  • Android: bug in launchMode="singleTask"? -> activity stack not preserved

    - by Stefan Klumpp
    My main activity A has as set android:launchMode="singleTask" in the manifest. Now, whenever I start another activity from there, e.g. B and press the HOME BUTTON on the phone to return to the home screen and then again go back to my app, either via pressing the app's button or pressing the HOME BUTTONlong to show my most recent apps it doesn't preserve my activity stack and returns straight to A instead of the expected activity B. Here the two behaviors: Expected: A > B > HOME > B Actual: A > B > HOME > A (bad!) Is there a setting I'm missing or is this a bug? If the latter, is there a workaround for this until the bug is fixed? FYI: This question has already been discussed here. However, it doesn't seem that there is any real solution to this, yet.

  • Linear Layout and weight in Android

    - by Janusz
    I always read about this funny weight value in the Android documentations. Now I want to try it for the first time but it isn't working at all. As I understand it from the documentations this layout: <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal"> <Button android:text="Register" android:id="@+id/register" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="10dip" weight="1" /> <Button android:text="Not this time" android:id="@+id/cancel" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="10dip" weight="1" /> </LinearLayout> should create two buttons that are horizontally aligned and share the space equally. The problem is the two buttons don't grow to fill the space. The result is something like this: I would like the buttons to grow and fill the whole line.

  • Android Studio gradle-###-bin.zip vs. gradle-###-all.zip

    - by Jeff Brateman
    One developer on my team has some setting in Android Studio that replaces the distributionUrl entry in gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties to use the gradle-###-all.zip, while my Android Studio changes it back to gradle-###-bin.zip. Basically, my diff always looks like: -distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-1.12-all.zip +distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-1.12-bin.zip This is annoying. What setting is it, and how do I change it?

  • Launching unknown activities from an android application.

    - by oscarello
    Hi, I want to make an android application that shows a listing of applications (downloaded from the android market) and launches the one that the user selects. From what I've read, I'd have to use intents like this: Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.setClassName(packageName, className); startActivity(intent); I just want to be able to launch the applications, not a specific activity that they could have. My question is: how could I launch these applications if I don't know their packageName or className? or maybe, how could I get to know their className and packageName, if it's a closed source application that I didn't develop. Thanks.

  • Android - When to use Service

    - by Chris
    This question is related to my previous question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2786720/android-service-ping-url So I have an Android app that on the click of a button, opens up a web page. Now, in the background I want to call another http url for gathering stats. My question is does this have to be a service? I know a service is for background tasks that run for an indefinite period of time, while the user is busy doing something else. In my case, all I really need is to get the URL in the background, not show it to the user, instead show the web page to the user. Can I just not write code to get contents of the http url and fire up the activity that displays the web page? Coz all I want is to get the url in the background and be done with it. Or does this have to be done using the Service class? I am confused. Thanks Chris

  • how to implement add item in spinner array adapter in android

    - by narasimha
    hi folks, i had a EditText , a button and a spinner . When click the button , the spinner will add a new item with name you entered in the EditText. • NfcAdapter.getDefaultAdapter(this) returns null in emulator

    - by DixieFlatline
    I am trying to test ForegroundDispatch (http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/nfc/ForegroundDispatch.html) in emulator API 10 (Android 2.3.3). When i call NfcAdapter.getDefaultAdapter(this), i get null. Why is this so? Code: public class ForegroundDispatch extends Activity { private NfcAdapter mAdapter; private PendingIntent mPendingIntent; private IntentFilter[] mFilters; private String[][] mTechLists; private TextView mText; private int mCount = 0; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedState) { super.onCreate(savedState); setContentView(R.layout.foreground_dispatch); mText = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.text); mText.setText("Scan a tag"); mAdapter = NfcAdapter.getDefaultAdapter(this); // Create a generic PendingIntent that will be deliver to this activity. The NFC stack // will fill in the intent with the details of the discovered tag before delivering to // this activity. mPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, new Intent(this, getClass()).addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP), 0); // Setup an intent filter for all MIME based dispatches IntentFilter ndef = new IntentFilter(NfcAdapter.ACTION_NDEF_DISCOVERED); try { ndef.addDataType("*/*"); } catch (MalformedMimeTypeException e) { throw new RuntimeException("fail", e); } mFilters = new IntentFilter[] { ndef, }; // Setup a tech list for all NfcF tags mTechLists = new String[][] { new String[] { NfcF.class.getName() } }; } @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); mAdapter.enableForegroundDispatch(this, mPendingIntent, mFilters, mTechLists); //CRASHES HERE BECAUSE mAdapter IS NULL } @Override public void onNewIntent(Intent intent) { Log.i("Foreground dispatch", "Discovered tag with intent: " + intent); mText.setText("Discovered tag " + ++mCount + " with intent: " + intent); } @Override public void onPause() { super.onPause(); mAdapter.disableForegroundDispatch(this); } } My manifest: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.neka.znacka" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0"> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="10" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.NFC"></uses-permission> <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.nfc" android:required="true" /> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <activity android:name=".Uvodna" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name="Simulator"> </activity> </application> Any ideas?

