dob','id']; tablehashcopy = {}; tablehashcopy = dict.fromkeys(colnames,{}); tablehashcopy['name']['hi'] = 0; print(tablehashcopy); Output: {'dob': {'hi': 0}, 'name': {'hi': 0}, 'id': {'hi': 0}} The problem arises from the 2nd to last statement(i put the print in for convenience). I expected to find that one element has been added to the 'name' dictionary with the key 'hi' and the value 0. But this key,value pair has been added to EVERY sub-dictionary. Why? I have tested this on my ubuntu machine in both python 2.6 and python 3.1 the behaviour is the same.

    Has anyone managed to use this module with success, i'm running 32bit Windows 7, where i have opened an administrator shell using run as administrator, i have imported the WebAdministration module and then attempted to use the commands with some issues, have provided two examples here Websites I created a web site with the following command new-website -name testsite -port 80 -hostheader testsite -physicalpath c:\temp Then i attempted to get the sites details using the command get-website -name testsite but it always returns all sites, seems to ignore the -name parameter. Only way i can get the site is using a filter get-website | ? { $_.name -eq 'testsite' } | get-member When i use appcmd it works as expected using the following command C:\> C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list site testsite AppPools When i try to list the apppools using the following command dir iis:\apppools i get the following error Get-ChildItem : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Yet when i use appcmd as follows i get all the apppools as expected without any error C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list apppool Has anyone successfully managed to use the WebAdministration module ?   • What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

    I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure. I then run my standard code for entering a form - no problems. Checking the Dev Database (.yml at bottom): mysql> select * from books; [...] | 712 | Book | Book Name | 2010-03-21 22:29:22 | 2010-03-21 22:29:22 | [...] 712 rows in set (0.00 sec) The code CLEARLY saved it seconds ago And now here's the output of script/console: $ script/console Loading development environment (Rails 2.3.5) >> Books.all => [] Nothing. Further, upon further inspection, it's using the production database, but I can't figure out why. Any thoughts here? All consoles have been closed and reopened.     I need to write a tool that lists the classes that call methods of specified interfaces. It will be used as part of the build process of a large java application consisting of many modules. The goal is to automatically document the dependencies between certain java modules. I found several tools for dependency analysis, but they don't work on the method level, just for packages or jars. Finally I found ASM, that seems to do what I need.     Following instructions from the two sites below, I've installed Tomcat 6 and Solr 1.4. http://gist.github.com/204638 https://wiki.fourkitchens.com/display/TECH/Solr+1.4+on+Ubuntu+9.10+and+CentOS+5 I have successfully got it up and running on a server running 9.04 with multicore support, but on the 10.04 I can't seem to get it to work.     Hi When you enable pre-receive hook for git repository: It takes no arguments, but for each ref to be updated it receives on standard input a line of the format: < old-value SP < new-value SP < ref-name LF where < old-value is the old object name stored in the ref, < new-value is the new object name to be stored in the ref and is the full name of the ref. When creating a new ref, < old-value is 40 0. Does anyone can explain me how do I examine all the files that will be changed in the repository if i allow this commit? I'd like to run that files through some scripts to check syntax and so on. Thanks.

    This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

    Hi, I am using PHP 5.2 on SUN OS server. Having problems with the following piece of code that for a drop down: echo '<form action="" method="get">'; echo '<p>Information:<br />'; echo '<select name="acctno" style="width: 100px;">'; foreach ($this->account_names as $acctno => $acctname) { echo '<option value="'.$acctno.'">'.$acctname.'</option>'; } echo '</select> <input type="submit" value="view" />'; echo '</form>'; Worked perfectly fine on Firefox and Chrome; however there is a problem with Internet Explorer. In IE the dropdown width is limited to the size i.e 100px. So only the first 15-16 characters of the account name are displayed all the time. However in chrome or firefox, even if only 15-16 characters are displayed initially, when the drop down arrow is clicked upon, it show the entire name (however long it may be). This does not happen with IE. So if the account name is, lets say, "1223456789abcdefghijkl" then: For IE: shows only "123456789" all the time Ffor chrome or firefox: shows "123456789" and when it is dropped down it show the full name as "123456789abcdefghijkl".