  • How do compare dates when one of those are in string format in android

    - by Raj
    I am very much new to android so need some good help with a code example. I am getting a date in form of string from a server in the following format 2012-08-17 00:00:00 I want to compare this string with current date to find the difference between the dates in the form of year, months and days... I tried playing around it in the following code Date currentDate = new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()); Log.v("@@@@@@@@@","Current Date: " + currentDate); Date passDate = new SimpleDateFormat().parse(passDateString); Log.v("@@@@@@@@@","Pass Date: " + passDate); dateDifference = passDate.compareTo(currentDate); but it returned with following exception 04-15 12:08:29.101: V/@@@@@@@@@(1161): Current Date: Sun Apr 15 12:08:29 GMT+01:00 2012 04-15 12:08:29.101: W/System.err(1161): java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: 2012-08-17 00:00:00 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at java.text.DateFormat.parse(DateFormat.java:645) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at org.apis.PassesListItemAdapter.getView(PassesListItemAdapter.java:77) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:1315) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.makeAndAddView(ListView.java:1727) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.fillDown(ListView.java:652) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.fillFromTop(ListView.java:709) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.layoutChildren(ListView.java:1580) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.AbsListView.onLayout(AbsListView.java:1147) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.RelativeLayout.onLayout(RelativeLayout.java:909) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:333) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:333) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1049) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1744) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:144) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4937) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:868) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:626) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) I am stuck... please help Raj

  • Android Animate Rotate

    - by oriharel
    I did some digging in Android code, and saw the use of in the indeterminate progress bar. after trying to create my own drawable with this tag: <animated-rotate xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:drawable="@drawable/spinner_pia" android:pivotX="50%" android:pivotY="50%" android:framesCount="12" android:frameDuration="100" /> I get an error: "No resource identifier found for attribute 'frameDuration' in package 'android'" - which means that frameDuration is a private attribute. Is there a way to use this "animate-rotate" feature? My task is to replace the system's default indeterminate progress bar. I'd like to do it with as little code as possible (just change few attributes if possible). Using the ProgressBar view, setting: android:indeterminateOnly="true" android:indeterminateBehavior="cycle" android:indeterminateDuration="3500" android:indeterminateDrawable="@drawable/pia_sivuvator" and point "@drawable/pia_sivuvator" to that object would've make my task as elegant as they come but I'm stuck on those private attributes. help?

  • How to provide animation when calling another activity in Android?

    - by sunil
    Hi, I have two Activities A and B. I want to have the shrink Animation when Activity A calls B and maximize animation when Activity B calls A. I don't need the animation xml files for this. When we call another Activity in Android it gives its default animation and then it calls shrink animation. What I want is that the default animation should not occur and the animation that I want should occur. Can we actually give the animation when calling another Activity? Hope to get a quick response. • How can you tell if an activity is starting or resuming?

    - by Joren
    I have an activity which pulls some JSON from my server, and then uses it to draw a list. That list launches further activities. My problem is that I can't figure out a way to tell if the activity is still alive when you go back to it, so I end up re-querying my JSON from the server and redrawing the list every time the user goes back to the activity. How can I tell if my activity is still alive so I can skip the redraw? Using onRestart works for hitting the home key then going back, but onCreate not onRestart is called if I selected a list item then hit back.

  • Create dynamic view with android

    - by ekevin
    Hi I'm stuck on a problem and if possible I will need help from the community. I'm not looking for a ready-made solution, but something which would help me to produce the result. I'm looking for a way to produce a dynamic activity based on a JSON object. Here an example of a JSON object: [ { "name": "my checkbox name", "type": "checkbox", "value": "one,two,three" } { "name": "my edit text", "type": "text", "value": "" } ...] This JSONObject could be totally random. I could have 2 text views, 3 select menus, 1 text view and so on. The goal is to iterate over this JSONObject and create the appropriate elements within my android code. To produce the result I've thought of a simple switch which would render one by one my different JSONObject to an android widget. But after that how could I have access of every property of every widget rendered? Thank you.

  • Launch Activity with Intent Filter on Right Time

    - by user511853
    Hi. I want to launch my own media player application when I want to watch a video from Youtube. When I write android:scheme="http" and android:host="m.youtube.com" it is OK. But, it asks everywhere in m.youtube.com to open my app. So, it gets annoying. I tried to use pathPattern, pathPrefix and path to solve this but I didn't get ahead. All I want is clearly this: When the link is like "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F%gl=US#" the intent filter shouldn't launch my app. When the link is like "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=k3Cdqx1qFX8" my application should be launched. Is there anyone that can help me?

  • android settings (provider)?

    - by lorenzoff
    Hello to all, i'd like to substitute the default preferences setting activity (vertical, icon-title pair list) with a grid view that better fit a large landscape display. About, let's say, the audio preferences, i add an icon to a GridView and, on item click event, i use this code startActivityForResult(new Intent(android.provider.Settings.ACTION_SOUND_SETTINGS), 0); Is it possible to get the default settings icon? If i could use an ipotetic getDrawable(android.R.drawable.default_icon_for_audio_preferences_settings), I would to maintain the default icon also in my preferences grid. A preferences provider exists? Looking at my development device preferences i can see Wireless, call, audio, display and so on. I have to add the same preferences to my grid because i know a priori about their existence or there is a provider that can supply me this array? Thanks in advance L.

    Im trying to place two buttons on the xml next to each other and I want them both to be the same size(half from the width of the screen) - this is my xml: <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@+id/linearLayout2" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:gravity="bottom" android:weightSum="2"> <Button android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/bAddDelete" /> <Button android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/bMainMenu" /> </LinearLayout> Everything works well, but when im changing the text in java, the width is changing, how can I make them the same size? Thanks

  • ArrayAdapter and ListView - ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

    - by synic
    I'm really hoping someone can help me out with this one. I've been stuck on it forever. Occasionally, when someone is using my app, it'll force close with this exception: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException at android.widget.AbsListView$RecycleBin.addScrapView(AbsListView.java:3572) at android.widget.AbsListView.trackMotionScroll(AbsListView.java:2487) at android.widget.AbsListView.onTouchEvent(AbsListView.java:2001) at android.widget.ListView.onTouchEvent(ListView.java:3234) at android.view.View.dispatchTouchEvent(View.java:3709) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:874) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1695) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1116) at android.app.Activity.dispatchTouchEvent(Activity.java:2068) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.dispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1679) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:924) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1695) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1116) at android.app.Activity.dispatchTouchEvent(Activity.java:2068) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.dispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1679) at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1697) at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4568) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:860) at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:618) at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) However, I cannot figure out why. It's relatively rare, non-reproducable, and the stacktrace is completely unhelpful because it doesn't include any of my code. Is it a bug in Android itself?

  • Theme change doesn't work on <4.0 as it should

    - by user1717276
    I have some difficulties with setting up a "theme switcher" programmatically. I would like to switch themes from app (between White (Theme.Light.NoTitleBar) and Dark (Theme.Black.NoTitleBar)) and what I do is: I set a SharedPreference: final String PREFS_NAME = "MyPrefsFile"; final SharedPreferences settings = getSharedPreferences(PREFS_NAME, 0); final SharedPreferences.Editor editor = settings.edit(); and than I have a two buttons to switch themes (second one is almost identical) Button ThemeWhite = (Button) findViewById(R.id.ThemeWhite); ThemeWhite.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { editor.putBoolean("Theme", false); editor.commit(); System.exit(2); } }); and in begging of each activity I check SharedPreference boolean theme = settings.getBoolean("Theme", false); if(theme){ this.setTheme(R.style.Theme_NoBarBlack); } else{ this.setTheme(R.style.Theme_NoBar); } setContentView(R.layout.aplikacja); I define themes in file styles.xml in folder values: <resources> <style name="Theme.NoBar" parent="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar" /> <style name="Theme.NoBarBlack" parent="@android:style/Theme.NoActionBar" /> in values-v11: <resources> <style name="Theme.NoBar" parent="@android:style/Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar" /> <style name="Theme.NoBarBlack" parent="@android:style/Theme.Holo.NoActionBar" /> in values-v14: <resources> <style name="Theme.NoBar" parent="@android:style/Theme.DeviceDefault.Light.NoActionBar" /> <style name="Theme.NoBarBlack" parent="@android:style/Theme.DeviceDefault.NoActionBar" /> manifest file: <application android:theme="@style/Theme.NoBar" > Everything is working excellent on android 4.0 but when I use 2.2 it doesn't change theme - just font is getting white as it should be but there is no dark background. I tried checking if it at least works and changed Theme.NoBarBlack in values (for android <3.0) and its value the same as Theme.NoBar and then when I pressed button font wasn't changed -as it should do.

  • View layout after setvisibility

    - by user1478296
    I've got problem with setting visibility to relative layout. I have part of big layout in relativelayout and below that next TextView. But in my code, when myRelativeLayout.setVisibility(View.GONE); is called, TextView which is below that did not appear. I tried several ways to rearange layout, but i need that textview under it. Thanks My XML: <merge xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" > <ScrollView android:id="@+id/scrollView_liab_ra_flipper_04" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/linearLayout_liab_ra_flipper_04" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/someTextView" android:text="Something" /> <!-- This relative layout should be removable --> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/vg_liab_ra_04_flipper_car_container_visible" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_below="@+id/someTextView" > <TextView android:id="@+id/tv_1" style="@style/WhiteFormText" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="15dp" android:layout_marginTop="2dp" android:text="@string/licence_plate_counter" > </TextView> <EditText android:id="@+id/et_1" style="@style/WhiteFormField" android:layout_below="@+id/tv_1" android:hint="@string/licence_plate_hint" > </EditText> </RelativeLayout> <!-- This textview is not visible if relative layout is gone --> <TextView android:id="@+id/tv_liab_ra_04_flipper_mandat" style="@style/WhiteFormTextHint" android:layout_below="@+id/vg_liab_ra_04_flipper_car_container_visible" android:layout_marginBottom="15dp" android:text="@string/mandatory_field" > </TextView> </RelativeLayout> </ScrollView> </merge> Java Code: private void hideCar() { if (!accident.getParticipant(0)) { rlCarContainer.setVisibility(View.GONE); } else { rlCarContainer.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); } }

  • Layout resize animation

    - by Marcin Sosna
    I have layout: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/main_fragment_container" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/left_fragments_layout" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="#00F"> </RelativeLayout> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/graph_fragment_container" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="2.2" android:background="#666"> </RelativeLayout> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/right_fragments_layout" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="#00F"> </RelativeLayout> When I set visibility to GONE on left and right fragment container then they are animated to left and right. I try to set scale animation on resize center graph_fragment_container, my code: <scale android:fromXScale="100%" android:toXScale="50%" android:fillAfter="true" android:fillEnabled="true" android:duration="7000" /> Java code: Animation toLeftOut = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation( MainActivity.this, R.anim.to_left_out ); Animation toRightOut = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation( MainActivity.this, R.anim.to_right_out ); Animation scale = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation( MainActivity.this, R.anim.scal ); graphContainer.startAnimation( scale ); leftFragmentsLayout.startAnimation( toLeftOut ); rightFragmentsLayout.startAnimation( toRightOut ); Now graphContainer was resize after right and left layout animation end, and user see a grey backgound before center layout was resize.
